#[Official] Hinterwilds
1 messages · Page 4 of 1
Splintered barrels mark the entrance to a battered turf house that must have been a cooper's shop. Embergrass grows thick on the snowy rooftop, which has collapsed inward in places, leaving the dwelling's front door impassable. Several unfinished staves lean next to the entrance as if waiting to be worked. You also see an eyeless black valravn that is flying around, an eyeless black valravn that appears dead, a tattooed gigas berserker that appears dead, a huge black alloy greatsword, a grim gigas skald that appears dead, a grim gigas skald that appears dead, an eyeless black valravn that appears dead, a withered shadow-cloaked draugr that appears dead, a tattooed gigas berserker that appears dead, an eyeless black valravn that appears dead, a grim gigas skald that appears dead, a lean brown fringe-toed yierka, a withered shadow-cloaked draugr that appears dead and an eyeless black valravn that appears dead.

This is me just standing next to a room with a huge MA group
Its good that I could handle this...but most people would be dead in a second.
Yeah, same. The swarms + spectral get interesting; I took a swarm out in front of the hall a few days ago and there were 25 dead on the ground before they started decaying and I was still swinging at new critters wandering in. When the "Room Window" is just a scroll of critters you know its going to be interesting.
I noticed a lot off spectral creatures in the area of late. Was curious what was causing it. Thanks for the heads up.
I don't mind the spectral critters. Keeps you on your toes. The blanket void flinging is annoying.
Whether I go into the Hinterwilds with 1, 2, 3, 4, or 7 (or any other number, but those are the ones I’ve done this month multiple times each—and some were group hunts, not even MA), I actually won’t engage with a Fjallarhaart room unless it has minimum three creatures in it. If the area’s stirred up enough, I’ll generally even wait for five or more. Taking out a room of one is a really inefficient use of time and RT for any character with reasonable AoE abilities.
I ignore rooms with 2 or fewer as a rule myself
I'll attack anything that moves. Whether there's 1 or 30 in a room. I don't worry much about efficiency, it takes all of 2 minutes to fry at post cap. I spend way more time sitting at a node waiting for absorption than I'll ever spend hunting. I have to assume anyone that does prolong hunts is farming for loot. I tend to only do that when I pop one of the freebie loot boost we get for login rewards.
hunting single critters is also less mana efficient is part of it
Yeah, it’s even more true for casters, but even on a melee character, give me that sweet room full of creatures to Whirling Blade+Clash katar spam through. 😄
There are definitely different games being played in the same hunting grounds of gemstone 😄
Well. This valravan certainly took his shot.

@sharp raptor Thanks for the tip bud
You skinned the warg packmother, yielding an alabaster warg pelt.
Or chasing those bounty bumps. I need those hits otherwise I’m absorbing 29-30xp a pulse.

Looks like valravns are feeling frisky today in every instance
Crazy that 1 damage caused a rank 3 head wound. The crit padding must kick in first and then the damage padding factors in.
Dang. Took down a Wyrm but didn't get to check if I could skin it because I was in panic SYM RETURN mode because half my squad died 😆 . Finished him off with the end of a barrage and zooped too quickly
Nothing to skin. They turn to statues
Like the weeping angels of old.
Angels in GS dont cry. They turn into hiroshima-styled shadow burns on the ground
You peer intently at the winternight sapphire as you turn it in your fingers, meticulously inspecting for flaws. You estimate that the winternight sapphire is of exceptional quality and worth approximately 16900 silvers.
No wonder these things are so rare. I don't think that's even fully purified since it turned into an orb. 🤣
Stormcloud alexandrites are pretty juicy too
Those look remarkably similar to how I see the creatures.
Except the valravn has eyes!
One of the beauties of Rawknuckle’s chalk drawings is that …he doesnt really know!
I assumed Rawknuckle would sound more like me on a bad day.
The disir is so pretty
That narrator isnt rawknuckle though!
This guy caught me .1 second perfect.... skill diff
You are now in an offensive stance.

DEAD
I blame disabler review for this malarky!
Died in my first hunt of 2024..... not a good sign
You at max dodge?
yeah
Man o man I love HW!
In the thanot strongbox you see a petrified warg fang, a piece of coppery titanite, a cushion-cut diamond earcuff, an oblong platinum nugget, a metal wand and some silver coins.
It’s worth the danger of getting sliced into a pastrami sandwich by those draugrs.
I have a question on volley with something riding a mastadon. I keep getting this when I do it
>volley
You can't reach a brawny gigas shield-maiden while she is riding the armored battle mastodon!
>```
Of course I have an alias setup for volley volley = weapon volley
Also the mastadons are getting their freak on
```A heavily armored battle mastodon rides a heavily armored battle mastodon in, the mastodon limping with every great step.```
Gotta make them new spawns somehow
That's been fixed (again).
Which one? The mastadon’s pda or the volley?
Mastodons.
Polychromatic tentacles wrap about you as you chant the phrase for Mental Dispel...
Your spell is ready.
>cast #14757073
You gesture at a chaotic spatial anomaly.
The Spatial anomaly collapses in upon itself, rapidly dwindling away.
Cast Roundtime 2 Seconds.
Cast Roundtime 2 Seconds.```These do the weird double cast RT messaging too (like globes/rifts used to in ME)
Yup.
You have indicated that you will not accept bounties on Ascended creatures.
Do I have to go all the way back to Icemule just to change this so I can get a bounty in Hinterwilds?
you can go fry, get 8 gigas fragments and just teleport back both ways if you don't wanna ride the thing
It looks like the ascension ban/whatever removes the ban commands were never added to the wiki.
Or if you have FWI access you can switch it there too.
Hey so...just asking. Are disir still able to drop feathers or was that turned off?
I got a plume today, so I assume feathers still exist too
I’ve found one in the past month or so.
awesome. thanks. yeah, I find lots valravn quills. I'm up to like 6. but only one disir feather
I want to say I tried this and it doesn’t work because there are no FWI ascension creatures to begin with so that AG doesn’t recognize the command
Oh, I’ve absolutely switched it there. Didn’t want to trek back to Icemule (easy as the portal is).
Yeah I just tried, that does work, neat
Got one disir feather last week. I get more quills than feathers on account of hunting 2 zones with valravn and only one with disir.
Is there a specific kind of sanctuary that could maybe make spell 1004 not work, and if so, could it maybe be applied to the Pipe Den? No reason
Great example of why having every room in a town be a node would be wonderful
As you move to attack a bloody halfling cannibal, the cannibal shrinks away from you, baring sharpened teeth as she darts into the shadows!
Roundtime: 4 sec.```
Some weird messaging here. I'm TWC.
Hrm.
Song of noise would do the trick, but prevent anyone else from casting as well.
Are the debuffs associated to hypothermia listed somewhere in the wiki? (Assuming there are debuffs from stacked hypothermia)
There aren't debuffs. You just take progressively more damage and, eventually, actual wounds.
Ok thanks; trying to figure out why my AS drops ~30pts at times when fighting gigas.
Something weird with the snowblind diamonds...
put dia in my beak
You add a brilliant snowblind diamond to the contents of the blue glass beaker.
put beaker in locker
You place the blue glass beaker in the locker, and it quickly disappears.
rummage chest ingredient snowblind diamond
You rummage through a deep chest, but can't seem to locate any ingredient like that.
get blue bea from chest
You remove a dark blue glass beaker containing brilliant snowblind diamonds from in a deep chest.
(tried this using brilliant diamond as well)
Same issus with the "spruce green emerald" as well.
They aren’t marked as alchemy ingredients yet. There’s another thread, but I think the short answer is replace ingredient with for
Thank you! I'm so used to using "ingredient" with any gem I didn't even think about if they were applicable for alchemy or not.
Are there any plans to detail the lore around the Hinterwilds in the near future?
Here in Q1 I plan on doing a bit of retooling to Myharl's backstory (and finish up several parts of his wiki I never got around to). He was originally from an unnamed nomadic tribe of kindred in the deserts of the Southron Wastes (based on details/descriptions from the time when the area was accessible via the first Wave Dancer), but with the introduction of the Maeramil clan, and the nomadic Firewalkers, there is official lore that works for the character now. Since the Hinterwilds plays a huge part in where his character development has gone (he is very much the dark, brooding kindred wyrmslayer from the Endless Winter, cursed and worn grim by the dark magic there), would love to have something to riff off of rather than bending bits of gathered lore from the environs to fit a concept.
there's been a decent amount of lore about the area released, but a lot has been released in different forms during icemule RP events
Gigas being kinda precurser giantkin, the pits and kinda corruption of the gigas being related to the body of Zerroth that rests above it in a dead/not dead state. The disir are basically valkerie's that help sheppard the dead, the ones you fight being ones that have gone insane due to the above. The undersawmers being the larval states of the wyrms. Halfling village there established by a far ancestor of the Dabbings family of halflings.
The halflings being afflicted with curses that turn the cannibals and then into wendigos (this is all pretty on par for wendigo lore it's pretty terrifying)
There's a connection to the rainbow road place, which is very much kinda a bifrost analog, and likely leads to other dimensions or such in the same essence of asgard or vahalla.
you'll want to watch my next youtube video. going to try hard to get it done tonight
I'm not sure how much of all that is actually compiled anywhere, but there's been a good amount released just not nessecarily in wiki articles
Yep, absolutely. I've kept pretty close tabs on the related events, and the podcast Auchand did with Milax (a couple years ago, I think). I'm just curious if there's going to be a more established lore forthcoming. I can't say a lot without potential spoilers, but theres... a lot going on there that is shrouded in mystery.
fwiw, Auchand has said the rainbow river is not a bifrost analogue. I thought so to, but he said def not. If you stand in there awhile, it's more of a great lore dive
hmm ok, I know it's the origin of those tablets of life and death, and where the disir kinda live/exist
For me, I kind of like when not everything has answers. I think too many answers ruins the glamour of a place.
I also think there's a lot left open, as it'll be used in potential future storylines
The place is a masterclass in hunting ground design imo. There are details in there right down to unique voln kill messaging for some critters.
I'm also curious what was going on with those reputation messages from the gigas villages for awhile there
I think the most impressive part of the HW for me is the internal consistency of the place. Everything in it and every critter in it being where it is makes sense
Kind of the same really — to an extent. I intend to bolt Myharl's story pretty firmly in the Hinterwilds, though, so having some structure to build around would be helpful. I intend to do it in any case, but the framework would make sure I don't deviate too far from lore.
Yeah, the faction thing has me curious. Makes me think the Gigas are about to go to war or something.
The Wyrmslayer gets a mention in my next video. I'm pretty proud of it so far. Has a lot of production value and time spent working on it
Yeah, it's not an intentional Bifrost reference, but I don't mind people perceiving it that way.
Wait til you see my next vid
There are some very intentional nods to Robin Hobb's Realm of the Elderlings in the Hinterwilds.
Stone dragons, magical pillars allowing transportation across vast distances, etc.
The River of Color is somewhere between her metaphysical 'river' of the Skill, her magic system, and the weird space between worlds used in Skimming in Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time.
I try not to rip anything off wholesale even when paying homage, though. Wyrms turn to stone when they die, rather than being constructs carved out of memory stone like in her books. The obelisks tie into Navigator/Chronomage lore and have largely become their own metastory in GS.
The obelisks tie into Navigator/Chronomage lore That's very cool. The first "quest" / short storyline I participated in (like almost 25 years ago) was literally with a group questing to locate the obelisk of the Navigators. Love fun unintentional nods like that.
Everything started with the obelisk in Danjirland.
HI all. I just released my next Youtube video, which is the first in a series I'm calling 'Visual Vignettes'. It is an IC tour of the Hinterwilds from a Roleplay perspective. I think you'll enjoy it!
https://discord.com/channels/226045346399256576/1194494936175882341
Senzai Reise called the Wyrmslayer the "Wyrms-layer" and that made my night.
This made me really happy. I had forgotten how much joy I felt in designing the Hinterwilds.
I've said its a masterclass of a hunting ground. Its why i picked it
Once I'm done with a project, I tend to move on, but there was a lot of love in the lore there. I'm glad it comes through.
(Cold River Fishing, though, is on my project list.)
It definitely does. Especially if you look for it. One of the thing I love about using AI art is that I can quickly visualize things that the written word I struggle with. Somehow, the AI is better a drawing the words in the rooms than I am at imagining them
I'd say most of it is pretty accurate, tbh.
Sparkfinger looks a little more like Donald Sutherland than I expected, but otherwise... 😛
yeah, that was harder. I didn't want to turn him into like a cartoon lunatic halfling.so I just kind of went with halfing alchemist on that one.
next one is likely to be moonsedge. Or Sanctum.
I'll have to keep rolling out Ascension areas.
I do think I'd like the next one to be more like Hinterwilds in scope and scale, which means it's probably not on the table for this year.
Oh, I'm going to do other stuff to. Towns. And pay event grounds. Old hunting grounds I just have a fondness for
Sounds like Teras goes into lava next for Auchand. He has 1000 ideas no doubt
I know this is a late response but incase anyone didn't realize it you can also make the change on FWI if you have access and not have to go all the way back to IMT
Two words. Wildwood isle.
