Yeah, there's a couple of those scattered around. You can gold ring (or chalk) into the huntress shrine at least, so you only need to do the puzzle once.
If I hadn't set myself the silly task of getting each legendary and uncommon on 10 characters, I'm sure I'd be closer to done now

I looked on the test server a LOT
I have a thing that wanders and checks all the rooms inside a boundary and does 20 senses... I left it going for a long long time all around the coastal cliffs.
Yeah, not being able to confirm the possible beasts in a room is definitely the most frustrating part of finding the missing ones. π
All this talk made me log in the monk an extra time, finally catch a perfect, then move on to the next location and catch a perfect on the first try. π
Are all of the spirit beasts like spirits of old storylines?
More-or-less. A lot of them are just vague lore references or interesting locations or landmarks.
But we found probably half of the legendary ones by digging through the wiki and people's memories.
Like the drowned lovers' story is on the wiki, and we dug up the Navigators obelisk. And we dug around in logs to get a couple of the Solhaven ones.
The Nascent Duskborn, for instance. I went through the logs of that event and checked the most relevant rooms.
And the Hanged Man, I just sprinted out to that immediately. π
I would love to know which storyline the Questionable Warcat comes from. It must have been the best event in the history of the game.
I believe it's Andelas' shrine guardian. π
After altering one for someone, the Questionable Warcat is lowkey my favorite.

Sureit shouldn't be there at all. He (or another trainer) pops out and tries to challenge both of us, regardless of whether one of us issues a challenge. Then they both fail and everybody gets thrown out.
We didn't try it with a blood match, but I assume something similar happens.
Yeah, I'm not sure how/when that changed, but I can fix it.

Looking over their choices for beasts, I got to say they have a lot of cool ones. Plenty of ideas for new spirit beasts on our side. I like the cockatrice, scarab, Blackfire lion, golem, Treasure goblin, zombie chicken and most of all, the Electric kitten.

Once you get the hang of it, its easy...except for the ones that really are impossible to beat

There shouldn't be any that are really impossible to beat!
None have been impossible to beat. Some are easier than others for some... And some are easier to win with than others.
So far the best one I've had is Frostwyrm with a ~62% win rate across all fights.
Some are just "I'll get lucky eventually"
Though if I wasnt so stubborn and just living and dying by panda, I could be like "I know just the beast to counter it," but instead I'm like "get back in there panda!"
I've been doing quite a bit and from what I can tell even in a positive matchup RNG can be like "oh look 10 evades in a row!" and decide it.

yeah, I mean, there's some things I know I'm in a good place for, but some things can go on a real streak, especially anything that drives my panda to insanity π But eventually the RNG comes around

- In a room we don't know about.
- In a you sensed but missed.
Could be in a room that requires a pass - I don't have a pass.
That would be kinda unfair so I don't think that is the case. It also sounds like it is available right now and we don't need to wait for a new room to open.
From the sounds of it, the pumpkin is a new legendary.

I'm curious if you found the right room but missed the pumpkin.
I have a decent script for searching. After I'm "done" fishing, I'll probably set my guys to search for a night or two. 20 senses in every room between 8083001 and 8083365 - x4
The most obvious place to put the spirit of a pumpkin is the pumpkin carving room. I did probably 100 senses there, and nothing. Next would be the scarecrow room, nothing.
Shouldn't take more than 24 hours to do 20 senses in all 212 rooms. And a total of 80 senses per room.
If I randomize the rooms my guys go to, and let them re-do rooms that were already done, it shouldn't take long at all.
Statistically should be like what 8ish hours
I'm setting it up now. I'm curious, and it should only take me 6ish hours max
I will find this elusive pumpkin today, dangit
At very least, we'll have a big list of rooms where it isn't
I divided up the 212 rooms, so they're all done in order, but my guys stagger the starting room. So they'll each do 53 unique rooms 20x, then re-do the next 53 rooms, etc etc until each room has been done 80 times or it's been found.
If I don't find it, I'd guess that either...
- It can only be captured at night
- It is "the great pumpkin" and can only be captured in the most sincere pumpkin patch ON october 31st?
- Can only be captured by people who have completed the guidebook and carved a pumpkin?
- Can only be captured by people dressed in a pumpkin costume
If there is a pumpkin costume, I will wear it
I wish beast sense was more reliable. I hate second guessing every room I sense.

