RE: 712 - my only advice is one-shot them or don't stun/incapacitate while damaging them.
The caster must be stunned or otherwise incapacitated and taking damage from an attack for this effect to have the possibility of being triggered.
Use veil iron or kroderine
Elemental dispel I think removes it every time (I want to say it’s their only elemental spell so it gets preference)
Non garotte maneuvers don’t trigger cloak so bleed out with hamstring or evis, etc.
Or yeah, just one shot them
Hamstring and bearhug maybe
Spamming dispel magic will work but it might take awhile if they have a lot of spells. If you know dispels from different circles, you can overlap them and cause a damaging flare on the target. The flare IS strong enough to kill if you are lucky enough.
It is also worth noting that dispel magic doesn't have any checks involved. Cast it and it will take away a spell from the target, no fuss.
Nothing in HW wears a lot of spells, disciples included, so any weapon with dispel on it, or using Spell Cleave will stand a decent enough chance at grabbing Cloak
Yeah I actually did okay later using Spell Thieve and then garrote
can we please get a gigas creature type for bane purposes? they're obviously all the same species. it sucks having to use up quiver slots for each and every type of gigas
imo, the Essence Belt earth block ability should block the wyrm Bind

You make a vain attempt to dodge the cold wyrm, but the fullness of her weight crashes into you as she falls!
A jagged chunk of earth floating near you intercepts the attack!
An unseen force entangles you, restricting your movement!
What's the key to the acid cloud
Can u run from the message? Dosent seem to want to in bigshot
Voln Rogue
You have to Breeze (targeted) or Call Wind (untargeted)
As a rogue just Divert the thing away (even the Wyrm) and engage it in a different room. Or carry Call Wind imbeds for the scenarios where Divert isn't an option.
Or just kill the undansormr
So the environment message won't send you away in bigshot?
Sometimes he sneaks one thru
Yeah but the cloud doesn't start doing damage for a while after the undansormr rips one, so you have time to kill it
Guess I'll edit my stuffs...focus on them 1st, if it's not already
Wasn't even sure who cast it..so that helps for sure
Most cloud spells can be removed with dispel magics. Will that wrok on undansormr clouds?
No
I guess it is a "maneuver" cloud. Bah!
Undansormr clouds aren't magical in nature.
What are the best resistances to get for HW? Pits and Hanging Garden/Sanguine Grove areas
Disint is priority then disrupt and of course ranger anklet. Then its less common stuff like impact from cmans or acid fro. Wyrms and underarmors.
Thanks, so crush/puncture/slash isn’t as much of a priority?
Depends on class, as a wizard with high defense it doenst matter for me but if you are a warrior getting hit a ton then that would be first priority. Less of a HW Specific thing and more of a class priority
Does cold work on the weather and cyclones?
Thanks, maybe I should focus on puncture/crush then (warrior)
yes
As a warrior, you should be having your main armor specialization resist on all your gear probably at 20-30% and then you could always ascension 15-20% of the other two but that will take some time
Getting 15% ascension resist for BOTH puncture/crush is either 3,000,000 exp or 150K/150M in armor resist certs, you are screwed either way!
RTCF to avoid 720/435, but the info was sketch then It is highly resistant (30%) to impact attacks.
I have seen some whalewarriors with armors that have 40% slash/crush/puncture resist..... how do they ever die??
Disciples
I think I've seen that armor, with the triple +40s? Bonkers. That's so many certs
Just a cool 600mil no biggie 😝 (resist certs only)
It is kind of worth it to be honest if your alternative is just some rando armor script which isnt that strong. If you can negate 80% of your damage sources by that 40% its better than a script
Armor is attuned, so BS cost will be a little lower
yeah, if you plan to go higher like 20-25% then the pay path is better since the exp path will just balloon
Thanks, I'll probably just add 10-15% / event and see how that impacts my gameplay
Stupid rt locks, only way I die, a sudden surge of 6 wargs all stacking howls and plinking we to death. Especially when you still get wounds on very low damage hits
yeah wargs are arseholes.... just peck at you until you around 50% health then you know the Coup De Grace is right around the corner....
One or two is fine, I was in 6 seconds of RT and literally 6 ran in and howled my rt through the roof and slaughtered me
as a wizard in HW, I do acid/puncture/crush on my main armor, full ranger trinket, and warrior slash fittings on some bracers for l/r arm, l/r hand
I wonder how many warriors have enough armor skill to know 2 different fittings, if they did they could go like 25% slash on armor and up to 35% crush on head, arm, legs, neck (aventail), you would benefit from both types everywhere but chest/back..
It is very resistant (25%) to impact attacks.
It is very resistant (25%) to corrosive attacks.
It is very resistant (25%) to slashing attacks.
It is very resistant (25%) to crushing attacks.
It is very resistant (25%) to puncturing attacks.
It is very resistant (25%) to fiery attacks.
It is very resistant (25%) to frigid attacks.
It is very resistant (25%) to shocking attacks.
It is very resistant (25%) to scalding attacks.
It is very resistant (25%) to natural attacks.```
Gotta have all the resists.
I need to up my acid resist
Does the corporeality change for angargeists include when they're brought into the plane by kai's smite?
what about for white alloy
If you’re looking at angargeists, take a look at their sympathy move. The duration of the sympathy effect should probably be affected by a character’s survival skill, but it currently is not
they might have given disciples cloak of shadows, they might have given everyone under the sun confusion, but ... 25 points of damage! Solid strike caves the crimson angargeist's skull in, resulting in instant death! You hear a sound like a child weeping as a white glow separates itself from the crimson angargeist's body and rises into the heavens. a win is a win
(constructive feedback: it would be nice of dev to give players a heads up when say, someone fixes cloak of shadows on disciples, or fixes confusion on golems & skalds & whoever else has it, so we all don't feel g-slight when someone says that it "always" worked)
Golems have always had it they do haymaker if I remember.
Cloak just got fixed randomly though lol. Surprise!
Also, the berserkers have been using spell cleave a lot. Annoying.
It ought to, yes.
I may look into this further, but it looks like if we brought all the spell disabler review standards to that ability, the max duration with 300 ranks of survival would be slightly higher than the current max duration with any amount of survival.
Appreciate the reply. I’m not quite sure I follow though. The duration of the angargeist sympathy manuever is always a flat 20 seconds (regardless of survival ability) if the endroll is somewhere above 120 or 130 - I can’t recall the precise threshold.
If the endroll is between 101-120 or 130, the duration varies from a few seconds up to 20 seconds.
I guess the point is that if the baseline for a major success with endroll above 120/130 is 20 seconds, survival should impact that.
The sympathy duration from angargeists, at 20 seconds, is much longer than the duration I get from other critter sympathy attacks. Wendigos, for example, usually only sympathy me for maybe 5-10 seconds, and survival seems to be working correctly there.
Right. But the policy from the spell disabler review was also for spells to have a max duration on players of 30 seconds, with survival being able to take 30% off of that.
Also this is an innate ability rather than angargeists casting the actual empath spell 1120. When we released the spell disabler review, we stated that the new policies applied to spells, without committing to applying it to all creature abilities.
Thanks - that’s a very helpful explanation. It’s clear that it’s currently working as intended. That said, let me petition for survival to apply to the angargeist sympathy ability 🙂
The duration is just too long. If you hunt there a lot, you can tell that it just “feels” off. Having survival ranks reduce it would help a bit.
I’m sure others that hunt there regularly would agree with me.
Noted, and thanks for your feedback (genuinely)
Thanks for listening! Most of the critters in the HW are tuned quite well. That’s just one thing that stands out as being a bit off.
Sympathy should instantly drop the moment the casting creature attacks you
Creature sympathy. Because if you do that to 1120, it's an immediate nerf to a class that doesn't need any, lol.
Truuu
oh are you listening to beefs about sympathy? Because I've been whining crusading against the fact that the random RT it gives you extends beyond the length of the spell effect.
For example -- you could spell active and see Sympathy has say 2 seconds left.. and then you get random Sympathy RT for say six seconds -- so there are 4 seconds where you are RT locked even though Sympathy has "worn off". And if you get hit with another Sympathy in those 4 seconds (it happens), well then you're just sympathy-locked. Just feels extra cheap and petty after sitting there for 20 seconds.
So -- is there any way to prevent the random RT from Sympathy to extend beyond the actual spell effect?
I'm listening, but I'm also not making any indication of whether or not it'll lead to any changes.
Hmnm.. does anyone remember the last time they had to go out to the henge to get things for a forage bounty? Did these secretly all become village-only?
I hope so. Those were the worst.
I reported this awhile back in this channel and I bugged the alchemist about it 3 weeks ago. He hasn't been giving out any herb bounties beyond village specific findable herbs in months now.
Now some of the bounties are herbs you can find both in town and outside town, but none of the outside town only herb bounties have been genning from him that I or Missoni have seen.
It's also made it harder to get in town herbs when folk are foraging everything out in town as groups roll through all tasking on them, sometimes even using 604.
It is a catch 22. Definitely a bug
Hinterwilds doesnt having stuff casting bolts/ball spells does it? Might scrap spell parry on warrior because cannot remember any bolt casters.
Angargeists.
Of course these annoying ghosts would be the ones, glad its not more (guess more surprised its not more as bolt defense is usually lower and good way to nuke players)
One of the great advantages of using a big fat tower shield: never get hit by bolts.
An eyeless black valravn cocks its eyeless head.
Your injuries hinder your attempts to remain unseen.
An eyeless black valravn stares sightlessly into the shadows, revealing you in your hiding place!