Teehee.
make evil gnomes with clockwork beasts that take over cavernhold, with steam attacks, so much steam
Interesting, she carried a stylish soot black belt on her.```
Uh oh, they're training. Disir-fu sounds scary
can you imagine if they wooped out the old school fu? LOL
Disir are just old PCs who went demonic?
It had a tuft of wendigo hair.```Well that's new.
Hey nice! Lets goooo with the rare drops👏
I got 6 in one hunt I don't think these are rare lol. They are apparently alchemy raegents, consignment buys them for almost nothing
Lol. My sadness is profound
So, the next question is... what can they be used for. New alchemy ingredients likely means new recipe. Hinterwilds specific alchemy ingredients could mean something fun for the Hinterwilds.
make your own wendigo from a local halfling
There are HW foraging bounties that are impossible to complete, right? Like alyssum (spelling?) and a few others? Please tell me I’m not crazy
There are some I've found no way to get, yeah. I assume it has to do with ||the sybil somehow||.
I doubt it, honestly. I've been in that room(s) a few times and I don't think there is anything forageable in there.
I believe the bounty system uses the room data to determine what herbs are available for each bounty. Maybe Auchund has as secret garden room on high that we can't access where he looks down upon all the foragers fruitlessly searching for x, cackling gleefully all the while.
Or maybe not?
i'm due for a sybil solo run when i find my next disir feather. I'll make sure to forage sense when in there
It shouldn't but I will check.
That would be pretty interesting if there were still some hidden rooms where some of these herbs are. Buttercup is another one that can’t be found, I believe (I do a lot of foraging bounties)
I'm still convinced there are unexplored rooms because of the wyrm behavior observed over the years. 😄 From obvervation I also feel like they are located off the Angargreft somehow. What I can't decide is whether I think the area is intentionally cut off for stoylines, unreleased area, etc. or if there is an unsolved puzzle we haven't discovered yet (glances at the hinges and dragon altar).
I always assumed the burrow in angargreft has unfound secrets
I basically never go into the burrow because it’s only oozes and undansormrs. Yuck.
Wouldnt surprise me to learn we find interior angargreft rooms to coincide with charms release
I just realized poor Rawknuckle's wife got turned into a Wendigo. 😰
With shudder, Rawknuckle shakes his head. "Sometimes I hear my wife calling from the woods. She begs, pleads for me to come look for her. I know it's them. They're always hungry."```
Not necessarily.
They mimic voices perfectly.
Check all the Wendigo for her tattoo.
It's a butterfly on her lower back. 😦
It appears the wendigos have stopped shedding.
Anyone else with 1x skinning and 1x first aid notice a big difference lately in: a) odds of successfully skinning HW critters, and b) skin quality?
I previously would have something like a 90% success rate selling skins for “fair” quality bounties. It’s down closer to 50% now. And fine and exceptional rates have also gone way down.
Feels like something changed a few weeks ago… I have no hard data, but I do a ton of bounties so I’m fairly confident I’m right about this 🙂
I haven't kept a close eye on things, as I just skin and sell in bulk after each hunt, but I have noticed the overall silvers generated seem to have decreased a bit, I was regularly pulling 25-30k+ per run, and that's falling into the 18-20k range now, and that's at 2x/2x. So, something might have changed? I just skin with my warsword, so have never worried about value, and just keep selling until a skinning task is complete. I thought maybe valravns just weren't spawnning as much or somtehing.
Yes. And values are way down
Ive been banging the gong since mid december about it.
Okay glad it’s not just me. Honestly I care less about the values and more about the skin quality, since it has become a real nuisance to do skinning bounties lately. I’ve got 2x first aid and survival on my training radar for this year, but will be a while before I can get that done
Going for the eyes on hinterboars used to ruin the mane’s quality, but aiming for the necks wouldn’t (though it seemed counterintuitive). I’ve noticed that recently switched, so that the eyes are now a better target than the neck.
I’ve been aiming at the chest for the hinterboars and mastodons for AG tasks. Hmm, I learned something new
And... they are shedding again. Now I'm curious if there's any rhyme or reason to the phenomenon.
Where you aim, if you can aim, makes a big difference.
One day. One fine day I'll actually fully purify an ebon winternight sapphire without it turning into an orb along the way, unraveling the secrets of its max value.
raise fist
Reagents [69]: a tuft of wendigo hair (69). Can probably craft my own now
I think there was a bug overall going on that was making anything with a regent skin type drop, drop 100% of the time, in the inner weild of the red forest, the dire wolves there 100% were dropping eyes too every kill, which is not normal
That burrow area with the undansorms and oozes has an interesting number of overlayed Norse runes when viewed from the map. I wouldn’t be surprised if it held undiscovered secrets.
Pardon, Was responding to this post.
Totally agree. Lots of interesting things there
Touching the untouched cloth is one of the little enjoyments of playing in a text based world (in the burrow area)
Eldurhaart is shaped like the Norse rune for shield, Ojandhaart like the rune of heritage, Fjallarhaart like the rune of wealth (lol, and my favorite area), and etc. A lot of care went into design/synergy and is my favorite hunting ground in the game.
It really is.
Just curious, has anyone checked for loresongs? Especially on like the hinges in the gigas villages, the dragon altar, the artifacts in the pit, or the tapestry in the burrows? I have a pocket bard for my shop, but they won't survive the Hinterwilds outside of Cold River. If there's a bard about who's frequently beyond the long snow, would love to know. I'm still convinced there's a another puzzle up there (as well as undiscovered areas) around the Angargreft.
I’ll loresing to them when I get home. Do I sing at items in the room or is there a syntax to reveal history of the whole room ?
What's the wendigo hair for? The alchemist consignment shop will buy them for a pittance @cloud orchid
no one knows. they just started showing up (along with at least one other random alchemy-looking thing) and no one's found any rhyme or reason to it that i've seen. Auchand said he didn't add the wendigo tufts making it extra weird.
Yeah. Its a mystery
I'm thinking the items directly, but I think there is a way to do a room-wide loresong... I'm not sure how, sorry. If you want I can make a list of locations of stuff that looks like it might be part of a puzzle.
Edit: Just info from the wiki:
>sense
You sense the threads of history resonating within a wrought iron gate.
Roundtime: 3 sec.
vs.
>sense
You do not sense any particular histories resonating in the room.
---
Then you can target a loresong with "loresing ::[target] *loresong rhyme*"
So, sounds like you can just sense in those rooms to check for loresongs.
What's the other thing? A couple of the new gems read as treasure instead of gems, but I don't think I've noticed any other alchemy item drop. Want to be sure I didn't miss something. I've been collecting them all.
I don't know if it's dropped in HW specifically but "a gold-green essence shard"
Oh neat, yeah, not seen one of those drop in the HW yet. Have it highlighted now though so I can keep an eye out for it. Thanks!
haven't seen that
Alc examine on raven's wing obsidian returned "nothing odd," instead of "doesn't look like anything that could be useful for alchemy."
thats just a gem
Right. But most gems get the not useful response, except for the ones that are useful.
I have not put loresongs on things in the Hinterwilds.
My excuse is that I did the whole Hinterwilds project solo, so by the end I basically collapsed into a bucket like Odo.
Solid reference Auch!
Liquid, actually.
Link with me.
@sharp raptor wyrm?
Oh! On my way.
We killed the first wyrm, but the undead wyrm that spawned got away.
@sharp raptor round 2?
Yes! Did you see where it landed, I was afk for about 5 minutes. 😄
Just doing the math, that one was close to being fell. A few less swarmy targets there at the end and it would have dropped. But had to heal, and it flew off in like the 3 minutes I was gone. 😄
oh yeah, 5 underarmor scale bounty took 5 minutes for [You have earned 4352 bounty points, 715 experience points, and 4613 silver.]
2 in a row, wahooo! [You have earned 4110 bounty points, 825 experience points, and 5173 silver.]
Damn… do all skinning bounties in HW award that many points?
if you can stomach needing 9 exceptional valravn skins....
been trying to skin Hinterboars all morning....I see what you mean.
What the. The highest I've ever gotten for any bounty is like 2500. How the heck are you breaking 4k. Edit: Okay I guess I do have one for 4075. Still, crazypants
lol. Who slipped the wyrm caffeine?
Is he being stronk? 😛
lol. A bit. Behavior seemed about the same, but was like someone swapped out its talons for claidhs. I haven't been critted that many times that fast in decades. 😄 And that's with VHC/VHD padding plate, armor reinforcement, and like 50% DF Redux.
disir can no longer be animated 😦
you could... always let us animate them again if you wanna test that though hah
Grundael takes the valravn plume, examines it carefully, then hands you 625 silvers.
You ask Grundael if he would like to buy an inky black valravn plume.
Grundael takes the valravn plume, examines it carefully, then hands you 725 silvers.
Grundael takes the valravn plume, examines it carefully, then hands you 525 silvers.```
I love loot pressure and skin pressure and all the other pressures of one player's hyperactivity reducing the gains of another player...
Yeah, never been a fan of loot pressure. It's nonsensical. It rewards the wrong kind of behavior while penalizing others who play by the rules. Lootcap I get. Loot pressure is a system skewed in favor of distracted scripters. In fact, I haven't had anyone explain in any way that remotely makes sense why we need both. MA I guess? It can be frustrating to pop an ascension box from the Hinterwilds, only to find 600 silver and a tigerfang crystal. 😄
Random thought, just for kicks: we're already tracking how much loot a character earns (for soft and hard lootcap), Why not make a halfway point between zero and softcap where loot pressure doesn't apply? That way the little guys don't get slammed by the farmers. I think it was reported that the majority of characters are earning under 2mil a month, that's low enough that it wouldn't entice MA farmers; they're going to hit lootcap before the month ends anyway.
GS is the game of perverse incentives
And yup. Median earnings are 1.1m (and slightly under that now according to Wyrom recently). I like this better than what we have now for sure
Or really, just simplify all that and do a loot version of Lumnis. First 2mil silvers earned in a month has a constant minor loot boost applied.
I like this idea but it would probably have to be at the account level so account-major-loot boost until first X lootcap reached.
The only explanation as to why loot pressure remains is that removing it and adjusting nothing else would result in a large influx of silver generation overall and that is not a goal to allow the bottom 95% to acquire more silver wealth.
This would be a loot nerf for anybody not hunting in the most populated zones
How would it be a nerf? Curious, if there's zero pressure you'd get the same loot as normal, if there is pressure, at least for the first couple mil silvers or whatnot, you'd ignore that pressure, then it'd go back to as is today. So it'd only help people really that don't even come close to soft cap
Everyone else it should be the same
Because pressure increases loot in areas that are hunted less than average
This is the key thing about pressure!
but that wouldn't change? this is just kinda upping the floor in some areas not lowering any others
i think the point is as written, it wouldn't. if you disable loot pressure affecting a character, then they get nelemar loot everywhere. the poor areas are the base amounts, richer areas are receiving a bonus because of loot pressure. Not the other way around.
it's a bit of semantic argument. "characters should better loot on average for the first x silver a month" could happen through whatever means. i think tikba was just pointing out that in the past (too lazy to dig up the post but i remember this also) we were told pressure is a bonus not a penalty.
The hinterwilds is supposed to have a built in extra value on loot. My 525 silver skin wants to know what the actual non-boosted value of this would be, cause its pathetic.
a period "where loot pressure doesn't apply" would reduce loot for anybody not hunting in the most populated zones, because loot pressure is benefiting them
Equal to a major loot boost at level+15
Wyrom revealed recently that the skin or template being used by the creature is a big part of this as well which I think explains why some areas that are never hunted are still dirt poor because they share a template with other creatures.
This might explain why moonsedge is poor if those creatures share a template with any other creature in the game that is heavily hunted and why bandits are always poor because they share a template across the entire game if I understood his comments correctly.
Bandits are poor because they keep trying to hijack PCs, who (according to #1190341191074594846 ) are also all poor. They need to start hunting zones with better loot so that we can then hijack them!
I was more thinking loot pressure would be the same, just that characters would have a "buff" on them for that time
That’s totally different from what was proposed!
Yep, that's why I suggested instead to simplify have "the first 2mil silvers earned in a month has a constant minor loot boost applied". This sort of spins off the treasure improvement thread, but was relevant here to the HW conversation. The fact is, we are looking for ways to make treasure more appealing to the vast majority of the player base... not being penalized for an area being farmed seems like it would be pretty great for 95% of the player base. I'm quite sure that the 1-2 mil a month earned by the majority of players isn't the excess silver we're worried about draining for game silver, so making the process of getting there a bit more rewarding seems like a win to me.
