Yeah, I don't either, but this is a case where there are already so many plans for expansion in August that it made me wonder.
But this is literally the only item where I've ever even considered attuning, so if I did, sticking premium enhancives on it would be a natural followup.

a couple of us have asked about a potential "override" unlock that could allow it to override an existing flare, but obviously that would be next DR at the earliest and would need lots of approvals and so on

If they didn't cost stamina, they'd be stupidly overpowered. No item difficulty, rotating flares...
a 0 stamina cost item would surpass a lot of god auction items

Just a request to consider b/c I absolutely love these gloves, but already have weapons I've put a lot into in buying Cat B flares on (dispel and acuity in particular, since I've bumped those up a couple times too), if there was ever an option to take an existing Cat B flare on a weapon and "transfer" it over to the gloves, I'd be all in. Even if it's like a HESS cert for like 10k BS or something, it'd be super awesome, so I could get an awesome item like these gloves and just be paying a "surcharge" or whatever to preserve a past purchase in a cooler format.

I would pay a surcharge as well to transfer an existing flare.
Another benefit is that I'm more likely to "collect them all" in gloves format vs being done with flares if they remain on the weapon.

How are you finding the stamina cost to be in practice
It's only a concern when I'm berserking (in the arena). It's manageable enough then, too. In my walks through the red forest, I stayed over 80% stamina the whole time, and the flares felt like normal frequency.
One thing I didn't expect is that once you unlock GEF, you can't turn it off. If you choose an elemental flare, it's always the greater version.
EDIT: I now see that Naiken and others discussed this exact thing much further up in the forum thread.
On the other hand, you can turn the lesser moods on and off normally just like the item-based version of them.
In what scenario would you like to turn off the GEF?
If I were concerned about stamina but still wanted to use an elemental flare, I might want to toggle GEF off temporarily.

Anyone experience issues with these with certain scripts? I did a test with a splitter, and when it was opened I could not get the gloves to flare. The splitter has nothing in the ability slot. When I closed it into a single weapon, and popped a sonic weapon into my primary the combined splitter started flaring.

Can't seem to get flares on my animalistic spirit + paladin bonded weapon. I did see it flare on other plain weapons. Also no moods seem to trigger even though I bought that too... I bugged it

pound =10k, elemental flares =15k, steam =30k, and GEF = 60k...not sure what the ROI is for tiering up on these things hmmm

there are no unlocks for dispel/accuity/mana flares for the gloves this run. maybe in august. you'd just be at the base (1 for sipel, 6x acuity, +3 mana)

Make sure the bottom of the SENSE menu shows what you want to flare as on. You're showing magma on and lightning off there.

The moods are only going to trigger if the flares can trigger. Do paladin bonded weapons have the ability slot blocked? If so, that's the problem.
I haven't been keeping up with this thread, but my understanding is acuity/mana flares are for runestaves only, right? I know they can't work while holding a weapon, but I'm more interested if I can get them to work while open-handed casting.
By default 1625 grants Cat B Plasma Flares. The gloves can't override those.

the certificate messaging refers mainly to Acuity, Dispel, and Mana flares. Acuity and Mana don't start at their minimums, so you can jump to +30 or +3 without needing the flare to already exist at the previous tier
does the Bonded Paladin Weapon effect anything, thats the original No flares guy I had
some certs may be released/sold that require, for example, +2 Mana before you can get to +3. stuff like that
paladin flares do use the Cat B slot, so they won't work with Flare Gloves
thanks I think I'll focus on the physical flares for damage but have to decide which makes the most sense. if something doesn't die or get stunned first hit thinking a further chance to knock down/disable is better for me than just some more damage
Mechanical usefulness aside, I've been having a tremendous amount of fun swapping flares around on my weapons. I'm playing with flares I never had the opportunity to try out previously.

it's definitely better to test for realsies i hope we get the DR on test thing and it becomes a permanent fixture, but if you're using a flaring weapon now and using lich you could do a quick alias to count your flares during a hunt and keep track (that's what i did when i was curious how it would play out on my bard).

