If I am calculating correctly, a patient player can acquire the following locus for 70k:
- +17 Max Mana
- +16 Manipulation Lore Bonus
- +6 Dodging Bonus
As per the example listed here.

For example, if the player were to add Manipulation Lore (+5) and Dodging (+5) across two events, boosting Dodging (+1) at one event and Manipulation Lore (+1) at the others, the result would total 20k and yield +3 health/mana/stam, +6 dodging , +6 manip for 20k, right?
That should be 20k, I think...
add manip 5k, boost manip 5k total 10k event 1 add dodge 5k, boost dodge 5k 10k event 2, total 20k and result of 3 of your initial stat, and 6 dodge, 6 manip
8 boosts on the manip (+8) over subsequent 2 years will cost 40k (up to 60k total) and yield +11 health/mana/stam, +6 dodging , +14 manip

Boosting Manipulation Lore once at each event for the subsequent two years (8 events), the additional cost would be 40k and result in the following locus:
- +11 Max Mana
- +14 Manipulation Lore Bonus
- +6 Dodging Bonus

Oil is what is included in the battle vault, It provides a 1 month charge to the locus. The Locus itself is not in the vault.

I was a little disappointed to see the bank heist is gone, i had a few items I'd been squireling away to possibly but together a bag of holding eventually someone said they might be released through alternate methods any word on that?
Basically the items for upgrading the bag still drop but new bags of holding cannot be made

Not presently, but I think that it is very likely that we will add support for this in the future
I can help! Yes, those are bloodscrip prices. The initial locus is free, and it is 5k to add the first property. The first and second properties added will start at +5. You can boost them beyond that, however, for the prices listed. The price will scale up at a single event run, but it will reset before each new event run.
When you first receive the locus, you can request a stamina locus, a health locus, or a mana locus. Depending on your choice, it will begin with +1 max to one of those 3 resources.
As you boost the locus, the +max resource will also increase
Let me know if that covers it sufficiently, or if you have any other questions! There's a lot to the little item

That is correct. So if you added STR and DEX this DR, they would both start at +5. Then if you add another property at EG, it will start at +1.

I'm having the same thing with my locus for +1 stamina
However, I thought I was at 172, and now I'm at 173 stamina. If I take off/put on the locus, it doesn't change from 173.

🤔 So we have 4 events a year. Since the month-long charges stack, that means as long as you pick up three boosts every event, you will never have to charge it with bounty points... probably fewer if they get included in future vaults

Thank you - I'm not sure that would be all too "easy". I doubt anyone would want to pay the charging costs for all 20 +5's anyways and it would still cost 100k BS to create (and 2 years). If that were the case I'd probably get like 5 of them for 25k BS and call it a day. If you're not going to invest in it forever, you're going to have to start paying to recharge it at some point...and wearing an enhancive that has so many stats that are only situationally useful is kind of inefficient from that standpoint. Or you become a lifelong buyer of recharging potions from the simucoin store for your 20x +5 enhancive that is account bound.

But it's worth reiterating that the locus receives a month of being charged (like a simucoin potion might result in) every time you give it a property boost. And every time you use the oil on it, which comes with the battle vaults. Maybe in CLAIM EVENT boxes, too? Either way, keeping it charged seems fairly inexpensive, regardless of how much enhancive properties have been built up on it.
Unless, of course, you stop boosting properties and applying oil. Eventually it will run out, and then yes, you'll be asked to pay 83 million bounty points to recharge it or something, but alas.