That’s something I suggested too actually haha but wyrom’s view has consistently been that that would be an enormous increase to silver generation (because the average player would spend almost all their time in the boost zone) and thus would be bad for the economy, even if it reduced the gap between low engagement and high engagement players
Basically it would work too well
That perspective tracks with the recent push to alternative currency and normalization and devaluing silver. Problem is, that isn't a solution, it just kicks the can further down the road since the top 5% of earners simply create a secondary market to trade currency. In the end, with that pathway, the top earners are only really affected by loot cap, while the rest of the player base feels penalized for the actions of those top earners because they never even get close. There has to be a bottom up redistribution if you want to normalize the value of engagement. Limiting the top tier was step one, step two is going to have to involve some sort of boosting lower earners or the problem just persists (albeit scaled).
A one time YOLO silver drain. HESS wagon outside of a pay event, all the same services, transmutes, etc. Put a silver number on it and let us all go absolutely ham for a couple weeks. Just one time. Then let loot cap work once everything is even.
You know, as a method for slaying the spectre of wealth overhead haunting the game, I feel like this would be pretty viable, the stipulation being that the services were attuned as not to transfer that overhead into the secondary market. The underlying issue likely preventing it being the impact to SIMU sales for alternative currency.
I'm quite sure that the 1-2 mil a month earned by the majority of players isn't the excess silver we're worried about draining for game silver
I actually wouldn't agree with that at all. GM and/or Wyrom comments on everything from event boxes to OSA to NPC locksmiths to raffle tickets to gemstones (the post-cap system) to ranger trinket potions to the enhancive reroller has led me to believe that the median earner is exactly what staff is trying to keep from spiraling out of control.
(Edit: and I know people might wonder "which comments?", so I'm looking them up again.)
I'm mostly being tongue in cheek but I just find it funny where it's basically, "How do we drain silver?" "Give me something to buy." "It's a mystery."
My perspective: It's spiraling the wrong direction. That median is dropping. The solution to too much silver, in my opinion, isn't to make the poor more poor.
Yep. Especially in a system where resources are literally limitless. 😄
Needed for Silver Drain: a solution that works as well as the grand auctions, but without the dev investment for so many unique items, but also doesn't impact SIMU event sales.
Okay, here's most of what I had in mind:
"It's tough to touch the top 5% in terms of their individual wealth, but the bottom 95% are pretty wiped out " and "someone who makes only a million silver a month probably struggles with keeping much if they interact with most game systems" I mean, that just kind of says it all for me. I feel like I couldn't have made my point any better myself. lol
Yeah, but the difference is that Wyrom seems to be considering this a success ("a good job at keeping silver relevant on the low end").
Oh yeah, absolutely, I totally get that's the perspective. To clarify: I don't see 95% of your player base struggling to play the game as being a desirable goal. Finding ways to make engagement more rewarding while finding ways that provide fun opportunities for everyone is a perspective I'd much rather see embraced (and honestly, I feel like this is something the staff works very hard towards, the treasure reward system just isn't very good at it is very bad at it).
The only way to actually affect the top silver is with inflation, where yes you raise the amount everyone makes at the low end, but then also proportionally raise silver costs, which would devalue silver but also make it easier to make closer to what a farmer can make.
I don't necessarily think this is a good idea, but it is a key to real world economies.
Found the raffle ticket comment I was thinking of, from during the great explosion of EG 2020 Drama:
#ebon-gate message
Raffle prices being higher is expected to be a trend along with services and even off the shelf items. We have had the cost of raffles and services drop over the years to basically nothing and this has contributed to the idea that silver has no value.```
(I'm like 90% sure this was a GM, though I forget who exactly)
All this said, circling back to on-topic...
You estimate that the total value of your valravn plumes is approximately 17500 silvers.```
```You turn the undansormr scaless over in your hands, meticulously inspecting for flaws. You estimate that of the 6 scaless in your bundle, all of them are magnificent quality.
You estimate that the total value of your undansormr scaless is approximately 21600 silvers.```
...from just last night, as I haven't unloaded yet. I'm a good skinner, but Hinterwilds loot is still fantastic compared to most places. There are extremely few areas in the game where you could get a skin worth 1750 from a creature that can also drop boxes!
That's with 2x fa and survival I assume
Yes.
Yeah, my experience has been about 500-1000ish skins from undansormrs with just survival. But it's better than nothing
And not bad all things considered as that's basically every one of them. I
I think this is kind of spot on. Redistribution of wealth is about buying power, not a number. The more narrow the gap, the healthier the economy. Loot cap was the first step, but regulating for the top tier by itself doesn't accomplish the goal, the bottom tier has to gain some of that buying power. The market tends to find a middle ground (see cost to participate and secondary market values) within that gap... the problem is currently that the wealth gap is so wide that the "middle ground" still tends to be pushed out of reach of the bottom tier. That leaves two viable options for the majority of the player base if they want to participate: 1) the market none shall talk about here, or 2) mindlessly farming.
Watching statements like this are the bits that grind my gears. Tap dancing past the graveyard, as it were.
Congrats, we bankrupted most players. Now we’ll keep them that way. What a success! Here is your 100k EG raffle ticket price, just make sure you hand us $35 dollars first
Absolutely nothing has improved for the vast majorty of players because of the loot cap.
The bitter irony is that if median earnings are falling (they are according to Wyrom) and some folks still loot cap routinely, the gap is only growing, not shrinking.
I don’t see how trying to attack the wealth gap in GS is going to be productive. Wealthier real life players, or players willing to sink more cash into simucoins, are always going to have the best stuff. Even if silvers get redistributed, it has no impact on players’ effective buying power.
Also… we should probably move this chat over to the treasure improvement thread, right?
Probably
Silver's (the number) don't need to be redistributed, buying power does. It's just at the moment those are one and the same. Part of that may be finding ways to make desirable items/services more affordable without oversaturating the market. Ultimately, if the rewards don't provide benefit, they're not rewards, they're a requirement to play (i.e. interacting with the system). A game without rewards is... well... boring and has very low engagement value. Edit: living paycheck-to-paycheck isn't really anyone's idea of fun.
Also, yeah, convo veered a bit off topic. 😄 But as HW is an ascension hunting ground with top tier loot, it was an organic conversation.
I’m not so sure I agree that relative buying power needs to change, but I do believe that more interesting things in the treasure system (with realistic drop rates for casual players) and more non-transferable stuff given as treasure system rewards would make more of the “normal 95%” of players more satisfied
Maybe some of this could apply only to Ascension areas, to give people who aren’t super silver focused a little extra incentive to come play around in HW or the other new areas
Yeah, there definitely needs to be something. I think it's a little less about the "haves and have nots" and a little bit more about the perception of what people get in return for investing their time at a reasonable level. The two are intrinsically related (wealth distribution and the treasure system), but they're really two different conversations. I feel like the #1190341191074594846 thread is leaning much more in the direction of "making loot more fun" instead of "solving the wealth gap/silver drain issue." I haven't pinged over there about it because I feel like it could derail what has been a really productive and engaging thread.

didn't think he had that much AS before... (nm regarding AS, prior logs show that for me, gets boosted by that cold rage thing I think)
Right, nor all the weighting on it's attack... or that many attacks. That's all before I could slap the macro for berserk. 😄
hmm, maybe I ought to have some 412 wands handy
That might help. I'm not sure how that can be fought against. Groups are still limited to less than five, and with volleys at that level pretty much any direct square attack is going to result in a stun or drop 5 seconds later with the next volley, and risk getting locked out from everything with sympathy at the start of that next round. Elemental attack spells get negated by it's barrier, it's immune to crits, immune to elemental flares as long as it has mana, tackle and sleep keep it down for about 2 seconds, and it can't be stunned or limbed (even beheaded it just keeps going). Can be rooted, swarms cause it to run around inanely fast avoiding them. DOT is ineffective because it can "repair" it's wounds pretty quick as part of its actions. Only remaining tactic I can think of is: hide/ambush/ping maybe while just hoping to avoid sympathy. We'll see!
I suppose if it's got claid weighting now, just gotta have 800 DS, so perhaps back to fighting in forward or advanced stance, and needing to keep the swarms at bay
I'm not sure how to calculate exactly what it has as far a weighting. I just know the only other time he gets crit and stunned that way has been getting beaned by a claidh. Myharl is built to take hits, so when something phases him, it's an exception.

Now all the sympathy will come exclusively from the bereaved at your your funeral when it mstrikes you with claidhfingers every 2.8 seconds
If sympathy really is gone, then it might be doable. The tactic I was using was predicated on having to work around that, but if it can be rooted then stance danced without the threat of all control of a character taken away after a gaze, then it might come down to developing timing.
unfortunately even in defensive it would hit me with 806 AS, I can only barely get close to 800 DS with wall of force up, so while I could probably chain root it with sigil set procs and 1 second casts, don't think I'd live long enough haha
hmm, I realized 412 is now much more difficult to apply since it is subject to new auto-success level check... so much for that strategy
I mean, I like the idea of a wyrm so powerful it takes a concerted game plan to bring it down.
for sure, wyrm shouldn't be too easy, doubt it was intended to ever be solo-able
I think FoF should make it pretty doable now with a group.
Wyrms do not skillburst any longer when confronted with a group over 5 people, but there will be a mechanic that scales after 5 to prevent huge powermobs from taking them down.
I agree to an extent. I think the problem you run into is limited population and narrow windows of opportunity. From the moment you see a wyrm in flight, you have about a 15-20 minute window before it flies away. The Hinterwilds has a limited population, and of that population a number of them are unresponsive. I think it should require a group to take down absolutely, but would be worried if it were built specifically for any sort of spread.
Ping me when you see the next one, I'll try and go with you.
Awesome, If anyone wants to give it a run, another one should be taking flight in the next 30-minutes or so. I'm camped in Cold River village center under watching the skies.
Does FoF even work on the wyrm, given how much higher level it is than players?
I'm wondering if the update reset the clock on the wyrm. It's unusually late.

yep, gonna take an assist to fix I think
Woof. I will continue to avoid the wyrm as I had been
well looks like my wraith windows and such are updating again, not sure what triggered the fix or the break
Yeah, I totally get that, and I feel like you're probably correct. The creation of the wyrm was serendipity for Myharl. His backstory has been him seeking dragons since inception. Kor'thriss (the shadowy dragon) has always been his "reason" for travelling to the Landing to establish himself as an adventurer. The legends of Koar being one of the last Great Drakes prompted him to be a devout follower for years (before he lost his faith), and his backstory has always been his family being slaughtered by mysterious dragons and him seeking to find them an take retribution (a challenging path to tread in game lore since at one point even the mention of "dragons" was forbidden). So, the moment that wyrms came into being, it was going to be his thing. I retroactively replaced "dragon" with "wyrm" and ran with it. I find it kind of fun that they are one of the toughest critters in game. It's frustrating sometimes a lot of times, but I like that they are a real threat, because it's provided opportunity to really lean into the Wyrmsalyer role in a way that a run-of-the-mill critter never would have.
my thoughts, and why I try to give feedback, is we know that this will be a gateway boss to unlock the charm system, which means everyone will need to do it at some point
Yeah I just don't expect the wyrm as-is now will be the same as when charms come out. Even if it is, I further assume its just 'you got tag credit, job done'
fyi, this messaging after wyrm death was monsterbold Nearby, you spot several gigas in pale robes stitched with golden wyrm scales. One of them nods approvingly to you, and beckons as if expecting you to follow. Without waiting to see if you comply, the vast figures retreat from view toward the settlement of Eldurhaart. searched all rooms in Eldurhaart and found nothing out of order - I certainly suspect (hope?) that's some sort of quest messaging associated with charms
Next time you see it go to the dragon shrine in Eldurhaart. Hope maybe we can catch the next wyrm. I'd love to see if there's more to that now. I've been leaving dragon-themed statues on the altar there for a long while.
shrine with the altar right? that was the first place I checked
Yep, that's the one. Nothing? Hrmm... I wonder if it's like the first step. Going to go take a look at the shrine again to see if maybe there's some sort of hint there.
yep nothing, didn't wait long either, was likely within 1 - 2 minutes after wyrm went down
Yeah that message sounds a lot like what I would expect this hypothetical gemcharm quest to look like
I wonder if we can preorder the quest by killing the wyrm now haha
and perhaps to answer the other obvious question, I still have a NO for big game hunter
Pre-loading my wyrm quest DLC
This is not a stealth charms release. 😛
Besides, they're Gemstones now!
but maybe it's going to be the charm (gemstone) quest soon?!
The gigas of Eldurhaart will have to wait a little while longer (they won't bug you after a wyrm death, at least for the time being.)
All I'm saying is I went to the altar and prayed, and a berserker came in wielding an ivory white sword trying to behead me. 😄 I have an ivory white sword now.
Thanks for letting us know it (whatever it is) isn't live yet.
just another mention that Hinterwilds is really and honestly the gold standard of hunting grounds in Gemstone. The amount of details in it and the self-fullfilling lore loops are outstanding.
Very few hunting grounds in the game 'make sense'. The hinterwilds feels very organic and natural, with all of it painting a very clear narrative image of the place.
Feels like a place designed around lore that happens to be a hunting ground, rather than designed as a hunting ground with bits of lore glued to it.
yeah. good way of putting it. While I was doing my video on it, it became easy to create a narrative framework for the script. Alot of other famous hunting grounds that wouldn't work.