Cause I'm thinking up about 20 nifty options for locations/timing/puns etc in capturing a pumpkin legendary spirit beast
- At night
- In any room with a jack-o-lantern in it
- At night on October 31st only if you're holding a blanket
- After carving your own pumpkin
- Holding your carved pumpkin
I can go all day

The initial record looked amazing, but now I think it'll average out at around 55-60% win rate... but I like the pumpkin, so I gave it all the bells & whistles.

I've never considered altering a Spirit Beast before. What are the alteration guidelines for them?

So you can type BEAST HELP ALTERATIONS for that information.... however, it's not quite as simple as noted there. I only ever offer cosmetic alterations to spirit beasts.
They require a bit of care because of how important the beast types are to Spirit Beasting, but yeah.
Having read the guidelines, I can say that I now want a dingo that belches sprinkles.
This has been updated with rules and my plat schedule. Prime is TBD.
I usually die on my Shattered Locksmith once every 2-3 months.
I've been trying to catch 10 Perfects of each of the Rift beasts... I'm certainly having more deaths - up to like 1 every 1-2 days now. A beast-catcher's life can be dangerous

Updated the SpiritBeast script on the repo a bit.
- Updated the beast list with recent changes - Added some common beast locations
- Fixed some logic
- Added a 'redeem' option that might not work for anybody but me, now that I think about it...
- Made it so you can technically capture common beasts if you really wanted to
- It now writes your beast inventory to a flat file on the Logs folder with each capture or reset

The leaderboard lockbox exp bonuses won't stack, to the best of my knowledge. But otherwise you can have a ton of stuff in the sack.
And as far as I know, they'll stay in the goblin's queue forever. @lean apex had like nine lockboxes when I reminded her to check.

I have a question that I hope someone can answer. Are you suppose to lose a listed battle entry when you time out of the arena and do not hit beast accept or beast decline? Because I have been unable to locate anything that says otherwise and there is no messaging when leaving the arena saying that it does but it sure did.
Yeah, you are charged for your listed battle when you walk into the arena.
It's so that people can't abuse logging out in the middle of a battle they are losing to pump up their listed stats.
Makes sense of course but there was no battle. It was prior to. but will keep that in mind going forward. Seems a bit odd to lose an attempt because you didnt accept battle in time.
Trying to get all Legendary and Uncommons to level 20... Of the ones currently available to get, I only need to capture the HW guys and Scaled Shaper. And I only have 3 of the others not at 20... It's been a long road.
So... do the new areas have new spirit beasts?

Determines what kind of Spirit Beasts you fight for training and weekly fights. Lower level is "easier" beasts.

I really should be doing the weekly challenge and lists... I'm the only one in Shattered doing SBs. I win every week. But I just can't do it for some reason.
Weekly challenge is a bit of a chore for me because they take awhile even if you win every battle immediately. So I usually have to break up the fights over a few days. Sounds like you get free rewards weekly from listed fights in Shattered.
It seems I've broken "Redeem" in shattered. It's been a couple weeks since I redeemed, and now I can't on any of my guys.
The verb just gets no response at all.
I do a lot of battles. I just kinda have them do a training whenever they're all saturated & resting. Trying to get all the uncommon & legednary beasts to level 20 on all my guys - because... ... uh... I wanna...
Usually I let it build up for a week and redeem. But I think I forgot to do it Friday. Maybe a couple Fridays, actually.
I guess I assumed it would clear out weekly or so, and I don't really need any more ampules or gear.
But I presume it's systemic because Locksmith also does battles, but far far less frequently (he's already got everything up to 20 - I was just curious how high I could push his arena level). And he's also getting the same issue.

So, I've got a couple bezoars and see they're alchemy ingredients utilized by the spirit beast system in some fashion but can't even find a recipe for whatever they're used to make. Are these something people into spirit beasts actually seek out, or should I just pull them from my shop and sell them to the alchemist?
As far as I know, the bezoars aren't used for anything yet.

IIRC, the Black Buccaneer was a Waters quest reward for a while, but isn't so is impossible.
I do think I'm going to start adding some new beast equipment.
Some low-hanging fruit would be equipment that starts your beast off with some buffs, like sprint shoes giving you haste to start off.
Ya... Find a legendary you like, cap until you get a perfect... Then use the ampoules on it to buff it a bit, and find and keep a good item on it.
It may not feel like a lot, but trust me you can get a TON of ampoules and stuff from training

I hung out in Melgorehns Tower for hours until I caught a perfect moon serpent. I was fortunate that the night before I randomly won one of those 10 capacity books from an arena fight
I tend to favor some beasts over others for my weeklies.
You can get ampoules that increase one beats's stat by 1
you can get a black ampoule that lets you reset the stats of a beast so you can re-ampoule it
You can get low, medium and high level items
You can get enchiladas?... en... something... books that let you store 20 beasts in them
..and then that moon sperent lost its first fight and I haven't fought since <.<
You can get the soul ... stones? crystals? that let you go get to the Exceptional quality
Bestial soulstones.
since you're here.. one thing I wanted to ask.. are there many beasts, legendaries in particular, that haven't been discovered yet? (ie, not listed on the wiki)
IIRC, new beasts are added to the training opponents
so they'd be known about pretty quickly.

