#[Official] Sylvankind

Aihan and I do hang around the encampment most of the time we are online, and we haven't caught anything yet. We had a brief trip away for a wedding, but otherwise we're usually there in the bivouac or the enclosure.
I was following along ok until I got to "there is no spoon (cart)" and then I got all confused.
Jaleshana was our raffle winner. The forehead gem is making its way to you via mail!
I missed this but think it's a cool thing to do. Hope to see more things like this for all the races
She's not on discord, but wanted to pass along her excitment. Also she's already bugged it.
You attempt to wear a teardrop of forest jade but, oddly, the gem does not stick to your forehead.
Forehead gems go into the temporary unique feature slot. Is she wearing something that is currently taking up that slot? If so, she needs to remove it and try again.
I am not sure but I will let her know. Thank you!
If she has any problems, please tell her she can get in touch with me.
This is probably it, since that's the message you get when trying to wear it while already modifying your unique line.
Congratulations to Jaleshana! I'm so glad that it went to someone who will appreciate it
On the fourteenth day, we give thanks for the ravens above,
and for those who serve as messengers, carrying tidings between kin.
Gift: a cord tied high on a branch.
On the fifteenth day, we give thanks for the branches bare of leaf,
and for the storytellers, who fill the long night with words.
Gift: a scroll with a tale or poem written upon it.
The Voice in the Glass: A Short Play in Three Acts
Cast of CharactersTiwlip: a young scholar, devout, but curious.
Hyldedd: a stern elder, defender of tradition.
Iefan: a thoughtful elder, open to change.
A voice: a resonant presence within a three-part mirror.
Assorted Sylvisterai: camp members, hunters, artisans.ACT I: The Whisper
Scene: The Council ring. A circular bit of tamped down grass, thicker around delicate rush seating. At center, a mirrored triptych and its canvas cover, which has been removed. Dawn light filters in.
Tiwlip kneels, polishing the mirror's frame.
TIWLIP: The silence here is deep as roots. No sound but breath, no song but wind.
Tiwlip continues polishing the mirror's frame. An errant finger glances against the face of the mirror itself. Tiwlip pauses, recoiling slightly.
Whispers build like the buzz of hornets.
TIWLIP: …What was that?
A voice speaks softly from within the mirror.
VOICE: Tiwlip.
Tiwlip looks started.
TIWLIP (whispering to the mirror): Who speaks?
VOICE: Your fear weighs you down. You need not hide it.
Tiwlip trembles.
The Voice whispers, loudly enough for the fact of the whisper to be known, but not loud enough for anyone besides Tiwlip to hear the words.
Tiwlip staggers back a step, her face ashen.
TIWLIP: Only I know that. Only I.
(Enter Hyldedd and Iefan.)
HYLDEDD: Postulant, why linger? And why is your countenance so grave?
Tiwlip looks between their faces.
TIWLIP: The mirror spoke. It knew me.
Iefan moves closer to Tiwlip, intrigued.
IEFAN: Spoke? How?
Hyldedd steps between them.
HYLDEDD: Mirrors do not speak. You dreamed it. If your body be so idle that your mind can wander at labor, we will find more tasks to keep you tired and dreamless.
Blackout.
Iiiiiinteresting! Hopefully we'll have a chance to find out about this in game!
👀
Yes, it was her nail polish!
@dull heron I hope she can get it sung to and see if there is a unique loresong with it like other forehead gems have.
If so could she share it?
Congrats, I completely forgot to enter that. 😄
@narrow ferry The cart and seller seem to have wandered off already?
Oh that is smart! I will mention it.
Hello! The jade is absolutely gorgeous, so I came to give my appreciation and share it. For it does indeed have a beautiful loresong.
A teardrop of forest jade
Look:
The teardrop of jade is polished to a glassy smoothness. Its surface is cool and flawless, shaped with perfect symmetry that tapers to a fine point. Within the deep green stone, fine threads of paler green curve like veins in a leaf, catching the light in soft, uneven glints. The jade's color deepens toward its center, giving the impression of depth, as though a drop of primeval forest shadow had been captured and hardened into stone. Its edges are subtly rounded, and its weight, though small, feels deliberate.
