Thanks for the snowglobe!

You remove a star-etched glass snowglobe containing a model of the Raging Thrak Inn from in a corroded brass chest.

The creator has also provided the following information:

This is an EzScripted item. Some alteration restrictions may apply. It has the following messaging:

flip
1st Person: You turn the snowglobe upside down and give it a shake before righting it again. Tiny snowflakes swirl violently inside the glass before drifting down and blanketing the model within.
3rd Person: Vyrshkana turns the snowglobe upside down and gives it a shake before righting it again. Tiny snowflakes swirl violently inside the glass before drifting down and blanketing the model within.

Really cool - but missed a golden opportunity for it to be like a magic 8ball.... shake it, and each time the raging thrak appears holding a different cue card with one of his lessons 🙂

But that's the beauty of it being an EZscripted item.

I can add that.

Gestaul found a pretty cool item this morning. Posting it's details here for him.

>look box
The yew box is very sturdy and is expertly crafted. There is a door on the top of the box, though it appears to have nothing in the way of a hinge or catch to open. Curiously, a well-oiled handle protrudes from one side.

>recall box
As you recall Jewelina's song, you feel a faint resonating vibration from the yew box in your hand, and you learn something about it...

It is a holy item.
It is currently imbedded with the Natural Colors spell.
It has 19 charges.
It could be activated by rubbing it.
It will disintegrate after its last magical charge has been expended.
It is a small item, under a pound.
It is estimated to be worth about 5,000 silvers.
It is magic resistant.
It is predominantly crafted of yew.
It has a permanently unlocked loresong by Jewelina.

>turn box
You turn the crank on the side of the yew box causing an odd metallic-sounding melody to emanate from it. Suddenly the top of the yew box springs open! Amid a shower of confetti, a carved wooden jester pops out attached to a tightly-coiled spring! The jester's jeweled eyes twinkle and its hand jerks up and points right at you!

You seem to blend into the surroundings better.

>analyze box
You analyze the yew box and sense that the item is largely free from merchant alteration restrictions.

The creator has also provided the following information:

This must stay a box of some sort.

You get no sense of whether or not the box may be further lightened.```

...That is definitely a candidate for magic item permification!

You remove a hyssop-carved cerise steel pattern from in your mithril strongbox.
>anal pattern
You analyze the cerise steel pattern and sense that the item is flagged as Alteration Fodder. It cannot be altered. See ALTER 41 for more information on alter fodder items.

This item is used exclusively for gemcutters.

It may be altered under limited circumstances.
It must be in the format of "a <shape>,<color> <metal>,pattern" like "a lion-shaped yellow steel pattern".```

He looks over the maoral trunk, frowns, and tells you, "Havin' some trouble, eh? Of course I could open this, but it'll cost ya. Gimme 6,165 silvers, and I'll have it open before you know it."

Your careful inspection of a dingy brown leather helm allows you to conclude that it is miscellaneous armor that covers the head.

You determine that you could wear the helm on your head. The helm appears to serve some purpose.

It looks like this item has been mainly crafted out of leather, an extremely common material. This item is intended to be supplied for an alteration.```
#

Seems kind of odd to have received the feeder messaging on that; not even pawnable. I saw Wyrom's mention that default items will be marked as alter materials but that doesn't really explain why I got special messaging for literal junk.

lapis talon
#

...possibly because they're testing the system.

formal ridge
#

In short yeah. Right now, we're having the system mark everything as "able to be used as alter fodder" but that doesn't change any of the rules around whether or not you need fodder. Ultimately, a lot of rare materials, especially decorative, don't have a way in the system to detect that they need fodder provided. Altering had been a manual process for a LONG time. So we wanted to err on the side of caution. A rare wood rune staff from the feeders should be usable as alter fodder. This means all items have to be marked.

The messaging does need to be tweaked though. You shouldn't be prevented from altering the items themselves. It's just that the item is also guaranteed to work as fodder, even if it's not necessary

lapis talon
#

...so once testing is done and the new feeders are live (out of testing), will those previously known as junk items (the helm, the longcoat) still be marked as alteration fodder or no? Because I figured they'd only be marked as fodder now during the test phase because it is the test phase and you don't want to test with the actualfax things

formal ridge
#

I don't have a definitive answer on that yet. It'll be a long time before we have a solid way on our end to detect "junk" though.