So this is all pretty hypothetical and maybe doesn't matter but... the charging costs for 20x +5 bonuses wouldn't be all that bad, presuming those costs behave like the AG badge and other enhancives today. Recharge costs sum for multiple properties. And recharge costs grow proportional to a seed 1 summation (or [n*(n+1)/2], quadratic). This means a single +20 bonus costs 14x the bounty points to recharge as a +5 bonus.
It would still seem to be quite expensive and inefficient to maintain a 20x +5 enhancive. If you're only buying 2 per event that alone won't keep it charged...so you have to buy in to other things...and after 10 events you've maxed out your +5's and then the clock really starts ticking on the recharge cost.
Are there even 20 things I'd want to have +5 of at the same time, considering the recharge cost that will eventually kick in? I don't think so. There are a bunch but I wouldn't even strongly want them all at once on one enhancive since many are situational (this does change a lot if you could actually keep it charged at a reasonable cost indefinetely.).
Even so, I feel like if someone wants to pay 100k BS to get 20x +5s on an account bound item and keep it charged (and further incentivized to buy battle vaults and maybe claim boxes) that's not too game-breaking and puts a bunch of $$ in event revenue. Otherwise the value investment here seems to be two +5's for 10k BS and I'm not sure that's worth spending 10k BS on.
As a cleric the value falls big time after +5 wisdom (the next +5 stat/skill is not nearly as useful imo). For my sorc it's more tempting to have a +5 wis/aur enhancive I guess...but still paying 10k BS for that when I already easily have a +40 wis/aur set is questionable. Now if I could make like a 5x +5 enhancive for 25k that's a little more tempting b/c of how unique it is. And no I'm not assigning much value to the +max free enhancive.
Do you even get the 1 month free charge for property adds? If it's just the boost then yeah you're not getting much free charging on the value route.
A few things I think you might have mixed up. Only the first two adds are +5. Then each additional add begins at +1. For myself I have an interest in this more for my squares than my pures. I can see myself spending 35k per event four times a year. One property add for 5k. Three boosts for 5,10,15. That would get me 3months charging and also boost it incrementally.
To your other comment, you could also do just the 2 property adds for 10k over two events. Is that worth it? Maybe. Probably. That’s comparable to PP enhancives which many people love. Is 10k bs the same value as 2800? Pps.
I think we're falling into the same issue with the flare gloves. Every item doesn't have to be perfect for every player. I'm amazed that so many changes have been approved and implemented so quickly. There were people that were going to buy with the original announcement. There were people that were going to buy with the second announcement. There's a lot of folks that are going to buy after this third announcement. Personally I think its in a better spot than I thought possible.
Up until now I've never really bought into the enhancive game much at all. This changes everything for me and allows me to build a decent set for a new path that I wish to take Roh down. The changes made this past week have been very welcome and I appreciate all the work that has gone into this whole concept.
Editorial: I recall a similar discussion back when enhancive recharging was first offered for Soul Shards at EG. People couldn't understand why people would pay that many shards for 10 charges, given that it was the same price as multiple months of enhancive recharge potions. Then people brought up things like Service enhancives that you only use once a month for a few minutes, players that have very spotty playtimes, etc. Sometimes an offering is for a specific segment of players (the helm resize I think was another one of these, nobody expected it to be popular, but somebody wanted it). I fully anticipate that for players that hunt hard and regularly get good enhancive drops, the locus might not be their best option, and that's ok.

I think it's fair to provide feedback while also understanding that not every item is for everyone. I hear you but I also think he wanted this to also be appealing for value buyers and I still find it quite costly to get something worthwhile. I don't see the value investment path that's worthwhile, personally, so I'm providing feedback. I feel like my comments/feedback get taken as demands for some reason lol
It’s quite simply because I don’t tend to hunt regularly with Roh so don’t find that many enhancives of my own and I don’t want to have to chase them down in shops/sales threads, organise and maintain them all. The AdG badge and this locus simplifies the whole process for someone like me and the cost is worth it for that IMO. I can keep these two items on Roh at all times and not have to worry about multiple pieces.

Plus - don’t laugh - it’s easier to keep these hidden and not look like a lit-up Christmas tree! Roh’s appearance is important to me and I hate pestering people for shimmer trinket recharges. (You can laugh a little - I often laugh at myself)
I don’t love most enhansives because so many are a random complicated pain. But this locus helps simplify and consolidate some things which I really appreciate. It can get spendy but it doesn’t have to be if you build it slow. It seems like a nice idea that can be developed casually or aggressively
I think it's hit value level. Buy a battle vault every paid event, boost 2 times every pay event for 15k currency and it will be charged forever. I think everyone can find value in having extra max stamina, health, or mana with 1 other enhancive that simply was not feasible to even try and pursue, like 50 bonus in a lore, or 50 bonus in multi opponent combat, or combat maneuvers, or dodging, or lock picking, etc. There's a long list.
Even if you're already big into enhancives, eventually this will allow you to round out them numbers for the folks with OCD and maybe reduce the total upkeep in time.
you run into a charging issue in the later half of the year/start of the year, since december has no event. But otherwise, yeah its easy to do a slow upgrade and keep it charged if your normal buy in into the event is in the $100 range.
Also, if you've been doing that pace since the start of events, you almost certainly have all the "value" "budget" "fluff" stuff and aren't chasing big mechanical things, but still enjoy participating in the events to generate currency and other items like the golems, bags of holding etc. So you end up with extra currency over time. so slow investing into something like this gives you another outlet for currency.
Side note, I think rohese and tsalinx might be as far apart as any two players can be in terms of play style, and I'm getting a kick out of the fact that the locus is where the venn diagram circles overlap
And I'll be sitting outside of the diagram until I can fold the recharge fee into my premium account charge. Sad face.

Note that you can “double dip” on max resource. For example, imagine you start with a +max stamina locus. You can then add +max stamina as an additional property. Subsequently you can increase the +max stamina property you added, and the primary +max property will increase as well.
Note that this is the only case where you can have a duplicate property on the locus

One thing to keep in mind is that the point of comparison for +1 enhancive was 50k at HESS, or 35k attuned. So 5k is pretty cheap in comparison! Time gated, of course

I understand the concerns around not being able to maintain the charges, but if you take the thing off when you're not wearing it, and buy a vault at each event, and boost one property at each event, you will still get a few years out of this thing before you even have to worry about a recharge, let alone a costly one, especially if you only play an hour or two per day.
Also, I can imagine five years from now, when the masses grab their pitchforks and complain about recharging, maybe something will be done. I understand not wanting to take a risk on "maybe" but to me it's worth it.
Also, at the very least, we can take the concern about charging during eventless months up the chain and see what we can cook up

Well obviously the answer is to open up rings of lumnis during eventless months and everytime you go through a ring to boost your brooch, you increase the charge on your locus by 1.
This. Absolutely. My enhancive set is big. With this to help, I can round out a lot of things that would otherwise take finding almost impossible items.
I think recharging won't really be an issue if people buy the BV and continue the boost.
The only concern I have about BP charging is the whole rank/base/bonus charge difference.. but that's a different beast than the locus.