my favorite thing EVER is that they can break a stun AND bind simulatenously, search me out, AND attack, in one action 😐
seriously it's the greatest, very well-designed creatures
It's almost like it's an ascension area built for groups.
it's almost like nothing should be able to just ignore a status condition like it isn't affected
unless there's like. some specific messaging that it's immune. don't show it as immoblized but it can attack anyway just cause.
Well, in this case it just happens to be a specific counter to the exact scenario you described. They have a special ability to break status conditions, and they have a special ability to search out hiders (common among undead, but seemingly supercharged with valravns)
If you want to talk about cheat creatures, let's talk about disciples.
i know it's frustrating, but their ability to break disablers and/or perform multiple actions is key to their difficulty and ability to play on par with us
I understand their perception being OP. I get that, it makes sense to me. what is unfair, is this:
Soaring by on inky wings, an eyeless black valravn rakes at you with its talons!
AS: +550 vs DS: +388 with AvD: +27 + d100 roll: +79 = +268
... and hits for 13 points of damage!
Minor puncture to the left leg.

You also an eyeless black valravn that appears immobilized.```
so, okay, it broke its stun and attacked. but it's STILL BOUND because it had BOTH a stun and a bind.
And sometimes they actually WILL fall to the ground crippled, messaging that reflects them being bound. but it's not consistent at all
if I'm in the open, they can always always attack despite being immobilized. if I'm hiding, it's a coin toss whether they "fall to the ground crippled" or they can search and attack

see?
Would you like it to become immune to subdue, because this is how it becomes immune to subdue.
part of me wants to say "At least I'd know what to expect"
the effects persisting beyond them "breaking" it works in our favor. if they completely shed the effects every time they shed an effect, they would be more difficult
soooo I shouldn't stir the pot like @pliant hatch
Valravn behave oddly with disables in general. 301 works on them, but they'll attack right through it, while still showing as Immobilized.
that's what I'm saying about them and subdue!
until someone says otherwise, i consider it intentional
ultimately players win the arms race, but asc creatures get to cheat a little as defense
I don't think it's intentional if a creature is acting all the time without shaking the condition that is supposed to prevent them from acting, they should just actually shake the immobilize if they're not immobilized
valravns are angels like the disir, they should probably just be immune to everything disirs are immune to
You can 301 disir too, lol. But they shake it and I think it actually is removed when they do. Not in Hinterwilds atm to confirm
they are breaking it, for one "action", then they lose their wits again 😁
there's enough stuff in the HW that's immune to disablers. can't do anything to disable the ooze, can't knock over the undkjlsldksafkjasf or whatever they're called...
Undansormr are worms so yeah you can't knock a worm over. Ooze are basically sl*me so it makes sense they can't be disabled.
I will freely admit I have no idea how rogues are supposed to kill valravn since they can see into your soul and turn into a cloud of death, seems rough
Mug
You mug them, do a specific rogue guild maneuver on them, then follow it up with a good ol waylay
mug em and thug em? dastardly
Mug is literally the answer to everything. Disciples? Mug. Angrygeists? Mug. Mutants? Mug. Guy looks at you funny on the street? Mug.
can't wait for the answer to everything to pop up in the mk list again 😁
mugging disciples without the appropriate prep = a very bad day for you
See... funny story.
I wait for them to emote, I mug, vanish and then 1 shot punch them to the facehole.
Of course, that's if the mug knocks them down. Otherwise, I add a sweep in there for good measure so I can face punch harder.
and you don't get cloak of shadowsededed into oblivion?
Don't miss
If you Mug into vanish, the likelihood is very low. But you gotta be fast.
how...the cloak of shadows thing is IMMEDIATE, on your attack
it literally travels up your weapon
OHOHOH... Well I was ranged and UAC, so that helped.

also why is slime censored....
Only way to survive as a ranged rogue. I am legit terrified of how bad life is about to become, I just switched to TWC.
ohhh I wanna do that too! but like, not a switch, just as an additional option
Once I finish spells I'm gonna add this back in. Because I really liked having a backup weapon option and UAC is so good.
I walk into the room and I count the yellow things then I berserk

Naaaaaaaaah.... Imma a big girl now with my big girl AS.
it's not even that different!
...is it?
I mean the difference between martial mastery and spells isn't big AS-wise, but when you look at the additional toolkit of things like 118, 120 and 435... it's arguably a big difference
isn't it way more points tho?
Oh definitely, I'm creeping up on 3x. and am 75 MnE and 10 MnS atm.
Having spells is supposed to be better it costs way more points, KS is free
Funnily enough. I spent the better part of this past year as Martial Mastery without KS. And weirdly enough, outside of deaths beyond my control, and just being plain stupid... I was OK.
I'm also Martial Mastery without KS for RP reasons and do alright
RT defeats all (and UCS, just punch em in the face and they crumble)
have you tried ranged on disciples recently?
I’ve mostly been hunting ME to stock up on favor and almost primarily use UCS on them. why?
the Cloak of Shadows retaliates on my archery shots now
Incant 530
Eww who uses that spell....
rogue archers are known for their skill with it
Incant 417 (it’s like their only elemental spell so you get it every time anyway)

dammit @pliant hatch
Not all heroes wear capes (because they're too long for dwarves)
Hah. Capes are cool.
I thought cloak of shadows was supposed to be melee only? The language implies that, and I'm sure that's been said in the past.
Cloak has always hit ranged. The only thing that changed was specifically disciples cloak was bugged and did nothing (to anyone. It would flare and cast no spell melee or otherwise). That got fixed.
Do I just suck as skinning or is HW on an OTF level?