#

I guess a follow up question is, what is the problem with wool or silk being marked alter fodder? Just the confusion on not knowing what is needed?

lapis talon
#

I think it's the perception? Because we've never needed things like silk or wool or leather for alterations.

#

alter fodder is rare materials like forest silk or wyrwood or whatever.

warm torrent
#

Yep; it was a bit of a “wait? What?” moment when I saw leather marked as an alter material.

lapis talon
#

I mean, the way it's functioning now is fine for testing, but if it's going to stay this way it becomes "everything is alter fodder".

formal ridge
#

Noted. What I can say is that the intention is not to force a need for fodder for common items.

lethal jay
#

I think "everything is alter fodder" is good, actually.

some highly detailed ceremonial full plate

Elegantly crafted, small swirls are detailed elaborately into the armor. A polished, bronze sun surrounded by blooming roses adorn the center of the breastplate. Polished bronze fleur-de-lis apertures stud the armor, while a single red silk accent hangs from the left shoulder.

All this I read states that you are trying to improve the system for alter fodder. Does this mean that the goal is, that in the future you are going to no longer allow certain other items ie: armor weapons and shields (to be used as actual fodder) so if say I want to alter a mundane non combat item into say one comprised of eonake or maybe white ora, I will be required to provided a super rare fodder item in place of a weapon like done in the past?

#

This almost seems, and maybe I’m just being skeptical, that you are making it more difficult to get alters involving unusual materials.

I read alter fodder as "this item's sole purpose is to be used as an alteration material", and not "only alter fodder can be used to supply rare materials", but hopefully a blue name weighs in

I don't want to go into too much detail as there's obviously still details to be worked out (which also means please do share your feedback) but the goal here is to make it less ambiguous what can and can't be used for alterations, not to drastically reduce the amount of things that can be used. That's part of why we want to get the wording on the flag etc. just right. This is a long plan process too.

I will say; reading over the item I found, the analyze contraindicates itself. The new messaging about fodder states it can’t be altered, but the original analyze messaging connected to the script says it can.

yeah, we need to dial that one in. the message first came about for say, bolts of elesine, to say you can't alter the BOLT into anything else, but you would use it to alter another item. Now that it's being shifted so items themselves have it, it will need an update.

I'm curious whether the various feeders have independent odds or if there's a singular check for the feeder, that then has a secondary check to see which feeder. That may lean more into mechanics than anyone wants to reveal, but the curiosity is there. As the other feeders come on line I wonder if we'll see more "hits" or just more options when there is a hit. Turning the frequency up during the frenzy has been incredibly noticeable and fun. Since I've started logging/tracking box-finds, I was hitting about two a year. I've found three in a week. (Granted I've been significantly overhunting my typical outings because of the frenzy)

Side note: The player-facing alert is a fantastic and greatly appreciated addition. Getting a ding for a win is always fun.

Missing a button at the high collar, the robes hold the semblance of once having been grandly designed. Glossy embroidery decorates the faded broadcloth, the sheen as bright and new as the day it was first threaded into the cloth. Overlapping shield designs trail down the lapels, disappearing into a hemline that has seen the mark of countless pilgrimages throughout the lands. Though the lower edges are permanently stained with road dirt, the piece shows signs of having been lovingly cared for.

A short missive, etched within the inner sanctum of the piece, details a silent prayer.
There appears to be something written on it.
In the Common language, it reads:
In the darkest hour of my need,
I pray to you to grant me speed.
Should I stray or your faith mislead,
I pray that you will intercede.

>l in pot
There is a good bit left in the thick ogre snot potion.
>
Your disk arrives, following you dutifully.
>anal potion
You analyze the thick ogre snot potion and sense that the creator has provided the following information:
This thick ogre snot potion is intended to be a ritualistic potion of some sort. You can try to POUR, TURN, TILT, DRINK, and MEASURE it.

