Wyrm? Enroute
Wyrm incoming @timid shuttle @sharp raptor
Darn. Grilling dinner
Wyrm steak?
Wooo! Finally pulled off the double:Excruciating pain lances through your hand as the smooth bone ring on your disfigured finger is awakened! Necrotic energy, in the form of an ichor green haze, trickles from your ring and encircles a silver-scaled cold wyrm, strangling its lifeless remains until a ghostly cold wyrm is squeezed into existence!``````You quickly step from hiding to deliver your waylay! You punch with a low steel kunai at a ghostly cold wyrm! You feel a bit of luck touch you. AS: +749 vs DS: +448 with AvD: +22 + d100 roll: +72 = +395 ... and hit for 340 points of damage! You hear a sound like a child weeping as a white glow separates itself from the cold wyrm's body and rises into the heavens. Flying badly, the battered form of the great cold wyrm is wracked by a terrible convulsion. The wyrm wheels into a death spiral, wings and tail rippling limply in the air as she plummets toward the ground. The cold wyrm crashes down with a thunderous impact and does not move again. ``````You also see a silver-shot black stone wyrm and a silver-shot black stone wyrm.
Did it spawn with boss mods? That would be an exciting fight
It was basically the same experience just couldn't make it bleed.
The Lich's Curse spectral ones are rough. Like, sheer fear combined with sympathy is... yeah... rough. I'm 99.9% sure that had it not been someone with uber gear I was taking out for a hunt that it would have been impossible. Wyrm + boss monster buffs. 😬
I need to try to solo a wyrm in plat
what are the best resistances for HW? besides a ranger trinket
where are you gonna hunt?
lot of crushing damage weapons between berserker great axes, draugr greatswords and disir lances
What kind of damage is mana burst? and the valravn SMR attack? what about the wyrm's SMR and its main attacks?
impact disrupt disintegration
Mana burst is everything
Mana Burst is a single-target damage spell that excites the mana weave around a target and causes it to flare with multiple cycles of energy criticals. Each cycle of damage, the damage flavor is randomly chosen from several energy types. Training in Mental Lore - Manipulation provides a chance to cause a fourth damage cycle. The chance is ( Mental Lore - Manipulation ranks / 1.5) percent. The potential critical types are: Disintegration, Disruption, Electrical, Grapple, Plasma, Vacuum.
well....
A silver-scaled cold wyrm just came through a crumbling red stone maw.
That's one way to die
Sparkfinger is missing after relaunch
So is Rawknuckle.
The village has been abandoned!
Baffling why they aren’t a persistent NPC like… any other NPC in the game I can think of
Sparkfinger is back, at least. The wyrm is harder with no slush resists
Request for Wrayth clickable "ask about bounty" for Rawnuckle please
A flayed gigas disciple points a flayed finger at you!

Warding failed!
A nebulous haze shimmers into view around you, plunging inward to envelop your right leg!
A jagged chunk of earth floating near you intercepts the attack!
A jagged chunk of earth floating near you intercepts the attack!
A jagged chunk of earth floating near you intercepts the attack!
The whirling barrier of earthen debris surrounding you slows, then shatters into dust.
A pure golden latticework springs up from the surface of your black leather armor and shields you from some of the damage!
Some pitch black leather armor marked by golden rings of varying sizes partially deflects the onslaught of the disintegrating attack.
... 1 point of damage!
Surface of right leg etched to little effect.
Cloudy tendrils writhe throughout your form, ravaging you for 28 points of damage!
(Need to make this essence belt feature into elite earth ascension skill)
Sparkfinger has gotten lost again 😬
Edit: and apparently Rawknuckle too. Guess I'm not doing HW bounties this morning
Double edit: Looks like there was maintenance and I just happened to log in right as things were coming back online
Do any other NPCs just poof when the game reboots or is it just the HW ones? Don't really get why they can't be "normal" always-there NPCs
It's unusual, but I'm assuming there's a reason they get populated that way. Might have something to do with the weird layer of Hinterwilds-specific variables that they mess with. Like how all of Sparkfingers offerings only function in the Hinterwilds.
why would i get this in HW?
Halfwhistle says, "I'm sorry, but I don't seem to have any tasks that are suitable for you. Perhaps you might want to head to another town that provides a more challenging environment for you?"
You're too good for this game, time to go outside. Do you not have ascension bounties turned on or some thing like that?
Did you disable asc bounties?
Under level 100?
Are you a filthy hobbitses?
are you level 121?
no im 100
You have indicated that you will not accept bounties on Ascended creatures.
how do i turn that back on lol
Ask task about ascension
Im guessing
ask dude about ascen [both,ban], and there's a 3rd option I forget
Thank y’all
@sharp raptor * Time to sing a dirge for Myharl! I hummed a dirge for you, wasn't up for singing. What got you?
The worst demon of them all... disconnect/lag. Was just out for a causal hunt, couldn't get back in. I guess critters/gale finally got him. First time anything other than the wyrm has taken him out in a long while. 😄
The dreaded disconnect demon lays all low.
Has anyone seen the frostling since the disconnect? :paranoid:
I have, yes.
I just saw him, too. Ok, just checking - it was starting to have been a while. I was afraid the alchemist got him!
You gesture at a silver-scaled cold wyrm.
CS: +590 - TD: +588 + CvA: +25 + d125: +57 == +84
lol okay.
just solo'd my second wyrm
I think we need to bring its DS up to 1100 on only allow it to drop 50
we really need to lean into the 1% balancing.
why is its TD so absurd
I dont know it's been pointed out a million times
Its more of a skill gap....
That’s just insane. I don’t get how anyone expects warding pures to engage with this creature.
yeah, i had to alternate 117 on myself and 118 bolt to be able to hit it consistently 😑
As a wizard I have to press multiple buttons AND remember to 515 every 60 seconds..... It takes a certain mental fortitude to do it all! (God forbid i forget to TAP my sigil armor.... that is advanced gameplay)
i just plink it with arrows until it dies
TAP doesn't last long enough to matter for me
but can you do 100 damage every 6 seconds for 26 mana...
Glory and success is only 1 potion away.....
what potion?
You know which one! And it is the racial one ya traitor....
I'm never going back!
its the one that makes youa berserking warrior
I went through the data from the last wyrm
16,061 health (from arrows), 287 arrows that did damage with an average of 57 per
Flare damage:
470 animal (15 flares)
260 T5 dispel (15 flares)
20 elemental blade (vacuum) (3 flares)
750 damage or 4.67% of total
No trend of flare damage increasing toward end of fight - though there was some clustering of flare damage frequency in the last 2/3rds
57 armor grapple (9 flares)
70 essence belt (8 flares)
Wyrm "diverts a fraction of.." HP boost 29 times, which assuming 10k base health would put it at 209 HP per boost. But I did lose track of the wyrm a couple of times
A "1" represents an arrow strike that did damage, but no flare. V is vacuum, D dispel, and A animal
This message did seem more frequent toward the end of the fight, but she was still able to put her shield back up most of the last third of the fight
"The wyrm looks wearied and the last glints of corruscating color crackle away from her scales."
I was hoping there would be some pattern to the shield coming down but I did not see a strong trend or correlation with anything. I don't know if she used "diverts a fraction" more often at any point during the fight