I don't recognize that messaging
Yeah, I've seen that messaging before, when there's undansormr web floating about.
Ah. makes sense. I was doing a Greatchamber yolo
The entrance stands, framed by a pair of colossal red stone pillars, at the apogee of a crescent-shaped walk that curves along the interior of the fane. Towering gigas statues, male and female, stand with battleaxes in hand in alcoves along either wall. Their faces are unwelcoming and their postures unmistakably aggressive. Ruddy stone steps breach the wall to the north, heading precipitously downward into stygian shadow. You also see a quivering sanguine oozeling that appears dead, a withered shadow-cloaked draugr that is webbed, a cloud of acidic mist, a quivering sanguine oozeling that appears dead, a colossal boreal undansormr, a gleaming golden aegis, a quivering sanguine ooze that appears dead, an eyeless black valravn that appears dead and a shining winged disir that appears dead.
Obvious exits: east, west``` iykyk
The great chamber is a ton of fun, until a disciple unleashes a temporal anomaly. I have no answer for those yet.
they hit you? They almost always miss me
They do, about 50/50? I'm a berserker so I'm running around in offensive, but yeah, the tentacles snag me sometimes. The disciples like to blow my limbs off too, but if I tackle them first they're not an issue.
Myharl a giant?
Yep, he is. Kindred kroderine soul warrior. Also have 404 bonus in dodge, and around 120 on agidex. Just seem to catch me still.
Probably part of it. I'm an elf masquerading as a human with my pumped up enhancive/asc AgiDex bonus. Curious if there is some hidden penalty for big race on that.

Yeah, it is.
So it's literally immune to the primary means of attack for an entire profession. LOL. Who's actually supposed to bother fighting this thing? Other than warriors?
I can't overstate how much I hope gemstones aren't gated behind this thing.
Rangers maybe, but yeah I agree it's far and away what I'd call fun or balanced as it is right now
I mean we know gemstones are gated behind it, thus it needs to be at least somewhat approachable for the other 75% of classes.
If we have to kill this thing to get into gemstones it needs like entirely redesigned.
Oh, nah, that's not doable. The one that dropped earlier seemed bugged. Like, the amount of damage required to take one down, we didn't even scratch it. That's Myharl as a 33mil, 1x cap worth of ascension, enhanced, KS warrior wearing very heavy padded plate, 5x added reinforcement, 50% DF redux, resistance, and boosters all going. I got off one volley before it dropped me. lol. It usually takes dozens of volleys.
That was 0% fun. Oh I can't damage this. Oh I've got 5 HP left-oh I'm dead now.
As it is, it reminds me of some old epic quest things in og ever quest where you needed to hire specific people to carry you through zones or parts so you could finish your quest
WTB 4 giantman KS warriors to group with while they carry me to the gemstones quest.
I have 35m exp no more exp is gonna make that experience go differently. Immune to UCS. Lol.
Hopefully the quest fight is at least in an arena without endless adds running in.
I haven’t attempted recently, and I’ve only downed the wyrm successfully like 3 times with my crew. Each of those attempts I lost at least 60% of my squad before winning. Truly brutal
how many folks are in your squad
At least you can damage it!
I recently just started hunting there.. forest mostly and really like it. Feels like home for Ox… can’t explain it but looking forward to hunting the entire area and growing “ older” there. Very much like the pipe den… getting the fireplace blazing and smoking a cigar after a hunt. Great atmosphere.
I had to cut one out because any group over 5 got everyone locked in perma RT. Sounds like there might’ve been a change to that, but my successes were with the ranger/warrior/cleric/bard/pally
That was honestly such an unenjoyable experience I think I'm just gonna log out.
It's been ages since I've hunted a wyrm, but do they still self-heal wounds?
Asking because if they don't self-heal wounds, it might be possible to cheese a win by strafing in and out of the room taking soft RT magic potshots until some of the wyrm's moves are off the table via injuries.
I think the wyrm in Plat might be busted. It hasn't spawned at all.
Doesn't sound like I'm missing much but I'd still like to give it a shot.
Oh hey just had to whine about it.
Yeah she got me.
They do. At least, as far as we know. I think this was the 2nd landing of the modified wyrm. Wasn't hurt enough to need to start doing that.
I've noted the last two drops have taken around 8 hours rather than the previous 6-ish. So that maybe a new thing. I'm not sure if the monuments persists longer as an indication or not.
I was actually doing alright until it decided to take off and then just spam me with acid breath
It sorta just chuffed at the hand crossbow, lol
Yeah, I'm going to have to do some pondering as to how to approach that if it's the new standard for a wyrm. Larger teams (more targets) might make it doable to outlast the RT locks. I don't MA and it can be difficult to find one or two folks wanting to hunt a wyrm at a time, not sure I'd be able to track down a crew. Maybe popshots from hiding (which I may just have to retrain for if nothing else works).
Intense, primal dread overwhelms you as a foreign intellect infringes upon the sanctity of your thoughts. Your awareness is pulled to the skies outside! anyone game?
lol. I was tapped out snagging Zs. How did the wyrm encounter go? I'm super interested in hearing how others are managing. Helps me come up with ideas about how to shift my methods of hunting them now.
was just me, and I accidentally ran in without activating my enhancives and sigils - so ended up bailing quite quickly for some healing

It is... I also think figured out something else causing it as well. It seems to happen when you get grabbed... but then a valravyn spooks you into another room stunned. another bug: symbol of sight counts as a spell for "max of 2" spells in HW. Other symbols like preservation and courage don't, so I'm assuming this is some sort of weird bug.

Awesome work! ⚔️ I've been considering popping a fixskills and trying a retrain for hide/ambushing to see if that works well for Myharl against the wyrm. Without spell buffs, I think the highest I can get his swing right now is about 780.
The trick was leaving the swarms alone and letting the wyrm fight with everything else. If it moved into a room with nothing in it I wouldn't follow. Lots of peering and planning the engagements.
Does hiding help to negate the new RT lock thing? The few direct approaches I've made since things changed I get about one volley off then get hit with SMR and RT just stacks. I never get out of it.
It makes it waste an action to search, so in that regard I would say yes. It'd also spot me EVERY time it searched, which wasn't always the case before.

Whelp, the wyrms belly is very full of gnomes
lol. Yeah, it's quite the battle. I don't even try now. Being a wyrmslayer is still very much a part of Myharl's story and RP, but mechanically it's just not viable any more. Proud he took down 132 of them over the past year and a half, bravely hunted hundreds more, researched and documented their behavior, and lead countless expeditions with other brave wyrm hunters (was an effort to get people interested and involved, but feel like we formed a nice little community of wyrmslayers up there). It was worth the effort and hundreds of deeds when it felt like an obtainable goal, but the gameplay just isn't fun any more. It's like killing my character just for the sake of doing it... which I did for a good while, but meh. I'll leave it to the whales who can afford the gear needed to take it down for now. Knowing this isn't the final iteration, when the gemstone system gets released and we end up with a 'final' version of the wyrms, I'll cycle back around to it and see how it flows and maybe consider a bit of retraining if it feels worthwhile.
2x hiding and ambush isn't going to help too much. Almost anything can point a 2xed warrior out at capped level from my experience, and critting a wyrm I don't think is even possible from what I've seen.
Honestly, I can't even enter hiding against a lot of creatures at that skill point.
Maybe if you ascension it up and enhance the ability you could see, but that's a pretty big investment on resources. I will say that hiding and ambush as an added option for giving your warrior another dynamic is both fun and useful at other times though.
Yep, exactly. Though as @Jaired pointed out, it does at least occupy a turn from the wyrm to do the search, so in a hunting group it could be a "distraction" for the wyrm, at least that's my theory, but decided to just wait until the final wyrm is in place to see what works best in the end.
Edit: Also because, even if that does help some, that feels incredibly meta to have to play the mechanics that way.
Perhaps stalk in, qstrike waylay, and run your butt off + repeat? that might at least spare damage until you catch an unlucky RT lock, but this assumes empty rooms around.
As it turns out, 860+ AS is hard to defend against! 😬
It's the round speed that gets me more than the overall strength. The combo between that AS level and the speed of the rounds is just murder, especially if you're sympathied or trapped in RT while it wallops you.
People wanted less open rolls so we fixed the glitch.
Same. What I run into now is... I'll get that initial volley of mstrike off, then almost imediately get RT locked with SMR, then eat the wyrm's mstrike with it's 3 second RT. Most of the time I never get out of that initial RT lock before it drops me just from damage (that's with redux + VHDP plate). The few times I did live long enough to get out of the RT lock, I can eather repeat the process (one mstrike, then locked) or run off to get healed and then repeat it. Berserk will throw out a few more volleys of mstrike at the wyrm during RT lock unless one of the 10 wyrm strikes between the 5 second RT breaks the berserk... but that's pointless against a critter that has 10k+ hp and can repair its wounds - which also is going to fly away after 10 minutes. Not even mentioning sympathy where I just loose total control of the character for like 30+ wyrm attacks. 😄
We'll see what the final iteration is eventually. It's going to have to be something different, because if gemstones gets gated behind that, no one but whales will have access to the system.
You can't crit them, but waylay helps damage output significantly. Thing is I'm almost primarily spamming 'feat silent waylay clear'. Do warriors have access to that?
Yeah, we can waylay, and it's brutal. The output per round on a wyrm though for me is higher berserking though.
Got it.
Downside is operational control, or even worse if it swarms in the room while berserking because it spreads the berserk round away from the wyrm so you start taking a beating.
The only useful part about swarms is they become 5 second RT T5 fodder with an mstrike berserk and typically don't last very long, but yeah, the suppression a swarm provides for a wyrm is counterproductive, even moreso now.
Have you tried going after ir with a tank build and lower stance? Before this largest round of updates I'd been having pretty decent results in advanced stance. With ithis high AS I might try forward and see what happens.
So far the only wyrm I've been able to take down was in Eldurhaart. No valravns, undans, or disciples to ruin things. I found leaving the swarms entirely alone to be preferable as they seemed to keep the wyrm plenty busy while I hung back and took pot shots at it. The second things looked sideways I left the room for a bit. If it went into a room that had nothing in it, I wouldn't follow until I saw it either moved or returned to the room.
Yep, but for me the AS isn't as much of an issue. As a square it's the combo of RT lock and sympathy. Can't berserk in a lower stance, so you're leaving yourself open to getting gazed and then just standing there. At least berserk keeps the volley's flying.
I was more worried about it despawning towards the end. I also noticed that its AS started to drop quite a bit after a while. I was out in the open for a few mstrikes but was able to shrug them off, which is a feat in robes. Typically I'm one and done with their new AS.
And when it took off I just left and would pop back over to see if it had landed yet.
I tried busting out a hand crossbow and see if volley and a couple shots would do anything while it was airborne... it basically chuffed and then promptly murdered me. It's better to just not be in the room with it while it's flying.
I don't typically berserk. I'll give it a shot with hasted hurling and see how that goes.
It's moot for me with the RT issue right now, but in general I would have been a lot more open to trying more options beyond initial setups sans sympathy. (edited because I realized I was repeating myself, lol). Let us know how hasted hurling goes for you!
Yeah, I've done this approach, which worked well before. I was going to attempt it on the scaled up AS version but I never even really had a chance to do anything but get sympathied and then battered until the RT finally freed up enough for me to bail. Being mostly in defensive was all that kept me from dropping on that one.
A'ite I just bagged another wyrm and I'm not entirely convinced that they haven't been rolled back.
Ooh? I'll give it another go tomorrow. ⚔️ Also, congrats on another kill!
Uhm, I just tried fighting the wyrm and it ripped me apart in under 30 seconds. I do not think theyve been rolled back
Thats 20 seconds longer than me before i Voln armor out of there and go back to the angels
I think I was destroyed before I even had a chance to get empathied! Is the wyrm still doing that?
I think it'd be doable with another person or two if I could holler and turtle. If the wyrm responds to holler, anyway.
Not sure. The sybil is immune to dirtkick for some reason. Odd immunities are out there
no dirt to kick! She keeps her room immaculate
Heh. It is a void in space time.

Is it normal of the Wagon to sometimes drop you off in different locations when traveling back to icemule from Hinterwilds?
No. What happened?
||The wagon draws to an abrupt halt. As you step out, you notice that it has separated from the caravan well away from your destination in Icemule Trace. The driver is also armed with a crossbow. He says, "All right, that's as far as we're headed. Don't cause any problems, now, and we'll both be on our way." He keeps the weapon trained on you until the wagon is well out of sight.
I got crossbow to the face.... and dropped off in Pinefar mountains.||
Oh, hrm... I think I remember that happening back with the Sanctum caravan, like bandit attacks. That's probably "normal". I thought maybe you ended up east of the Spine instead of near Icemule.
It CAN happen. Its rare. And only on the return trip
Pondering on this, I don't think I've ever taken the caravan trip back from the Hinterwilds. I've always used Sparkfinger to teleport back to the Abbey. Makes sense that it would happen on the return trip, though, if it functions like the other caravan travel. Do you not ride the sleigh back across the Long Snow on return?