As someone who is also curious about why that design decision was made initially (years ago), I would love to hear whatever you find! At least for skill ranks and bonuses, I understand why they're different (even if I wish the system was designed differently). But for stat base/bonus, when it's literally a 2:1 ratio, I don't get why the charging formula isn't also 2:1.

I think the easiest way to deal with the ranks issue (not a good way, but easiest) is to create some sort of Sylinar-esque NPC that offers to convert from skill ranks --> skill bonus (at 1:1) for free. Then players can make the swap if they want and you don't have to change anything about how how enhancives are generated, or how recharging is priced.

i know the overlap of "excessively enhance on a sub 25 dude that won't cap" is probably pretty small. but, if you really care, you can take some trash ranks enhancives and getr a +50 skill set for that sub-10 grind for basically free lol

Ranks have a limited use, but they do have a use. And yeah, the only benefit to bonus vs ranks with skill is charging costs.
The thing with ranks vs skill bonus, is that bonus is not full value until you have 40 ranks in the skill. Most things you want enhansives you'll have that, but I'm sure there are some niche uses out there. I personally would still like to see dropped enhancives switch to only dropping with base stat and skill bonus, but just leave the current stuff alone.

The first few times I looked at my enhancives through this I thought my numbers in Excel were off and I then saw the separation. Happened to me like... 3 times..

I also try to keep in mind that there is a prioritization exercise here, e.g. does this come first in priority, or does gemstones, other quality-of-life improvements, etc.

Ranks are more expensive to charge and useful only to lower level characters (which is ironic because of the increased level requirement on them). I think that’s about it. There is a very niche case where a rank of Dodge or EMC or something might be more useful to a high level character who just wants a couple ranks in it, like to send mana or before training dodge on their own

Better to make an npc imo, sylanars code could almost assuredly do it, make it the same price as removing an enhancive from an item.
Why make it any price at all? Doesn't make sense to me. By in large, the current skill rank/bonus system is bad, given the current state of enhancive usage. Businesses that care about their customers don't sell solutions to problems they themselves have created; they fix the problems. (I say this acknowledging that no GMs, to my knowledge, have proposed a for-pay solution.)
I mean... they could just as well leave it how it is too, it hasn't been much of an issue for many years, I'm fairly sure it still ranks quite far down on what people care about
i mean there's certainly value in changing to bonus, so depending on how the system generates enhancives it's potentially a lower tier when it randomizes so converting freely is technically a win. like maybe it's setup to do "a good stat, as ranks, or a terrible stat" (i'm just spit balling clearly we have no idea). But also considering there was a proposal to unify them this way i don't necesarily disagree. Could be a silver conversion thing too maybe to at at least get it out of P2W land. Then you could do a P2W version that's like convert ranks to bonus at 2:1 value or something (i.e. 3 ranks to 6 bonus)
Maybe, but some people care about it -- we're having this conversation, after all. I'm not saying how it should be prioritized among competing options either. I'm just saying that a simple 1:1 conversion via an NPC would probably be a pretty decent solution: I imagine there's a lot of overlap with Sylinar's code, it would be optional so players who like ranks for uncommon use cases wouldn't have to change, it wouldn't require changing the charging costs, and it wouldn't require any changes to the treasure generation system.
And, if such a solution were to be implemented, on principle, I don't like the idea of charging to fix a problem that should probably just be fixed.
I think it would be more important to fix the enhansives being generated to only be bonus and base stat imo. But that's proper ancient code where dark and scary horrors lay.

This is the key comment here -- there's no reason for any these to be separated. The complexity of ranks vs. bonus, and base vs. bonus, adds next to nothing to the system, aside from niche cases for skill ranks which are hard to even identify, much less find items for, much less someone actually putting in the effort and silver to do both. And, the differentiation is confusing even for experienced players -- explaining that "stat bonus" and "stat base" contribute to the same pool gets old, and in that case, the complexity adds nothing at all. Everything should just be "bonus" or "base," and items should be convertible for free at an NPC who's dropped in a town somewhere.
I don't think anyone disagrees that the system should be updated. The question is how to prioritize it, how to do it, etc.
I'd love to see things like this -- i.e., fixing current systems that have been problematic for many years, simplifying mechanics, smoothing out the new player experience -- prioritized over making yet another new script. I understand Simu is a company and needs to profit, but I think it's actually sacrificing the longterm health of the game for shortterm profits to allow these things to languor for so long without addressing them.

You can only put 20 properties on it. And each property can only go to 20.
At each of Duskruin, Ebon Gate, and Rumor Woods, a locus can receive 2 new properties (up to 20 properties total) and properties can be boosted 5 times (up to +20 per property). The cost is scaling per event run, and resets before each new event run. The locus is account attuned to the character who received it, and cannot be transferred or re-attuned.