It’ll improve a lot after sailor’s grief is released. Have hope!
Of course it won’t matter for me since I’ll migrate there once it is open
SG is going to be actually hard I don’t think many gemstone farming alts are moving out of HW lol
I'm sure it'll help a little, but yeah, getting Hinterwilds loot back to where it once was would involve like ten more Moonsedge type hunting grounds existing. Meaning something fairly easy and within range of major towns.
Edit: But as for Zhagen's question, you might also not be good enough at skinning and/or Trading and/or not hitting heads.
Bramblefist examines the mastodon trunk quickly and says, "I'd say it's worth about oh... I'll pay you 1,125 silvers for it."```
February 25, 2026 edit: In modern GS, you should neither skin creatures nor train Trading if you can reach loot cap without them. Both of those methods will get you to loot cap more quickly, which can be far more downside than upside.
To skin well you have to have at least 300 combined ranks of survival and first aid, and you have to not hit the area you are going to try to sell. What you get is also a combination of value and quality level. I save my good ones for bounties and sell the rest.
Someday...

not a huge fan of the huge hw groups. several of my alts can't handle the large swarms. even better when the huge group walks in and is all surprised, "oh my! you died! how'd that happen! do you need a hand? but hey i just happen to have an empath and cleric here who can save you!"
This is why they should never have made meteor swarm 100% player friendly..... imagine all the chaos, imagine all the fun
My biggest issue is the 10+ groups cause me to crash if they're all attacking. 🙁
There is also your pathing to consider, during normal times going into the henge or great hall areas is fine but sometimes they become 25+ critter death traps if they don't get cleaned out
Symbol of return is the only way to go back to town.
Is there an ability that makes gigas sometimes immune to lightning? I feel like I have only noticed this tonight, but who knows
what do you mean? They have always had a chance to reactively become immune to an element when hit by it. Something like, besides that? Wildire cancels that out so if you normally run it and just aren't now
In response to the crackling electricity, a tattooed gigas berserker's skin seems to discolor and harden, lending the berserker unnatural durability! Yeah I guess I never noticed this before heh -- I now have some always on blessing lore zaps, but honestly I probably killed things before it became an issue beforehand
yeah that's always been there. they can go immune to multiple so if you're a wizard and inexplicably not running wildfire oil they can go immune to everything besides tonis bolt (lol unbalance). Though obviously they usually just die before going immune to like 6 elements
Basically. But "giant" ™

Best bounties ever.
Trenchlings are a good bounty too but trenchlings are actually dangerous

Whether you are in a group or not is a choice, not a requirement. Rock on solo hunter, pick your battles.
Kaetel: Now, I'm not suggesting that everyone has to MA to be successful. But it has been indicated on several occasions by dev (Auchand specifically IIRC) that ascension hunting was built with the intention that it be group hunted
Auchand: That was the original intent (small group hunting.)

Intention != requirement.
I don't see where I used the word requirement anywhere. I see a guy complaining about groups in an area where the designer stated he intended the area to be small group hunting.
They've said that about every single post cap hunting area since the scatter. There is nothing outside of the boss fights that from a design perspective requires or even encourages groups in HW. It's just a cool hunting area.
I think that depends on your profession. But I agree it's the best hunting area.
You literally responded to Kerl, who was not complaining, who stated it was a choice to group. My bad for assuming you replied to the correct comment. 👍
You know what they say about assuming
I still like the feel of small group hunting, but if I had it all to do over again, I'd probably make Ascension for solos and small groups, then make it more difficult for large groups.
How do you define "large group"

I approve of this message.
Double it, and give it to the next person
Cap groups at 4!
MA cube is the most efficient setup...

You can share a bounty task within a group of 5. I agree that 5 is a good group limit.

He's on the back porch.
5 it is! This is the way 🍻
Easy solution is to offer an increase gemstone drop for solo hunters akin to the loot boon offered to group hunters
are you concerned they will just put a person in most rooms if they split the MA group
Add this to Yet Another Cheap Mechanic That Will Never Be Fixed:
So normally when a mob enters a room, that takes some amount of "RT," i.e. that mob will wait a few seconds before performing its next move. Critters riding on the back of mastodons have no such "RT," as the mastodon is doing the work. So they can come into a room and the immediately hit you with no warning. Very nice!
That actually seems logical, the question shouldn't be when are they going to nerf Gigas combat mounts but when are they going to give players combat mounts....
Come on over to Moonsedge.... Grotesques, Ghasts, Conjurers, Banshees and Dreadsteeds ALL have mechanics that can hit you before they even enter the room.
Come to think of it.... Auchand should probably buff the Knights and Vampires... they're feeling a little left out here

It feels not as punishing in Eldur/Ojand. It's kind of nice to have them slightly more beefy.
Spawn numbers feel okay, the biggest room so far has had 11. (Which is nice to come across!) Most have 1-3.
I didn't notice a huge difference in spawn rates in the Pits. Which I would expect to be better. But if they remain with the huge defensive boosts, I won't be going there as a group. I would probably start testing what it looks like if I cancelled a character to avoid the DS boosts which makes the creatures immune to some characters. (If they can't hit, no point in having them.)
I mainly use disablers for groups of enemies, not a single enemy that gets a bunch of extra TD/DS.
Oh, going with DS/TD scaling instead of resistance?
I reduced the padding on them in favor of small DS/TD boosts, but am not sold on the change.