Typically TWC unlocks are how you enable the left hand behaviors for things - unsure if that's the case here, but I suspect it might be

I mean, nearly everything in the game is right hand centric. You're trying to enable offhand functionality, that requires the offhand unlock. But yeah, just speculating. I would expect that you need to unlock TWC if you plan to use as TWC, and it just wouldn't flare/consume stamina for the main hand

The gloves only care if your weapon has Lesser Moods or GEF. Otherwise, the weapon script has no impact and will do its thing

It does work with animal weapons if they do not have a cat B flare. It will not replace your animal flare; they will both work. They won’t replace Holy Fire flares either

Two handed weapons would not use both hands. You would only get the unlinked unlock to use both hands for the pound ability. You could have two different flares for pound.
And the gloves only work on weapons, not shields.
If you pound with dispel flares, does it dispel up to 5 critters? Or does it only flare disruption on pound?

yes. it's similar to when the flare set/change cooldown ends
it also appears in your Cooldown window if it's open
this applies to flares that have different levels/tiers, like Acuity, Dispel, and Mana. the shop currently has Dispel +1 (the minimum), so it's not relevant there. the Acuity and Mana certs add a higher tier than the minimum, and those certs don't require the flare already existing at a lower tier

The only way I could see it being a trap is if future GS dev somehow makes UC so powerful that other options for physical combatants pale in comparison and you therefore no longer want your gloves, but I wouldn't rate that as more than about a 0.000001% possibility.

so you can use them unarmed and set the hands to flares for attacking with held weapons

Arm greaves wouldn't help me, but I could give up a wrist or ring a lot more easily than I can give up my gloves. The only character I have that could use these wears mechanical vambraces, and that seems like a fun combo.

Are you about to suggest that there's some method to the madness of how and when DR-sold items interact with the bonuses and limitations of other DR-sold items?
I'm suggesting that things that interact with the cat b/ability slot all follow the same general rules, it's script slots that kinda get crazy and do basically whatever their script allows.

Not sure if this has been discovered yet, but the gloves seem to be draining on holy water flares as well as their own flares--mana in this case. This happens even if the holy water flare is the only one going off:

Edit: Hmm... upon further investigation, this only seems to happen very specifically on 413. Holy water flares don't drain on damaging spells (or at least not 705 and 719). ~~Also, even with 413, the gloves won't drain if a T2 sigil dispel goes off in the same cast as a holy water flare. There could be some weird interplay of order of operations, disablers, auto-success, pre-attack resolution, etc. going on. 🤔~~
Edit 2: As the sample size grows, the inconsistency grows. *Sometimes* it drains on 413(+holy water flare) and sometimes it doesn't. (Sidenote: It can also drain on 715(+holy water flare), though so far I've only gotten that to work (or holy water to flare, for that matter) on a 715 cast *that isn't the first*, meaning it gets automatically deflected. So that might be more an issue with 715 than with the gloves.)

Thinking about buying my bard a new spore longbow and some flare gloves as his new toys. Before I do something dumb, these work with bows right? I just can't add anything to the bow's ability slot? Is there a mechanism to buy a right or a left hand glove? Does unlink just give you the option to have two different flares active at once for using with TWC, but you don't need to worry about that functionality at all with a single weapon?
I dunno, the stamina costs are super low in practice... As a warmage, with both flares active on the gloves (back when they were funly broken), I didn't get below 80% of my stamina in a group arena

nah, not worth the 60k for me. I have an off hand gef lightning already. Im using the magma flares on my off hand stake and off hand crowbill.
I considered grapple, as that plus magma feels like a potent pound combo....but ....I don't trust Asc critters not to just ignore half the games disables and mechancs. Alot of them do now already. I'd rather go for what I know works

According to Naiken, it would not have any effect on the bane. I was curious about that as well as I was looking to upgrade my compartment quiver this DR and didn't want it to have any effect on them.

ok so I looked through the logs and see the following. I would normally shield bash before ambush. since I didn't I would guess I was low on stamina. Probably why I see it more on flesh golems since they don't crit and ambush is pretty worthless. I spend a lot of time attacking them instead.

I tried a different area over at aenatumgana but didn't see the issue. although they all crit except ice golems and I didn't see it on them. I had some work meetings and a contractor at the house now. I will test once I am done. based on the logs I am not sure there was a drain since I was low enough on stamina I didn't shield bash. I didn't see the typical fatigued message which should be shown if I used stamina and was low.