Loresong:
A young boy plays with his friends, gleefully slogging through the muck and mire of a small stream. Something glittering in the riverbank catches his eye, and he stops to look. To the great delight of his friends, he has found a small, clear sapphire. Soon, all the boys are covered head-to-toe in mud as they try to find their own buried treasure. Each boy returns with a handful of pebbles and brightly colored stones, but no more gems.
The moon rises, and the young boy sits on his bed, staring in rapt fixation as starlight glints off his sapphire. Suddenly, he pulls a small knife from a pile of string, rocks, and other typical boy fare and begins to chip away at the gemstone. He pauses, holding it up catch the starlight again and then gently carves away, humming beneath his breath. Soon, a tiny heart-cut clear sapphire lies in the palm of his hand.
Your vision quickly reappears as you sing to the jade. The boy is older now, almost a man, and before him are several gemstones, each meticulously carved. He holds a violet feystone in his hand, singing to it as he carves away every flaw and turns the simple gem into a breathtaking miniature rose. He sings as he polishes it, and the feystone rose grows brighter. A light blue aura surrounds it briefly before being absorbed into the gem.
The scene changes, and the boy stands in a shop, showing his feystone rose to a stooped old man. The man takes the rose and rubs it. He chortles happily as a light blue glow seeps into his skin. He hands the boy a few gold coins.
The vision fades as a very happy boy runs down the street to his home.
As you whisper your song to the jade, a new scene unfolds. Several years have gone by, and the boy is now a man. He sits in a small shop filled with carved gemstones, each shelf holding a sign explaining the properties the stones hold. He is deep in concentration over a star-cut ruby, pausing in his singing every so often to press it against his forehead and letting it fall into his open palm again.
He jerks up from his work as a bell jingles, and his shop door opens. A beautiful young woman walks in.
Flashes of time pass before your eyes as the young man courts the woman. You see a cottage with a garden of bright roses and tall lilac trees. A kiss, an altar, a ring. You see both working, her in metal and him in stone. And when he presses a peridot against her forehead one day, it stays, casting a cerulean light across her face. The woman cheers, and they kiss exuberantly. An overwhelming sense of happiness infuses each scene, and as your song's influence fades, the vision disappears.
You barely start to sing to the jade before a vision appears. The joy that permeated the previous scene is nowhere to be found here. The young man's countenance is haggard, his appearance disheveled. He looks the madman as he rants and raves in the garden. A raven lands nearby, and the man throws a diamond at it. The bright roses have all gone to dark shades, and even the lilac trees look denser, more foreboding. Yet, the garden is well-tended, and even as the man mutters and weeps to himself, you see him lovingly caring for each bush and tree.
He sleeps in a thicket of lilacs and washes himself in the pond, and you get the impression he never enters the cottage, perhaps never leaves the garden at all. As time passes, an older woman, his mother, brings him food, passing it over the garden walls and imploring him to come out. Time and again, he refuses.
The vision grows black, and as it disappears, you hear him whisper resolutely to the four winds, "I am keeper of the garden, for of the garden she is. And here, forever we are."
Wow! Thank you so much for sharing that! It is beautiful. Congrats! 💚
So that loresong (the stock loresong for 'newstyle' forehead gems) has other sides of the story in the briar flare weapon loresong and the special loresong released on 4 gems at EG years ago. I think they're all on the wiki :)
It's a tragic love story inspired by the song Crazy Man Michael by Fairport Convention
This actually really helps me understand my bow so much better now. I've been having a bit of issue trying to figure out how to ...reconcile the loresong and my character...and this opens it up a bit more for me really.
So thank you for explaining that!
Anything at the encampment today? I’ve missed a few days.
On the nineteenth day, we give thanks for the evergreens, steadfast and true,
and for faithful friends, who endure all seasons.
Gift: a sprig of evergreen bound with ribbon.
Today's offering is live.
(Sorry y'all, real life always comes first, and it really came at me the last week.)
On the wooden cart:
other (1): a small sign.
clothing (5): a pebbled leather ribbon, a thick leather ribbon, a rough leather ribbon, a punched leather ribbon, a stiff leather ribbon.
get ribbon
A sales clerk steps over to you and says, "A stiff leather ribbon will cost 500 silver to purchase."
In the Common language, it reads:
On the nineteenth day, we give thanks for the evergreens, steadfast and true,
and for faithful friends, who endure all seasons.
The ribbons all weave nicely.
Don't forget to grab your weaving ribbons from the glade while they're still there!
Anything new the last few days? I’ve had guests and life going on.