Question regarding getting swallowed by quivering sanguine ooze, what methods of attack are allowed/not allowed against the organ to get you out? I tried doing a search but not sure I found conclusive evidence for one thing or another. I see Ondreian had issues at time of release using pierce/slash attacks to break out. What's the preferred methods of getting out of the ooze?
i grab a runestaff. bow doesn't work
punch and kick also didn't work at the time for Ondreian when he posted his log in 2021.
Trying to see about updating bigshot with a routine to get out, but need help on figuring out what types of attacks are supported.
I have my bastard sword set to do crushing damage and have never had an issue. I didn't even realize other damage types didn't work until a few months ago.
I thought it was just crush attacks against the organ
I was disappointed to learn hand crossbows don’t work for attacking the organ since I thought they were cudgels when wielded as melee
I don't know if there's a size limitation on the weapon like there is in a roa'ter or a crawler.
so what weapon bases do 100% crush...
whip, cudgel, mace, ball and chain, quarterstaff/runestaff
Mace seems most relevant to me, given some folks keep them around for skinning out of habit
Maul, if you're going big
But again, I'd be worried about size limitations (though haven't tried, myself)
closed fist should be crush, so why doesn't PUNCH work?
Punch is its own crit table, which I assume is why. But fair question
So: whip, cudgel, mace, ball and chain, runestaff, quarterstaff, war mattock, maul, cestus, knuckle-duster, blackjack.
That's a LOT of types to search for to find on someone. Let me see if I can't do this then. 66 total! Thanks for the assist.
I'd want to find someone with a maul and have them try. I keep getting caught up on the space constraints inside a rift crawler.
I don't think you need 100% crush. I never set my bastard sword to anything other than default and it always damages the organ
And bastard sword implies "dagger size isn't required"
yeah, definitely doesn't have to be small and definetly can be a two handed grip. I've done it plenty.
Maul works fine, spear doesn't work at all. (Just tried)
I know mace and runestaff work
wyrm dead
Got to announce wyrm first before announcing its dead.
Perhaps any weapon that can do crush damage works even without selecting a type?
Could always try to attack with existing weapon in hand, if doesn't work, try to find something we know for sure will instead.
Can you ATTACK with fists?
pretty sure I've tried attack, and punch, and neither worked
spikestar
Morning stars can puncture. You know, with the spikes an all 😁
I only included types that ONLY do crush damage. But if any weapon that could possibly do crush in it's dmg type, then yes, morning stars would also fit (which is what a spikestar is)
this was an act of self preservation because thats what i use lmao
I ran the numbers for this wyrm, and got 145 damage per "diverts" health restore assuming 10k base (26 "diverts," 13772 total damage). So given the ~15 minute wyrm fight, it's recovering about 300ish health a minute.
Think I have a working PR for bigshot to auto attack and get out. https://github.com/elanthia-online/scripts/pull/1242/files
Handaxe doesn't work, but a knife does.
To escape the ooze? Like a dagger knife?
That sounds exactly backwards. The organ requires a crush weapon
I think this is topical? Was playing around with Midjourney for personal use out of curiosity to see if I could figure out how precise prompts could be directed and whether experience as an art director would carry over to AI. So, one of the things I decided to try was to generate a depiction of Myharl and the wyrm in the Hinterwilds. After a lot of nudging, and a bit of coaxing this ended up being the result. Was an interesting experiment. Didn't want to post it in the art thread, but felt like it was fun enough to share here.
that is pretty epic
Love it. But I’ve never seen you turn your back to a Wyrm.
wt spin Warrior Guild spin attack. 😉
Lore checks out. Proceed.
I could have it backwards. Next time I get swallowed I'll try it. The best answer is "beseech plate"
can you symb return from being swallowed?
Nope, must get yourself out or be consumed!
Beseech armor ftw
tested that it works there?
Ok, that's the second time a warrior has mentioned Beseech armor. Darn it Kerl and Jaysehn, what secert warrior thing are you two doing that I don't know about. I was starting to think you'd both secretly become paladins and were doing their Beseech ability.
Voln armor iirc
2x/day Symbol of Return ability that works while stunned/immobile/webbed - normal favor cost. Must already possess knowledge of Symbol. Activated with BESEECH.
Normal SYM OF RETURN doesn't work there and you're not stunned/immobile/webbed. Makes me wonder if using the BESEECH ability (if it works for escaping) is a BUG or use as intended.
Darn it, I always forget about that. My monk has max tier voln robes. I even have it macroed. Of course being a monk he just doesn't get into too much trouble. lol
Given it works in the other circumstances you mention, seems possible it's working on purpose.
If it worked like normal symbol of return, why would they even have it? It's working as intended.
Yup. Tier 4 voln armor
Its also how I get out of Sympathy
So, I just got back from a hunt, had healed down at the herbalist, sold my gems and skins, dropped off my boxes, and was selling stuff in the pawnshop when this happened and knocked Myharl prone in the FWI pawnshop front room...A tattooed gigas berserker lets you slip from her grip, sending you tumbling to the ground.Weird.
She’s a long way from home
Well, why are you bringing a berserker in to the pawnshop?
I made a new friend, I suppose.
haha I saw you on the ground and just quietly tiptoed by you thinking... "He must have his reasons..... what a weirdo" 😛
You'll note that I had just sold everything off from the hunt and was at extreme encumbrance. 😄 Took me a min to finally get back up on my feet.
In seriousness, please do bug that in game if you haven’t already. If you recall getting gripped and then being able to leave the room, do note that and it falling off while you were outside HW.
Sure thing! I was just digging in my log to see if I could figure where/when it happened. What I suspect (but haven't spotted yet) is that the berserker had me in her grip when a valravn threw Myharl one of those nightmare visions and sent him running into the adjacent room. When I figure it out, I'll bug it with details.
So reguarding the weirdness with the gigas berserker mentioned above... I... don't even know how I would fit this into a bug or what I would bug exactly... so just posting the details here so there's record, and I'll bug the room I fought the berserker in with a link to this post.
The last interaction I had with the berserker was an attack that did not kill her (see below), in the middle of a non-focused mstrike during a berserk [at 21:47 ET in Fjallarhaart, Ruins L#-30003]
/// ...other targets in mstrike ///
You take aim and swing a glowing white sacred warsword at a tattooed gigas berserker!

A tattooed gigas berserker falls to the ground grasping her mangled left leg!
** Emerging from your sacred warsword, a fiery spectral maiden coalesces and launches straight toward a tattooed gigas berserker, engulfing her in a searing sphere of fire! **
... 25 points of damage!
Flames burn hole in chest exposing ribs!
/// more targets in mistrike... ///```
[In the middle of Myharl's berserk non-focused mstrike, the berserker attempted to grab him.. and did, but he broke free]
```[SMR result: 198 (Open d100: 187, Penalty: 1)]
Stooping down from her vast height, a tattooed gigas berserker reaches toward you with a gigantic fist! Massive fingers close around your midsection as the berserker tries to squeeze the life out of you!
... 1 point of damage!
Attempt to snare chest shrugged off.
The berserker lifts you into the air, trapping you in her huge fist! You strain forward with all your might and manage to tear your way through the restraints holding your legs in place!"```
[Somewhere in the next 5 seconds the berserker ended up in the "dead" state. There was no message regarding her death or anything else about the berserker. But seeing her dead I searched her and foud a "thin orc hide vest" on the corpse.]
```You search the gigas shield-maiden.
You discard the shield-maiden's useless equipment.
She didn't carry any silver.
She had a shard of streaked blue spectrolite on her!
Interesting, she carried a thin orc hide vest on her.
She had nothing else of value.
Rot consumes a brawny gigas shield-maiden's body, leaving little behind.
The orc hide vest is important, because the following happened when I was unloading from the hunt, when I took the vest out and inspected it
[at 21:49 ET in in Cendadric's Collectibles L#-16352 (Mist Harbor pawnshop front room)]
>get vest
You remove a thin orc hide vest from in your scale cloak.
>inspect vest
You carefully inspect your orc hide vest.
You estimate that a thin orc hide vest can store a small amount with enough space for several items.
You determine that you could wear the vest anywhere on your body. The vest appears to serve some purpose.
A tattooed gigas berserker lets you slip from her grip, sending you tumbling to the ground. ***
>look at vest
You see nothing unusual.
>sell vest
You offer to sell your orc hide vest to Cendadric.
Cendadric takes your orc hide vest, glances at it briefly, then hands you 937 silver coins.
>"Ah, what?
You deeply ask, "Ah, what?"
*** This caused Myharl to be laying down in the pawnshop floor.
[End of Weirdness]
Hilarious. She just wanted that sweet vest back.
Orc hide vests are all the rage this season.
Anyone use somnis in HW? Does it have SSR issues with high level mobs?
I can tell you SSR from Warrior cries and Voln symbols are fairly effective in HW, including against pit of the dead stuff. but don't expect 100% success. I also have max Inf
The success level of warcries is high. No idea how Somnis works, or if it's an appropriate flare. I'm interested in other flare choices though, as I've got 2 weapons that I could use transmute on for some nice impact.
Been a while since I tested, but from back in feb or so, for somnis it's highly highly dependent on your influence, if you actually have capped influence, maybe a bit bonus? it should work with probably 70% success in HW. If you do not, and have say 80 inf for 15 bonus instead of 25, that drops to like 20%.
Like there is a huge difference.
basically if you don't have capped inf perhaps a bit of inf enh, I wouldn't use greater somnis, if you do, it's really really good
Lol I have 80 influence.... tanked stat....
Do I need to add +40 influence to my enhancives set.... has it come to that??
Hopefully I can test it on test server if wyrom does that
yeah, that's the hope
K so DRs here. Can any staff answer my plea on telling us which bane category the wyrm falls under so I can avoid spending a fortune on a single creature bane?
TBH I'm not sure it has a bane category
I don't think it falls into any of the ones I'm aware of at least, it's basically like a worm that cocooned and turned into a flying thing (the undersarmers are larvae form wyrms)
yeah I feel like we have talked about this in the past and there is no reason to think wyrms fall into any bane category, like the majority of enemies in the game just aren't in a bane category
it, also being a boss mob, makes it fairly unique, and even less likely to fit into an existing one
*** WYRM BANE! Coming soon to a DR near you. ***
if this is something you feel strongly about I would recommend finding people with the various category banes and asking them to come swing at the wyrm, it can all be figured out with player testing!
Clearly we need an otherbane
the bane that banes all creatures that do not bane themselves
wouldn't that give a damage boost to (when attacking) most players without high end gear?
seems like wyrm bane wouldn't do anything noticeably useful
Even with as super focused as I am on hunting them, I'm not sure I'd opt for wyrmbane either. Might be fun for a secondary build made specifically for wyrms... like a lance or something else to lean heavy into the dragon/wyrm slaying theme. Would be neat if it worked like those old creature bane weapons that did the double strike thing... (vaguely recall that being related to mandis crystals for some reason, but maybe remembering incorrectly). Bane weighting would be of no use, flares would be mostly pointless, I suppose the AS boost would work, but would be of minimal use.
Because of warriors and their bonding or paladins and their bonding. I've felt that any banes aren't truly worth the hassle due to their singularity. That's just me. I mean, if I could more easily swap out a weapon and not suffer the lack of bonding I'd be more for banes.
Now I want a Player bane, and I don't even PvP.
sometimes I bump my bow AS up by 50 and it's a slight difference :p
See? There is a 100% bane option for this thing. I just don't want to pull that trigger. Noun specific creature bane would cover this thing. And yeah +AS is about the only real bane benefit that'd be useful against it. Flare bane? HA most of the time it won't even work against it.
unironically if you want to figure this out your best bet is to go find players with banes and ask them about their experience with the wyrm and offer to take them for a holiday if they haven't tried it
This is why EPB and UD bane were so popular though, and to a lesser extent magic bane. They work on so many things at cap that you get it a chunk of the time and that's good enough. Obviously UD also had the greater undead bane permabless before sanc/304 on errything existed but, even plain ole lesser undead bane was the second best bane at cap to me. There's always money in the undead stand.