Here's an example of this with a magma flare. The only reason I knew it went off was because I saw the effect applied. The molten magma rapidly cools and hardens into constricting rock. Strands of crimson energy lash onto the cave lizard from the crimson eahnor machete!I think I remember this draining stamina. I was berserking at the time, so I'm not 100% sure the drain was solely from the flare. I do know that the only source of magma flares this character has is his Flare Gloves.
you know I think I've seen this bug with other scripts...I'm thinking Globus Elanthias but not sure if I can confirm - but maybe it's a flare bug and not directly related to this script

Not very common but I noticed this many times back in the day when I used to use Globus Elanthias.
ok caught it but I was a little slow in getting the stamina command. there was no stamina drain as I had 2 stamina at the time. the stamina command shows 22 as it pulsed before I could type. you see I get 20 per pulse and I was watching when it happened and I had 2 stamina

So yeah just to recap -- animal weapon worked great with flare gloves, then at some point today it stopped working (confirmed that the gauntlets work with a plain weapon). Really the only possible things to change with the animal weapon today are (1) I died a few times (2) I poured a pure potion on it (I thought that long expired though) and (3) a critter cast weapon fire on me, and I died from said weapon fire

I think the resists is a script message. The "Nothing happens" is nothing getting dispelled.
We solved it! - something bizarre about the pure potion and/or a regular bless as well. The bless was taking the flare slot, and also the bless was NOT depleting. Definitely logging a bug, but GM Haxus figured it out

They should. That being said, if they aren't losing their bless that could be the problem. I know that when they made the bless changes that some things with a legacy bless were stuck in a bless state that you couldn't remove/do things with.
Maybe try some different arrows and see?

Yeah I will say I had a recent odd issue with blesses affecting the flare ability.. not with arrows, but a GM said he saw "new bless and old bless" on my weapon and it was preventing the flaring

that being said the GM put a "new"(?) bless on to test, and I was getting holy water and the glove flares, so.. yeah idk beyond my knowledge other than "blesses are weird with these gloves"

Ranged is still in an odd spot where you bless the bow but sometimes old stuff still checks the arrow....it's kind of the heart of the great never fixed ever annoying ranged can't hit demon bug....it's checking for 8x on arrows you can't enchant anymore instead of the bow

the key seems to be having less than the necessary stamina. It always seems to be the same level of flare "minor burns" and 5 damage.

I was noticing it with both magma and dispel. The having less than the stamina necessary thing is plausible from the experience I had.

glad I could help in some small way. I do really appreciate the gloves. Makes it easier to use project weapons without making them more difficult to add player services. Also definitely is useful for areas that certain flares are hazardous.
I can't pinpoint it, but there does seem to be a path in which the flares get "stuck." My bard wasn't flaring, so at first I thought it might be related to the cleric bless (since that was brought up previously) but it seemed to persist in non-undead areas too. I did some fidgeting (turn the flares OFF then ON again) as well as changing from my GEF lighting to dispel and it seemed to un-stuck them.
Working as expected now, and no clear cause as of yet. Will keep an eye.

No, stuck meaning they wouldn't activate. I didn't get any GEF flares for 2 or 3 hunts, so I started toying with them and all of a sudden they started working again. Seemingly after switching to dispel (saw those activate nearly immediately) then returning to GEF
how long or how many swings is a hunt?
you probably won't see GEF flare as often as the normal flare. if the gloves seem stuck on a particular weapon, i don't think it's something that resolves itself. if the flares start happening again, things must be working as expected
Several hundred swings, 1035 bard go vroom. And I hunt to bounty completion, so there is essentially 0% chance that I wouldn't see a single flare over the course of 3 bounties (~15 minutes a piece, dozens of mobs)
But at any rate, just sharing it in case anyone sees similar behavior. As of yet it hasn't repeated itself, so nothing actionable on your end

i found that when holding two weapons with flares (probably) that when wearing an lesser mood unlocked glove and interact with them to toggle the moods on/off i get this messaging.. You sense no suitable power within the crimson rune expression on your grey leather gauntlets.
When I had my bless issue, the weapon in particular would not trigger flares regardless of it was vs undead or regular enemies. The bless was "stuck on" the weapon in my case
goals of course was a lesser mood non functional item that would work universaily on a handheld, but it appears that is just a dream

How is magma as a flare in general?