I haven't seen anything new when I've been in the encampment
Not that I'm aware of.
Can I just say how much I am enjoying my little sylvan alt. It was hard deciding on a weapon for him(Paladin of Imeara, knew I wanted shield) then I remembered khopesh is a noun and I like the imagery of a sickle sword for a nature paladin. Especially once I snag some phytomorphic items at DR.
ACT II: The Murmurs Multiply
Scene: Later. The council ring is crowded with sylvan kneeling before the mirror. Some weep, some smile, some tremble. Iefan watches and Hyldedd scowls.
SYLVAN 1: It told me when to hunt, and my bow has been busy!
SYLVAN 2: It told me the fate of my family and soothed my grief, like a mother’s hand. Like my mother's hand…
A third sylvan shakes uncontrollably. His face is stained with tears and their hands are weeping from burns and cracks in their skin.
SYLVAN 3 (shaking): It told me to burn my tools. My craft is ash. My death comes.
HYLDEDD (to the crowd): These are delusions! The goddess Imaera does not chatter like a gossip in glass.
VOICE (whispering to Tiwlip): I am no delusion.
IEFAN (to Hyldedd): And yet, their lives have been changed. How can we deny what unfolds before us? Does it matter if this is truth or delusion?
VOICE (slightly louder whispering to Tiwlip): I am no delusion.
TIWLIP (to the crowd): I heard it too. I believe someone in Yuriqen is trying to speak to us. This is no delusion.
The Voice (at full volume, rippling through the glader): I am no DELUSION. I AM…
The grass rustles. Gasps of anticipation are audible. Magical lights are tossed about like branches in strong winds.
Blackout.
Something has changed in the Camp...
On the twenty-fifth day, we give thanks for the leaf piles scattered deep,
and for tricksters, who teach us laughter.
Gift: a small carved toy.
Today's offering is live.
There is a lot more to this Triptych Mirror!!
Join us for the Ael'venar Gathering of Thankfulness Friday, Nov 28th at 10pm ET at the Sylvan Encampment to share your stories, songs and poems of gratitude as we honor the season and our kin. Bring refreshments and enjoy an evening of warmth, memory, and quiet celebration. Sylvisterai Camp, Glade - (35468 - 13048008).
Sgil will be around later today (between 9am Eastern and noon Eastern) to play.*
*Play includes altering any toys or stuffed animals. She's a child.
(It's going to be more on the noon side than the 9am side. I will message in-game 10 minutes before she shows up.)
Is that the message I just got when logging in?
Don't forget the Sylvan Gathering of Thankfulness this evening at 10pm ET at the encampment. Hope to see some new sylvan kin there.
Thank you to all those who came out this evening. Was lovely, and we chatted about the Triptych Mirror a bit too.
Because I missed more days than I'd expected, I'm going to just keep going with this daily until I run through everything I had planned. 😉 How's that sound to everyone?
(The storyline stuff was already intended to be ongoing. This will only impact the various carts and merchants.)
Have you updated for today?
Or will you keep letting us know when there are new offerings?
I haven't updated for today. The updates/new offerings will start tomorrow (Tuesday). Today I have to do a LOT of QC!
I'd love to see what else you still have for us!
I've missed most of the last week, have there been any new updates/offerings?
Nothing I've seen
If there's anything live going on, it could be happening while I'm at work though.
I havent had time to et over to the encampment so I am not sure either
So we Sylvan fall under the Human lable for the Racia Ferronier? This is the Racial Ferroniere that was first released in 5108 as part of the cultural and racial carts that wandered Mist Harbor. It can only ever be altered into the following:
Aemikvai - Giant - The stone is always carved with a Saramar rune, and the setting is intricate knotwork.
Basrenne - Forest Gnome - Chain of woven or linked reeds which can be dyed. Gem is in its mostly natural state.
Elothrai - Erithi - Always uses an agate or an agita for the gem.
Ferrigem - Burghal Gnome - Chain uses bits and pieces of different metals, gem is in slivers or a shard, and a tiny gear or gadget is worked in somewhere.
Geldaralad - Elves - Requires a twisted vaalin chain.
Khazurka - Dwarf - Mithril chain, cut gem, often very detailed.
Seer-stone - Human - Oval-cut stone turned lengthwise to resemble a third eye.
Trinette - Halfling - Tri-stranded chain, trilliant-cut gem, and an elaborate setting.