I should have tested it before logging out, but I wonder if you can just disband group when you get the crazy high DS/TD and then fight and then regroup and move on.
tl;dr: Bring back padding/resistance, but I have a suggestion for tweaks to it after explaining why DS/TD buffs won't work.
Give me a sec so people don't have to download a text file...
You gotta break that up girlfriend
It looks kinda terrible unless it's downloaded, yeah. Alright, fixing in multiple parts:
Hopefully I can explain this adequately.
I forgot this in my previous feedback, but I actually liked the resistance idea even though its scaling was a bit too severe--and the reason I liked it is because it seemed like an elegant solution since I assumed that DS/TD scaling would never work.
Here's why.
For the sake of the argument, the max reasonably sustainable extra melee AS you can wrangle out of a perfect group composition is in the realm of 130. It can be a bit more with really good Coup de Grace rolls or really hyperfocused lores, but let's just say Coup de Grace gives 30, Zealot gives 45, Kai's Triumph Song gives 25, Benediction gives 15, and Side by Side gives 15. However, that's the added AS given to professions who have none of those normally; for any profession that does have those normally, subtract that amount of AS and you're basically only left with monks, rangers, and war pures benefiting, none of whom have particularly good melee AS.
So I assumed that using a DS boost to counteract group strength would either A) be minimal enough to get overpowered by a sufficiently AS-focused group or B) be high enough to account for those AS-focused groups, inadvertently shutting out insufficiently AS-focused groups, namely ones that are lacking two or more of those.
That's if people are just blindly swinging, of course. The alternative expectation might be that a group could simply debuff DS by hundreds, but that would only be true if either A) the group includes a warrior for Carn's Cry, which certainly isn't guaranteed, or B) single-target immobilizers like Moonbeam, Web, or Subdue are sensible because the group is focusing on killing rooms of one or two creatures at a time, which seems unlikely since then they probably wouldn't be grouping.
The other alternative explanation is that maybe a group is supposed to overpower with FOF, but that assumes people have a bunch of Transcend Destiny, which is only even possibly true when talking about groups not composed entirely of--well--the exact demographic most likely to be reading this channel every day and replying to it frequently. Even then, even if they do have a bunch of Transcend Destiny, offering FOF as the player solution to a DS buff would be a strange or possibly self-contradictory concept because FOF is a DS pushdown clashing with the very DS that the game mechanics are increasing to offset groups. At that point, might as well just leave DS alone and not have FOF apply because it would be the same outcome.
That's all melee AS. Bolt AS and ranged AS are worse off because they don't benefit from Zealot or Side by Side.
As for CS, the only AoE TD pushdown I know of is Mass Interference, so it's even worse off than bolt AS. Other than that, a similar story to AS, but more problematic. Even assuming that unlikely scenario I mentioned that a group is killing one or two creatures at a time, the group that would need to debuff DS by hundreds at least has Web on 8 out of 10 professions and so probably has a single-target immobilizer, but a group that would need to debuff TD by dozens needs a sorcerer or bust. The only TD debuff options at all are Curse, Elemental Saturation, and Interference (Mass or otherwise), with those latter two being from different spheres and so only counting half as effective for other spheres, which means you really need all of them at once.
So then it comes back to FOF again for TD and the same reasoning as before applies why it won't work.
Resistances/padding, on the other hand, are a pretty clean solution where everyone can continue doing their thing; if they could fight the creature before, they still can, but might just need to hit more times. The padding was far too extreme in the last implementation, though, so I'd say for the next round, try either:
A) capping the crit padding at something much lower than it was
or
B) (if this is even possible) creating a form of crit padding in which the damage remains unchanged, but the crit is reduced. (That's opposite to how, say, myrmidon padding works, where a lethal crit is still lethal even if it's reduced to 1 damage. I'm saying to render a lethal crit non-lethal, but let it still do full damage--again, if possible.)
The latter idea is probably in line with what groups have fun with because then everybody can get their shots in. People in groups (talking multiple players here, not MAing) generally try not to hog kills, which they wouldn't if they were mostly doing sheer damage instead of crit killing.
I like option B.
i think option b is better as well. from having run 7 people in test, attacks using smr were the only reliable ways ways to do damage
Agreed. I think what I'll probably do is eliminate the TD mod, keep a significantly reduced DS mod, and tweak up the padding just a tad.
Is the groupmovement flag supposed to be disabled in parts of HW? Or is that a bug?

Isn't the boost supposed to be for groups > 5 characters?
That tripped me up too, but I double checked and the designation of 5 characters as a small group was actually referring to how the spawn rates are supposed to affect the play experience and had nothing to do with Ascension buffs: #mechanics message
If it were "ascension buffs" it would apply to solo characters.

Auchand: I still like the feel of small group hunting, but if I had it all to do over again, I'd probably make Ascension for solos and small groups, then make it more difficult for large groups.
Alastir: How do you define "large group"
Auchand: Over 5 characters?
Oh, interesting.
I've always considered 5+ characters grouped together to be a lot.
You can share bounties in a group of 5.
I'd appreciate some clarification on what the goal is so I can evaluate how many characters I will keep, based upon that goal.
Currently on test, ALL grouping is penalized when I was under the impression that "large groups", defined as over 5 characters, would be penalized.
I wouldn't say grouping is "penalized." It's just an extra challenge and well within a group's ability to handle.
That depends on which area you're hunting in and what profession the character is. Some attack methods are penalized challenged more than others.
It seems to deviate from what has been stated so far.
Elaborate on the first statement?
The pits were already difficult. I was not expecting increased difficulty in my "small group" and my bolter becomes ineffective to the point of doing little to no damage, either from the padding increase, or from the DS increase providing immunity.
Also, as a bolter, the wizard is required to go into offensive stance, which means the creatures that cannot be "locked down" can and will one shot him, as shown in the caption above.
It feels different in Eldur/Ojand where the creatures weren't already at the top end of offensive/defensive abilities.
I significantly reduced the bolt spell DS piece of the buff earlier today.
I tested again after you stated you changed the buffs.
That Wizard AS is with 211, 215, 1007, 307, symbols and full enhancives with some ascension enhancive training. There aren't any other levers to pull.

What's the disir's current situation there? 912'd and on the ground?
I just want to know what setup steps you took to lower its DS, etc.
Opened with 1015, 512, because it's Immune to Stomp/909, it will shake 316/Stun. Would normally hamstring but there were other targets in the room, so had to prioritize.
There are other options I could try, but this works as things are currently. Which is what I expected things to be like, based upon being in a "small group".
If the goalpost is moving to "all groups" will face a greater challenge, which is different than what I've read so far, that's fine. I just want it to be clearly stated that's the goal and what is being worked toward so I can make informed choices.
Disir are difficult generally. I almost always start them by disarming that nasty spear, that will put them in RT and allow me to attempt some maneuvers. Is this live or just on test still? Sounds challenging.
Test only.
I will modify some tactics and test again.
My biggest "issue" is that I want to know where the delineation is going to be for group size and penalties. What is currently on test is not what was stated.
What is more fun? Whacking at a tanky disir who just keeps absorbing blows and eventually dies or whacking a less padded disir with more defense and you miss most of the time but get in one good crit?
I think #1.
I agree, plus #1 is flarestone compliant

Can this be applied to a shield in addition to a weapon?
I have a character that uses a wand and a shield. So there's no way to apply this that I'm aware of.
So has anyone MAd the Wyrm?
I pretty much solo hunt but could group a few guys to go after it..
Never done it yet, the Wyrm
i mean it's honestly not that complicated really. like you can focus on more optimizing specifics but as long as you have people who can hit it in flying and do enough damage it'll just die for the most part. have someone try to keep it webbed, have someone breeze or call wind for the acid cloud maybe and other than that you can probably just like... kill it. part of my assumption for simplicity here is assuming a boat load of exp and potentially gear cause shattered
but specifically yes afaik dreaven and others all did all or most of their own gem quests w/ their respective dudes
I may try a few solo runs then...just see how it goes
But this info, with specific spells, helps a lot
I saw leafis how to...so that helps too
so debuffs obviously help especially for CS casters, the td can be nutty. so in general if you just need more help to let everyone do damage like... remember all those things exist. so 413/715/lol mystic strike from a monk/etc. 412 exists also takes down AS, and yeah all that i forgot that page exists.
trying to keep it in roundtime/web weill get you there as long as you have at least 2 people that can put out a lot of damage on it so if you have that sorted for less ready people just making sure you get a single hit on it to get your contribution credit you can just have them spam 118/912/whatever
Nice
things can obviously go sidewise. you can really try to minimax stuff if you want to optimize for ensuring debuffs are active / people are not CC'd / healing / etc. but yeah. that or just throw bodies and spam CC you'll probably succeed more often than not. People have solo'd it which takes a lot more gear and work lol but i mean, if that's POSSIBLE (even with nutty kits) obviously having 5 warm bodies is enough
I'll probably try solo once just to see the ins and outs a bit
Hell yeah, keep them coming.... The solo experience

(Need to make some of the ascension critters have a spawn AOE like how war griffins will screech you sometimes when they spawn)
I feel like the revised spawn mechanic leaves things a little light. It took me 2x as long to fill a critter quantity bounty. Also, it feels less chaotic and less random, and I feel like critter gen should feel unpredictable and with more variation. I will also say that unplanned consequences need to be considered, especially when changing such a long standing system. Good luck!
We're never going to please everyone. The net result has been more creature spawns, not fewer.
But we always try to look forward to unplanned consequences.
I'll do some more hunts and get back to you. It may be that it was because I was the only one in the region, so if fewer hunters means lower numbers, then maybe the individual numbers need a little uptweak.
Can you possibly turn the Greatchamber up to 11? Thank you. ❤️
(yes this is mostly a joke... mostly)
On a totally separate note, Wyrmslayer titles when? 👀
Formal request for "Wyrmslayer Lite" title if we do them. 👍
Not before my 5/10 and 10/10 transdestiny titles dangit!
After quite a few more hunts, I think the one with the difficulty filling a bounty was an anomaly. Plenty of critters around while hunting solo, and it doesn't feel mechanical or contrived. Feels pretty normal.
That's good. I'm gearing up to release Champion's Apotheosis, too!