I agree. I think its going to fall under that category of things that won't get a real response. No one on staff should want to commit in 2024 to something that far away and have everyone coming back and point to it as a promise.

Keep in mind RoL is almost exclusively about the brooch (aside from lots of nice fluff offerings). This locus is just one of many, many mechanical festival offerings now, so it may keep its longevity.
Also, I think people went really, really hard into their brooches. They’ve gotten most of what they want out of them.

That's a pretty good idea, especially for Reim. Would add some value to ethereal scrip and maybe promote sales of entries.
A reim tie-in would also encourage premium subscriptions because of the daily entry.

Same. Typical enhancive charges last anywhere from 30 minutes to a day, based on testing I've seen, but it's RNG.

If you're looking for a quick little boost and not planning for many upgrades sure. But yeah the math for sorcerer CS is au+wis bonus halved (rounding up). So when you consider 1 bonus is 2 stat points, your CS progress is quartered for stat growth.

IMO the wording from the traveler makes it seem like they're going to be character attuned. The monsterbold explanations make it clear they're account attuned though.

Good question. The first two skills that are added start at +5. Subsequent skills will be added at +1. This is true regardless of whether you wait for a new event.

What if each skill add DID start at +5, but the locus was capped at 8 unique skills or stats.
IF that was an option. After 9 Years (assuming 4 events per year) here would be some sample results.
If someone Added 2 sklls the first 4 events, and did +1 boosts two skills those events and every event after that. They would end with:
A locus that has +40 to two stats, and +5 to 6 other stats.
Edit: I didn't include that it would have the max health/stamina/mana boost as well, which would be +65 by this point.
This would have cost them **645k **in event currency over 10 years - pretty solid recurring revenue to really only have a 2 max stat enhancive with a bunch of little "helper" stats at +5!
attempting to push a 3rd stat to +40 during that same window, based on current scaling would cost an **additional ~525k! **
Edit: I know I over simplified and did the 15k for 3rd boost x 35 events. It'll be off by one event based on not being able to add it during the 1st event
Adding a 4th stat to the mix would cost another additional ~875k BS!

Without having read the rest yet, you'd need an incredible sales pitch to get past the idea of reducing its maximum pay event currency potential by at least 120k via starting skills 3-8 at 5 each, then reducing it by at least another 1.2m by cutting off skills 9-20 even existing (minimum 60k to add them), never mind upgrading them (minimum 1.14m to max them all).
I think it's plausible to make such a sales pitch, but I wonder if you will... So it's time to read on!

Okay, so the crux of your argument boils down to possible greater mass appeal for short term gains at the expense of possible lesser long term gains. It's a peculiar angle to me, though. Your math is talking about a demographic of people who simultaneously consider the current pricing too high, *but*, if each skill started at +5, would then feel incentivized to spend to add two skills per event ASAP and two boosts per event for a decade.
While I'm almost sure there are a non-zero amount of players in that category, I'm also almost sure there are a non-zero amount of other players who consider the current pricing too high *and therefore*, even if each skill started at +5, *would still* only add one skill per event and boost them once per event (or even, potentially, never boost them).
(And, of course, there are players in between or outside of those groups.)
If I were going to try to make the best possible case for your idea... then I think it couldn't be done right now at all, but it potentially could be done by next year's second Duskruin **if** it turns out that a large percentage of locus buyers have stopped at exactly two skills.

Everyone can benefit from +mana, +stamina, or +health. Pick your poison.
Do a basic locus with +stamina and +stamina.
Upgrade it +1 at every pay event for 5k currency which you can purchase with silver.
Slow method but eventually you have a substantial boost. I see every argument to further lower costs as someone trying to push for their optimal use case rather than a benefit to everyone.
There's no point to add any more skills until the current 2 are capped in my mind, if it's +1. I'm never going to "get ahead" of the need to raise them, so there's no need to add them in advance. If it was +2/3 I'd consider spending to add more skills, in advance.
Suppose they could sell slot boosts where any additional adds would be +5, but at a scaling cost. Could possibility augment existing tiered boosts with appropriate cost. Same cost just faster growth.
The benefit to adding a boost each pay event is because it's 1/5 of the cost to add 1 boost versus 2. Everyone should have an idea of what boosts they need to add or finish up. If I need cman, blunt, blessing, wisdom, and health. I'm going to add those one at a time at each event to save money and then stop adding boosts. If you wait you're either putting it off for the sake of putting it off and potentially getting stuck paying more for 2 boosts because fomo.
If you really want to add 20 boosts to this thing that's a lot of time and some money or half the time and a lot more money.
What would be epicly cool would be if someone made one +20 all stats locus for their account and just quick swapped it onto every main/alt they played on that single account
That only matters in the case where +1 is important. Since I can only raise them a total of +5 per event. You'd never be in a situation where you don't have one to raise.
+1 is always important. Why are you even using enhancives or ascension?
+1 is important in that it eventually becomes more than +1. If it's stuck at +1 until the next event, there's no reason to add it now, I can just add it next event.
Unless you want to add something else, and something after that, and something after that
adding another +1 is cheaper than the last boost price of 35k
We'll keep going in circles forever because we simply see things differently which is why the locus is at a good place because so many players see a different use case at this point