Somehere is says Sylvans use the Seer-Stone
I need to find that again...
The ferroniere document I wrote doesn't reference that at all. Sylvans did not have a specific variation. I believe the guru at the time felt it was not something they wanted for the race, which is why I didn't do a sylvan variation. However, that was a long time ago, and I am not sure if it was that or just that I didn't come up with a good enough idea to use :)
In general, it says that all races other than aelotoi and half-krolvin have some version of a ferroniere....but that doesn't imply that sylvans have a seer-stone, but more that they may have something they just call ferroniere.
ahh..no worries...it sort of doesn't fit the earthy sylvans, I get that...but there are some who I would think in Yuriqen maybe that might? I don't know...I was thinking of the forehead gems really...and trying to bring the forest emeralds into it somehow....meh..I dont know
All that said, in the years after that document, someone else could have released something or said something in-game officially about sylvan ferronieres, but I think we probably would have updated that ferroniere document?
Itzel will probably know!
I would imagine sylvans may lean more towards a basrenne-like one if anything, for their racial/culturally-specific one, woven reeds/plants + gemstone in a natural state. That's just my ramblings though and not official <g>
There's no official 'sylvan' version of the ferroniere, as Xynwen said. I looked at adding a specific ferroniere for sylvans a few months ago and decided to treat their lack of direct reference in the document as as an intentional choice and not an omission to be rectified.
... so, about that aelotoi not having a version...
We can def have an aelotoi version now that developed after they came to Elanthia :)
I'm currently on a kick of Sylvans making use of wire weaving for jewelry and other embellishments. That might be interesting to work into a ferroniere.
As far as I know, though, forehead gems are not particularly linked to Sylvans. The first group released in game had a loresong tied to Chesylcha. After that, there's a stock loresong about a jeweler who doesn't seem to be a Sylvan making them. They can take a custom loresong, which I was planning on putting on mine if I can get my hands on one.
Haven't been able to log in for the past few days. Have I missed anything?
I haven’t been around a lot lately and I missed the Open House stuff. Any word on our Sylvan storyline for this year?
I'm back from a last minute trip to the States. It was the first time I've seen my family in over a year, so everything in my life basically stopped on a dime very suddenly. I did not have any game access while I was away, sorry! I am waiting for one script to clear code QC, and will be ready to go with storyline.
Do you still have plans on finishing The Forest Provides?
Will you be releasing the poems from the May poetry contest any time soon?
Hope your travels were pleasant. Looking forward to picking up the storyline again.
Just checking in to see if there was any movement on finishing up "The Forest Provides" or the storyline?
Yep!
Also, we'll have a Sylvan Gathering next week Friday evening. I need to get it on the Towncrier calendar.
#merchant-announcements message
(Not Very) Important Guru Announcement: I am no longer on the unofficial sylvan discord, which means I am not seeing your discussions and suggestions there. Not even as a lurker. Please make sure that anything you want in front of my eyes goes here, or to my official play.net email. Thanks y'all!
Hi @narrow ferry Can you clarify the Sylvan Shenanigan's event on the Calendar it notes 6-7pm ET but in the Discord Announcement it says 10 - 11pm ET
Just wondering which it is. Thanks!
It's 10pm to 11pm Eastern. (We had some fun going on there with calendars trying to autoconvert times in different time zones...)
I figured. Excellent! Looking forward to this!
See you all tonight at 10pm ET for Sylvan Shenanigans at the Encampment!!
Y'all are like herding cats. I love you. ❤️
I'll put up a more complete write-up tomorrow, when I've slept. (It's just past 3 am here now.) For those who are already looking for the tree, I will tell you that it is in game, so you're not searching for something in vain.
Unrelated issue: To make something work earlier, I had to roll in a back-up copy of the sylvan camp. This means if you find a missing QOL fix, (like the barricade reverted back accidentally to sylvankind only), please let me know!
okay so the tree is here: [Gyldemar Green, Forest - 4825 - 4825] (u13028040)
An old fire pit at the base of several rocks provides evidence that others have passed this way before. A modwir leans against the trunk of an old oak, lightning scars visible on its scorched trunk.
look mod
A modwir stands with its trunk charred to a deep, matte black. The bark is cracked in long, thin lines that reveal lighter wood beneath, making the surface look fractured but still solid. Some branches are missing entirely, completely burned away, while others remain as bare, skeletal shapes. Ash clings to the lower sections of the tree, creating uneven gray patches against the darker trunk. A vaporous shifting fissure is affixed to the trunk of the tree.
look fiss
Fitted into the face of the fissure are 2 niches arranged around a compass rose. They are:
The small niche positioned at the end of the north arm is empty.