Is there a Sparkfinger equivalent for easterly travel?
You know... that's a very good question. It's one I don't have an answer to, but brings to light how sparse the wiki information on the Hinterwilds is. Going to do a bit of digging to see if I can find an answer if someone doesn't reply first, but I think maybe I need to do a bit of focus on the Hinterwilds info on the wiki... at least documenting really basic stuff—exactly like this. Edit: I'm just going to pop over there and find out real quick. Anyone have the Lich R# for the Hinterwilds caravan there? (Answer: #31073)

Instructions on travelling to and from the Hinterwilds** using both the caravans as well as Sparkfinger (the alchemist) teleportation for gigas artifact fragments.
Would be great if we could get this pinned to the channel. I updated the wiki.
EAST OF THE DRAGONSPINE —
The caravan to the Hinterwilds from Ta'Illistim is located at [Seethe Naedal, Transportation] (L#31073), INQUIRE to use; costs 3,000 silver. You can pay Sparkfinger (L#29876) 4 gigas artifact fragments to be teleported back to Ta'Illistim and will immediately arrive at [Seethe Naedal, Tavern] (L#31072). Directly east of the caravan (L#31074) there is a sliver that can be used for travel to the Hinterwilds for 4 gigas artifact fragments. The caravan to go from the Hinterwilds back to Ta'Illistim is located in the ger at [The Long Snow, Encampment] (L#29860), INQUIRE to use; costs 3,000 silver. ```
```WEST OF THE DRAGONSPINE —
Thanks. I'd like to request a Sparkfinger equivalent for the east!
I think that would be a great idea. Also, wanted to note (but not add it to the details until I could confirm) the trip from the caravan in Ta'Illistim seemed lightning fast compared to taking the caravan from the Abbey near Icemule Trace. I'm not sure if that's intended to balance out the lack of a sliver in the East or not, but it was very noticeable.
As a side note: you might want to pop that request over in the #taʼillistim channel so Elysani will see it. I'm not exactly sure how the town guru system works internally, but adding that might need to be initiated by the guru for Ta'Illistim and might not be seen here.
If you take the sleigh from TI and portal back from Sparkfinger, it takes you back to TI. You can portal back and forth from HW to TI. You just can’t shortcut from Icemule to TI through HW.
Where is the option to teleport to the Hinterwilds for gigas artifact fragments located in Ta'Illistim? (Asking because I couldn't find it, and I'd like to update documentation if there is one).
I think it’s right where you catch the sleigh. In a neighboring room, maybe?
Oooh! Okay. Going to take another quick trip over there to check out. Thanks!
L#31074 = Ta'Illistim Sliver (directly east of the caravan). Thanks to @Severine for pointing me in the right direction. 🎉
Sweet! Thank you both very much!
You can sliver in and our from anywhere. No sleigh needed. Where you enter from is where you go back to
Taking the Ta'Illistim caravan to the Hinterwilds, and then using Sparkfinger to teleport back takes you to [Seethe Naedal, Tavern] (L#31072), not back to the caravan or the sliver. I didn't check on what the Sparkfinger option does if you use the sliver in Ta'Illistim to get to the Hinterwilds.
Yeah i do it all the time. If you sliver in from EN, you go back to EN
Oh wait…huh?
Yep, that's why I missed the sliver on my first trip up there today.
Well i guess you are at least in the EN. Weird that its the wrong room
Yep! Works, just not as expected. 😄 I updated the wiki (which had no details on it) to reflect what it's doing as of now. If that changes later, hopefully it will get updated again.
This is normal.
Thank you!
I mean... it's possible that was before FA was "fixed" -- right?
If you get the wyrms mana down low enough it can't keep it's barrier thing up. Lots of times my elemental flares will start hitting it towards the end of a battle. Happened most frequently when I was soloing them because the battle lasts a lot longer without multiple sources of damage wailing on it.
I was thinking of snagging a transmute, but now I dunno.
But it's the last chance. Don't you fear missing out on getting that transmute? You'll never get another chance. Probably.
It's not like they're suppressing the flare completely, so it would still theoretically tag other things in the room, which is not all together useless if you're trying to maintain focus on the wyrm
Probably. Maybe. Sort of?
Nice!! ⚔️ I use (this) one. QuickSounds, public domain. The first year or so after the wyrm's arrival, I was pretty focused on catching them every time they landed since I was researching/documenting their behavior, and I can't you how many times this alarm woke me up out of a dead sleep blasting through my headphones. 😆
Lol, I bet
I just crank the Benny Hill theme now because that's what it feels like fighting the things.
So harkening back to the starsong question I had regarding wyrms. I was finally able to put it to the test and they WILL work against them. Some will get deflected, but most will go through. It will not, however, stop them from doing 3 of their maneuvers on you instantly like some kind of cracked out focused mstrike.
I still think low steel or mindwrack flares is the way to go for the constant DPS
I'll have to go back to HW next week and try to catch some of y'all Wyrm hunting. I solo'd one the other day and it was going well until it didn't.. the crazy swarms didn't help. Does a wyrm increase the spawn rate in an area or would that have been caused by a group? The wyrm did seem to kill a handful of not-so-aware script hunters
The extra spawns when a wyrm is in an area is super noticeable over in Plat where I can often have the whole area to myself.
They really get the place cooking. There have been a handful of times where I get back to my desk and see one spawned, but don't know where because I was resting indoors, and I'm like, "It's gotta still be out there!" and I'll just run from area to area until I notice one with a bunch of things already roaming around, and without fail that has been where the wyrm was.
So I miiiight be onto something with wyrm hunting.
Spoiler Warning: ||Don't use a flaring weapon. If you use a flaring weapon this will happen:... 30 points of damage! Corruscating glints of prismatic color race over a silver-scaled cold wyrm's scales, forming a lattice of protective energy!This will make them immune to all physical attacks for a while. If you don't use a flaring weapon it won't happen at all and you're able to maintain physical damage.||
Can that be sorted via wildfire?
I had wildfire on
||So I got a shiney new transmute on my weapon... and I noticed I was STRUGGLING. Like I just couldn't. So I did some testing, looked over some logs, and yep. When I used a non-flaring weapon (or a weapon with death flares, which will never proc vs. a wyrm), there was no barrier so I was able to consistently maintain damage via waylay.||
This is flarescrimination
It's kinda diabolical. Respect.
interesting. Another win for nonstandard flares!
This was starsong, fwiw
Smart.
||I was able to confirm the theory. No flares = smoother experience. Still far from easy but... yeah.||
||any sense about briar flares?||
Unable to test that
...testing anything with wyrms is hard. The spawn rates are like twice a day and there is always the chance they'll spawn in Fjaarnia(tm).
And when they decide it's time for you to die... you die. So the window for science is small.
Fjaarnia! 🤣 I need to go back and check my logs, but I am confused by what you're explaining, I think. The barrier "forming a lattice of protective energy" has always been reflective of blocking elemental damage (flares and/or spells) — or am I misundertanding what you're explaining? I have never noticed it blocking any mechanical damage with that barrier ever (maybe that's changed?). I also know that maintaining the barrier effect is based on its available mana (or at least some sort of resource management), because if you ping it intentionally with elemental damage, that effect eventually starts to fail, and then disappears, allowing 100% of flares/elemental damage to hit it. It was a solid tactic except that it took some time, and sympathize typically snags someone and takes them out of the game before it can be accomplished. Is the barrier now blocking non flare/elemental damage as well?
As a side note: I went to run a test with Myharl the other day—chased down a wyrm moments after landing. Was in full defensive stance, never attacked, had Voln protection running, super charger running, enhancive boost for stats running, 140+ Agidex, Luck boost running... and it took literally 30 seconds for him to be killed. Just by being in the same room with the wyrm. Just immediate RT lock, stance knockdowns, 3-second mstrikes, and death. My only potential options to engage the wyrm at the moment seem to be either 1) reconfigure training/equipment to focus on hide/ambush and ping it to death, or 2) spend thousands of dollars for whale gear at DR. Still confused why it was changed... it was already a challenge that more often resulted in death than victory, but was actually fun when there as a chance for non-whales to take it out. Every group I've taken out since the change has been slaughtered in seconds, most of the handful of folks that used to rally to the call just handwave it now. I don't even put out the call for a hunt anymore.
I was minding my own business crushed underneath a draug in RT when the wyrm entered tail lashed and spewed acid twice and then mstriked me to death in about 10 seconds. Its action speed was like endless arena at round 100. This has changed from a creature to hunt to an environmental hazard to avoid
||A'ite so the flare will proc:Corruscating glints of prismatic color race over a silver-scaled cold wyrm's scales, forming a lattice of protective energy!
Then, for an indeterminate amount of time ALL my attacks will get:Corruscations of color play along a silver-scaled cold wyrm's scaled hide, disrupting the attack!
Now, I'm just using a OHE and using waylays. I can't tell if it is "do this much damage to the barrier and it goes away" or if it is "barrier lasts XX seconds". I'm also unable to confirm if spells will work during this time. A classic 'immune to physical attacks while susceptible to magic then vise verse' is pure speculation.||
Yeah, I'll dig in my logs this week as well to see what I have there. I should have 300+ encounters (likely much higher) worth of data to see if I have anything there to contribute to the effect.
||I'm also using wildfire 'just because'. Not sure if it is actually doing anything or not, but I'd rather have it and not need it than the other way around.||
Actually, I can already tell. In every instance that I get "Corruscations of color play along a silver-scaled cold wyrm's scaled hide, disrupting the attack!" it's a flare. Both offensive and defensive flares trigger it once the effect is in place. It never happens on my physical attacks as far as I can tell. What weapon are you using? Actually, no, I just didn't dig deep enough. I see it now.
||Formerly a big old log of JD flailing wildly against the wyrm's prismatic barrier with waylays to zero effect||
Lemme know when you get done reading that so I can delete/edit it down. Don't want the chat spammed with a giant black block.
I read it. Thanks.
Yeah, I need to dig into this because I think this is something new. My most recent logs show it. I hadn't really dug into them because the encounter was so rediculous, but now I'm seeing like this... (one mstrike volley from Myharl)
Deleted log to minimize visual impact
I didn't see this before the Benny Hill Wyrm.
Benny Hill Wyrm, lol. ||So this is something I cannot confirm nor deny, it is tinfoil hat levels of speculation. Let's just call it a conspiracy theory! I also notice when I wailed at them with a flaring weapon they were waaaay meaner. When I was just plinking away with a plain weapon they seemed more... tame? It's probably bonkers to suggest but it's like wailing away at their prismatic barrier charges them up. Because they'd just turn around and hit me with a 5 hit mstrike that included maneuvers. I don't ever see that happening when I'm just plinking at them with an ensorcelled, wildfire weapon with no other attributes.||
All we have is speculation until it's all worked out, and that sounds like a solid observation to me. ||I'm not sure I'd live long enough now to get off enough "basic weapon" attacks to determine if there's a difference, but it feels like it's worth a shot. ||
Like check this one out, lol. I'll leave in the 'waylay' prompt and you can see how much goes down between the 'you're still stunned' messaging.
lol. That feels about right... madness. At least now. It's insane. When I watched Myharl get RT locked and dropped just from walking into the room with it I just kind of threw my hands up.
Yeah, that's a vibe.
So in one 'round' the Wyrm did a breath attack, a regular attack, breath attack, breath attack, breath attack, a 6 hit focused mstrike, and then bopped a warg also in the room. All in the time between 'command input' and 'Nah you're stunned.'
My take away is ||A silver-scaled cold wyrm's eyes whirl with glints of furious amber and sullen crimson!|| is, "you're about to have a bad time."
is there anyway to defend against this? I've tried 1201, which is supposed to work against anything that is emotion related. Pretty sure thats just warcry bellow
and discipline is the only real defense. Even rank 6 warriors in warcries eat it on that.
does warcry lower your DS as well? It's a pretty big hit to my defense while under it's effects.
Warcry bellow doesn't lower DS, it adds the staggered status effect.
https://gswiki.play.net/Staggered
I think the wargs have a weird mechanic that goes with it where they will build a fear in you with subsequent cries
I agree, it's most likely just a mechanic with some flavor text.
1201 should probably have some effect on it with it being described as "primal terror" since the spell, unlocked, even removes sheer fear.
Curious if discipline has any effect. Seems like it should, as it factors into fear effects
Discipline (DIS): 100 (25) ... 110 (30) doesnt seem to
yeah SSR for high level stuff (wargs are 108ish) is just gonna get you. No real defense to it. At least it looks like you have enough survival to be reducing the RT from 20 seconds to 10 seconds, because those are base 20 second RT from basically a 120 endroll
it's one of the reasons I prio kill wargs in the gigas villages, they also get a pack bonus per other warg in the room to the point where if there's 3-4 you will be RT locked forever.
wargs in numbers are absolute menaces, berserkers don't help either
Maybe if y'all hunted HW in a group as intended - bring an army to fight an army! 😆
yup just gota kill them
I mean, I have no problem anymore dealing with swarms in HW generally, I'm not gonna fight like a bunch of disir and angryghosts but villages? swarm away
(that was not serious, nor practical advice)
I got some discipline enhancives for this and mental TD. I’d like to say that, heroism and self control helped some but can still get RT locked with wargs, berserker war cry and mastodon trumpets. As an aside, I’ve run into a half dozen warg packmothers and don’t understand how those generate. Are those warg warcry related ?