Yes! That's definitely a win. 🙂
Any fight that you can walk away alive versus a wyrm, I'd call a win for sure.
@sharp raptor Wyrm
Ah darn. Probably gone
Opps. Was tied up last night and missed it.
@sharp raptor How many have you killed now? Need to look into a title for you 🙂
I think I'm at about 110. Festivals slowed down the kill count a bit. 😆
100 should get a custom title for sure!
He tracks it on his Wiki page as well. I highly suggest a read over, cause he has tons of stuff on his page.

@sharp raptor Wyrm.
Thanks for the heads up! Hope we get a chance to hunt a wyrm later today. Too early for me yet. My caffeine has not quite landed in the synapses. 😆 ⚔️
Always in that order. Coffee, dragon, blades, banshee scream and then off to battle.

Wow, you took that hit like a champ, it almost looks like you are now a giantman warrior!
is 316 being entirely ineffective vs valravn (as in, it doesn't even register them or try to ward them) a bug or a lore thing
Anomaly damage is disruption and what else?
grapple
No one dies from the grapple right? It feels like there should be a vacuum critical in there, but I don't think there is.
depends on how you look at it I guess. The grapple damage comes first, so usually the killing blow comes from the disruption yeah
the disruption is the worst, but sometimes the grapple seems to stage a bad time for the disruption nothing will protect you from the open roll iirc - not even 40% disruption resists
I gave up my disrupt resist for just that reason
Disrupt, disint, and vacuum res are the crucial ones for HW. Should ascension 10 each min.
Yeah, my experience is the grapple looks horrifically painful, but the disruption kills you.
That’s why I have Ascension 50% disruption resistance on my list of looooong term goals 😉
How much protection does 10 asc resist give, in practice?
I got alot of protections that all seem to synergize but seeing a valvran hit me with 5 instances of damage and they all get resisted and end up being like 1-10 dmg each is satisfying. I got cri padding, damage padding, sigil dmg padding, resist.... tough to say
Im wondering how much value is there with me already having 40% magidux
I still get occasional 3-5 round stuns with 10% disruption resist from the valravn SMR (and 25 CER crit padding), but it's nice to have some protection. Disciple anomalies will kill me easily on an open roll and the 10% doesn't seem to matter much there
The magidux is way better because it’s applied before crit padding whereas resists apply after crit padding, so you have to take a real big hit for resists to really matter
Thats what i was figuring
A silver-scaled cold wyrm focuses her gaze upon a fluffy white cat and lets out an ear-splitting roar that spans multiple octaves!

Unnatural terror descends upon the cat and she opens her mouth for a scream that dies in her throat.
And people say wizard familiars have no combat benefit!

I'm not even sure what that one does 🤷
Now the wyrm has gone too far.

Still think it's wild people are soloing the wyrm. I walked into a room with it this afternoon, didn't try to fight it and got instantly blown up.
Instantly blown up? Damn. Shouldn’t have sold that plate.
Step one to soloing the "current" wyrm, be someone who doesn't need to attack with spells, step two, have high redux and plate or 750+ ds, step 3 don't get sympathied and killed by other critters.
285 dmg with what looks like an mstrike to be specific. it stopped when I died, or he might have gotten a high score😆

The other thing that helps fighting it tremendously if you can deal enough damage, is the earth shield ability from essence belts, as it'll block the first set of hits from it. That's my plan if we ever need to kill it for ascension stuff. Go group with a couple warrior friends and immune myself for a bit and hope they win haha
Yeah, the answers are: warrior redux, or massive DS. And apparently barkskin:
A silver-scaled cold wyrm lashes out with a scythe-like talon at WARRIOR!
A crackling crystal blue latticework springs up from the surface of WARRIOR's augmented chain and shields him from some of the damage!
Some ensigiled augmented chain partially deflects the onslaught of the slashing attack.
The layer of bark on WARRIOR hardens and absorbs the attack! The bark crackles as it crumbles to dust.

this was awesome to see though:

I haven't solo'd, for the record, but it does feel good to see some investments paying off:
The thorny barrier surrounding you blocks the attack from the cold wyrm!

the high DS really helps me - but I still take 200 end rolls sometimes
Having a defensive build really pays off. Those shots are in full leather - I can't even imagine how easy it would be in robes with 1202 and maxed lore. Crush (25%), acid(40%), and cold(25%) resists are good for its SMR attacks.
Having any strong CS casters around you is a high liability when they inevitably get Sympathied