The small niche positioned at the end of the northeast arm is empty.
A sliver of gleaming modwir occupies the center and is positioned to point at the north arm of the compass rose.
we need to put something in these niches...we have been trying gems
to no avail
we hear a whisper ....to find the seven
we assume this is meant to be the The Seven Modwirs
and the position of them on the compass
Meril believes these to be the position of the Seven Modwirs: North - Yr'Thrumh. Northeast - Yr'Tael. East - Yr'Nyx. Southeast - Yr'Vara. South - Yr'Shryv. West - Yr'Mez. Northwest - Yr'Weth.
I hava poem that has them slightly different for some reason
so its a puzzle...hopefully we are on the right track
Storyline note: Something appears to have changed with the mirror and its reflection of the future...
The new future message is:
A modwir stands with its trunk charred to a deep, matte black. A vaporous shifting fissure is affixed to the trunk of the tree. The reflection of the fissure, if that's what it is, blinks rapidly between different small changes in appearance, its modwir dial moving and its niches filling and unfilling. Occasionally a silver-eyed sylvan woman flickers in and out of view.
**Storyline note: **New visions began appearing to sylvankind across Elanthia today.
**GM note: **Unfortunately all sylvankind in Elanthia were afk.
I saw the notifications but didnt advise for me to go somewhere or research slmething. Just said 7 ladies
So for me i would enjoy participating but i have no idea what i need to do
Any chance you can post the vision?
Let me check logs. I save story now
Its on my other computer one moment
I checked. Dont have it when it occurred. Vision was involving seven ladies
Thanks for checking.
Seven ladies…🤔
I have been away the last couple days. The last time we tried solving the puzzle we were thinking that "find the seven" meant it was related to the seven trees of Yuriqen and their symbols. But the trees were never known as the seven ladies, so maybe this new vision is hinting at some other connection.
I have been away as well. No idea off the top who the seven ladies would be. Perhaps something is there on the wiki
There are a lot of names in this document as well. https://gswiki.play.net/The_Last_Days_of_Yuriqen
I’m under the weather right now or I’d be out trying to figure that tree out! Lol
There are also seven named hierarchs in the Roll of the Lost although I am not sure what it would mean to "find" them.
I was thinking about that as well
I'm not well versed enough with the newer Sylvan lore to figure out who the "Occasionally a silver-eyed sylvan woman flickers in and out of view." woman is.
@narrow ferry I am just getting back to the game and I am at the tree but the text is missing whatever is 'affixed' to the trunk.

it's a Choose Your Own Affixation Adventure!
Thank you. Any chance you can resend that vison? 👀
i don't think i received a vision, or if i did, it got buried in the screed of Core Tap...
does anyone have the current vision? curious if i missed it
nothing about "seven" or "silver-eyed" in my logs for today
It was sent out really early in the morning eastern...most of us missed it
thanks
I am still trying to find someone who might have a log of it if possible
I think this might be important though I could be on the wrong track: https://gswiki.play.net/The_Last_Days_of_Yuriqen
Went through all my logs from 03/21 - 03/23. No mention of seven ladies for me either.
We tried water associated gems from the sylvan gemology guide thinking they might help as the tree seems to be burning, no dice.
approx 1330 EST 23 MAR
"For just a moment, your vision is taken from you. Instead, you see a flash of green and gold light. A whisper in your mind entreats you, "...find the seven..." As quickly as it happened, it is over, and your vision clears."
few minutes later
For just a moment, your vision is taken from you. Instead, you see a flash of green and gold light. A whisper in your mind entreats you, "...find the seven...find the seven ladies..." As quickly as it happened, it is over, and your vision clears.
Thank you!
yep
So, wasn’t sure this was going to happen (for a variety of reasons), but this is my ‘view from the office’ today. Shenanigans will resume after RW.
Yep.
This is me being jealous
That is so awesome! Have fun 'working' and look forward to Shenanigans after RW.
Just checking in to see if there's been any progress on Sylvan Shenanigans!