Unless I'm content with +5/+10, at the next event I'm raising that to 10/10. Adding another Thing here to raise later, is just spending money I don't' have to.
There will never be a time where I need to add 2 things in an event ever again. (To be fair, I didn't need to the first time either, but for +5, sure I will). I will always have a locus thing to raise. If 4 events from now, I get to 20/20 on the locus, I can add 1 thing at that time.
Adding something every event only matters when 1 point matters.
10k currency for +3 total enhancives, vs 15k (2 boosts)
If you don't have a bunch of properties to add it might only take you 2 or 3 events to get 3 properties but if you want 20 properties that 5 years roughly to do it at the cheapest cost.

Really depends on how you guys do enhancives, yah 2 +10 stats locus is easier to fit but 10 +2 stat is still a total of 20! its a puzzle, go crazy
Lot of folks figured out how to get perfect 100s (in their head) with ascension, the locus can stretch those a little further by a point or two pretty easy.
Just another use case which someone will probably do.

No because someone would need a plus one only for OCD and a plus 2 would mean they need to buy another +1 or they would forever be stuck with an odd number.
I like the locus, and will do my first two new to gain the +5 for each, then do minimal boosts each event. That feels like a good investment. The rest feels like it's not; unless you are already investing huge sums into enhancives. I think the equation is less relevant to most players because there are just better options. It's much more cost effective to mill around and find a better enhancive (and/or drop 25k to transmute it if needed). However, if you're already capping out all your slots with super high-end enhancives, odds are pricepoint would seem to be less relevant anyway becuase your investing into crossing a threshold of slot limitations.

Swapping is super cool. Definitely prevents buyers’ remorse if you change training, enhancive sets, etc.

I got so busy trying to put on an event in Zul Logoth this happened:

You remove a golden scroll inscribed with five conjoined circles from in your loot bag.
red scroll
The golden scroll has expired and cannot be redeemed. The scroll fades away into thin air.
I didn't want to burn it up while I was spending hours in the forge and forgot to redeem it... sigh

(kidding aside.... that concept is a pretty common model for a lot of micro transaction games, where things reset on a seasonal basis)
I still think premium having a battle pass would be cool, kill 1,000 like-level mobs during the month get small reward, kill 10,000 get decent reward, kill 50,000 get pretty nice reward etc.... maybe shifting by creature type or location. Maybe less of a battle pass and more of a monthly "challenge competition"

I was saving my grit which maxed out to hand out free services during an event in zul logoth that i hosted on the 18th. I had meant to redeem the scroll to fill my grit back up. Unfortunately I was so focused on trying to get a load of perfect parts together (probably spent about 80 real world hours in the forge) I managed 3 perfect weapons of 13 combines two of which have new homes a veil iron warsword which was a pretty nice make among those.
I don't really understand the need for the scrolls to expire but my guess would be it is because they cost real money so sort of like why gift cards expire.
If they didn't expire, it would allow people to buy 12 of them and keep it going all year, which they apparently don't want to happen for some reason.
Maybe they could change it up to a "charge" system, that allows you one "charge" per event to use a scroll. Charges not expiring. Wouldn't matter when you use it then.
I thought battle backs were limited to one per event in that case i spose it makes sense

Give me the normal battle vault with the 50% scroll and then give me the Gamblestone IV vault that has a randomized scroll (RNG beteen 1% and 150% experience boost)
Depends on your playtime really. You can blow thru a brooch in a few minutes in the right circumstances, while you'd need to play for hours to match that on a 50%. (Also depends on how big the brooch is of course)
I did spend only 15 minutes playing yesterday for ~8K experience absorbed, brooch is definitely convenient in that regard.

Simu potions work the same way as far as I know on enhanchives. Anything that gives you until X date, that date is fixed.
The potions are themselves effectively a timed pause.

It's pushed back, first off.
He's an Italian mafia "fixer" who works on loci instead of making handcrafted leather shoes. He has a cigar in one side of his mouth, a tool belt with some oddly sharp implements, and a glass of sambuca in one hand with three coffee beans. He's shrouded in a haze of leather oil and coffee, and if you argue with him, you realize that he stopped listening three sentences ago.
His skin is so tightly stretched across his bones, it's hard to tell if he's alive or a skeleton. Either way, no one in Naidem dares to ask him. His hands are harder than steel. He bends horseshoes with them when he's bored and can occasionally be seen driving nails into a coffin lid with his thumb.
He seems friendly.
He's a wizard, here to engage in some Locus Pocus.
I don't think the cigar is in his mouth. I think its just a picture of a cigar on a pane of glass he holds in front of him.

recharge costs roughly grow like bonus squared and are additive among multiple properties, so having many smaller bonuses is more efficient than a lesser number of large (e.g. +20) bonuses
With the vaults and this pricing they training us to be on the slow consistent drip....