DS: +329 <----- This needs to be like a constant 1k, so its in line with its TD.
is the rooting from the combo of multiple sigil items?
It would be funny if it wasn’t so sad how over tuned wyrm TD is. It doesn’t seem like warding casters will ever be able to meaningfully participate in killing them ¯_(ツ)_/¯
but isn't the encounter being somewhat reworked?
Last we knew, yes, but no indication that any of the rework would involve changes to the TD
if we're balancing to the %1 warders we should balance to the 1% melee 🤷
shhh, you are going to get sigil nerfed.... not supposed to post that part!
does someone have a milking pail I can borrow
To collect all the CS caster tears? I hear they can be used to improve weapon forging and increase AS.
oh personal attacks cool.
But it's ok when you do it? I mean, I took it as humor myself.
or maybe ignore the wyrm as a carnival game until it matters?
Ok, enough with the back and forth, please.
No more personal than suggesting square AS should be balanced to a 1% success. As someone who's been playing a warrior since before redux and SMR and all of the other improvements we've had, I can sympathize with your being unable to hit wyrms, and that should be fixed. It's worth noting that your TTK is probably about 1/3rd of a squares based on the loot returns you shared here, so you're still in some ways miles ahead of squares.
I can do just fine with it, I didnt say TD needed a nerf i said the DS needed a buff, its pretty clear that its being solo'd which isnt the goal of it using the AS DS system
Folks, could we please leave it at that? The Wyrm is what it is until it's something else. The argument doesn't need further beating
Its a public forum i'll keep sharing my personal feelings on what I'd like to see with it. Players or staff dont have to agree with it thats fine.
Very few people can solo a wyrm. Earthdiver (a wizard) is apparently having some good success, and I appreciate him sharing his methods. I'm not going to cry about it because I haven't yet solo'd a wyrm, I'm going to pay attention to what's working for him.
Your personal feelings are always welcome. But you're also savvy and smart enough to know that you're chumming the water. I'd like you to stop, please. Same goes for Kerl.
Its awesome that people can solo it, but I think its pointing out areas that need to strengthen up for it. I am fine to not be able to hit it 100% of the time even on the top end. I would expect that from what the intention of this mob is.
gg, skill diff. They really do need an SMRv TD lowering sorc skill, when is the sorc review again?
I don't think there exists a configuration whereby I, as a cleric (and formerly as an empath) could even consider solo'ing the wyrm, which is fine since you're not supposed to be able to do that, but I'd like to at least be able to consistently damage it as part of a group
We're adults we can talk and move past it.
I'm sorry you feel opening up a discusion that might have people not agreeing is "chummimg the waters" though.
I am happy to discuss the finer points of the mechanics without commentary that is attacking.
Outside moving the DS dial it could maybe just have tons of resistance unless x people are in the room with it. If the goal remains a group fight.
It's always a sign that a system works really well when others want to copy it. I think CS casters should be able to have success without needing SMRs.
just make the SMRv scale off spell aim like clerics have... seem to work. Its really the ascension folks with issues which means they should have the TPs
We have 715 which is -25 td no roll but even still its TD is tuned through the roof, mostly as a result that its hard to push down TD where other systems have lots of options. Maybe the spell disbaler reivew will adress some of that
Wizards can excel at AS/Smrv/ and mutant Cs.... sorcs should also be able to excel in CS/smrv and maybe mutant weird AS
715 not scaling in any way is wild
715 is one of the best TD pushdowns though, so the fact that it also leads the pack....
Technically if it did scale it would give sorcerers better scaling than any other pure in the CS/TD space
It stances to attack then tack on a status effect or two and gg DS
Because they’d be scaling with level twice
25 TD in most cases is a lot of TD
715 doesn't scale but it at least can actually hit without needing to ward the thing, lol.
The only downside is the lack of a mass version, but with warding when I mass interference I rarely get more than 50% my targets, which is only a lot better in... my... cases
It acts like a disabler/setup. It's just not enough in this context
Anyway I would agree that it’s not much fun to not be able to ward the wyrm on your best day because it’s not like you can pull out the second best tool from your bag
Short of buying spellbooks I ain't getting any more CS, and even then it wouldn't be a lot in the grand scheme of things. The wyrm's TD is just out of bounds and needs to be lowered
Oddly I could pull out the second and third best tool from my kit and hit it more
Well okay you could haha
You have an extraordinary kit. But maybe that's ok? I don't know what the bar should be.
You could take like 50 off the wyrm's TD and it would still be difficult to hit
How high can sorcs get their bolt AS? time to switch strategies for the Wyrm!
When you do hit, do you hit twice as hard? (Honest question, I don't play in this league)
I could go full Goat and bring a lance and an animate and bolt. But it still leaves warding down and out which isnt great. Im also sitting on 110m exp so other might not have said flexability
you could dispel flux it to death. bring snacks
the wyrm is going to one day be the entry point for charms, so we're going to need to be able to participate in the fight in some way to get charms. I am okay saying you need like 7x, several million xp, whatever in order to start doing charms, but I would be pretty bummed if I needed a spellbook to do charms
It's an ascension hunting area, and wyrms are the pinnacle. The bar should be high for everyone.
and it's certainly concerning if a spellbook is insufficient haha
I can 711 it too and just bring snacks
The last time I bothered going near a wyrm, no, not at all. It's immune to all but the raw concussion damage portion of 1115, lol. So I was hitting for like 40 damage if I did hit at all. I wonder if it's the same with 317
Sure. But it's definitely fair to say the bars are in different places today.
Yes, that's 100% fair. I think part of the dilemma is that it's really difficult to balance for both CS and AS.
I full agree with this
and I think it's perfectly good feedback to say "the wyrm's TD is so high I can't even interact with it"
And they can stay in different places: there is certainly other content where it's the other way. But Tikba's point about charms entry resonates
Again to be clear I dont want the TD lower i want the DS higher 😂
one day.... maybe tomorrow maybe 2033 🤣 Melivn will have 200m exp by then
TD being super high would make sorta sense if the wyrm could be death crit. But it can't. So the fact that a 1115/317/719 can be leathal on a 130 endroll really isn't relevant. The wyrm is a non-crittable damage sponge. Let us hit the thing
Forcing its defense up where people can miss means it becomes a true bring your friends fight youll need them
But then how will warmages hit it without a 700AS
Maybe the wyrm's TD should be like a spell that gives it +100 TD but can be broken after excessive magical hits/cast and then when it breaks it regens slowly back to 100 over time. Woohoo more hoops for sorcs!
The wyrm is the sole thing I dislike about Hinterwilds currently, because when it shows up, if it's in the zone I'm working on a bounty in, it's like "cool gonna afk 15 mins hope it despawns or Myharl kills it" because even if I go with a group I can't do anything
Demons 2.0
I still think the wyrm should just have a state where trying to melee attack it SMRs you and a state where trying to cast on it SMRs you
if we really want to go for broke it should SMR everybody when one person does the raid wrong but let's do that for the next wyrm maybe
I think the "I can't hit it without spell books" is interesting, too. If it's the entry point to charms, maybe it's ok you have to go rent extraordinary gear for an hour? I hadn't thought about that.
I don't think that's generally ok. But this is kind of a weird case.
I don't think they have rent to own for spellbooks!
Things LIKE the wyrm are a good gateway to charms. I don't know that I like the idea of it being the only one. The Hive could have a different boss that's more tuned for warders possibly?
I can hit it, just not reliably, and just not meaingfully hard when I do land a hit. I have 0 spellbooks and that's unlikely to change. I have max worn wisdom, max ascension wisdom, 12x acuity, and mana infused armor. so for 3 minutes every 15 minutes I can kinda sorta land bad dinky hits on it. lol
depends if the goal is "no one can solo it," or "most people cannot reasonably solo it."' introducing cutthroat mechanics to prevent any hope of soloing is kind of boring, imo
I also think as I have said before that if they really don't want anybody soloing the wyrm they should give it cman garrote
or the equivalent!
You gesture at a silver-scaled cold wyrm.
CS: +590 - TD: +588 + CvA: +25 + d125: +57 == +84
looks great, fun and engaging
I'm still amazed warmages CAN hit those numbers in a spell sever situation. Earthdiver is a beast.
and I'd be all for lowering the TD as long as people aren't landing crazy (200-500) damage hits. i think the target should probably be like 50-150 damage a strike. i think waylay can be outside of this target range, along with DC or Pain
Thats 50 CS over base sorc CS
So there's "can I hit it", "can I survive it", and "will having me there kill all my friends because of sympathy"
Please dont make me go get mstrike logs where all the hits are like 200+
Geijon mstriked it for like 2500 damage on test
Wyrm sympathy is a maneuver, so there’s at least a path to blocking it
I don't know enough about mstrike damage and RT to average it out to a 1-3 second strike. it's probably still a bit high - i agree
How silly would it be to load up sigil with your native spells just for the CS boost on the wyrm (or is that already being attempted)?
Cute, literally never occurred to me (may be common, I don't know)
wyrm needs redux?
it would also let you take 515 without worrying about cooldown or an SK, but you're not solo if you have a wizard laying around so kinda moot there
I mean its an idea but, I'd sort of circle around to is this good monster design if we're requiring them to jump through this ranom hoop on a pay item.
Soloing is a little bit of a red herring, though
oh, it's not. I'm just being a Tinker. If I use 5 auction grade items to fight it, that's not a good solution
10 more CS from the sigil staff scroll would still put me missing on a 57 roll by 7 points too
I'd rather a weird training requirement than a pay item. Like have side-by-side work on CS or something
sympathy undermines most groups anyway - so it's a weird creature to cast as "needs a group." any warder would kill me in a heartbeat if they get sympathied
TD should already be getting pushed down by FoF, shouldn't it?
it should be but since the mob is so tuned up it really doesnt play out base on its level
in theory although we must all be providing like half a point of FoF, yeah
The only other thing I could think of is using the alchemy CS boost potions but you'd still be chugging two of them per shot. It's not fun/good. If they lasted for a few casts I'd call them a good option. Like... using some consumables on a boss is acceptable game design to me.
also during testing he added in a like enrage feature if the group got over X people which doesnt really bode well for FoF, I took 4 people out to the pits and I couldnt FoF a disir (its been a while since ive tested this though and im unsure anything happened to fix or change it)
like if the wyrm is level 120 and has 70 MOC then having ten people attacking the wyrm at once would lower its TD by 3, very approximately
in any event, its cool people can solo it. I dont really care one way or another if the TD comes down, but I'd like to see everyone no matter the system of combat they are using basically be in the same boat on how often they should be hitting this thing. If I should only be getting hits in like 30% of the time thats cool, but I think its fair that everyone is in that boat on the top end then. If thats not the goal then yea the TD needs to be adjusted some what.
It's also poor design resolution in my opinion.
I appreciate that it still has relatively normal mechanics
just based off that one attack you showed at 81 damage in 1 second that means your doing 243 damage per my one cast and 405 damage per a 5 second melee RT. just food for though here.
y u want me nerfed broski
do you know how many yards i had to cut this summer for all this drip
how is this a nerf to anyone? its a buff to monsters!
yeah, it works pretty well
i'm sure everyone will be able to do decent damage to it once a mechanic is gated behind it
719 doesnt do close to that damage on the wyrm just fyi. 711 is consistant though
i would expect 200+ damage from each cast of DC or pain, judging from my stalker logs of people hunting in the Pits
(i'm watching all of you)
719 hits outside a few mobs is rare to see over 200 damage most of the time. Also you can only get so many casts off before it become 19 mana 702. pain is CAPPED at 200 damage for reasons.
DC will do over 200 damage to angry ghost that is true its one of the few mobs ive see it on.
Sigil flares and suddenly pain becomes 400 damage a hit, too. I haven't seen someone with a starsong'd staff yet, but that was adding 36ish damage a hit for me in Fjallarhaart
I was running briefcombat in reim the other day and landed a massive hit and I was like what the heck?! but looking back through the raw log it was a twined casted from sigil and I was like ohhh okay... 😂
losing surita for starsong after talking about how we cant land hits often with CS seems counter productive to me 😄 in terms of the wyrm.
Starsong won't work on the wyrm. Just thinking of damage-adding flares
That said, starsong is probably one of the best flares for wyrms because of the crowd control. At least for me
Won't work well, anyway. Some flares still get through on the wyrm
Just wait for it to be available as a cat B, or something that works similarly.
But the wyrm is absolutely anti FlareStone V, which really makes my Flare Incarnate gnome very sad.
I have no flares, other than S6 flares. Different builds for different people. I am tempted by starsong though
Looking back at one of my logs, my animal flares did 3.6% of the total damage to a wyrm
If I'm thinking of this right, a sigil staff double flare would raise that to 12.5% (from just the sigil staff)?
you need to land the hit though
I'm sure you'll hit the wyrm once it's ready