All I do these days is build my guy for Greatchamber swarms. Top tier fun. How many level 110+ critters can I take on
you ran into more than one 'packmother' at a time? That seems...a massive bug. Are you sure? She's a boss monster that only spawns once in awhile and ALWAYS in the warg den. She then quickly scrambles out into the hoarbriar and beyond
To clarify - Not a half dozen at a time, but half dozen total since hunting my bard there.
It takes a little while to bleed one down but helps that they can be stunned. It does produce a unique skin but because it can’t be crit or death flared, the skin always comes out crappy in value.
yeah, the skin is there for trophy purposes and is a very new addition. few months old at most
Who knows - maybe the alabaster warg pelt, dsir feathers and valravn quills will be a part of charm system.
i would love to fight multiple packmothers lmao
I like to chase her down for the pelts.
Well the feathers and the quills definitely could be, since those are part of a puzzle already. The packmother is a bit too easy to qualify for much as is. She's a hp bag
They spawn on a timer very similar to the wyrm. I feel like the packmother's spawn timer is slightly shorter maybe, but has been around 5-6 hours.
There was a while where the wyrm and packmother were spawning in the same window, a couple times I fought both in the same room at once. But over time that sync has shifted. My most epic Hinterwilds "victory" was when I slew a wyrm and packmother in the same room, and my necro ring spawned a ghostly wyrm and a spectral packmother that I then killed as well (two monuments in one room!).
There is a realm-wide spawn message when she spawns, though it's not monsterbold like the wyrm's and you have to be outside to hear it. Listen for her howls (or if you're near the Hoarbriar you'll hear the pack rushing by to hunt at her side). She always spawns in the cave in the Hoarbriar, and half a dozen normal wargs will spawn nearby outside.
The alabaster furs are a relatively new addition (12/28/2023 was the first one I found). They used to have just regular warg pelts, but they are also shank-able with a shank knife (I used to toss the meat in the box at Rawknucke's... I think there are a few still there). 😄
Oh, and alabaster pelt hack: If you have a necro ring, spawning a spectral or ghostly warg packmother will net you a bonus pelt, and before I was wacking them with white alloy, I think their pelts always came out in pristine condition.
The one timer I never did figure out was the ||gigas runestone charges||. It seems to be mechanically based and not a timer. ||The best I've been able to deduce that each can hold no more than one charge, and they seem to be recharged as monsters are killed. The rate of recharge has been noted as being much, much slower in Plat (I'm guessing because there are far fewer kills happening). I also don't know if more than one person can be on the disc at a time (I only play Myharl). I've never seen another person there, and I spent some extended periods in the River of Color (a couple all-nighters camped out) when I was learning/researching the lore from ambients. ||
I think even with druid fluid you only see the message if it actually changed the end result to a lower crit but i forget. stay out there a couple hours see what happens let it really build up lol.
and yeah it can be confusing. we asked when this came up previously to get like a "your xxx tried but didn't do anything" message so you at least know it's always getting properly considered even if it does nothing.
oh, there were many of them with nothing. Looks like an entire hunt with none, I only copied a single instance for reference. At 25% I'd expect the dmg to be reduced or show messaging, no?
¯_(ツ)_/¯
like that was a rank 2 if you took up to i think like 13 or 14 pre crit it would still just be a rank 2. or maybe it was a rank 1 and the 2 came from the +/- 1 randomization so it was 1 and still a 1 after (pre-random) can't reduce that.
looks to meet all the criteria for resistance to apply, as do others. 🤷♂️
I didn't even realize that the gale was being affected by resistances. It makes sense, I just never noticed.
yeah, it was a great way to keep the ranger danger item charged over time 🙂
So I decided to go back and dig through my logs to see why Myharl is struggling so hard with the wyrm. It's hard to see what's going on with it's volley of mstriks firing off every 3 seconds. In addition to being RT locked almost constantly, this is happening now since the changes:
You swing a glowing white sacred warsword at a silver-scaled cold wyrm!
Corruscations of color play along a silver-scaled cold wyrm's scaled hide, disrupting the attack!
** Critical hit! Your sacred warsword strikes the cold wyrm a savage blow! **
The wyrm was literally made impossible for him to hit, so yeah, there's that. 😄 One hit will make it through about every 21 attacks it seems (once in three focused mstrike volleys). So, that explains why. If that gets changed, let me know—would love to go back to hunting them regularly. Not going to waste my time dying on it when I can't even hit it.
Maybe that is anti-solo mechanism, I haven't killed one of the new models yet but I only tried once and got overrun by mobs plus 800 AS mstrike plus acid to my face. Now that it is much harder we need to get the reward mechanism in place! Even if gemstones aren't done maybe have it drop "placeholder material" upon death. No kidding this is how the last boss of Valheim is currently setup before they release the 2024 update haha.
Have you tried using a non-flaring weapon? From my experience the flares provoke their immunity.
I haven't, but just out of curiosity, I'll snag one and keep it on hand to try the next time I see one land. Worth a shot!
I always toss on wildfire, but next wyrm I'll try without it to see if that could also be a factor.
If that does turn out to be the case, It makes me wonder about reactive flares triggering it. Every piece of my armor and my shield flare.
I know regular flares will trigger the immunity. I assume reactives would have the same affect. I've always put on Wildfire vs. Wyrms because I just assumed it helped. So long as I use a non-flaring weapon it seems I'm able to maintain damage without ever getting the attack disrupted. Now I need to test if NOT having Wildfire will have some kind of negative effect. If not, it might not be necessary at all.
Alright just confirmed. Wildfire is not necessary. Just don't use a flaring weapon.
Terror flares may be an exception…
Mindwrack works as well.
bubble flares are ok!
So high end script flares are fine, but standard flares are a no-go?
Starsong was a no go.
I was seriously bummed about Starsong not being good for wyrms. But since they work on everything else, I can’t complain.
I did give them (UCS gloves) to my level 30 something bard though. But that was because they were effecting the value of my skins.
does the wyrm still spam tail strike putting people into continuous RT?
Yep
It will go in a "fury" and will basically do mstrikes that can include any combination of attacks and maneuvers.
I don't know if ranger stealth is enough to stay hidden - guess I'll attempt at some point (heh, but even then, it's not like I can snipe and never fall out - especially with adds)
Camo helps a lot. I put up unpresence as well to help. If it's searching it's not attacking. You can hopefully hide again before it's next action but they're faaaast. I prefer to engage with a few things in the room to distract them (preferably not valravns).
One mistake and it's usually over. Good times.
just like endless arena 😆 but wyrm runs from 125, right?
Yeah 125.
Does the wyrm attack a character immediately after successfully searching and finding a character? I've noticed some creatures do and some don't.
It wastes an action when they search you out. But their RT is like... 1, so you gotta be pretty quick on the re-hide
ah- thanks 🙂
I'm unable to test Somnis, but if the result is similar that would mean pre-resolution flares are WORSE vs. wyrms since the barrier will form and block the rest of the attack.
Hoping the experienced folk can help me out, I'm thinking about bringing my little crew up to HW and trying out the Pits (want to solely fight undead).
I've never been to HW.
What would I need to know? Both about HW and the Pits specifically...
You need significant sheer fear resist for pit
I basically live in the pit. I even set up an airbnb there. What do you need?
Just curious if there are any mechanic things i need to prepare for. Is the Pits subject to the same "survival / cold damage" that I hear about from the general area there?
My whole crew has S5'd gear, and most are voln, so should be pretty good with sheer fear. Most are voln too.
Any climbing ranks and things like that needed?
Any tricks to getting in/out of the pits?
All the hunting grounds are easy to access once you’re inside HW. 100 ranks of climbing fine with the occasional slip on ice. If you have S5 gear (armor and shield), voln courage and evoke 211/215, you’ll be fine even with dangerous creature type AG tasks on the highest level undead (dsir). My bard is non voln, shield and armor T5, heroism, dauntless, and hasn’t had any issues with shear fear.
There’s cold damage, but unlike outside, it doesn’t scale up with prolonged exposure and only does sheer health damage, no wounds.
Pits are a go2. 0 ranks climbing needed in all of HW
ooooh, easier than anticipated
0 survival needed as well
That was my next question... timer was holding me back 😆
There are several ways to avoid all cold damage for free. One a puzzle. One is using gigas bucks
Survival 1x and FA 1x is enough to skin
You’ll see some non undead in there too, wandering in from the surrounding areas. Mostly undead though
Swarm rate is pretty slow, fyi
I bring a small group with me (5) - so maybe I could help up the rates a bit
The Pits are very slow even with a larger group than that. If you want a faster undead experience, try the Spirit Walk Greatchamber.
If you want more action you can move closer to the entrance of the northern woods. That’s the fun part
They should release a milestone ATP for parking yourself in the Greatchamber and not dying for like 10 mins
The greatchamber for sure is screwey. It has some weird way to trap things in it somehow and you can get some wild times
It’s just sort of a nexus room for multiple areas. Don’t think there’s anything broken about it. It’s super fun
hmmm, starting to wonder if I should just keep enjoying Moonsedge 🤣
Especially if all i want is undead
It’s like 90%+ undead in the Pits. Come try it. Lots of fun
not used to flying critters.... safe to assume they can't be tackled?
Valravn? Carns Cry. They fall down
Valravns are technically flying but you can still kneebash or hamstring for an easy headshot.
Some Crazed Zombie Fiends running around this morning. Pretty Squishy… Happy April Fool’s
Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but I just started hunting hinterwilds recently and noticed that I get "out of reach" errors when using barrage and volley, if my target is a gigas something on a mastodon, despite them being ranged attacks.
Yep, been around a long time, probably a bug unlikely to be fixed soon
So I finally got a chance to test Great Somnis vs. Wyrms. I couldn't get it to proc the immunity barrier. You will get success messaging that you put it to sleep, but it is a lie. It's very much not asleep. So the take away is that Somnis won't HURT you when fighting a Wyrm, but it doesn't actually help, either.
I still think some of the other HW critters like valvrans and Draugrs are not properly falling alseep. I do get the "not affected" message. They should be affected if they can be Voln slept.
Can anyone else confirm what I am seeing with them and Somnis?
I can check in a bit.
Yep, looks like Draugr and Valravns are immune to Somnis but can be Voln slept just fine.
I assume that is an error but not sure if it is an item level bug or a hunting ground bug. I did bug them in the past but I will do it again.
Draugr even have specific messaging. ** For a split second, the striations of your somnis short sword expand into a sinuous pearlescent mist that rushes towards the shadow-cloaked draugr, enveloping her entirely and causing her to collapse, fast asleep! ** The fury seething in a withered shadow-cloaked draugr's eyes intensifies, fending off the soporific magic.
Add angargeists to the list. Disciples also seem to just act normally, even while popping messaging that they're asleep.
Disciples are wildly buggy, heh. They will display success, then display messaging saying they're no longer asleep... and act as normal... but if you look at the room they display as sleeping. Even if they move and you follow, they'll display as being asleep.
weird.... might be a HW specific thing? Something definitely changed in January....
Oh, I had so many spare bottles it didn't really affect me, heh.
I have to relearn my angargeist rotation. Its all foiled now lol
for me its more like my existing pile can only service 1/3 of gem bounties now, until i build up the new gems which will take a long time
I use my fwi locker for hinterwild gemsso I do need to share it with some other items for convenience. We need a HW locker!
between the fade, non-knockdown, and the design abomination that's sympathy, is there a creature more annoying?
Imagine if they "fixed" gem bounties were you could reliably get 8 uncut diamonds searching 20-30 critters in bounty designated area instead of the ~10% chance they probably have coded in there right now.
The odds are dependent on loot pressure. If gems the caliber of uncut diamonds wouldn't normally drop, it's still hard to get them to drop.
https://gswiki.play.net/Adventurer's_Guild#Gem_Collecting
[...] Adventurers are more likely to find the gem that they are tasked to retrieve until they have received enough to complete the bounty. The multiplier only works on creatures that the hunter can learn from and that already drop that gem, and only if they were going to drop a gem of that value; shells will not drop in Icemule just because the multiplier is active, and zircons will not turn into diamonds.
Of course, the opposite is also true--if an area has really low loot pressure and diamonds are dropping like rain, doing your green zircon bounty there can be a nightmare. In that case, consider going somewhere with terrible loot.
I dont mind them actually. The warrior strat is to force a fade. Ewave is an utter joke vs warriors
my strat was kill them in 2 hits after a tackle, not as reliable now.
ah, yeah thats not a thing with smaller weapons. Lance for sure
Sweep works.