for the +5, then if I got the stat add one which probably don't have a chance at all
as I understand it, if you only added 1 stat this event, then you should still be able to add 1 more stat through winning, because normally you can add 2 stats per event, one for 5k and one for 25k

again, sort of depends on your enhancive situation, for CS classes like sorc and cleric, if you don't have those stats maxed, it's never a bad idea, so aura/wis for sorc and wis for cleric.
Lores can be sometimes tough to find on enhancives so those can be decent choices as well. I would avoid stuff that you can find pretty high normal enhancives of, this includes weapon skill and spell aim enhancives, those'll just be cheaper in general to get not using the locus.
My personal plan for my locus is finishing up my wisdom and aura so I have 40/40 of each (I'm at like 30/37 today) then I plan to get some lores. I also plan to get some dodging, eventually a little bit of agi (I also have 32 agi enhancives so wouldn't mind finishing that up to 40)
Basically, I consider one of the big things with the locus is it can be used to fill in holes or "finish" enhancive sets that you have.
I’m on the 3 per festival track, but I’m a pretty big enhancive user. Whatever you do, be consistent with the upgrades. It’s more expensive to do 3 upgrades one festival and then 1 the next, vs 2 + 2.
Since the locus can be shared amongst characters on your account (and effectively charged all year, if you hit each event), Im trying to focus on stats that will help with most/all professions
The other nice thing about the locus, assuming you’re doing 2 upgrades or more per run, is that it’ll effectively always be charged. So you don’t need to rotate it on/off with an armoire and can benefit from the boosts 100% of the time
Lores are what I'd do if I were running a caster. Since I'm not, I'm going with Combat Maneuvers because that's way harder to find in high quantities than weapon skills.
I still have no idea what my second skill will be, though, heh.

As a paladin who can only 1x MOC, I eventually plan to put 20 MOC on the locus to get to 135. Extra targeted strike. It’s just not going to happen for a while. Maybe the fifth or something one to max
my main is warrior, so MOC isn't really an issue, but I can see it being a huge help for every other profession
MOC enhancives are extremely difficult to find in the wild. Probably (?) the rarest, considering you can’t swap them at EG either

The thresholds for FOF are more fuzzy than whats actually on the wiki, as the numbers there only applies to equal level opponents, witg higher level creatures, you need more ranks to ignore fof.

Your best bet is +10 MOC adv badge, +5 MOC locust, and a few +7 MOC premy enhancives

Each rank does help defensively. If you need 20 ranks for the next full enemy offset each rank gives 5% of the offset. As we’ve been told. I’ve never verified it.

I assume the locus uses charges like other enhancives, so the more you build them up the faster they'll use charges. Which is why I'd rather let it use up the charges slowly now when its not that built up, and save the oils for when it's more built up.

the most important factor for enhancive charge use is just time worn because the actual "should this enhancive lose a charge" check is run on a schedule and just checks whether ANYTHING that might use the enhancive has happened since the last check (which means almost always yes).
Personally I’m saving my oils too. Since I’ll keep building it slowly, this is the cheapest it’ll ever be to charge it at the AG. A way to bundle/combine the oils would be great.
I can see a use case for saving them I guess. If you’re only doing +1 add per event that’s 4 months and it’ll take a long time for that to be prohibitively expensive at the ag.
But if you’re doing +2 per event and getting a vault that pace carried through the theoretical end of being able to improve the locus takes you like 50 years to complete with it being charged the entire time.
It comes with 200 charges right? It's going to take a long long time to go through all those charges, with the regular suspending of the use of charges etc. It likely will take years. I don't see the point in saving the oils.
200 charges can be depleted in 6 months if you play enough. Depends a lot on what you put in it. Like if you put logic in it you’re probably leaving it on all the time. But if you’re only putting hunting stuff in it and take it off when not hunting. Yeah that’ll last a long while.
Fwiw. I don’t care if someone wants to save the oil, and asking for bundle ability makes sense for those people.
But I think that’s the looooooooong game. Like unimaginably long.
Also, feel free to archive this and laugh at us all in 20 years when we can’t use our locus because we don’t have oil and the bp cost is like 1m per charge. I do wonder if there is any sort of cap on cost because in theory at some point it does become unchargable if not.
I have relatively simple enhancives that want 250k bp per charge. The treasure master really doesn't like high tier recovery items, like +22 Health Rec. So...
with all the armament/enhancive updates... i feel like there's going to be an outcry from folks to try to pull the cost down a little or find alternatives...

I feel like they changed the enhancive charge formula months ago. I noticed that my enhancives were wearing out much faster than usual. So I've stopped using them during regular hunting.
It would be really funny if they sold millions of nuggets and sylinar transmuting only to nerf the system and make it way more expensive to upkeep.

No, I have all the same stuff. Well, I have the locus, but that's the only difference.
In the past couple years we've had: convert an armor accessory to jewelry, merge 6 accessories into 1, SK tattoo spigot made wide open, convert ANY armament to jewelry, added slots to increase the number of enhancices you can wear, and now the locus. All these have significantly ramped up the quantity and scope of enhancives that your average adventure is wearing. It's not a secret, and all those releases have been announced. Are you saying that the promotion of the use of more enhancives isn't intentional?
I think they should re-examine equalizing enhancive skill rank/bonus costs. Its a real shame that some enhancives are ruined simply because they have 1-2 random high rank garbage skills that drive up the enhancive recharge cost by 25-50K bounty points. This would not be an issue if Sylinar removal service was a reasonable price (1K shards) or FREE but its like the system is forcing you to pay for upkeep on useless/overpriced stuff.