Need somebody whose job is to send mana to the wyrm to keep DC damage high
OH NO THE FUZZ
Raise what to 12.5%?
Wait... is that honestly gma? It costs the player mana
It's not possible, so it's whatever you want it to be!
(I'm mostly giving Tikba grief)
Why would it be GMA? Also: "woop woop, it's the sound of the police"
I thought it was a good idea!
You can’t actually do it to mobs, doing it to players to 917 them would probably be many kinds of policy violations haha
It's pure hypothetical since you can't actually do that.
does demeanor disallow mana sharing? If so... then how is it policy violation, they should have set their demeanor properly!
The wyrm now regards you in a cold demanor.
The 917 is a violation. So get a monster to do it for you
It would genuinely be fun if savants had a spell that did damage and gave you mana to enable fancy combos but that’s way off topic
If burst had a drain component?
The metric was total damage done by the flare, relative to the wyrm health pool
This guy is pretty great. These are all consecutive hits and Pain did 200 each time.
Ah! Yeah close to that on average. Reduced minimally by other damage sources like flares, and echoes eaten up by non-direct damage spells
Above post not intended to complain, critique, or anything of that sort. Simply admiring the efficiency. But it's where my 200 figure came from earlier
XXX is pretty great
This is a family game.
I have to turn the camera off when he goes into the blood sinkhole
yea pain is capped at 200 its always going to do that with those end rolls on mobs with more than 600 HP and cherry picking just angargeist is gonna always be bigger hits as I noted for whatever reason they take the most damage from DC i've seen in the game.
Sickest name for it I’ve ever read
The corridor opens into a wide cavern with a sinkhole full of sluggish, frothing blood at its heart. It is fed by a steady drip of sanguine fluid from the rock ceiling, a jagged snarl of red-smeared stalactites and cragged stone.
Obvious exits: northeast, southeast, southwest, west
You wave to a blood-filled sinkhole.
also tell your friend they can get away with two DCs and a 705 on the angry bois and save some time and mana
Honestly I’d appreciate the challenge
I honestly think the Sybil is just as good a gateway as the wyrm. The wyrm is freely available. The sybil requires very rare drops and a puzzle solve
where do i find it, where can i kill it
I can dm you. Its a puzzle
All this talk about hitting and killing the wyrm, and I'm still trying to survive more than 15 seconds in the same room 😆

@sharp raptor wyrm
I noticed the documentation said you to attack the organ inside the ooze if you are absorbed by one. I tried both melee and UAC and neither worked. What kind of attack does work?
You strike at the amorphous organ with your vultite slasher, but the spongey amorphous organ is impervious to this kind of attack!
Roundtime: 5 sec.
Melee works, but we think it needs to be a weapon that can do crush damage
you need a blunt instrument
Well. Sometimes blunt. Things that are "crush sometimes" seem to work also
But no spears, daggers, etc
Will add a blunt weapon to my harness as I have the blunt weapon skill and that is an easy fix for me. Not sure what others would do if they do not have the skill. Thanks for the information.
It's not clear to me whether you need the skill. If you do testing, let us know. It may be like daggers in a worm belly, where the weapon matters and the wielder doesn't.
Would a maul or war mattock be better?
I will go on the test server at some point and try out both. Will let you know the result.
no skill needed (I bash with my runestaff with no 2hw), but yeah anything that does crush don't think it matters too much
Maul works fine, so there's not a size constraint I'm aware of
You don't, my monk has no blunt weapon training and has always kept a drake mace in his shroud for when he gets eaten by an ooze. My pures just use their runestaff
No weapon skill needed. I thought it was funny that the space in the ooze is so tight you can’t open a cloak, but you have enough room to hit with a lance.
A mace would be lighter. I don’t think weapon base is relevant with regard to damage
@sharp raptor 🐉
monster flesh should give you some kind of ability to consume the ooze if it eats you
Thinking about trying Hinterwilds for the first time ever. As a 2.5x capped solo-hunting sorcerer, what advice would you have so I don't get curb-stomped?
Don't let gigas disciples do anything. Otherwise have fun
stay down in boreal forest for now
The “I don’t really have enough exp or gear to be here” sorcerer move seems to be carpet bombing the gigas village with open voids and run around a lot, you could try that (I don’t actually know how a 2.5x sorc will do in Hinterwilds I just find the voids everywhere funny)
I do like to drop open voids. Always a fun and effective tactic. 🙂
It's kind of annoying to everyone else.
Aren't open voids player friendly now?
Yes. I’m not sure why anyone would be bothered by them, it’s free crowd control
If you're trying to collect skins and everything is all bruised up, it's annoying, because it lowers your bounty value. They don't do enough damage to control crowds. I'm not having a fit or anything, just suggesting that there might be a better way.
few statistics from my 2nd solo wyrm kill: bow fire flare mech quiver briar flare spikethorn vine lynx volley all count 86 5 16 19 21 17 15 5 184 avg 79.7 8.0 25.6 26.8 83.3 9.2 5.1 9.0 53.5 total 6853 40 410 510 1750 157 77 45 9842I found spikethorn surprisingly effective, definitely worth tossing in for those 1 sec casts (from 625 proc)
note that the mech quiver flares every shot (~80 total due to barrage) with only 16 doing damage, so the wyrm's scale shield thingy is blocking about 80% of elemental flares
in retrospect, the single most important thing enabling a solo kill for me was simply having ~750 DS in offensive, which I was able to reach with the recent addition of dodge enhancives and use of an item supercharger boost
high DS, high acid, cold, and crush resist will do it. and uh...some way to hurt it. adequate crowd control is also really important. taking on the wyrm is much easier in some places than others
I wonder when Wyrm 2.0 is going to get released, the one that freezes solo'rs and punks them
Yeah implosion is by far our best CC in hinterwilds, it's more effective than 709 or 410, so I use it a lot on swarms to CC for a bit while I do other stuff
For all the hype, a lot of the Hinterwilds is fairly normal hunting that just happens to have much bigger numbers. Don't go into undead areas if you don't have the means to avoid sheer fear. Don't let anything cast. Ideally, don't let anything do anything, since I'm going to assume you haven't maxed Dodging, CM, and Perception all at 2.5x cap. Bring quartz orbs, bring BOOST ENHANCIVE STATS if you need, bring small statues, bring whatever it takes to get the job done.
Edit: I don't mean "fairly normal hunting" as an insult, by the way--it's actually a compliment. I don't like the more out there designs like the Confluence where you have to contend with not just environmental hazards, but also RT for moving, weapon heating and freezing, constantly shifting rooms, possibly entering on the wrong side, making yourself unhittable but not too unhittable or else you get dispelled on a missed attack, and whatever else I've forgotten. Not that the Confluence is even hard, mind you, but I just find it extremely annoying.
I hate it when hunting areas are annoying for the sake of annoyance.

Well done.
This is accurate imo and also why its a fun ground. Despite the attempts to make ‘group zones’ in GS, I still think screen scroll makes meaningful group content nearly pointless. Getting beyond one or two hunting partners makes the strategy of group play impossible imo
Keeping it soloable, by intent or accident, is part of its appeal.

glances at 711 k.
711 isn't subject to EBP, nor does it require a 495 endroll 😉 (but the cap should still be higher)
Realistically, most sorcs can't even ward the wyrm reliably, let alone get 711 margins.
The 711 nerf was, frankly, a terrible move. It doesn't effect much but it was done years early and without a single positive attached to it.
it's "balanced" now.
it did probably need to be capped, cap was set too low (should of been 200, but let necro lore raise it) Also we were told kinda at the time "don't worry you'll get some other neat ways for dealing with high HP things in the sorc review" which TBF were there... but of course like all development for the past two years has stalled out into oblivion So who knows when it'll come to pass again.