So struggling with the area that is ANGARGREFT
Wyrm says it's over there.... ran everywhere and never saw the Ballista
Any help here

Is the great chamber part of ANGARGREFT?
Yes, but not for ballista purposes. The upstairs areas are where it would be.
In the pits? Or towards hanging gardens
Gardens and Berserker's End.
Sonofa..lol
Didn't go towards berserkers
The outdoor areas, basically, because that's where the wyrm can fly down to.

Auchand just so you don't lose track of it from the CA thread: since HW opened it's been the case that hitting a gorefrost golem with a fire spell produces messaging about vulnerability to fire, but it doesn't seem to do any more damage to them. Also golem related: when they apply their SLOWED debuff, it doesn't show up anywhere you can track (ie the Debuffs window), even if we aren't going to be able to dispel it it would be great to see it under Debuffs

Golem has vulnerability messaging, but the golem and hinterboar both get the same 10 splash damage from the ball. Similar endroll and damage results between the two shots also
I always thought perhaps it was working, but the effects aren't obvious due to the built-in padding the golem probably has - meaning any other element would've done just 1 damage; but maybe you're right, I suppose the effect could be entirely broken
Has anyone else seen drop issues with gigas fragments recently? I've been on a couple of long hunts now and haven't found a single fragment.
I just refilled from 5->20 like 30 minutes ago
Zero of them in two hunts
Yeah, my whole group is just seeing incredibly slow accumulation. Perhaps the drop rate was tweaked?
I was able to fill up in 1 long hunt in the greatchamber, but it's possible its buggy elsewhere. I was solo though not sure if the new group mechanics might be impeding collecting as a group
Yeah, that's what I'm wondering.
My squad is staying stocked fine
I filled up in a group of 2 in about 10m earlier in Fjallalahahart
I've gotten a grand total of two now, whether grouped or solo, between Ojandhaart and the Burrow
I have noticed in the past when I joined like a big wyrm group and cleared a ballista I wouldn’t get many, if any fragments. I don’t know if that equates but it’d usually be 10+ mobs.
Autocorrect is doing me so dirty tonight
Incredibly bad luck for us?
No.
I don’t know if it’s bad luck or maybe something wonky but it would be weird if— oh hi Auchand.
Incredibly bad luck, then.
Fragment drop rates appear to be based on combat contribution, similar to exp gain, except that it also only counts people in the room. That part was always the case.
The new factor is that combat contribution seems to be very affected in a group context with Champion's Apotheosis in play if you're using primarily crit-based attacks. For some workarounds, you could either A) have the person most in need of fragments do the bulk of the work so they're more likely to get fragments or B) have everyone else leave the room except the person most in need of fragments while that person loots, then they come back after.
It seems like it might be an area bug. We were all getting them as expected in Eldurhaart, but not in Ojandhaart
Ahh, the classic "technically different creature profiles" thing from Fjallarhaart way back when...
And solo in the Burrows, there would've been no reason for "doing the bulk of the work" as a solo to reduce it to zero
I haven't checked in on the Burrows since the spawn changes, but it used to be mostly undansormrs and those don't drop fragments. Oozes that also drop into the Burrows do, though, so if those weren't, that would be a problem.
I can double check logs but I’m pretty sure I pulled a couple of frags from oozes in Sanguine Grove earlier.
Maybe just unlucky with the oozes I came across, to be fair I was mostly after undansormrs. I didn't know they won't drop fragments. But Ojandhaart definitely seems like it needs a look after CA.
Very few fragments for anyone in the group when we were there, but dropping as normal across the whole group when we moved to Eldurhaart to test it out.
thanks for sharing all that Meli!
I never get any when clearing the ballista, i just assumed the ballista gigas didn't drop them at all.
Anytime I do get them while clearing the ballista, it's because normal area creatures spawned while clearing.
I kinda think that’s probably true.

this is some really bad luck immediately followed by some really good luck

Goodness.
That was wild
Wow, 12 separate hits from the deathnado. And you lived to tell the tale!
Deathnado is one of those critter attacks for which damage padding is really amazing. If you have bad luck and take a few deathnados in a row, it can easily prevent the loss of 100+ HP (and be the difference between life and death)
Did you like go get a frosty beverage while you waited for death?
A player made a comment about gigas fragments not dropping. Has anyone else been experiencing that?
Working fine for me, but the comment was about Ojandhaart and I don't hunt there, so can't speak to that.
They don’t spawn from ballista spawned gigas. That was a tangent from the same discussion.
Not sure if that’s intentional.
Loot is destroyed in ojandhaart permanently because it is a gemstone farming frenzy. I believe loot pressure impacts gigas drop rates, so the zone is always bad for fragments
Loot in HW was great from May 2022 until March 2025 and it's never coming back
I’ve continued to see few to none in Ojandhaart, but normal amounts anywhere else in HW
Hmm. What's up with the frostling? I tried giving him food, drinks, a stick, a winterberry from his room...and all of it was rejected with a message I haven't seen before: "You have nothing suitable to offer Bittergale." It is a harsh and unforgiving land .
so i just started my Survival/FA journey and am 1x Survival with no FA... still can't skin anything in HW. Does it get any better at 1x/1x or should i expect to push past 1x before i'm able to skin anything?
I assume 1x/1x is baseline and you will still have trouble until like 2x/2x
i wouldn't care but having to pass on all the skinning bounties is getting frustrating
yeah, same here you definitely need to go beyond 1x/1x for the best experience.
at least survival isn't like a dead skill anymore and it's good to 2x for other things. i mean it always kinda was but especially with the reduction to disables.
yah, the disables reduction is why i started training it, i completely forgot that it would open me up to skinning tasks so now i'm doing FA to try to make skinning semi-viable before i 2x Survival heh
2x/2x allows you to skin nearly 100% of the time, with a high quality. As a side note, I keep a lot of high quality/value skins at my shop in Icemule. They're priced at 3x assessed value, so you can decide for yourself if you want to just finish the task, or want ad many BPs as possible.
I have a character at 1x/1x and they eventually finish a skinning bounty after a few hunts
My empath is 3xfa/2xsu and she finishes every skinning task the first hunt without trying. I never aim and have tons of flares to cause lots of wounds.
Quite a few folks already know about this area/writing, but figured some others might get a kick out of it (and the "Gigas goggles" I made)
At the top of a rough-hewn spruce ladder, the nest of the watch post looks out over a sea of white-capped trees. The timbers of the foundation creak and groan, and the makeshift building sways in the breeze. You also see a dog-eared old tome.