You've gotten the right responses, so here's one that's correct: it's a fire flare plus a slow effect for the target. Which is a really nice combination. The elemental flares are basically equivalent (lightning is very slightly better), so this makes magma probably better than the elemental flares.

Yes, I’ve had magma flares on my bow for ages. There’s a message when the effect fades that indicates the hardened magma crumbling away
Didn't see anything in the pins and my Discord-fu is weak, so apologies if this was already asked. Is there currently any way to add more dispel or mana flares to the base +1/+3 offered right now? If not, will there be in the future? Do the HESS add dispel or +mana flares work on the gloves?

Are you sure? The logs I've been posting here are from my weapons having lesser moods but no ability slot flare. The gloves are working for them. Or maybe I misunderstood.

I just doubled checked, and yes, they have moods. They're sanctified and have been firing off moods from that since whenever it was that I put them on (probably last DR). My gloves also have moods.
Lesser Moods doesn't block flares, but it should block Lesser Moods
That's a moot point though, right? If both the weapon and the gloves have lesser moods, I'm not sure we'd be able to figure out which ones are firing on the user side.
not necessarily. if your weapon has Lesser Moods but no inherent flare, and Moods is firing with flare messaging (and not bless, etc.), it's likely the gloves
but that shouldn't be happening
the gloves should only allow Lesser Moods when it's granting your weapon a flare, and when that's the case, it should only give you messaging for the flare (in case it is blessed)

I bugged that again, waited a few months, Avaluka came by to make sure it wasn't the animal script. She said it was moods + firewheel. I bugged again, Thandiwe looked into it, said it was a moods thing and needed a fix. This was during aug duskruin. Then someone came along and erased the 'nothing unusual line' in the background but left the spacing wrong. So now its.... (cooldown drumroll)

Its hard to notice, but there is an extra space there before "you also notice..."
Firewheel flares also don't show on loresongs. No idea if that has anything to do with it. This isn't a firewheel material weapon. Its one of those few weapons that just had the flares added without the material change.

the moods themselves work, I get some fire, some lightning, some sanct. Its just the show that's been through the mill

the glyph and everything else is added by another system, which is very old. over the years, we've handled things in different ways. i'm not sure why it adds another two spaces, but other items' show descriptions might account for that

actually, it's not really Lesser Moods at fault. the other system has some assumptions in its logic that don't fully account for subscripting

so what i mean is that if you were able to add custom flare messaging or Flare Affinity, they should work when Flare Gloves are in play on your weapon, but that doesn't exempt your items from any restrictions the certificates may have. and i apologize if what i said was misleading should be no problem refunding if you want that
sorry if this has been asked but will the flares given by these gloves work to counter the elemental heating and cooling effects of the confluence?
I may be wrong, but my understanding of this item is that the flare doesn't exist on the item it just flares as if the item had flares, so for the heating/cooling things I'm fairly sure they look at the item properties and they'll be empty at that time it checks.

Lesser moods can't be customized, no. They're just ambients based on the item properties
Greater Moods can be customized. Lesser Moods is a subscriptable version that can't be customized
So if flare gloves were to apply to shields in the August shop would they be new gloves or apply to the current gloves as well?

it's not my script, so i'm not sure. you can get Greater Moods added to an item without customization. it provides the same messaging as Lesser Moods
but later you can customize messaging
Greater would take up the main script slot and prevent any subscripting

I don't know if this is the best place to put it but i have 2 requests i'd like to put in regarding flare gloves.
- The ability to add custom flares messaging to weapons that do not have flares (this is as a result of flare messaging not working on weapons that do not have flares)
- The pound ability on flaring gloves to actually do something when mana flares are selected. (i dont really have a suggestion for what, maybe x mana per creature affected? though if it were only 3 per creature that would be pretty weak) maybe increased chance of mana flare activation for X seconds.
Do the Right to Flare Arms gloves work with bows? I'm on the test server trying them out with a storebought bow but haven't seen a single flare proc.