Through armor, crush, slash and pierce at 20. Through ascension, 10 disruption and 10 impact. The pits are a walk in the park but gigas disciples still can one shot my bard. Had one open roll an anomaly on entering the room and splat.
Not sure what other people’s experience is, but the disciples either die in one second or kill my bard in a second. It’s either the anomaly or mana burst that gets me
My bard had a similar issue even at 50m exp with similar resists in 15/15 padded Aug chain
I mean, open roll anomaly just kills
I hunt disciples a lot of my sorc, and it is very rare I die, but it's always an open roll anomaly that does it if it does happen.

Not sure what happened two months ago, but Melivn evil eyed my bard so hard in HW that he wound up dead in the landing. That was a funny bug report
I would guess that was a double cast due to sigil where the first evil eye sent you running until you get to the landing and the followup cast being the instakill
If that's so... do not "fix" that. That is hilarious and a feature.
If it’s pertinent, I accessed HW from illistim. If it’s based on realms, the journey would have been: was terrified and ran out of HW into Illistim, crossed the Dragonspines, and dropped dead at the North gate of the landing. Looking over the logs, it was a single cast at almost 600CS against bard TD (not worth mentioning…)

Got it back. Thanks.
I'm curious how that happened.
It looks like fear is supposed to drop you off at the runestone if you're in the Hinterwilds.
Where were you feared?
In the Boreal Forest. Instakill after the cast and wound up at North gate of the landing.
Not sure if this is relevant, but I recall the sorcerer who cast evil eye being stunned when I was zipping from room to room and there was a golem in there with him.
Having trouble finding this information, but what exactly were the rules on setting bounties to higher levels in the Hinterwilds? Every 1 level above 5 actually equals 2 over 5 here?
I think when it gets to HW the actual answer "There's a difference?"
Well, the reason I ask is I've noticed I haven't been getting disir, valravn, angargeist, disciple, or undandsormr bounties. It makes me think that I must have known how it worked before and set in a range that would avoid the latter three, but now that premium accounts can pull new bounties every 10 minutes, I'm okay with taking the risk of getting the last three since I want the first two.
You need it maxed to get those I think
I believe it works normally but there's no limit if it's maxed so if theoretically there was a lvl 200 critter you could get that
For ascension bounties, but maybe there is/was a formula for it? I swear I didn't ever get a desire bounty too I raised mine all the way it would go
I maxed my bounties for months. I still get boreal stuff just as much as anything else
it doesn't raise the minimum, only the maximum (that's always how bounty system worked AFIAK

hmm. any chance we can up the max sales price? Was tasked a gem bounty and several of them could not be sold.
Doesn’t the gem shop buy stuff up to 50k?
I appraised the gem and it wasn’t crazy ~ 18K. elf with 35 Inf bonus, 201 trading ranks. No enhancives or ascension ranks in either INF or trading
Did you mark the gem somehow?
I don’t believe so as they could still be sold at the pawnshop. I had three gems that were unsellable at the gem shop and were appraised by my bard to be in the 18k range. The other time I remember this happening was the occasional confluence core that needed to be pawned as well
confluence cores can be expensive enough you won't be able to sell them (to gem). i get it maybe 1 in 250 or so

I think they get like a big time DF buff or something when that happens. wargs are actually one of the more deadly things in HW
In a pack they are absolute murderbeasts. You can't let them stack up and make them the priority.
Possibly!
I really like how if you keep your bounty difficulty at 5up/5down you only get bounties for these 2 areas. HW is such a well designed area.
Id like an option to only get bounties for the pit/fjal and berserkers end
10 up only would be a nice option.
Aside from wyrms or mitigating an out of control grizzled ooze swarm, a spectral warg packmother is the only critter that Myharl has put out a call to fellow hunters about. It ended up immune to all his damage types and unreasonably buffed. They are absolutely deadly in any iteration, but especially once they get buffed/packed up. That encounter is literally the reason Myharl turns off the Lich's Curse on his necrotic ring now when he's hunting in the Hinterwilds.
Intended!
They are a great example of something deadly but not obnoxious. Well, they can be, if you screw up and they kill you lol
The RT howl stack can be obnoxious, but thats just RT being RT
"A heavily armored battle mastodon rides a heavily armored battle mastodon in, the mastodon limping with every great step." No wonder it was limping.
The gigas circus is in town....
I've never been able to track this particular issue down. It is super frustrating but it's also almost impossible to recreate.
I’m not sure I agree that it’s an issue that needs fixing 😁
If you fixed it then for the mastodons it would be impossible to procreate.
I don't think we should start worrying until we see a grizzled ooze riding another grizzled ooze
I say leave it. Its goofy GS hysterics
At this point it's not a bug, it's a feature
And this is how we get more mastodons.
It just bothers me that it keeps happening with no reason!
Wow, now baby mastodons are "no reason"

The most important lesson from this is that's how like 30% of bugs in all software get fixed
1) That can't happen.
2) How did that happen?
3) There's no way that can happen.
4) Oh. That's why.
5) How did that even work in the first place? <— Auchand is now here.

7 minute abs just doesn't make sense. No one wants 7 minute abs.
I'd honestly rather see the thing just drop some rare mats or something. Wyrm claw. Wyrm scales. Wyrm fang. Wyrm heart. At different levels of rarity. Like have it always drop a few Wyrm scales. Then the others are rarer drops
That would be pretty cool, then you could do something with the alter fodder

You're going to get ascension bounties, and won't be able to opt out until you cap
not doing bounties at 1st
Hang out in boreal forest until you get the hang of things and if you see bright yellow letters about something flying in the skies, rest in the den for a few (avoid the wyrm for now). Can be hard to get a rez if you die. Stock up some on deeds and salves.
The crazy thing about HW is you would think that staying in the low area is the safest but with ambush defense-pushdown, sometimes the halflings can get you just at the right time and crit big or give you nasty poison at 50 health per round.
wild to jump into the deep end of stuff at 97.
There is a lot of smr stuff that will schlack a 97 wiz. Just understand that going in. Hinterboar charges. Warg howls. Etc
Take advantage of wildfire oil upgrades at Sparkfinger’s. As well as frostbite protection options
Good point. Stock up on a few undisease items/scrolls
Just started poking around Hinterwilds after hunting in Moonsedge a bit too much- gotta say it's lots of fun!
Anyone else notice monsterbold messaging about alerting the gigas to your presence?
No? Paste an example?
Don’t keep logs unfortunately. Ummmm, I attacked a giga in the eastern village and immediately below the combat line there was a yellow monsterbold message saying something to the effect of:
Your actions have disturbed the peace of the village and the gigas have been alerted to your presence!
I hunt there all of the time and this was definitely something new. Could be that a GM was testing something…?
Got the same message in Eldurhaart. Didn’t notice anything else that was out of the ordinary in terms of spawn rate, etc.
huh. never seen that ever and I hunt Fjall all the time
maybe it's a mini boss gen
Haven’t seen it since the one time this afternoon. I suspect very highly that they were testing something. Glad I wasn’t the only one who noticed it
That's gotta be new. Been hunting HW since it opened, never seen that. Kind of makes me think of the Warcamp mechanic where the scout notifies the camp when you pull up
Warcamps were exactly what it reminded me off too
Lots of new faces in HW lately. Gonna get swaaaarmy 😄
Anyone who rests in the Pipe Den and doesn't want to be spammed to death 24/7 by gem singing, I got you covered on your ignore strings. I finally did this today and oh my god it's so much better:Songz sings a melody, directing the sound of his voice at When the song ends, you notice A swirling cloud of shadow forms around Songz's right hand as he prepares a spell Songz peers intently at Songz put Songz removes
Would be nice if people just didn’t purify gems in a crowded node. Bit of a common courtesy, ya know?
That would definitely be nice!
This is why I don't rest in there. Cemetary ftw. not a node, but I don't care 😄
Honestly I think a few tables would be great. You can't force socialization or change the fact that people generally hunt then alt-tab or go AFK for a while. Lack of tables means Pipe Den is full of characters but typically completely silent aside from scroll gem-singing. Teras eventually got tables after decades of holding out, I hope Cold River gets them sooner than that.
some people are awful and inconsiderate! 🤷♂️
Well...this is my reason for 'every room in a town should be a supernode' argument
Yeah or this. By far this.
Its not 1998 anymore. Like you correctly said, people who want to socialize will. And lots of people now are multitaskers, not players. I can be playing, and resting is when I answer a work email or something.
Some people complain that tables also removed an important element of the social critical mass from the game. They have to find a balance between ways to avoid mass crowds, but ways to maintain some crowd
I don't honestly think a crowd where I assume most everyone is AFK is a crowd at all. It discourages interaction, not encourages. I am far less inclined to RP if I think I'm dragging people away from other AFK-driven tasks.
Right, I am sure that has been an element of the equation since the beginning
I don’t think people were afk as much in the days where you paid $1.99 an hour haha
In the nicest possible way I don’t think you can bug afk people because they are afk
While I didn't collect statistics, it was actually pretty common for people to be afk in public places. But I think public outcry about it was also a lot stronger.
My preferred solution is still to have a node where you get a mana discount for buffing yourself and apparently for purifying gems, away from the main node. But this is off the HW topic
I almost bought a tent just so I could have some space to myself away from all the noise. Maybe that's the secret, they want that tent $$$$
I have considered parking my cleric in the tent to sanct it to make it a node
I'm on team "throw tables into the Pipe Den and call it a day."
That said, yeah, I only entered that Trove tent raffle because I saw Maodan using his in Cold River. Would have no use for it otherwise. 🤣
they are useful in something like the scatter too, anywhere you can't really move in and out easily
This is what i do in HW. Just put up my tent
My spacious pewter tent in the graveyard. I even have the spot saved in go2 as hwcamp
I'd rather squelch the planet than sit in a non-node tho...
That but non-supernode
Heh. Well, ill go back to ‘everywhere in town should be a supernode’
i think we just need to accept reality and make a flag that denotes whether you're an engaged, active, and want to play old-school GS where you interact w/ people and then one that turns your name into your race/class "a human warrior", and all the AFK people can be squelched and essentially be the NPC's they are and the RP'ers will know any name they see is a real person. This benefits the people who want to reallyy play because they wont waste their time interacting with AFK people or saving AFK people, etc.
If only there were separate servers.
If you are dead and AFK more than once, you just go on the blacklist
I more or less agree
Not ‘human warrior’. But just something like premium daydream for all
there's a looking for RP flag in profile.
I like the suggestion, but I'd want to be able to toggle specific people as the background NPCs.
flag annoyingplayer NPC
The person who thinks they are the Main Character is now correctly assigned as a background NPC and will show up as a <race> <profession>.
A "bot" flag would be
I wonder if QC would accept the prename "Known botter" if someone asked for it....
No.