Weird why would bounties for heirlooms for Valravn be search?
You have been tasked to recover a bronze diopside-inset bracer that an unfortunate citizen lost after being attacked by an eyeless black valravn in the Hinterwilds near Cold River. The heirloom can be identified by the initials CU engraved upon it. SEARCH the area until you find it.
These guys have loot... shouldn't heirlooms be looted from them?
Because they're birds.
I thought search bounties were reserved for critters that don't carry loot. I get boxes, gems, silvers, etc off valravns.
You're right that generally the rule is that things that drop loot also have LOOT heirloom bounties. But I think that mostly a side effect of, generally speaking, animal mobs not dropping loot.
Caw.
There are other exceptions here and there. Earth elementals and greater earth elementals in the Bowels are also SEARCH heirlooms even though they drop gems.
That makes more sense to me. What about Kiramon?
may we request that animated (730) Mastadons perform stomps as well as they do when 'alive'? it would save a lot of time for sorcerers who like tremors support and travel to Solhaven to collect a monstrosity that literally casts the same spell as Mastadons before they are animated
Basically asking for mastodons to be stronger...let that sink in

They don't spawn there but can leak out so you can always do a drive by checking. Cannibals and bloodspeakers can spawn or wander anywhere between the villages (besides the hoarbriar, though i guess they could technically still wander into there)

It's just, a good spell I think! It's 15 mana so it oughta be
It being a good spell isn't super relevant. He tanks 719 and 1414 from disciples and they do 1-5 damage per round. Based on the above hit with zero redux, the spell may not be factoring in redux at all
(See above 1414 with similar end roll)
It...seems like it is? Do you have 50% spelldux or something?
40%
If it's doing 38/15 on a 148 end roll and 76/45 on a 248 without any spelldux and you take 40% of the damage off then it seems like the 205 I had in the middle is not reduced. Would need to confirm on test prob
So 38 damage on a 148 roll is a hair above .79 damage per 1 endroll, that would be 168 damage on a 204 endroll. Obv there would be a cap or diminishing returns...slowmode is dumb
Uhh, your 248 did not do 168 on the 1st round...
Yea, monstrosities built different haha
How so? My 719 crit kills them unless they self revive

Do a lot of folks that are in HW stick with bounties or do they just...idk hunt until encumbered or the frost ward wears off? Bounties seem to take forever to complete.
What in the world are you hunting that it's taking forever? The higher level creatures usually have very low bounty kill counts needed (sometimes as low as 10) while the lower level creatures range from swarmy to ultra swarmy.
The Burrows are slow, though, but the only things in there are higher level and should usually not need much culling.
Edit: Oh, didn't think about golems. If you're hunting those, like... don't.
I bounty hunt non-stop on my monk and sorc. You can just "ask about easier" until you are the baseline 5 under/over and you will only get bounties in the boreal forest and gigas villages. You can hunt draugr / valravn in the Fjall area. My sorcerer does harder bounties, but abandons ooze and anything in the sanguine forest (undansormrs, disciples and reptiles).
Killing Golems never bothers me. My monk can kill them with 2 assaults (fury / barrage) and my sorcerer just one-shots them with 717. I guess it depends on what you hunt with.
A lot of people who hunt HW just go to the pits and nowhere else. They prefer swarm lite, and don't bother with bounties. Since I need to keep a lot of enhancives charged, and my preference is BP charging, it fuels my desire to keep bounty hunting. Also I enjoy getting 7-12k per turn-in after loot capping!
I think he's on a warpath, which is about the worst possible matchup against golems. Could be wrong, though!
No you are right. My warpath. Yeah it was like 12-15 golems. Or bloodspeakers. Or idk. Just sometimes feels like those take forever to find enough of.
right now I have one that is to find something from a shield-maiden. I'll see how that one goes. F-haart, O-haart or E-haart is one better than the other ya think?
Fjallarhaart will get spillover from the pits. Unlikely to see those in the other two, if that makes a difference for you.
Huge difference. Thank you.

Atleast. If you want to skin well you might need more than 1x FA/1x survival
But with lootcap, skinning is a trap
What is this new GS meta where training in skills makes the game less fun/worse 😭
I'll be real interested to see if we're provided new metrics on lootcap, it sometimes feel like the same few folks comment on it but we're told so few reach it

Doesn't have to be blunt per se, it just has to be 50% or more crush. So a handaxe works for example.
I think bows are broken for it, by the way—in the right hand, they should act as quarterstaves, which do crush damage, but they’re ineffective: https://gswiki.play.net/Long_bow

Would be cool if the packmother awarded something special when killed, even if it was just like 1k-2k saturated exp.
It seems like it's become a regrettable afterthought that could be something special when it spawns.
You need to secure one of those white warg pelts from her after your lootcapped and sell it for 12 silvers!
12 silvers is 12 silvers.....
You ask Furryback to appraise an alabaster warg pelt.
Furryback gives you a sly wink before saying, "This isn't entirely worthless. Call me generous, but I guess I could offer you 91 silvers for it."
Although this discussion has reminded me that I need to dump my trading ranks so the warg pelt doesn't hit my loot cap so hard.
Did anyone ever confirm trading re-adjusts the value to affect lootcap? It doesnt make sense as what happens if I just give the skins to my alt with 2x trading or if I wait a month and sell all skins from March in April.
But yeah that is a "valuable" miniboss reward you got there!
I just use mine for cobbling.
I basically hoard all my 12 silver skins at the end to power my Animalistic AS Totem. That thing goes through skins like a monster.
i stopped using the totems because they were so needy.
I just stopped skinning because I'd rather have more chances to find items than to saturate my bank account with silvers from skins. Once I get to loot cap, I'll skin again and put them into my idol.
Yeah, i only skinned it because it was the packmother.
I'm with you on not wanting skin value applied against loot cap.
Which kind of points to an aspect of the game being broken.
I wouldn't mind if skin value only counted towards loot cap if you sell the hide to an NPC that way you could still skin for bounties, to fuel items, whatever random alchemy needs skins, and so on, but if you actually generate silvers (via sell action) then it applies.
Like an item you could tag your skins with that would make them unsellable but retain their original value for fuel.
Probably the wrong place for these ideas to get visibility.

@cyan lynx a note for you: Disir's use of shields is still buggy. They frequently get the defensive use of a shield after their shield is sunderered, or is worn. I'd bug it in game but I'm on vacation till tomorrow! I keep forgetting to bug it.

Once again, I report the Wargs are cheating. I went from 264HP to~~ 134~~ 143 HP = 54% of my total HP and I get coup'd. I still had more than half my health left and they are successfully landing coup. This appears to be extremely common to have more than 50% of your total HP with max health enhancives equipped.
My monk has died a whopping 42 times in 2026. It looks like 34 of those times were from Warg Coup. 4 of them were from the Sybil, and I died twice to an ooze... These guys absolutely cheat, and their coup mechanic needs to be reviewed as I wholeheartedly believe they are using the maneuver as if you had zero max health enhancives without penalty.
134 is 50% of 264 if you truncate. I don’t know where you are getting 54%. 50.7575757575%
If it’s basically truncating somehow you would need at least 135 I think.
Sorry! I copied a number accidentally it was 143 total HP after all the damage. I lost 121 HP