K so here's my plan distilled from all your helpful advice, anything I'm missing?:
Find legendary I want
Capture perfect version
Train in Arena
Get a nice piece of gear from Arena rewards
Get ampoules to buff it, +1 stats
Enchiridion to transfer
Bestial soulstone -> upgrade to exceptional quality
Enchiridion for storage
For example, I'd go to each one in an area and slowly catch them all until I had a perfect of each one... Then I'd throw them into the enchilada, and do it again... Then I'd give the enchilada to my other characters to let them have them.
You can trade beasts among your characters.
You mean you'd like to access your beast pool from all characters on your account?

I just make sure to only use high loyalty ones when doing challenges & list battles. And keep an eye on them as I go.

I've found most beasts get a 50/50 win rate
There's some strategy to be sure. But I'd guess it's designed to hover around 50% even with the best strats
Though IIRC, Pale Woman is particularly poor... In that spreadsheet from earlier, there's a list of all my battles and the win/loss rate for each beast and who they each fought against
But whther they win or lose, they get xp by training... so it doesn't matter much
TBH my script was made more to make fast battles than a lot of wins.

It swaps to your 'worst' beast in between battles in case you accidentally release the wrong one when capturing

I did that a few times, got mad, and added the 'Locksmith is dumb' behavior
That's also why the script is SUPER DUPER careful with its beast select function. It makes absolutely certain it successfully selected a beast.
It always puts your current beast back to your lowest level, lowest quality beast when done with anything.

Our current reporting round for Spirit Beasts has tracked 20,783 fights.
I think I'm going to only track player performance from here on out, though, so I can get a better idea of top beasts.
Phoenix Hatchling, Vengeful Archer, Hanged Man, Master Arcanist, River Rat, Brawny Disir, Fledgling Kraken, Tortured Paladin, and Votive Eater are all pretty strong.
Archer looked pretty good - Trouble is catching em

I had to write it weirdly because it's not like a normal hunting where you're only waiting for cast RT or Roundtime between commands.
This only needs to make a command between actions, and there's nothing preventing you from making commands between actions.

That part is saying, "if your current command is 'attack' and your next command is not 'none', then make the 'next' command, and set your 'next' command to 'none' and your 'command' to the command you requested (so this won't trigger anymore)

I think that error up there is that there's nothing that tracks that line

Challenge opponents are all level 20, but rounds 5-7 are tougher than normal and winning grants bonus xp, so I usually start trying the weekly challenge on a new beast around level 16.
Soulstones set quality to a flat Exceptional.
Merchant bonus is totally separate and compatible with everything, but hasn't been offered in a couple years.
Amps are limited to a total of +20 with no more than +10 in any single stat, so +10 SPD/+10 POW or +4 to everything or whatever mix you want.

Fledgling Kraken and uh... one other, I think, have the store+dump specials. Burst damage is good.
POW is currently the strongest stat, DEF is the weakest. Speed is always good. I like to emphasize strengths rather than try to shore up weaknesses. I generally try to avoid elements, since there's no switching mid-match.
Lash x 6 + special + special is a time-tested strategy up to about arena rank 5. π
The Rebirth status (Phoenix Hatchling) / troll's tenacity (armaments) is the 'strongest' ability, especially while you're learning, since it'll turn a close loss into a potential win.
It's very useful. It costs a bunch of stat points, but it's almost always worth it.
Just with the caveat that it's not doing anything in most matches.

Elemental matchups are kind of bad news, but I keep a set of swappy rings for the weekly challenge, since you can tell which beasts you'll be up against.

But yeah, do your weekly challenge matches, do some listed matches, try and get those lockboxes. I mostly use soulstones on beasts that are really hard to catch perfects or that are sold at events (since they all start at crummy).
You can sell armaments back, but I don't think the goblin wants anything else.