Some skilled merchants can alter this potion. It can have a long or a show description, though generally the visible description should match up in some way with its contents. Ideally, the noun is a container (since you are pouring out of it), though in some cases something more generic like "potion" will be acceptable. You should also be explicit with the merchant about what sort of liquid is contained within it. The liquid will always need to make sense within this phrasing: "a circular stain of <liquid descriptor> <liquid noun>" -- and it must be appropriate for pouring out and leaving a visible stain on the ground, such as "blood", "venom," and things of that nature. Note that the <liquid noun> must fit within 15 characters. The <liquid descriptor> can be longer but most merchants will not allow counts to go too far beyond 15. (Currently the liquid is: thick ogre snot.)

You get no sense of whether or not the potion may be further lightened.

Found a boxfound from the new feeder that's pretty cute. Looks like a custom gemcutter thing like they had at PremieFest last year or the year before. It's an articulated golden steel figurine garbed in colorful mithril-mesh robes. Tranquia slowly winds up her golden steel figurine several times and lets it go. The golden steel figurine winds up and begins chiseling away. Steam shoots out of its head and dust goes flying everywhere! The thick cloud suddenly clears to reveal a perfectly cut jewel in the golden steel figurine's little grasp.

I typically might kill 25 critters in a hunt, during thre frenzy I was eaily pulling 250-300/hunt, and I probably went on 5x the number of hunts I normally would. You remove a soft maedatha blanket woven with pale golden strands from in a weathered modwir coffer.

You analyze the maedatha blanket and sense that the creator has provided the following information:

Originally released at Foehn's Promise, the blanket is known as an Elven Blanket.
It has access to the following verbs: FOLD, HUG, PULL, REMOVE, SHAKE, WAVE, and WEAR.
It may be altered freely provided the noun remains blanket.

You get no sense of whether or not the blanket may be further lightened.```

I was sitting looking at it after finding it, wondering what in the world the use case for it was since it couldn't be worn. Figured it could be a help to a bard making luck items (which my character is), but how if you have to hold two things already? So tried placing it at feet, and it worked. Like was said somewhere above, pretty niche use, but I won't complain. And also nice for enchanting wizards I suppose, though they could just hold it generally 😀

Out of curiosity, is it just not possible for capped characters to find "normal" boxfounds with the legendary feeder's existence? I've found quite a few on four characters between 30ish-60ish in the last month, but not a one on my capped

slender cliff
#

As I understand it general loot or finding boxes doesn't really have anything to do with feeder finds (legendary or otherwise). Any creature you engage and search that you can learn from has a chance. Feeder boxes can come off any creature, including bandits and monsters that don't usually drop treasure like beasts. They are also not affected by loot cap or loot boosts. The most effective way to find them should be to over hunt in an area that has the highest frequency of kills that you can learn off of.

Well, when I've pulled 20 from four different characters in the last two weeks, I'd have expected at least one on the higher character. But bad luck strikes 😀

#

You guys answered my question though, in that capped characters have found them. So thanks

slender cliff
#

Yep. It's a low number, but frenzies are pretty noticeable if you're hunting high frequency. Between the past two frenzies I've found one feeder box. Last frenzy I found six, and this time so far I've found five. So the bump is definitely there.

Yeah, capped can. IT might be that you're searching more frequently on lower level characters, so they have more chances, maybe?

Found my first Feeder frenzy item: water-stained silk gem pouch - came w/ interesting gems

analyze my pouch

You can tell that the pouch is as light as it can get, but you might be able to have a talented merchant deepen its pockets for you.

You carefully inspect your silk gem pouch.
You estimate that a water-stained silk gem pouch can store a medium amount with enough space for any number of items.
You determine that you could wear the pouch, attaching it to your belt. The pouch appears to serve some purpose.
It looks like this item has been mainly crafted out of cloth, an extremely common material. This item is intended to be supplied for an alteration.

look in my pouch
In the silk gem pouch you see a radiant lush viridian star emerald, a honey-washed violet water sapphire, a cabochon of milky azure aquamarine, a rich cerulean mermaid's-tear sapphire, an ebon-cored ruddy almandine garnet and a prismatic rose gold fire agate.