I have to ask... did they change something with open rolls in hinterlands the last couple months? I have been away a spell and am having a real rough time of it after getting back the last couple days
Nope. Open rolls aren't something that can be tweaked anyway, it's a fixed percentage
yeah, I just wondered if they tweaked how often they use the abilities or something
When did Wargs start using Coup?
They have always used Coup
Can confirm, they have removed Illithek's head many times lol
I've only seen them use Coup while under 1120. It was glorious.
One time I stubbed my toe and then they pulled my head off
HW was opened in may of '22
The earliest "HEY WHAT THE HELL WARG?" post in #mechanics is from April, 3 of '22 so, i assume that was still when it was still just on the test realm. So those wargs been coupin since they came out the womb MONGEN
Strange. I used to hunt there and don't recall it ever happening to me. I suppose I could have lost it in the scroll.
It's pretty hard to miss, what with the dying and all
eh, i miss it a bunch too just cause like, i don't think it matters most of the time i was probably gonna die anyways. it just saved me some time. which is a thing with a lot of complaints about it like, if you got that jacked upand are missing 150+ health you were very likely to die anyway. obviously not all of them, but.... probably most of them lol.
I have yet to be killed by a warg. Step 1: kill wargs upon entry, don't let them turn into a pack. Step 2: kill the mastadon you were working on before the warg showed up.
What if step 1 is getting put into 20s RT by an SSR howl or berserker shout?
90% of my deaths are exactly the same.
- Get put into an extremely long RT of some kind, generally SSR (though it did happen once with a Golem ability)
- Stagger continues to be refreshed and never wears off.
- Warg performs hamstring which applies stun while stuck in RT.
- Health drops to under 60% (instead of the 50% that coup should require) and Warg almost always immediately uses Coup resulting in instant death.
Keep in mind, this is on a kroderine soul square with extremely high evasion and SMR defense with 4/5 coup de grace trained, so it just doesn't matter.
do you have any training of Swift Recovery, by chance?
5/5 specifically trained to mitigate stagger refresh, and still has not helped. I died 4x in a single day to coup, and just decided it was time to leave HWs.
I've been hunting there since 2022 when it released on this monk. He has never died this much until after the bloodstone jewelry was released an his max health was boosted. Now I get coup'd insanely frequently which leads me to believe there is a bug with the ability specifically if you have boosted your max health by a significant amount, the HP threshold for coup becomes waaaay higher. I died 4 times in 2025 to coup before I had max HP enhancives. I have died 38 times since.
I sometimes consider if I'm going to mess with wargs to hunt in advanced just to see if I can make it through
How many times cap? What class? I feel like there must be a training change that would help with this.
This is a monk, 3x cap, kroderine soul. I'm telling you the problem is super basic. My monk went from 160HP with only minor HP enhancives, put on a bloodstone jewelry item and is now at 260HP, and is getting coup'd constantly because it is massively inflating the value at which these wargs are able to coup my character. He's only spent 98 Ascension points so far, so I can't get TD just yet, but I've hunted hinterwilds for years and the past 3 months have been hell. The only significant change has been my max HP.
Well if that's the case that makes no sense. Do you think it's calc-ing off the wrong amount of HP? If that's the case, keep complaining.
It's been bugging me a lot that when I go back through my logs, I am very frequently over 50% HP when wargs use Coup. I have already bugged it in game. They also grow hands for ripping out spines as well...
I have had several cases where out of my total 260HP, I am over 160HP when they use their ability, but usually around 140HP. Both of which are over 50%. So in summary, yes I think there are significant creature bugs with Coup both with how it calculates when the critter is "allowed" to activate the ability if the player target has enhanced their Max HP and with the messaging which is not appropriate for a Warg.
I have also had a sneaking suspicion about coup as I swear there are times my dude had 60-70% HP then just one shot by coup. Its hard to track though since no damage shown and your health goes to negative.

This all happened at the same time... is that 3 different wargs attempting to all use coup simultaneously!?
Like, that is an excellent example that Wargs have some kind of automatic trigger as soon as they detect you could be coup'd they immediately activate the ability. 4 simultaneous attempts to use Coup.
I went back to my logs and searched in 2024 and 2025 - 0 hits for the Coup messaging. Never once did a Warg attempt to Coup me with over 35,000 encounters with the creature.
I was really hoping the bloodstone jewelry would buy me that extra time to recover from stagger long enough to survive when I get stagger locked (the only thing that ever killed me previously, well that and random 1-shots to the face from disir spear/lances) but it seriously has just made this hunting grounds impossible...
I believe there are actually two issues with the warg’s coup:
1: They are able to use coup at substantially above 50% health (probably due to a bug which ignores enhancive max health, as others have suggested)
2): When a player becomes “eligible” for coup based on health remaining, wargs seem to employ coup with nearly 100% of all actions
Who is our Hinterwilds creature GM to @ despite being past the march of bug fixes?
Auchand
Since we are on the topic of Wargs, why is their howl so hard to resist? All warcry maneuvers seem to always get me.

It’s SSR. SSR is basically auto hit. It sucks and should be replaced by MDR.
You need a bigger disc
When you absolutely do not read something correctly, but it still fits perfectly.
Mission accomplished 😄
Let me consider this.
I don't mind you guys pinging me when it's something important. Just don't ping other GMs.
You should give yourself the +canTag role
Will be excited to hear if you find any anomalies! This has been driving me nuts because the normally challenging but not insane hunting grounds became untenable all of the sudden. It felt super bad.
Yes, give yourself the +canTag role because another GM might see someone ping you, and you don't have the flag, and take action against the player because of it, even though you've stated you allow it
@cyan lynx Not SUPER important but HW has WL bank listed when you try to transfer silvers via realm boost: >bank trans vorn 2000000 You have chosen to transfer 2,000,000 silver from the Vornavis Bank of Solhaven to the First Elanith Secured Bank.
Also it'd be alright with me if the artificer could train up some apprentices so we don't have to burn gigasbux to travel to HW to do anything with our gemstones
You could also go to Sailor's Grief. 😛
Feels like you're implying that it's intended to be inconvenient(in addition to, now, wildly expensive) to modify or trade gemstones haha!
BTW, been hunting in hinterwilds all day long, but I removed my bloodstone jewelry and I have not once been coup'd by wargs.
Over 1200 encounters today (yes, I have been hunting a lot) and no attempts to coup even though I have had some close calls with the SSR RT lock stuff.
Absolutely something is going on with inflating Max Health w/ enhancives creating a huge coup window of opportunity for Wargs.
Until the root cause can be identified, I would suggest not running the bloodstone items if you're susceptible to being RT locked and have your HP slowly chewed away.
I’m not commenting to judge one way or the other but the 2500 silver sleigh ride to HW is relatively quick. Once my rogue gets there I just symbol of return which takes me into town. Then I just burn 4 fragments to go home. I haven’t really found that to be terribly inconvenient since it is easy to farm 4 fragments in a minute or two.
Not sure where the other society’s transport powers bring them. All I know is having 130 drop you off at the sleigh is so rude when you want to be in town !
As opposed to how it could be, hopping over to the artificer's room in the local gem shop
It's just an arbitrary annoyance and I can't see any reason at all to not have an NPC in every town for it. I needed 2m silvers to do an amplify and couldn't transfer it via the BANK command due to aforementioned thing where HW transfers it to WL
I'll just end up getting the amplify next month because there's no reason for me to go back to HW for the rest of the month
For more points of data. I have hunted the hinterwilds for 12-14 hours over the past couple days with my T5 bloodstone item unequiped, and I have had zero attempts to Coup de Grace from any wargs. This isn't luck. Searching my logs, I did not go for more than a few hours on any given day while wearing the Max HP enhancive item without being coup'd to death or at least having a warg attempt and fail. There is clearly something going on with the max health enhancives and Coup!
Side note - I did NOT unequip it on my giantman wizard, and he died to Coup yesterday. Sequence of events for that death was Hamstring -> One normal melee hit -> Coup.... dead.
Yeah, I'll take a look at this. I agree there is an issue.
@cyan lynx what I said about Disir using their shields when they don't have them, was just the messaging from 1620, Battle Standard. I could have sworn they were using a shield after I'd sundered it, turns out they were, just not the ones they were carrying.
Can we get some after-combat metrics after fighting sybil and wyrm? Something that lets you know if you were under contributing or not. It wouldn't show you anyone else's stats so it doesn't end up being competitive, but it can just show you (and you alone) what % of damage you did, how many CCs and debuffs you landed and how long they lasted, how much damage you took, etc. These fights are so spammy that even going through logs after the fight is a massively time-consuming ordeal
That sounds like a job for the scripting forum haha, or just look at logs?
i thought about making that once. then i went back to work :/
maybe use an unsupervised search to categorize sources of all damage, and then nearest-field out whatever name caused it - with special exemptions for damage-over-time flares like rot or blood boil. chatgpt could probably build it in ten minutes
I was excited to try that and then got frustrated because you can't directly link all damage back to a specific person; it quickly turned into a bigger lift than I was willing to do
you could probably link most of the damage, though, right?
it seemed like, any damage between names probably came from the name above it, outside the exception cases
like, dispel could easily be linked to the name below, for instance
i think the first step is just a 100% accurate damage counter - that way you can check for unattributed damage and know that you're good when you've been able to name-stamp all of it
AI can be super useful for that. You have to train it though, mostly because of what Ralk said. Some of the damage can be tricky to attribute
Waylay don't want that heat
Nerf incoming
Don't either of you bring that heat down on us.
right, that's why it's so important to have a non-AI audit of the remaining un-attributed damage
coup bug still going strong
Yeah, I took off my bloodstone jewelry and have been hunting HW for the last 10 days without it, and only seen Coup 1 time since.
In fact, the only time I've died was due to client crash, so not sure it was worth the investment. Might let the attunment fall off and sell the thing.
I thought coup 50% max 200 health, would that mean threshold to coup is reached at -100 health (+ stun or whatever incapacitation requirement)? Funny the go-to-without-fail aspect of it though.
the working theory is that the % health loss is calculated before the bloodstone, so if you had 200 health without bloodstone, and 300 health with bloodstone, you could get couped at 175 health since you lost 125 health out of your pre-enhanced 200 health. (More then 50%)
that would be incapacitated, but take it a step further, and even when not incapacitated you could get couped at 240 health since you lost 60 health of your pre-enhanced 200 health. (More then 25%)
You’re missing out since you switched away from empath! When you sympathy the wargs and they coup things you get the big ol’ AS buff!!
i do still miss healing quite a bit! i love empath. but, alas, it would be pretty hard to let go of Core Tap and all the other CC
Can we get carts and teleports to and from Zul like Icemule and elven Nations?
just died to the coup bug yet again, could we get this looked at maybe?