I think the complaint is that enhancive charges seem (over the past few months) to be using charges faster, not that there are more items someone is wearing that use charges. I agree that may make it feel for some people that they are using more charges, because on a total basis they are, but that's not what anyone is expressing.

For what it's worth, I looked through the log, and don't see anything that would result in a higher burn rate versus a year ago. Of course it's always possible that I missed something or the issue is more subtle.

I used to hunt OTF with all my enhancives on but over the last year it has seemed that my upkeep has skyrocketed for whatever reason.... bigger enhancives, nuggetgeddon, more line items on each enhancives. Now I only wear enhancives when Hinterwilds which is probably what I should have done anyways but still the frequency and cost is getting oppressive when you have like 25-30 enhancives on.

from what we've been told about enhancives you would expect your cost to scale linearly with number of worn items and you'd expect a much smaller increase per number of line items per worn item (each worn item can lose one charge per check, and the odds of facing the check are already high with one line item, but they also go up per line item). it sounds like both have gone way up for you so you'd expect the cost to go up

i too am finding that mine are losing charges at an increased rate. I used to go 2-3 months before needing an AG recharge (standard 10 charges).
Lately it's been a month or less on them.

I mean, that sounds like a lot of back end engine level work. Not saying that I disagree with the concept, but it doesn't sound easy. I imagine that's why pauses work like they do, there's probably some character level flag that gets set and checked before each item is checked.

There's definitely some weird stuff that's been pointed out with enhancives. A while back, I pointed out that I was getting the "one more charge left" notification in the MIDDLE of using Hortrand's Holler, and was told that this wasn't an indication that using HH was increasing enhancive drain. Seemed hard to believe, and it wasn't a one off occurance. I just stopped using Holler.
Interesting correlation. I wonder if all the new feats and Enhanced Dodge/Evasion/Shield etc triggers also play a role in increasing counters somewhere. There are a lot of skills that trigger a short enhancive buff.

Yes, this was the context of the discussion that we had when I was still an envoy. That’s when we learned that the enhancive cooldown is primarily what controls enhancive charge loss, not the individual checks.

location matters pretty sure. at the very least armor vs not does (a non-armor headworn is more expensive than a helm armor piece)
my an embossed ora earring costs 45,720 and it's +12 DISC +3 Demonology Ranks.. Not sure how much taking those ranks off would drop it. I kinda wish I tried to see the difference, but I don't think it can drop 10k shards worth of difficulty.. second is a back-worn train that costs 43,980 and it's +8 DEX, +13 DISC, and +2 Transformation Ranks.. so I'm guessing single earring has quite a recharge modifier

No need to convert, just make the cost the same for ranks and bonus.... 95% of enhancives out there with ranks don't really need to be ranks. Maybe if you are a swinger and need mana then Harness Power ranks are good but I have found almost no other cases where ranks are needed over bonus. Even arguments for pre-capped suck because you won't have many core skills under 40 ranks in anything for long.

I’ve always believed the major issue with enhancive recharging costs is ranks recharging rates. No one values ranks higher than stat/bonus, but for some reason the system does. The use case for ranks is so limited in today’s Gemstone it’s effectively zero.
I think they could offer a one-time swap for all ranks items to provide 2:1 ranks to bonus (ie your 5 SA rank greathelm becomes 10 SA bonus). And then just get rid of ranks all together.
they should not make all ranks enhancives twice as powerful, they should just convert all ranks enhancives 1:1 to bonus and manually give anybody who complains on discord a bunch of death sting

Nah my suggestion basically maintains BPs at the same relative value. Recharge costs would remain fairly similar. I don’t think it’s crazy for BP costs to be high for items with crazy bonuses. I just think ranks recharging is obviously busted.
I’ve made this suggestion before - but as a really simple, mostly non-controversial fix, they could just cut the BP recharging costs for ranks items by 50% or 67% and just call it a day. Easy peezy.
People would probably end up using more ranks stuff, resulting in more simucoin sales too!

The value of BPs is set by the fixskill price. I doubt that will change much.

That's just absurd. I do think 2K/charge as suggested earlier is kind of low for a cap, but 25K/charge is ridiculous. Locuses gonna be like the penalty google got hit with from Russia. "Yes, we require more BP's than have existed ever in GS to charge your locus."

