Minor bug for the Big W Man: when tinkering with an arm, the tinkerer sees both first person and third person messaging. Those in the room see nothing.

Lots of description requests, and I think we can try to make a lot of people happy with the outcome. But I'm going to have to shift the description stuff a little further back. The goal is to have it like this:

  • Article (15 characters): Size
  • Adjective (15 characters): Material
  • Noun (15 characters): Golem, Automaton, or Construct
  • Long Description: Use a part it has and some other stock options.

All that will be in control by the player once we're in the final phases of this going out. Some known bugs.

  • You can summon more than one.
  • This might be a more long term fix with the pet system, but I need to look into it, as the pet system will impact teadragons, mandrakes, cats, lambs, foxes, and whatever else!
  • There are a few typos with extra articles.
  • These are mostly fixed, just have to roll it.
  • Cat references are still visible.
  • Meow.

I should have Phase 1.5 out in a little bit. We're a little behind from the pin just because some other stuff was discovered. I appreciate the patience with it. I'm glad it's on the pet system because it can do more, but there were a few big changes with it that I struggled with. Mostly because the plan was always to have Quee integration and flexibility for you to make it look different.

I think what I appreciate most about the golem system is that it's a different way of being creative. Since you can never alter them, you have to mix and match the parts, rather than writing something from scratch. It's like Legos instead of a painting. I think it's neat there's a system for that kind of expression.

Yes. The idea behind it was not to remove the need to find all parts. And since most all arms and legs have matching sets, it had a design flaw when I allowed it temporarily to change the noun.

As Leuthil said, you can have four arms and four legs as the noun doesn't change when tinkered. At the moment, they still walk upright. (I have a golem with four arms). Unsure if there will be an option to change this as Wyrom expands the pet features. There were a lot of heads that suggested four legs (thraks, roltons, unicorns, dogs, etc). There was also the art with the four-legged golem dog.

Just a quick note here about summoning multiple golems. It is not intentional by the design of them. In the notes for the pet system, it was stated that it is a limit to prevent system strain, but looks like it was either reverted at some point or it was never implemented. So don't plan on having two golems out, because it will likely be closed up at some point. For now it's an unintended feature. With how many golems will be out there compred to a fox or a mandrake, I do think it's safe to say I want to make sure there is a limit on summoning more than one for the game's sake. I just don't want there to be hard feelings if it's something that stays because a system wasn't doing the checks. So keep a second golem at your own peril (or because you just want to swap them out).

Once you do that and have all the parts added, you will need to head to the bloodforge and OFFER CHASSIS to finish it. Be warned, once you take this step, there is no going back for an exp orb. You do not need to do it this run, but parts will no longer drop after this run. So feel free to save what you might want. There will be ways to get parts in the future, they just won't be linked to the event directly.

There are no ambience really in this yet. But no, there aren't any unique actions per part. To do that, I would really need to restrict everything, which I could do, but it would mean absolutely no customization down the road. I don't want the golem to take on a whole different angle, it's mostly an entry level pet unique to 2024. The chassis will not be offered again. The goal is for the vaults to offer some sort of unique item per year that you build at the event. So the mechspinner from RW won't be offered again either. But I hate to say never, because assets get reused down the road, but the plan is this is mostly retired. Maybe there will be a higher buy-in cost at some event as a last chance like the potato or silver gathering charm. Parts won't be though, and more parts will be available in the future.

But the struggle on the update coming when planned is, I do want to offer a little more than I planned, but I have to redo some of how the parts are stored. Like the redundancy of left and right arms. I have an idea, but I wish I did it back in February, haha.

If you got into a situation where you have a vault that you can't redeem, I can exchange it for equal value. If you want a refund in SimuCoins, that has to go through billing, but I do believe billing is out as of Thursday. You can still get the refund, but there will just be a delay. You can shuffle the vault to another character as well if people are buying them on the secondary market.

Just another update from me.

Item builds have 2 forms of customization we can do when it comes to text that isn't prebuilt into the script. We have one that is relatively limited, which gives me about 10 fields to work with. We can pack those fields quite a bit if we want to, but then you get into situations where characters, delimiters, etc need to be accounted for. Or you can use the much bigger area for customization, but it requires data tables on the item. I originally accounted for only head, plates, gears, right arm, left arm, right leg, left leg and a furnace (engine). I then wanted to account for the full description when summoned as well as Quee. But with seeing some suggestions and how the pet system works, I can do a lot more if I switch to the much thorough version of customizations. I just didn't in February. So I need to convert, which is fine and easy to do. But in order to do that, I need to make sure I really account for everything because it's sort of a one-shot thing once I go for it without having to make everyone ASSIST.

That's what the hold up is, but the results will be something I think everyone will be happier with. It's sort of my MO when events run, and I get that it probably seems like a lack of foresight. But understand it comes from a place to make everyone more pleased with an end result. Most times it's hard to truly know how the end result will be until it's live.