I mean it makes sense that sweep would continue to work vs. creatures normally immune to other knockdowns. Without the distraction of a profession service rogues are able to simply bend reality to their will.
There is no spoon.
...or maybe Disir and Angargeists were incorrectly "fixed", since they've always been able to be knocked down... maybe they got 'em confused with undansormrs, which are immune to every knockdown except tackle. Pure speculation, though.
Disir were definitely not supposed to be able to be knocked down. We had a whole discussion about it months ago where only a few systems actually did knock them down, and I swear tackle was already on the doesn’t-work list
^ yes severing a leg was doing it also. the conversation Kaetel is talking about was around here, it starts with Ptolemy talking about knocking them down and me being like "uh, show me cause nothing i've done ever works" and leading eventually to "tackle and sweep probably are bugged and not making a check for this immunity"
That’s right. Hard to search on mobile. Also random crits worked
Yeah, I'm on the same page now. It's not my fault if sweep gets patched, fam.
410/912 probably/etc. can still give them the roundtime. crits i think high enough that severed the leg worked (but not lower rank ones that just cause knockdown). i think was the case for knockdown via injury
Yep, 100%. Regular 410 just buffets 'em.
Sounds like maybe sweep won’t work for much longer lol
Can you no longer tackle the Wyrm?
Barely could before the changes (downtime was like 1-2 second before it was back up unless it got rooted), not sure if the new update prevents it entirely. Next time I see one land, I'll try to tackle it to find out.
Ugh. Can we retire the current wyrm until he's in a semi-tennable state? As is, it's just a partial party wipe basically as soon as he enters the room. Every time I've run into him in the last couple months I've lost at least 1 squad mate within the first second. He just comes in and instantly cleaves with 700+ AS, usually while I'm in RT from dealing with the standard fauna. Zero chance of actually engaging properly, much less succeeding.
I mean... there's like ten rounds of monsterbold messaging to warn that the wyrm is coming. 🤣
Yes, but it doesn't say in which zone he's going to ultimately land until the very last one. So if the answer is "okay we're on the last few rounds of alerts, let's go sit in town for 20 minutes" - that also doesn't feel great.
If you're outside you'll see where it lands. That being said, it moves fast, and isn't restricted to the area it lands in.
I propose a solution: fix the wyrm, let Myharl and friends keep the Hinterwilds relatively wrym-free like he used to. 😉
It is a bit annoying to be hunting and get offed by it now. I simply ran past it the other day using ;go2 and got slammed into RT lock just passing through the room, knocked prone, and then promptly killed with 3-second vollies of five 700+ AS attacks. Not to mention it's immune to everything... so even my reactive flares are pointless.
I'm on the other side of it a little bit. I had one spawn in Plat and I was like, "I should be safe in the Pits, I'll go there." Then like five or so minutes into the hunt the thing WALKED INTO THE PITS. I was in absolutely no position to engage (minimal preparation, a little encumbered, had an injury, etc). I engaged it anyway because YOLO and it went as well as you can expect... but part of me thought it was actually kind of a cool way to die.
That said I agree, and would prefer they at least be rolled back to the previous version until all the kinks are worked out. Or at least give us the Big Game Hunter achievement if nothing else if we manage to down it.
I've gotten pit-jumped by the wyrm to. I just laugh and depart confirm. no biggie. But i also agree he's not serving any real purpose right now
yeah, but really, what's more important, the death beast that stalks and murders us all every month or so OR fishing in Hinterwilds?
Everfrost. It's become central to Myharl's theme. I really dig how it crosses classifications. It's a gem. It's a crystal that radiates pure cold to the point it condenses the air around it into wisps of frigid mist. It's technically a magical metal. Rhimar so pure that it has crystalized. They don't drop frequently, but I've saved every one I found since the path to the Hinterwilds was discovered. Gifted my first bottle of 100 to a friend, and I am steadily working on the second bottle of 100. The next would probably be raven's wing obsidian, which my shank knife is now made from. 😄
Side note of appreciation for the quicksilver globes. I managed to snag about a dozen before they vanished. Appreciated because I had literally spent years trying to track down a quicksilver vial from ages ago to no avail.
The chunk of dark volcanic glass is chipped here and there, but its surfaces are smooth and reflective. Glints of pink, violet, indigo, and shimmering green skitter across the black surface of the gem in ambient light, resembling the oily sheen of a raven's plumage.```
Fishing, it's rare and hard to find, but one day I'll find it!
Would you post a description of the raven's wring? (not sure if that's a spoiler because I don't see it documented on the wiki). I hadn't ever looked at everfrost- super cool (no pun intended)- I wonder if there are similar stones for drakar, zorchar, and gornar.
We need one of those everfrost chests up there so we can freeze fish for the safe transport home.
I think most the Hinterwilds gems haven't been added. I added the everfrost awhile back. I'm not in GS at the moment, but will post the description for the obsidian when I get back if someone else hasn't by then.
Overhauling the Hinterwilds on the wiki is something I'm wanting to do, but I have several other projects in front of it (right now wrapping up cataloging a lot of historical media stuff for the wiki that I want to release next week, cleaning up all the Moons of Elanthia stuff I put together, and doing some projects for TownCrier)... and somewhere in there wrap up the pending stuff on Myharl's wiki page.
Heearing aloooooot of excuses.... 😛
Once I interacted with a quicksilver globe it changed to the sliver one
Ah! I have mine jarred. So, guess I'll be leaving them there.
These are probably my favorites
Niveous Snowdrop Tear-shaped, the snowdrop is a striking translucent white. It is of a size that it might be mistaken for a hailstone, were it not for the startling radiance channeled by its facets. Impurities within the gem form the faint suggestion of falling snowflakes, not one of the frosty occlusions completely alike to another.
a faceted stormcloud alexandrite The alexandrite seems a tempest captured in crystal. Its color is a moody blend of pale blues and dark greys, with hints of pale green flirting about the facets. Within the depths, flashes of electric violet mimic the capricious dance of lightning across a storm-tossed sky.
So i've got a question. is this an outdated situation or is HW still generating more than one type of egg?
No, the top is an old typo that was fixed. You've likely had them a while
Doesn't that usually rank up the crits? And, I think golems are immune to crits. I run into the same thing using a plasma flaring warsword, and I assumed that was the case, because when it happens to halflings they light up.
so when does the Wyrm leave an area? Does it go away on it's own. It prowled in and pretty much just stopped me from doing anything and killed me. I don't really want to deal with it so just trying to understand if it will leave or if it has to be defeated?
in HW seems you don't have much of a choice but to decay since it would take a bit for a cleric to get there. Would be nice if clerics and empaths had free portal cost or something there. heh
have it where if someone dies it creates a window where it's free
The wyrm eventually leaves. But it travels all over the hunting grounds. I ran into it once in the pits and it seems to stir up the spawn rate some. After getting whupped by the recent ‘roided version of the wyrm, I just avoid hunting for 10 minutes when I see the spawn messaging.
Yeah wyrm messaging means hit the pipe den and don't go anywhere for 10 minutes. Very fun stuff
I'll have to keep that in mind to just leave HW when it comes. Thanks for the info. It's just kinda pointless to even attempt to fight something that is just going to lock me up from moving so I can't do anything just by walking by it or having it walk into my room.
Getting rekt by the wyrm should open up a funny unique title. Heck, after getting owned in a funny way x-times, funny titles can be seen as progression. After getting nuked by song of power 5 times, you see “so and so, the Mana voided”
I always roll the dice and just dive in and ignore the messaging. Just "if it's my fate to die this day, I will die." Feels good to make it thru in one piece, though yes, sometimes I die
Yeah, the wyrm's "timer" is roughly 13 minutes once landing unless it gets engaged by players. It has never flown off in the middle of an engagement with living characters in the room that I am aware of. Though I have seen it "vanish" by being driven into a dead-end room by a summon swarm a few times. The areas it won't encroach are: anywhere in Cold River, the ||River of Color||, beyond the ||Sybil's arch||, Bittergale's Glade, and as far as I can tell it's can't trek on the Issenflow. It can enter any structure outside of town, and I've even had it hop in the well in Fjallhaart with me a couple times. It very rarely (though it can) cross through the huntman's trail between Angargreft and the Boreal Forest, so that's typically a safe place to duck in if needed as well.
I just ignore it. When it arrives I let the population know, then when it leaves I let them know it’s fled rather than approach and fight me.
It's just landed. I decided to stalk it a bit, it's around the runestone near Fjallhaart now. I did notice something I don't recall seeing before.
A reptilian cry of victory trumpets through the air, coming from the northeast.
Might just be because when I hunt them, I never linger in an adjacent room, but I'm fairly sure I haven't seen that message before.
The entire HW seems more dangerous to me in the last few weeks. Like something changed.
Hrmm... I've not noticed, but it maybe a threshold thing. I've noticed the gale hitting a bit harder more frequently, but I chalked that up to RNG luck.
What level am I supposed to be able to get bounties from halfwhistle? I don't need them for anything specific. I just collect all the Hinterwilds gems en masse. And noticed I had not seen one drop or in any boxes in a few weeks. Which seemed odd. Glad to see them still dropping though - must just be a weird bout of luck.
anyway in this hot soup I have 7 nightstones, and I oopsied and sold off all my gems recently so this has to be within the last week or so
there was someone looking for specifically blue rifstones the last few days, which he got, but damn couldnt see a single one drop in that time.. so its only when youre looking for something specific heh (yes riftstones are rift not here but same "Watched pot" mentality)
I was so excited to make warg pelt sheaths and then I realized I hated every single one I tried to make
I'll know who to hit up for specific gems then hehe
I made a few as well. I was hoping with the Packmother's pelt I could make one with those, but unfortunately it treats it just like a normal warg pelt when sheathmaking.
I have not noticed a lack of them recently.
can't fish....yet.....
I'm just constantly a bit frosty there's like an entire fishing area of the village that won't let me fish
Writing fish is hard, okay!?
You should apologize to fish and let him know you're not sure what to write about, maybe he will let you off the hook.
There should be fish a boss that is a low % random chance that you have to actually fight after you catch it. Level 120 Gigas Mouth Bass. Only once you defeat it along with all of the other bosses will you earn the Big Game Hunter Milestone.
Just do the Retser way and be like "you catch a fish, it has a weight and a length"
You have to take the gigas mouth bass fin, alabaster warg pelt, wyrm scale, and the spoiler spoil and present them all to the Frostling to earn your personal plaque that reads, "I Won Gemstone", that gets mailed to your house.
Or it summons Koar and he gives you a high five along with a commemorative pin. I don't know. I don't work here.
Accidently hook the wyrm
Makes me wonder if the Issenflow is saltwater or freshwater. With the Hinterwilds being in deep freeze, and with no evidence of geothermic activity, the question is where its flow comes from. If it's fed by an estuary off the Frostmain, then it might be an unusual case of inland flowing waters pushed by tidal bore and relatively warmer currents from further south in the Great Western Sea (Elanthia does have two moons large enough to cause weirdness with the tides). If the river flows from west-to-east, that would be the case. If, however it's flowing east-to-west, down form somewhere inland, it might be from meltwaters in higher regions somewhere further east of the boreal forest with some mechanism in place to generate that runoff.
Are we playing the same game? Respect
Because that's 1108 and the code likely hasn't been looked at since obama's first term. Stuff like that is on a spell-by-spell basis, I think, and 1) not many players use 1108 at all and they don't use it on other characters and 2) not many creatures use 1108. It should be looked at, but I'm not surprised it wasn't automatically capped by releasing KS
I know this won't matter in a level, but... I'm currently 95 and don't get any bounties in HW, but from Icemule I most definitely get bounties for Moonsedge. I think someone earlier told me (whether it was here or in game) that the min for HW bounties was 96, but just feels like the rule (if it's a level min) should apply to both HW and Moonsedge areas (trust me, I would rather do bounties in the rift/scatter any day than Moonsedge, I am very bad there).
I think HiWi has its own AG setup (which is why it's able to grant +10% additional exp, silver, and BP rewards), which may mean it lives on a separate framework and doesn't share whatever logic is allowing you to get Moonsedge tasks from the Icemule AG (which is on the base AG system)
Ahh, didn't know about the additional rewards bit, makes sense. thanks as always for your answers ❤️
does song of noise prevent Wyrm from casting too? Asking for a friend
I don't think the Wyrm casts anything? It's mostly maneuvers
i usually just beat it to death but now im curious
it would be worth running it just to stop all the adds from casting.
I see it as freshwater.
I tried fighting the wyrm again but it attacks so fast I could barely keep up with it. Spams stuff faster than me with SK506.
wyrm > whales
rip
did you ever get the feeling it wasn't intended to be solo-able? 😄
After a few weeks of trial and error. I'm fairly sure we've figured out a way to take the new wyrm down. I'm just going to have to create an alternate set of gear for wyrmhunting. Rocked a few pretty good, but my gear always ends up seting of its defensive barrier. Once that goes it, it's game over.
Will have to go sans all flares other than mindwrack, and that should do the trick. Also means negating reactive flares.
