I noticed that the ice-spiked scaley burgee in the arena weren't able to be put in the totem. Might be a good addition to the turtles!

Does anyone know if Castoroides (giant beaver) were ever added to the approved noun list for totems? I don't have access to one anymore to check. I tried a spirit change slip on the test server but didn't see them in nouns for weapons/armor.
I don't know if the wiki gets updated when new things are added but I don't see it anywhere

Castoroides is a ranger companion, it wasn't totem-able when I checked back in August. Trying to decide on a spirit for my armor, and it had me wondering about the beaver.
Does anyone have the defensive crit padding flares unlocked on their totem? I'm wondering what it looks like when it happens in combat. The shop disappeared from the Test server and my only totem there is the crit damage flare.

It’s highly customizable.
The only totem in prime is a crit flare too… you have to buy the cert to flip over until you find the one you want then unlock your totem
I mean the defensive padding one is the best option anyhow
I had used that on my test totem to try the crit dmg but I was going to make a new totem on test to try the defensive options but the shop vanished, so I can't get another cert or totem.

Hey Avaluka, just wanted to say how impressed I am with the level of customization of your items in general.
Is there any possibility of adding a feature concealer unlock on the cowl/hood animalistic headdresses? And if so potentially also with similar customizable messaging for the verbs and look of it?
Wasn't sure where else to ask this.
Does anyone know how the Bestial Power +crit padding flare interacts with crit padding on armor? If my armor is 2CER and the totem gives +4 crit padding, do those stack for +6 or does it take the highest?
Something I probably should have researched better before adding. 😆 (I blame discord search)

On the subject of headdresses, any chance the bug with partial feature concealers could be looked at? It removes the feature line of the headdress when worn.
Honestly I am not sure if that's a bug on my end; might be with the partial concealer? But I don't know whether it can be fixed.

Tried removing the cowl and putting it on after the concealer but it still won't show up.
I had my totem altered at RW and used drakewood fodder in the description. For some reason it would not “accept” the fodder and I was told the alter was likely temporary (until fixed) and if I added anything to it I’d lose the “drakewood”. Has there been any fix for something like this? Can I not add skins/pelts? Haven’t done much with it because I don’t want to lose the “drakewood”.
I am confused. Did you add the drakewood yourself or did you give the drakewood to the merchant, who then altered it to have drakewood? Did the merchant say it was temporary/needed to be "fixed"?
I gave the drakewood to the merchant who altered it, but they had an issue with it and said it’d be temporary. Unless there was a fix? I have no idea how that stuff works. The item is a elven drakewood idol adorned with a wing-shaped piece of silver crowstone.

This sounds like the merchant maybe didn't understand how to alter the item? The only way it'd be temporary is if they used the actual verb trap on the totem with the drakewood fodder to change it instead of using their merchant tools to change it. Can you copy/paste the ANALYZE output for your totem?
The entire analyze is very long, but I can share if needed.

Feeding them plets/skins for the Bestial Power is separate verb from adding things for the change of the totem material, so you won't accidentally change the material if you PUT <skin> in <totem>. If that's what you're worried about. Unfortunately I'd probably need to have a look at the totem itself in-game or through a BUGITEM to see what's up.

So I just picked up an animalistic totem. It looks like I have enough BS to unlock the bestial power, but I'm undecided for which one. Any suggestions for which would be most useful for a casting empath?

The general opinion I've seen is: If you don't mind constantly feeding it skins, go the offensive route(probably CS in your case). If you don't want to micromanage it, go defensive.
I tried offensive on the test server and I was always out of charges, so I went with defensive (crit padding). It has been helpful and is easily managed. One thing I don't like about the flares is that the messaging is between you swinging and the AS/DS calculations, it doesn't look great imo. It'd be nice if it was above everything or had extra spacing like dispel flares.

Hm. That helps, thank you! I do typically use CS more often than bolts, so that would be helpful. I assumed crit weighting wasn't a thing because I'm a caster. Do we know what the flare rate is?

The charge formula for gems is different than the skins.
What is the formula?