the gloves come with both hands turned on, but once you add the first flare, you need to set a hand to it

Going by the old saved messages for the vambraces, it sounds like they're briefly considered to be held in the hand during the attack, though I admit I may be not understand it properly.
I think for vampraces it might depend on order of opperation, you do technically "hold" the weapon for the attack action, it's just a question of if that happens before the flare gloves checks if there's weapons there, I'd lean toward it doesn't work, BUT you can test on the test server if you like
so first off, i love that you added the pound flares for mana / acuity.
what i am curious about though, is i love the pound ability. i think this could be usable by even more people. could we get an option where if the flares are off, you can pound and get some sort of grapple attack? then the gloves would be usable by everyone regardless of weapon

Looks like they work with the vambrace attacks. I definitely haven't done anything with the blades since I got them, and put lightning on the gloves.

it'd have to be a separate version. an unlock can't turn them into UCS
Would you consider making the UCS version not gloves so it doesn't replace the weapon gloves? Rings or socks or something? Being incompatible with existing gear would be a big ask, but giving up the script slot too really cuts into the appeal.

yeah I think for this concept you'd rather have like a ring that you wear under your gloves that empowers the gloves...so you can wear your scripted UCS gloves and get the flares from the ring. Otherwise you are losing the UCS script slot.
With the current gloves you still get to keep your weapon's script b/c the gloves don't prevent you from holding the weapon with the script.

Making the UCS version of these gloves a ring (for example) instead of gloves is just preserving the ability to still have a script on your weapon (which with UCS, is gloves (and boots)).
EDIT: Tikba with the current gloves you get "double script" on your weapon b/c you have your weapon's script + the script from the gloves.
totally fair 🙂 just elaborating on Obelin's concern about the UCS-version preventing the use of normal weapon scripts (by blocking the inventory slot) which is not a concern with the current iteration

I'm really not trying to change the concept. With the current version, you wear an accessory that's in contact with your weapon to grant it flares. But for UCS, the weapon is gloves.
Being able to use the gloves to add magma or GEF or whatever to a Fighting Knife or Parasite Rapier or whatever is rad. But if the UCS version means giving up Animalistic Spirit or using an unscripted Razorpaw, I don't know who that's for.
the non-glove item would probably be functional, and then people will complain about needing it in some other slot!

I think the idea is to wear the UCS version of these gloves, so you can use UCS attacks, but they're also compatible with regular weapons.
It's the difference between the current version being on gloves that work with a dagger versus just being a script on a dagger. I guess I can't speak for everybody, but a big part of the appeal here is that they're completely separate from the weapon that's flaring. If the UCS version has them on gloves, I guess they're still slightly better than Realm flares, but making it the weapon really is changing the concept. I'd rather have some flaring brass knuckles eating a wrist or ring slot that I can pass around to any brawler with OTS scripted gloves.

It just comes down to some people have UCS gear already that's irreplaceable, so we don't get to use these cool gloves. Which overall is fine, as you mentioned the game offers choices.
I guess I just don't understand what UCS Flare Gloves are in this context. Every one of my characters that uses UCS is unarmed and wearing functional gloves. Even if they're not scripted, the slot is full. There is no room for another set of functional gloves to give the first gloves flares.

if you're wearing UCS Flare Gloves, they will bestow flares to held weapons just like non-UCS Flare Gloves

Right, but it's very unlikely that anyone would pick a plain magma flaring weapon over most scripts. That's why it was so huge that these can apply to any scripted weapon outside of UCS. Their ability to augment other gear is their strength, not the flares themselves.

Ok so I bought this glove, most of my characters are runestaff users, so I put acuity on the glove and then I lost my mind and put magma and now I have to ask, do you need something else for the magma flare to work? Like is that for non runestaff users? Also, my alts have animalistic gear, would the grapple flare be appropriate for them? Or does any flare work? (I ask because of this comment in the shop listing- [The flare may be required to already exist or be a lower increment.]

but if you unlock Pound and Unlinked, both hands will flare against targets
when holding weapons, the hands are independent. your runestaff would only draw from the right hand
sorry, does this mean if i have say left: lightning and right: fire, unlinked and use pound i will get both lightning and fire flares going off?