Wish there were a way to "turn off" reactive flares, then I could just focus on using my current gear.
What's the benefit to killing the wyrm aside from bragging rights?
There isn't any currently. OOC we know it is going to be the gateway to the new charms/gems system, and there have been hints that it may be faction-based with the gigas of Eldurhaart in some way. For Myharl, it's an RP element of the character, but there is also the tandem effort of establishing what's most effective for folks when those updates roll out. There have been about four variants of the wyrms over the past couple years, each time the method of hunting them has had to shift. This newest iteration has proven to be the most difficult since it has a barrier that prevents almost all damage to it which gets triggered by almost any magical/elemental attack.
I wish they would do something with the loot system in this game. It would be nice to get excited about drops and treasure, instead of just mindlessly grinding for more XP. You kill the most difficult creature in the game and you don't even get a reward for that (currently).
That's pretty cool how there have been different versions of the wyrm, each with their own nuances. It's a cool concept that seems unfinished. To your point, maybe the gems / charms will fix that.
Yeah, absolutely. On that note, the warg packmother did relatively recently get a rare skin, which is really cool. I've been saving them up. Don't know what for yet, but I have several bundles so far.
in all fairness it was fairly easy to solo previously
I think it's kind of funny that with every iteration, the solution seems to inevitably end up being, "just do less." They're immune to XYZ already, and ABC causes temporary immunity/rage... so just don't do any of those things. Just... attack it. With a non-flaring weapon.
Then, the trick is to just not die.
That's a skewed comment. Likely so for whales, but claiming it was easy to solo is a bit of hubris. Myharl was able to solo several, and he's nothing close to a whale, and it was anything but easy.
The very, very first wyrms were super easy, but they weren't around long. All you had to do was leg them then take off their right hand. They'd just lay there and do nothing.
Oh, the wyrmlings? Yeah, those were easy, but they were only around for a week or two really. They were the azure-scaled ones, and the lore (based on the Hinterwilds painting) is that the blue ones are babies. Something between the undansormrs and the silver-scaled wyrms. (OOC, I assume those were to test the landing cycles).
I actually found the previous version (to what we have now) to be super fun to fight. Granted, they didn't feel quite "end game boss," but it was fun to tangle with them and experiment with different tactics.
I agree, the last iteration felt more engaging. I don't know if that's because of the rush of slaying them, or if the experience was just more fun. I suspect a bit of both.
I'm okay with the, "They aren't intended to be soloable" rhetoric. Doesn't mean we'll stop trying, though. Anything is possible with 80m XP, SK haste, and a can do attitude.
Yeah, I could care less if I can solo one. The times I did wasn't an attempt to do so, it was that no one else would hunt them with him at the time. 😄
I think it's going to be fun when charms go live, and folks need to get that kill under their belt to proceed. It'll be the closest we've been to world peace levels of cooperation since Pokémon Go.
As long as the wyrm is updated so that all professions can hit it, sure
Once they get weak, that barrier starts to falter. I haven't been able to determine if that's an issue of driving their mana lower after a long battle, or a result of damage, but it may come down to a wave of squares wearing one down, and then casters coming it to clean it up.
"There. They're perfect." "What did you change?" "No one can hit them..." "Then how do they-" "The answer rests behind the Moonsedge Study Door."
The last time I tried to attack a wyrm it was literally immune to UCS so lol
Meanwhile, I'm still over here investing a few hours a week trying to figure out if the gigas alters and shrine are a puzzle, and trying to figure out more about the weird gigas/wyrm hybrid depicted on the tapestries in the Sanguine Grove burrow.
Yeah, man, the lore is so good.
Love that place so much. 😄
Everyone knows that the Wyrm exists to encourage us all to go fishing. When you see it in the air, that's when we're supposed to go fishing
When I last attempted the wyrm, I thought it was just doing 1-second actions that often included its AoE tail swipe - which caused like 20 seconds of RT. I recall being permanently locked down in RT, and I think others reported similar experiences. Have you learned anything that allows us to avoid the RT-lock from tail swipe?
If you get a few hits on it before it tail swipes, it seems to shift its tactics to attacking. The best route I've found is to be berserking when you engage it, so that the RT is mitigated when it does hit you. When I can, I've been positioning myself to charge into the area while berserking to get off a volley of mstrike before it can take an action. One of the bigger issues I've run into is something (I'm assuming the gigas attacking it when there's no character in the location) sometimes seem to trigger it's barrier. So it kind of sucks to run in and cause zero damage.
Does it ever return to tail swiping, or does that seem like a permanent shift of tactics for the duration of the battle?
Oh, no, it returns to it, but if you're berserking the RT doesn't matter, you'll jump back up and keep your volley going. Then the only problem is an attack breaking the berserk, then it's game over. But if you pass into the room without attacking, it typically seems to default to just multiple tail swipes. Catching it flying might change that? But to do that you typically have to be in the area it dives to catch it before it goes aground.
The trick to defeating it is really going to be DOT. It's about stacking that recursive damage. A direct assault whittling it down probably isn't feasible anymore. Not without some uber gear that's going to be way out of the budget of 99.9% of adventurers.
Marstreforn's comment above had me wondering if the wyrm, in it's current state, is actually working as intended. Maybe there's a group strategy we just haven't figured out yet. I'm skeptical of that though - the wyrm feels like it's in some temporary nearly-impossible state that might be refined with the release of charms. And, if the only viable strategy consists of berserking warriors immune to RT, I certainly hope it's temporary and that changes are on the horizon.
If I recall, there was some prior discussion about rogues simply maintaining stealth. Though that sounds like a frustrating option. And it seems like ranger stealth is definitely insufficient
I have successfully discovered that the wyrm is capable of eating multiple gnomes in a single sitting
It has occurred to me that group-cast barkskin with 100 blessing lore ought to buy a 1-minute window for a group to get some damage in. (Though I suppose I'd need to review the SMR success margins. That 1 minute may not even be guaranteed.)
you need one person on feint duty with 506 or 1035 going. Then everyone else beats on it
Does the stagger from feint actually stick? Or can the wyrm break out of that?
Definitely yes - that's the definition of stagger. I'm acknowledging that the wyrm can certainly break out of effects like immobilize. Stagger may be in that category.
That's worth a shot! As long as no one has anything that flares.
Halfwhistle says, "I'm sorry Duffield, but I don't seem to have any tasks that are suitable for you. Perhaps you might want to head to another town that provides a more challenging environment for you?"
But still not getting any - not at normal difficulty or even easiest. Just wondering if I can get some official answer on what the level req is here?
You have to ask about harder, until you’re -5 from the lowest level creature there I think. AG only assigns up to your level +5 at normal difficulty. You may also want to ask the IMT (or FWI) AG headmaster for ASC BOTH or ASC REQUIRE
Hmm alright. Also I realize now.. I see the critter levels on the map are not the same as the wiki (higher on the wiki). Maybe I am not in level range after all?
IIRC, you can't ask for Ascension bounties at all until cap. Others could add you, though.
Edit: ...that's referring to the Hinterwilds. You might be able to get Moonsedge or Hive bounties because the Icemule and Zul Adventurer's Guilds don't operate the same as the Cold River one.
So just a heads up, if you berserk in the Hinterwilds, we have a new guest up there who likes to hide and then attack when a berserk runs you into the room their hiding in chasing a creature. Let it pass this time, but if it keeps up, I'm going to have to do a warn interact to remain in policy.
POLICY 4 states:
What is not acceptable is to initiate combat against unsuspecting victims, especially to prey upon weaker players for the singular enjoyment of the attacker.
If they are attacking players without any prior interaction and without any consent, then they are already breaking our Policy on conflict. Please REPORT the offender for this behavior, as it is already grossly against policy to do this, and then please ignore the situation so it may be addressed properly by a GameMaster. If you wish to use a WARN against them for your own concerns, feel free to do so. Thank you.
If you have any further questions regarding this, please ASSIST and ask for a GameMaster to further clarify anything regarding Policy and conflicts between players.
I don't think he's attacking a player. Just poaching kills that said berserker is chasing
Oh. That might be a different story entirely then.
That's how I read it anyway, could certainly be wrong. Does berserk chase into rooms occupied by non-hidden characters?
I just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything against policy going on in regards to conflict.
Nah, they attacked Myharl when his berserk forced him (chasing a fleeing monster) into the room where they were hiding, and Myharl's berserk started attacking what they thought were "their kills". I broke the berserk as soon as mechanics would allow. I realize what they did is against policy. Next time I will report it - I just hate to be that guy. I don't mind some good PvP in-character, but attacking someone because you don't like the mechanics of the game is petty, entitled, and juvenile.... and against policy. When I explained what happened, their response was another threat. (shrugs)
They’re doing it wrong. They should stay hiding and go back into other rooms to vulture your kills.
Right!? Myharl is like a trail of loot. 🤣
Easy solution. Make berserk player unfriendly only in Hinterwilds. Watch the fun commence.
At least they're actively at their keyboard
I've never script hunted, attentive or afk. Just not my thing, but those who do aren't attacking my character. 😄 Puts folks in an awkward position. My instinct is to disarm, tackle, and mstrike until there's a corpse in response, but policy puts me at liability for self-defense, so... would just be cool if those players could not be jerks.
I think it's a perfectly reasonable character response to attack someone who attacks you. And it's within policy.
no no definitely didn't mean you! Just meant I have seen my fair share of those that do, and real live people feel less common
Your first sentence strikes me as slightly ironic, because berserking IS the OG scripted hunting…except you have basically zero control over it 🤣
Not a judgement in the least, and the offender is certainly due their justice - hope the situation is resolved appropriately soon.
Ha! I've made that same joke before since so much of it seems hands-off. Really though, it's a legitimate combat style, and one that Myharl's build is designed around. Strategy around it requires a warrior to plan ahead. Once committed to berserking, you're all in at full offensive for the next seven rounds at least. What/when/where I berserk, when I break a berserk, and what gear I'm using to augment it can be incredibly complex, especially post-cap with non-whale equipment. Aside from the RP persona of a berserker (which I love for Myharl), the balance of risk/reward in the field is one I really enjoy.
As far as the incident last night. I'm a nice guy (or at least try to be). We're all here to play a game and have fun. When a new name shows up in the neighborhood and starts breaking policy, I figure it's worth mentioning. The reason I didn't report last night is that I really don't have a desire to see anyone reprimanded. Would much rather everyone do their thing and have fun. I enjoy conflict between characters at times... never between players. Life's too short for that garbage.
!IR>``` time for my weekly reminder that wendigo fears are 30s, not 20s as suggested by Kroderine Soul (I won't even bother to complain about how it is additive)
The plot thickens!
I looked into this and that messaging is for immobilization, not roundtime.
Ah can you clarify specifically what you mean? I was going by this from the wiki: Any hostile spell effects will have their duration capped at 20 seconds. which honestly is pretty vague.. I know we are not trying decipher the constitution or anything, but I interpreted roundtime as falling under "any hostile spell effect." If that's not the case, then okey doke, would you mind pointing me to what you're looking at (I assume some old release of KS post) and I will personally update the wiki myself to make it clear? 😄 thanks for looking into it
maybe its stagger vs. immobilization which is non-stagger..... tough to tell
What I am saying is that the messaging you posted is from immobilization.
There was a bug saying it was causing roundtime when it wasn't. So now I am curious what caused the RT.
Looks like this broke through my sigil cloak?
A withered shadow-cloaked draugr hangs back for a moment and concentrates intently on you, before unleashing an attack on the magical wards surrounding you!
** Branching filaments of power snap outward from your purple cloak in a lambent violet corona! **
A withered shadow-cloaked draugr manages to cleave away a magical ward!
You notice your blood flow go back to normal.
The bright luminescence fades from around you.
The ethereal necrotic film covering a withered shadow-cloaked draugr's black alloy greatsword shrivels away.```
Nevermind! the cloak sigil cloak made him take low level spells I guess?
Ahhhhh interesting -- for what it's worth, it looks like there are two fears going on? I'm not sure if each message is a separate fear mechanic. I am 99% sure I can KS dispel to remove it, which is also interesting (as usually I dont think fear works like that). Also there is the "the magic falters" which I dont quite understand, unless there is yet another bit occurring that KS is blocking
I am curious what gave you roundtime. Was it wargs?
That 30 second roundtime is a direct result of the wendigo fear hitting
(wargs are fun in their own right, but I feel like its a different "flavor" of fear, as I have seen with some other enemies, the messaging for multiple hits is more like "oooh anotha one" aka "another wave of fear further fears you, fraidy cat") .. Im trying to test and theres like 12 wendigos out here, this is your doing I know it :p
A savage fork-tongued wendigo rasps out a dissonant, sing-song phrase.
and while the debuff says 20seconds, clearly we can see a 30s roundtime
(so yeah I see what youre saying the immobilization is capped at 20s, but what is the roundtime.. this roundtime comes along with this empathy cast.. to me it is immobilization + roundtime)
Though seems like "primal terror" is its own thing. As I get a message a bit later about it wearing off