It can be tough to find good armaments. You only get like 50-100 back from the goblin, so if you have to buy 10 to find one you want...
Level 16 with a good beast can definitely beat the first four rounds of the weekly challenge.
Unless there's a lobster. Lobster in the weekly challenge routinely knocks people out. π
I mean, they take inventory space when they're not equipped on a beast, but since they're random it might take several attempts to find one you like. Especially if you're hunting for troll's tenacity or something.
Having an armament equipped will also prevent you from accidentally releasing a beast, so I just stick spares on everybody.
It's more-or-less a coin flip. I assume it's influenced by Speed and to a tiny degree Luck.
Probably the level difference. Even a relatively fast beast like Starseer's going to be a lot lower Speed with a 4 level gap.
The weekly challenge matches are each a little harder, so I wouldn't necessarily expect to finish all 7 with a non-optimized beast.
Once you've got one beast that can finish all seven though, you can do the first couple rounds with a trainee and then finish it off with a level 20 to get your lockbox each week.

Commons are more-or-less realm-wide and are something like 1/3 chance of sensing.
Uncommons are limited to specific areas (which can be as small as one room, see ||Mammoth Arachnid|| and ||Mournful Nymph||) or LOCATION-wide, and are 1/10-ish.
Legendaries are all (to the best of my knowledge) one-room-only and 1/20-ish. Checking a room 20 times isn't even a guarantee that there isn't a legendary there.
So a legendary's room can also have commons and uncommons, but doesn't have to. One of the easiest ways to find a legendary room is to find a spot that gives you the "there are beasts here but you don't sense any" failure message instead of the "too civilized" or "void" failures. ||Featherdancer|| and ||Frostwyrm|| were found that way.

Are there any rare beasts at EG?
Yes!
they are on the spirit beasts stats page (unless there are new ones this year, i haven't looked yet)
Spirit Beast armaments have been updated to add a few new abilities:
- Frailty, which was a negative ability conveyed by armaments that made damage against your beast more severe, has been replaced by a new positive ability, Guardian Spirit
- Guardian Spirit: protects against one standard debuff inflicted by an opponent's special ability
- Heartward: absorb the first successful attack and convert it into a special ability charge
- Tactician: start the battle with one additional action point
- Swift Shoes: start the battle with Haste
- Steel Soul: start the battle with Fortify
- Severing Strike: once per battle, if your opponent has a buff, a successful attack from your beast will dispel that buff
Additionally, there was some hidden math around defense for higher-defense Spirit Beasts that has been corrected.
There are also two new Spirit Beasts, one for EG and one for SimuCon 2024.

The special attack is hard coded. That cannot be changed when the spirit beast is altered
Are bestial soulstones craftable from alchemy... maybe using bezoars? I have a vague memory of this, and gswiki vaguely associates bezoars with spirit beasts, but details are not on wiki
Bestial soulstones are not craftable. Bezoars were intended to be for use in alchemy but as far as I know nothing ever came of that.
I have a strong yearning to update alchemy and crafting in general.

you can try to heal through madness, but it doesn't always succeed.

Though perhaps a little underweight, it's hard to argue that the goat is underdressed for any occasion. In fact, the creature's ruffled lace tunic and crushed velvet doublet might be a bit constricting for activities such as mountain frolicks or casual grazing. The outfit is only slightly diminished by the goat's decided lack of trousers and shoes, though the latter seems excusable given obvious difficulties in finding footwear to match such fine hooves.

Asmoda's well-dressed goat unleashes its special ability! Prancing forward with a decidedly jaunty cant to its head, the well-dressed goat taps the ground twice with a hoof before throwing back its head and bleating out a deafening tune! What sort of rewards would you guys like to see from Spirit Beasts? Not necessarily as part of the Spirit Beasts system.
Marks Shop:
- You could take a note from Reim and add scripted gear that can be unlocked with waivers as a money sink. Make it the Animalist Spirit script if you REALLY want to boost people doing Spirit Beast content!
- You also might just want to add Spirit Beast themed containers, food, imbeds the way Pennant Chase does with their rewards.
- Make a limited use device that detects ALL the spirit beasts in a room and gives a bonus to their quality if you capture one. You know how I hate the randomness of BEAST SENSE.
- A consumable ampole that will increase a spirit beast's quality up to Perfect. This is mainly to not punish players for getting less than the best rarity when capturing a a spirit beast.
- Unique spirit beasts that can only be bought from the shop.
Weekly/Listed Lockboxes:
- A small amount of event currency for on-going events. For example, this month we would get soul shards for EG.
- Weapon/Armor/etc in the lockbox should be automatically bard unlocked and allow RECALL in the same way DR rewards are.
- Add a consumable magic item from the treasure system as a reward. So small statues, crystals, prisms, 1750 lens should all be possible rewards. Probably should be uncommon or better due to the limited amount of lockboxes that can be earned.
- I am fine with the gems as they are. In fact, it is easier to get rare Reim gems from Spirit Beast lockboxes instead of Reim itself!
Other:
- I still want titles for Spirit Beast content!
- You could add reoccurring group content events. It could be a PvP tournament or something like a Pokemon Raid Battle where multiple people fight the same monster to gradually weaken it earn rewards for contributing.
There are two new Spirit Beasts now live (or active, at least!) at this year's Ebon Gate.
Along with some new abilities, including the Webbed debuff.