I'm trying to think if ANY of my habits have changed in the last 3-4 months, and with the addition of SK's, i do flip Inv Enh's on to spellup while I'm on node (for about 2 minutes) in between hunts.
I can't imagine that's causing the rate of charge usage to double or more for me (going from needed to charge things once every 3 months to 1x a month)... but if it does trigger a charge check by flipping it, maybe that's causing the change for me.

the enhancive cooldown is tracked per individual item. I don't know if the duration is the same, but nobody has ever suggested that some enhancives are designed to decay faster than others.
it is definitely possible that something is running more checks but it doesn't actually matter very much because you're going to get a check every 1-2 minutes regardless even when you're afk and more often when you are doing things. the largest possible difference would be like two RL minutes less enhancive duration per cooldown, in extremely specific circumstances.
Is the cooldown long enough to make repeated checks irrelevant? Checks every 5 min would be different than every 30 over time

I’m a big advocate for just using the enhancives sparingly. Complete overkill for most content, even Ascension. Put ‘em on when you are killing the really hard stuff.
Nice thing about the locus (bringing this back on topic) is that you can keep it charged with regular boosting + oil, so it’s “always on”

Yeah, I do think the cap per charge is still an important question though. Not everyone is doing 5 adds per event, and if you're only doing one or two and not buying a vault, that leaves you 4 months of the year you have to charge it with BP. It will obviously take longer to get to stupid levels of points to charge at that rate, but it's still going to be a concern.
I use enhancive pauses all the time. And when I go from enhancives off to enhancive on, within a couple seconds I'll get crumbly screaming at me because something is down to 1 charge. Maybe it is all coincidental and I happened to pause my enhancive with just a few seconds left... but it seems suspicious.
I'm pretty sure turning off the pause would trigger an immediate check on all of them at once, since the cooldown period would be over. Depending on how many things you're wearing , and the average charge level you keep them at, this isn't surprising to me.

I mean, I'm just guessing.
- item has a cool down period. (per tikba)
- events happen which cause a check.
- The first step in the check is a character level review, and if you have a pause active, check passes.
- The cool down timer for each item is a fixed amount of time, regardless of the pause.
- When you unpause, you probably, within a very short period of time, do something that causes a check.
So I imagine (again guess) the cooldown timer works like the simu potions and a "This is good until 11/9/24 @ 2:45" (or whatever) gets added to the item data. Your pause is eating smoe of that, but if your pause is shorter/longer it doesn't get reset at all.
So I mean if that is how the system work, then step 4 in that is punishing the player for using pauses. That it doesn't matter if you have a pause or not, that enhancive is destined to lose that charge.
Well, depends on how you're using pauses and how long the cooldown timer is.
It stops, with 100% certainty, enhancive charges being used, while paused. If you're only pausing for short periods of time, like between hunts, yeah, probably not that great. If you're pausing because you're going to go RP for 4 hours, probably a good thing.
it is not really sensible to say it's punishing the player for using pauses. it is correct to say it means pauses are not as meaningful as you might imagine and specifically that short pauses basically don't do anything. pausing isn't costing you anything, it just isn't gaining you anything.
I mean I guess? But pauses do actually cost something. They're very inexpensive, but they do have a cost associated with them.
It would be nice if the enhancive system received type of love/update to it.
I would agree that my takeaway from this is that my pause-centered enhancive management strategy probably is doing a lot less than I imagined it was doing. similarly, if you armoire after a hunt and then armoire back ten minutes later, that is probably gaining you very little.

The cooldown timer on checks is 4 minutes....that's much lower than I expected.
I think nyxus means 4 minutes is about the point at which a pause is worth it, which implies the cooldown timer is longer than that but not an order of magnitude longer, like 10 minutes or something
My pause duration can vary, that's for sure.
Fair. Still shorter than I was thinking though, I was expecting 15 or 30 minutes.
I can’t imagine that adding one extra check trigger (by means of enhancive pause) would meaningfully change the overall calculation. I am under the impression that there are hundreds/thousands of distinct events that cause a check to occur, and the odds of any given check to drain a charge are small. This entire cycle is then further limited by the cooldown period
Yeah, I wasn’t trying to reveal the cooldown. That’s just a wild guess offhand
This sounds correct to me, and there are periodic checks that occur just past the cooldown end regardless

yes, I think the key thing I wanted to get across in the guide is that players seem to spend most of their time thinking about enhancive checks (partly because when you actually lose a charge it is always right after an enhancive check) but that in practice they are almost irrelevant and you should not think about them. if people ARE losing a lot more enhancive charges, which I dunno because I haven't seen any data, it is not going to be because they're getting more enhancive checks.
If that's the case, maybe the cool down timer got messed with somehow, because (again anecdotally) the charges on my monk tats seem to be running 2x as fast. Since about the time bard luck came into play.
I think the last sentence here is the most important concept that lots of people fail to grasp.
from what I've heard in the past stuff doesn't get checked if your pause is on, but there's no 'catch up check' when you turn it back off.
I had an enhancive crumble within 3 seconds after logging in. Feels bad. (My autostart script wasn't even done)
Thats why you alert at 2 charges left not 1.
i check my charges a lot manually, it’s the only way i feel safe

i don't like crumbly; i just check INV ENH LIST and make sure nothing ever gets below 3 charges. ezpz

Same. Sale discounts are a big draw for me. I spend in GS based on available discretionary budget at any given time. I don't find the full price worth the investment for upkeep, but when they go on sale it's appealing enough that I buy in. The amount I have available spend is the same in either case; just in one, I don't, and another I do. They are really nice to have around, though!