I think we are on to something here.... subtle titles for a polite society!
Slaying two wyrms in one hunt. That's exhilarating. Love that the necrotic rings spawns an undead one occasionally.
I've yet to spawn a "boss" version, but my ring is sad and only has a 3% chance
Fun times =p
used the squelch list:
You settle yourself on the leather chair for a moment's rest. s> Nothing happens.
Yeah I didn’t want to squelch Nothing happens because it would come up in other contexts. I noticed that still appears too, once the gem is fully purified I guess. Not much to be done for it
haha ya it was more the comedic timing of sitting down and seeing it pop up 😄
Saw two wyrm statues in Eldurhaart in the same room last night. Nice
Was only like the third or fourth time I've seen it happen, but was a ton of fun. Got pretty dicey for a minute when I got stuck in one of those seemingly unending sympathy gazes—at one point was even down to 8 health (Plate Armor Proficiency feat to the rescue). Luckily, Earthdriver and I had converged on the wyrm from different spots in the Angargreft, and together we were able to fell both of them.
I keep getting the weird "Your songs fail to renew." messages whenever I come in from a hunt in the Hinterwilds. Have confirmed it's 100% something that happens when I come back in from hunting there, still haven't figured out what it's referencing or what's causing it (so haven't been able to bug it). I don't sing, I smash. 😆 Ironically, and amusingly, years ago I used to joke about Myharl always singing kindred battlehymns when berserking.
It's not really a problem; just some wayward messaging, but the "nothing happens" squelch conversation above reminded me to post something about it.
Huh.
What does this mean? It was in monster bold. "You have broken the tenuous peace and marked yourself as a target for the gigas of Eldurhaart!"
its something new. Auchand is playing tricks
It's something new. The first time it ever happened to me was 11/03 @ 15:50 Elven.
Edit: Weirdly, when I triggered it Myharl was in the Ojandhaart, Pasture (#29916) and had just attacked the first gigas he had come across in Ojandhaart.
I want to break some damn peace
It could mean anything.
It could even mean nothing!
It could even be a boat.
Is there a way to check to see if you've broken the peace? Aaaannnd any ideas floating around as to how to re-establish it?
I imagine a good check would be to see if you walk into a place where there are Gigas and if they start wailing on you then ... there's your answer.
Im guessing we are looking at a potential faction system rep thing
the wyrm crashes to the ground and lies still.
As it should be
Weird one... was in the Hinterwilds hunting, but didn't see the messaging for the wyrm. Was on the back end of a hunt and pretty tore up when one wandered into the room in Fjallarhaart and attacked me. Dashed back to Cold River to get some healing and went back, but never saw the wyrm again. Had been resting in Rawknuckles for a long while before that hunt as well and never sensed the wyrm flying about. Just thought I'd note the weirdness since we've noticed some other recent changes.
I think maybe Myharl is so wyrmed up, he is hallucinating 😉
I saw the messaging for it earlier. I was in some cave in Hoarbriar.
I definitely don't let them out of sight. they move so fast that they tend to just ninja vanish
It's completely possible I missed seeing it. The scroll in Rawknuckle's is pretty constant and unending. However, I also have an audio alert set, so whenever it pops up on screen, I hear a loud wyrm roar. 😄 Back when I was first pushing to get to 100 wyrms slain, I monitored for them pretty regularly and went after them all—the audio let me make sure I didn't miss one when I was working in another window or focused on another monitor. No roar = no message (or message changed enough not to trigger highlight). I just never turned the highlight off because if I'm not busy, I'll still chase after them.
Yeah, they move incredibly fast, and while some stay in a general area, others seem to roam from one area to the other pretty quickly. If it hadn't been on the end of a hunt where I had laden myself with 150 lbs. of boxes and was already bleeding out 30 or so per, I would have stuck around for a bit. I'm pretty good at tracking them, though. Were a lot of times when I was soloing them that I'd have to recoup and run back out.
That's interesting! Maybe something at Rawknuckle's changed? Hrm... I did try to squelch some of the gem purifying in there the other day. Need to go back and double check I didn't mute something to do with the wyrm messaging inadvertently. I didn't think about that before now.

Gotta have the enhancives to pick the Hinterwilds boxes in the first place, you see!
(Not a joke, by the way! The boxes can get up to the point that a top notch, undamaged vaalin lockpick with +60 Picking Locks and +30 Dexterity (+15 bonus) still needs a high roll, so I'm very grateful for another +17 of buffer. 😄 Highest I've seen so far is -1590, but I'm sure it gets tougher--especially if people are out there using necro rings.)
I grabbed one of the room descriptions from just before the Spirit Walk. This is what the image is based on.
Rising out of the cold earth, a sky-scraping pyramid of red stone overshadows the area, its cavernous entrance marked by a pair of colossal red stone pillars. Traceries of rime glisten from its cyclopean walls, reflecting the dancing aurora in shimmering blues and wild greens, but it is a grim and beautiless place, a ruined echo of a monument built to evoke fear rather than wonder. As if cowed by the display, the trees give the edifice a wide berth, leaving it in solitude amidst a grove cratered with steaming pools.
It's closer than I was able to get in AI generation.
I definitely see Angargreft as a little more squat than that, and the stone crumbling and with an uglier shade of red-orange, but everything else is pretty on-key.
The top also has a smallish plaza for Zerroth's bier.
You dont want to see what it gave me for Zerroth’s bier
Hold my bier.
FYI, four NPCs who accept reports of completion of heirloom, culling and boss advg tasks in Cold River: alchemist, fisherman, lookout, tavernkeeper. I think that's more than most big towns.
I kind of wish Cold River would become an "official" town. We're only shy a few features like a pawnshop. And tables... tables would be really nice just because having a post-cap only hunting ground, it's inevitable that the super node is going to be inundated with scripters. I think the Pipe Den ended up being counter to the intention. It's basically impossible to do any sort of RP in there due to the scroll.
The real RP is in the Tent City Graveyard
Myharl's spot for wyrm-watch tends to be sitting under the ancient pine. I did notice the growing tent city, though. 😄
Come to think of it, I've never actually checked if the alchemist buys reagents. But if not, that would be another missing things.
I was Cemetery tent hobo first. Everyone else is just gentrifying
I wouldn't classify it as an "official" town. But I would like to see a pawnshop (Because you shouldn't have to be Premium to avoid that annoyance), and tables (Because forced consolidation isn't a good thing IMO.)
It's a community.
Classing it as a town would probably result in less focus since it'd need a guru.
I was about to say let's upgrade it to Pinefar status, but then I checked and Pinefar doesn't have a pawnshop or alchemist either. It does at least have tables, though!
I'm for the tables and ability to pawn, even without full town status
Make the frostling the pawn. Lol
That actually makes perfect sense, though. Bittergale is already a junk collector, and the random pile of mismatched clothes they wear resembles the ensemble worn by the clerk in the back room of Kilron's in the Landing. 😆
Yup. That was kinda my thinking
Hot take. Make the frostling the pawn, but instead of silver, you get to spend gigas shards to pull from some rando treasure pile. Fill it with a few hundred things from old pull piles of the past. Include some neat/cool/nice things. Unique reward for hunting HW
But you gotta pawn him stuff to earn ‘the right’ to do a pull. Reduce silver outflow and those who want can get a chance at more interesting rewards
Make every pull cost 20 shards. That way you have to be hunting, and you cant be departing
Ooh! Pawnshop conversation aside, I like that idea of Bittergale being utilized as an alternate way to trade/spend gigas shards. Something like: you could "deposit" gigas shards you collect with the frostling, and when you have enough banked up there you could "spend" them to pull a random piece from their pile of junk treasure. Could even be priced for common, uncommon, and rare. Old "pull pile" prizes repainted to be Hinterwilds themed would be perfect.
Sort of makes me think of some of the fun hidden gems the really old neighborhoods have. Like there's one on the southwest side of Icemule that has a carnival game you can win randomly generated toys from.
If you take it from asking for a pawnshop to add entire new system with randomness, you've just created way more work.
K.I.S.S.
Banking gigas fragments give me an idea of banking them to be able to get unique buffs to help with Wyrm. Like 500 fragments to ignore sympathy as an example.
That’s an interesting idea- perhaps involving gigas shards in the charm system to obtain new Hinterswild specific buffs.
Or just make both. We were asked what kind of rewards we wanted out of Asc hunting. Ill just add that to the list
If that was the constant mindset, the Hinterwilds wouldn't even exist. New ideas come from conversation.
Okay, but we should walk before we try to run.
If the HW was a toddler, it would already be walking. I believe.
We should take bets on when the first billion silver HW McMansion is going to be dropped
My tent may qualify, it cost more than a MCP
It would hilarious if there was a section of housing called Billionaire's row