You're also getting totally boned by the bonuses they're getting. Is there anything you can train in to hedge your odds a bit? Right now you're facing 95% chance of coup when they attempt it. Are you still using an empath bauble? Probably best to ditch that until this bug is fixed.
yes, they have hands
don’t think about where they come from
Just remove your +max health enhancives (i.e. bloodstone jewelry), and you will be much safer when hunting in warg territory. I have, and my monk has only died to disconnects and picking up a box I couldn't store due to weight.
It could be a while before the coup bug w/ max health enhancives is addressed.

thanks for the suggestions, all -- i think i was stunned etc., hence the terrible defenses -- i'm pretty geared out at this point. maybe i can update my prehunt script to skipt the empath trinket for HW bounties, i just dislike having to alter my hunting patterns to work around longstanding bugs, you know
in case it's helpful, it feels like wargs are basically spamming the keyboard with coup as soon as your health is low -- i've noticed a couple of times that as soon as my health drops even a couple points from something like a bleed, the coup is instant. it feels like a trigger
("spamming the keyboard" seems pretty accurate they apparently have hands!)
They do. The pack of wargs I was fighting when I used the bloodstone jewelry item showed 6 different attempts immediately following a stun. It becomes their default attack if you qualify, and you qualify much earlier than you should with a lot of max health enhancives.

An immense gold-bristled hinterboar** feints** to the left. You spot the ruse too late and twist awkwardly to block the blow that never came!

A ghost of rage twists a withered shadow-cloaked draugr's decaying features!
Wisps of shadow follow the arc of a withered shadow-cloaked draugr's arm as he swings a huge black alloy greatsword at you!
AS: +677 vs DS: +393 with AvD: +42 + d100 roll: +58 = +384
... and hits for 155 points of damage!
You hear several snaps as your neck is broken in several places.
(I did not appreciate the Living and Undead tag team.....)

Mightn't it be possible to actually make some LOOT in, I don't know, one of the highest level hunting areas in the entire game? Seems pretty ridiculous at this point.
HW is pretty overhunted the 1st couple days of the week for gemstone and dust hunting. It is still wealthier than ME. Loot pressure seems counter productive if we're capped anyway...
If you’re hunting the forest or the gigas villages those are the easiest ascension zones so the loot gets pretty crushed.
Also, a single hunt is a pretty bad metric of measurement no matter how long you ran the hunt for. RNG is gonna RNG. Check total loot found in a week, and then decide if the place is poor or broke (at least).
I make a lot more in rhe forest then the villages, if only because there is so much magic trash
Any chance of getting a trashcan in Rawknuckle's where the artificer stands? People turning in their onslaught quests apparently can't be bothered to move somewhere else to toss their sacks away
Lazy script hunters who can't be bothered to use the proper syntax to get rid of things like that properly. My bane.
The burlap sack should just be TOSSable, which it isn’t currently.
It should be tossable.
Also people who are too lazy to walk literally one room east should just be banned probably. Ez pz.
The frosting may appreciate those sacks ...
is there a bug or something with bloodstones and coup de gras? I can be full health and a small 1 round stun and a warg will get me or a stalker in the hive. if I am not pinged to death its these two that kill me with that maneuver. its really really annoying
why yes yes there is
frickin frackin thats horrible just take coup from the critters till its fixed
it’s on Auchands radar
Coup and Sympathy are nasty when used by mobs.
I pulled the bloodstone jewelry off my monk because it was killing him 3-4x a week, and now he dies a regular amount of times.
Coup is worse when it kills you when you are uninjured and at 99 pct health
yeah I klnow that really needs to be fixed not cool to alll the folks who put the time and money in to NOT get killed and a cman kills us because of something that supposed to help. Kinda sounds like Empyrean Rule!
Oddly enough - both of my characteres only have B4s and have never ever been affected by this coup bug with wargs. Not sure if it is only impacting people with B5s?
Hello! I would love to tag a long with a sybil group. I used my one free pass quest access. Please reach out if you need another party member. Thanks!
We have some summoning extras, next time you're around and up for doing it, pop a thought on the wyrmwatch ESP channel and we can get a group going for you!
It's also very early and there's an onslaught coming up. 🙁
Ok! I can definitely not duo the packmother...my poor poor empath.
Oh, yes, I can try again later (after onslaught). Thank you, Riend!
I can run up if you want help.
Thank you! You are very kind. But I just stumbled across her...really had no beef against her but thought I could take her on...yeah. Bad puppy. Found my two geodes and now back to Sanctum
The packmother has so much health lol. I wish it had a cool drop for killing it.
It has a special skin!
It makes the best animate. Level 160ish