I'd imagine the animalistic spirit doesn't care to eat gems near as much as it enjoys skins... looks like 2:1 is an approximate guess there on the formula. So...100k-ish worth of gems to load it up
Don’t quote me on this but it looks like 1 charge = 250 silver base value. Ie: appraisal may be slightly off since it accounts for trading skill

Anyone know if the animal spirit change paper will clear all my custom settings? Specifically the color?

The weapons and armor- my experience had them going back to the default misty green as far as color goes
Man, that's be nice if it at least preserved the color on armor/weapons - even if the rest of the spirit settings reset.
Kind of a bummer to be able to change your group and noun but then still need that merchant just to get back to the same color you already had.
If I wanted to alter something for my totem to be "decorated with cat fur and whiskers", which setting should I have tweaked? miscellaneous or something else? I dont think I can alter a Skin to be "a set of cat whiskers" or "a wad of cat fur"
I think I'm confused about how Fluctuating Focus works. With two types of Bestial Power available on my totem now, how do I switch between them?
I know switching while in combat is not possible. How do I switch between them outside of combat? I don't see a verb for it; the wiki suggests that putting skins in the totem does the switching. I must be reading something incorrectly or misunderstanding in some other way.

When unlocked, the spiritual essence inside the idol can help you passively in combat. Only one of four paths can be chosen, and this cannot be changed once unlocked.
Abilities happen at a standard flare rate during combat if there are enough charges available.

Originally you had to choose 1 path with these things. Then this was introduced to allow you to have multiple paths and swap between them.

i see now, i interpreted the wiki that the 15BS scroll allows switch and access to all 4, kinda confusing wording but i finaly get it
Its not "the greatest" savings since you are paying half the price of a new totem just to be able to switch between two types on one totem.
Does the new totem ability that allows it to change its beast power switch with TURN affect its movement style TURN verb?

Am i wrong in thinking that the wordage of the Fluctuating Focus is misleading? It sounds like you can switch between any of the four, and not an additional of the four

its worded poorly, i had the same question. I think quite a few things are either worded poorly or vague on the wiki, or maybe its just because my base knowledge of all the new things in the game is so poor from taking a very long break from the game

I think the threshold is 100gp for skins. I'm not sure for gems yet
Most simply use the totem for fluff and rare emergencies as the maintenance cost was never designed for frequent utilization. Caveat emptor.

Actually, I think something has changed with the totems' ability to capture things. I was able to capture a velnalin just now, but I wasn't able to capture a spirit from a set of Animalistic Spirit boots. This may be why you can't capture your unicorn, Luxelle?

I will try to pencil in a look into this over the weekend; I know I am a bit behind on my bug squashing. This may have been something that happened when the totems got moved over to the new system and didn't get fixed yet.
I was able to get my spooky horsey before, so there was a thing. But ooh yours has a costume! 😮 @boreal basalt 
I actually made it a bit easier to alter the spirits in the totems so they can have long descriptions that are custom instead of just having to capture them from creatures with long descriptions already. I am unsure how many other GMs are comfortable with the totem spirit alterations, though.
I do have a place for it, and turned the totem to the free slot before pointing.
But all t his reminds me I should get a couple extra free slots. Just in case the mood strikes me.

I see now how vague that was, sorry. I dont mean the attunable spirit options but rather the noun of the totem itself.
Alterations are fine, though the noun must be "idol", "totem", or "fetish".
I greatly enjoy the thing! But idol, totem, fetish isn't quite what I'd prefer if I had my druthers. If it's possible that other alternatives are possible, that'd be wonderful. If not, I understand. It's a fair bit of coding lines.

Just noting here I am aware of "unicorn" not currently working properly - I'm currently considering the best spot for it. It accidentally didn't get categorized when the totems moved to use the universal animal category/noun system. I just want to be sure when it gets added in that it will not bork anything else using this system; thanks for your patience!

OK - the unicorn fix will have to be delayed a little bit, as Animalistic Spirits will have to be updated to likely allow the noun, too, and that may be why it got overlooked before. TBD! Hopefully it won't be too big of a change but it won't be happening today.
Ki-lin, another special horned one, weren't an option originally, not sure if they made it on any list yet