Oogey was removing some lesser monsters from his spirit beast talisman when he accidentally expelled his prized possession A mire troll (The only spirit beast troll there is) and to make it worse it was found only on Calligos Island from the earlier EG. I there any way to retrieve it or is there anyone that had captured the troll from that festival and willing to part with it . I would compensate you well.

might anyone have suggestions on what stats to improve for it? i'm thinking power + accuracy, since once its ultimate hits, it already has speed from berserk?

Suggestion for a service, perming armaments? Part of the reason I havenβt looked more closely is because they all feel so temporary that even if I find a great one, I know itβs eventually going to break.

trolls tenacity is the best! i also really like the one that removes a special status effect from an opponent--super useful against the ones that self raise.

I don't really want to permify armaments. They last an arbitrarily long time already.
We do need more things to spend redsteel on.

what if you could spend marks to build a custom armament, or reroll one, or something along those lines?

This upcoming weekend, on the 8th of Eoantos (11/8) at 6pm, House of the Argent Aspis will be holding a Spirit Beast gathering on the house grounds in the Landing. Come battle other players in a mini-tournament, trade tips, or just to show off your spirits! (And if for some reason you missed the Ebon Gate legendary this year we will try to give out copies as well, as supplies allow.)

I gave up trying to do listed fights after seeing a few weeks of several people having almost 20 wins. I can barely reach 5. So some people must have found a reliable way to win.
what if some ampules gave loyalty?
@woeful knot for loyalty you need to buy a syringe and a vial from the shop in talondown, put the vial in the syringe, kill and draw blood from 5 living things. blood quality(how much loyalty is restored) is based on critter level. take the vial out of the syringe, beast offer vial. loyalty restored.
or buy them from my shop in icemule for 50k each restores loyalty to max.
just curious on thoughts... if i find a really OP spirit beast and do a bunch of listed fights on my account with it, should i then be able to, in the same week, transfer that beast to another account and dominate the leaderboards with all of my accounts with 1 spirit beast or should they attune to the character that fought with them in the listed/weekly fights until the arena resets?
is that what's happening on the leaderboards?
i think it makes sense that the beast should "attune" for the week after the first weekly or listed fight. it feels against the spirit (haha see what i did there) of the system to pass it around like that.
(if that is indeed what is happening. i should clarify that i also don't know if that is the case.)

I've also noticed it would be possible to lose match after match on purpose to lower the difficulty of the arena matches, if someone wanted to do that and game this system. I don't think that difficulty raising and lowering after so many wins/losses is a good function in the arena since it can be easily manipulated, and blood vials to increase loyalty after losing again and again to drop your arena difficulty level is a minimal silver loss.(Edit: It doesn't appear that you lose loyalty on lost training bouts, which also lowers your arena difficulty, so cost of blood vials isn't even a factor) If it is something that stays in, could it possibly give a bonus to listed fight points, since they are much harder at arena level 7 than arena level 1?

anyone know anything about the horses (pony, stallion, mare) in Shadow Valley? They're listed as common, but, I swear I checked every room and they're all "void" of spiritual activity. Only the strange hut had anything but it's just WL when you check the location and sensing only shows the commons for WL.

I found the wiki guide that's how I heard about them. I found a radiant bestial soulstone and I didn't know what it was for so I wiki'd it and that's when it brought me down the spirit beast rabbit hole.
10 minutes later I was rushing to the marks of the beasts to get my talisman

You can also alter your spirit beast, if you're so inclined. It is a specialty service, so keep an eye out for when it is scheduled.

You can find lots all over the place. There is also a list on the wiki that has most of the spirit beasts. Some are still unfound.
Ya it seems many of these are tough to get to until I'm higher level. I have to catch 10 Commons before I can even go for uncommon, and Ive pretty much got all the commons I can find right now without going into areas too high lvl for me. π«£