It is more of an entry-level pet that doesn't come with a massive price tag or a really low drop rate. I just want to make sure it hits a few key areas of uniqueness and I want to make sure the customizations are purely in your hands so that it has more combinations than originally planned for.

Make sure to at least have enough parts to finish your golem. You don't need to finish anything in 2024, you just need to have the chassis and the parts. Parts will be available after this, but not as a drop at the event. And it won't be a common offering. You do need to visit the bloodforge to finish it, so if you don't finish today or tomorrow, you're waiting until February.

So if someone wants to swing by and take 1-2 copies of things they are using or think they might use, that's fine.

There may be that many spare parts, but I have mixed feelings on how they went out. My partner and I each bought a battle vault for the chassis in February, and then bought another battle vault each for the orb this September. Out of all our runs, we only saw two automatons. If we had been unable to complete our golems, after buying into them twice, I would have had an entirely negative opinion about the whole distribution system. As it is, I think if community engagement and piles are necessary for completing the SimuCoin purchased items, then the community needs support for tables, containers, and ways for it to work that does not require a 'room holder' to sit there all day.

As for the golem part drop, completely understand and appreciate the feedback. But it's also something the company wishes out of pay events. There were 190 extra parts per chassis that was kept this run. I don't have the data from last run available quickly. The idea surrounding it was to promote trading with others. If I ever noticed the parts per chassis dipping too low, I would have attempted to switch things up.

And as I mentioned, parts will be available at future offerings. Not for silver. But not drops either.

I was going to build an actual consignment NPC that only has a budget of X and requires players to buy from it to be able to sell more. But I think the player bags were a good community effort that I didn't want to disrupt.

If you use Wrayth you can squelch whatever text you'd like. Copy the text, highlight, Right-click copy to ignores. Try to grab the common text that will appear for all golem movement.

I figure we'll have one soon as possible cause I know DR only ended the end of Aug, and EG is secretly yesterday, but he took in a lot of suggestions from everyone that I'm guessing (and definitely wildly so having zero experience in this area to say either with confidence or to the contrary) changed the trajectory of how he had some things ready to go. I'm excited too though and will be roasting marshmallows at EG.

The golems were built on their own system originally, but we converted them to the pet system, as I thought they had a lot more built-in features that did what I was ultimately going to do with the golems. Unfortunately I learned the pet system did not have any of the things I needed and some modular design that was originally created for the system was not being used. No one's fault, just the original design not lining up. But I coded them based on Retser's prototype, the cat, and a lot of functions did not work. On top of that, some of the features you all want aren't possible under the current build. Right now there are 2 different ways to store text strings on an item, I'm using the easier of the two because that's all I thought I'd need. But to make them a bit more customizable, I have to convert them to the more complex variety and I have to get it completely correct on the first conversion, as I won't be able to do multiple conversions. So it's going a bit slower than I wanted. Duskruin ended on the 8th, and the problem with events is there is loads of work after an event concludes for me. That and EG ramping up, not a very good combination. I'm not building the lantern, but I'm QCing the lantern that is going into the Reunion Vaults, which is still a good chunk of work. But that's not really delaying things for the golems. It's just fixing the pet system so that I can use it for the golems better. They'll be done soon, it won't be too much longer.

Hey gang. So this took a lot longer than I wanted it to. But the next phase will be the ability to ADD parts to the created golem. There will also be a way to change the height/size and noun. With this change, a new part will exist that will be the body of the golem, a frame. You don't need a frame, but by default it will now be a "metal" frame. This will change your golems to be "a [size] [metal] [golem]" and any current ones will be metal. But good news! We will be selling frames at the Harvest Luminary Festival. Yeah, so one of the complaints was no one realized plates would govern the base material of the golem. And when I flip the switch on how this works, I needed to pick a path that would allow further customization. The frames aren't going to be expensive, you will be able to get pretty much everything that already exists for pretty small amount of tickets. Some new stuff will get released that is a little more rarer though. Stuff that wasn't part of the original drops at Duskruin.

I definitely had golems that didn't quite turn out how I wanted/expected, like assuming that having "kelyn crystal-studded plates" meant I'd have "an [adjective] kelyn crystal-studded golem" when actually it's just "an [adjective] kelyn golem."

First order of business is just converting the golems to the way. When Quee gets added, he will come with updates too. Such as the instant exp vs field exp (toggle). The golem will also have a lot more messaging added after this too since it will fix another issue.

The frame was a necessary way forward to allow the customizations to the way your golem looks. Many people did not know that the metal of the plates would govern the look of the golem and would have chose differently. So I had to change how the data was stored on the backend. I did it the best way I could without having to have anyone assist to fix them. I put all the frames out pretty low, since 25 tickets are about ~17,000 silver. The soul shards method was requested, so I made two separate shops that are far away from each other so no one could mix them up. So while the Windows analogy is fairly accurate, I thought the price point made it more on the reasonable side. Plus, many people who were unhappy with the adjective on their golem had a really easy way out.