I was curious.. The hidden path from the Arboreal forest that cuts north towards a hidden trail that then heads west to Fjallahart.. They don't seem to be hidden anymore? and if they're not hidden from plain view, is there a reason we still have to search for them?
This may work with something later on, yeah.
There's been an issue with hidden portals getting revealed, and it's been difficult to track down why it's happening. They should be hidden, but I can't keep going in and making them invisible when whatever's causing them to de-invisible keeps happening.
I'm pretty sure new ideas come from my ADHD hyperfocus, at least with regard to the Hinterwilds. 😛
Also…just letting sparkfinger have a trade in for 20 shards that give you a random ‘pull pile’ level reward would work for my idea also
And we need that creepy librarian from Castlevania SOTN in moonsedge for similar purposes. 😄
Long as he says keke/hehe Thank You.
I read this as:
When I loot cap, I can now farm shards in HW to get loot beyond loot cap.
I read it as the current entire loot system is a boring snoozefest devoid of even a shred of interesting
This tbh
first encounter with wyrm, it's pretty much just RT locking the entire room over and over
Is it bugged out? Usually an 800AS mstrike isn't far behind
Do you have a team of > 5? That's his anti-grouping mechanism
yeah. Eventually after about 5 minutes, the cold started killing people. Yes
Just literally any group of more than 5 is utterly unable to do anything until they die?
Its meant to prevent trivial kills via overwhelming odds
Yeah, I've gotta boot one of my squad any time I want to make an attempt. Before I learned that, it was basically spamming SYM RETURN on everyone until someone passed an RT check (usually wizard because of 535). He doesn't typically attack when he's in the full CC mode that I've seen, it's just the RT stacking over and over
yeah, it's also going to result in some fun times if anybody is passing by and gets caught in that. It should really punt people to other rooms occasionally or something. I'm fine with them not wanting overwhleming numbers but it's literally inescapable
The wyrm is not in a great place in general. As far as I know it still has "kick rocks bud" TD
my suggestion was once you hit the threshold, the wyrm stomps the ground, everyone falls into a cave below ground and you have closed arena battle with the wyrm
Also, an excuse to just throw up 10 thaumaturge tomes and send the whole herd at him, as it locked down all the enemies too
ah well, at least now I know
Treat the wyrm as a world boss you aren't supposed to win against. You'l have less frustration that way. There is no reward for killing it at the moment anyway, not even treasure.
Proudest victory: a silver-scaled cold wyrm (level 120)```

I keep the sybil as my proudest. Since i solo'd that dirty girl
(I dont know how to set my kills so whatever mine says was just put there)
I still need to give Sybil an attempt. I joined a group early on and didn't get much out of the attempt because there was so much going on. Which says a lot because I'm used to a lot going on lol.
The wyrm never moves once it lands, right?
It can. I've found that 615 in particular makes it go haywire and start running around
joy
well, at least adding a peer before movement to avoid it should help with the worst, if it moves onto me... guess I will just grump about it
The wyrm roams around and can enter some of the other structures you cannot peer into like the henge, heart tree, longhouse, etc. surprise surprise when you miss the monsterbold while afk resting !

d'aww ❤️
It's a broke mechanic, but a mechanic that otherwise makes sense. my solution is to just log when I get stuck in it. Frees up others to escape, then I'll come back to fight it. I've had it happen when I was fighting a wyrm and someone's crew came walking through.
yeah, I'm cool with the idea of it, it should just do it in a way that's a little less.. sheesh. who has the convoke staff? i need it for... reasons
Imagine an enraged wyrm upon login lol
They absolutely move around. Sometimes all abroad the Hinterwilds. I've chased them from one gigas village to the other, from the Boreal forest all the way up to Beserker's End, and sometimes they'll wander down into the Pits. Also there are triggers that will put it into a frenzy where it darts around really quickly. Example: casting swarm.

Am I having horrible RNG or does it seem like over 50% of assigned bounties in HW are for the alchemist? I'm burning through expedited task vouchers like they're nothin'.
Even NPC bards are op
Can you not waiver alchemy tasks?
I forget those are a thing. I should see if I can dig some up.
They should be super useful in the Hinterwilds since escorts, rescue, and bandit tasks aren't a thing.
The Sybil
Neat. Hadn’t really bothered trying to summon one yet, but this makes me itchy for a battle
I’ve been hunting more in area between the pits and the northern forest. Man, that’s gotta be the toughest hunting spot in the entire game. High spawn rate with both pits creatures and all the northern woods stuff. It’s a hoot
It is a fun place to hunt.
It can get pretty wild there when you enter the center room and there’s like 6 critters - 2 disirs, a disciple, an undansormr, a mutant and a draugr 😱
I’m usually pretty quick at determining what to disable first and prioritize to kill. But it can get super tricky there!
press F1 (wizard free reset room Tap)
That’s probably not gonna clear it though. Even with like 2x 410 510 510 510 510 510 you’re gonna have your hands full
press it twice! --zhagen just bit the dust
Heh. I find core tap not as effective against disirs, undansormrs, disciples and a few of the other higher level guys just given their crazy DS and resistance to disables
They tend to require special attention
the one case to core tap 412 5 times?
Probably not even worth it! I had to look up 412 in the wiki, not gonna lie
lol. I keep wanting to find some place where it is. Maybe the wyrm? probably immune. most things don't live long enough to be worth it
Okay, thought about it a bit more. Order of operations when entering the death room I just described:
- Core tap x2
Likely kills the mutant and draugr but barely touches the others
-
Focus disciple ASAP with astral spear wandolier until dead
-
Focus undansormr, maybe cast call wind 1x so acid mist doesn’t start to get me
-
Finish off the disirs and hope I’m still alive
so blessed HW doesnt have those reflecty anti caster mobs. i mean if I see 6 hard critters in one room either run or go all in core taps
I don’t see many people use arcane barrier in HW but has some usefulness
The Greatchamber has some weird pathing issue going on where it traps critters in it
you can get hellish swarms in there
Not an issue, it’s a feature
oh no leave it
when i feeling like playing John Rambo, I rush in and go go go go
I really wish there was more whacky stuff like falling in a pit with 1 elite Disir and 2 normal disirs and you can't leave until you kill them ..... or like gigas war horn sounds warning for 60 seconds and then you get warcamp level spawns directly on you for a minute. Or like you come across a wounded <insert NPC> and you have to defend them in the wild as they slowly roll around for X minutes. Also, treasure goblin...
Yeah, absolutely! The biggest non-invasion swarm I ever had to deal with was in the greatchamber. It's crazy in there when the wyrm is running around the temple stirring everything up.
I killed 19 critters in the fjallarhart great room a few months ago. Wizard shield, wall of force and two immediate core taps
No idea why so many were stuck there
some rooms that don't have easy ways out let critters in but not out. particularly if the way in is not the same as the way out
I’ve often thought hunting could get interesting if you couldn’t leave a room until enemies were cleared, always feels a bit weird how you can just run when things get sticky
I would love some legend of zelda, door closes, deal with it rooms
412 works great on the wyrm
For HW swarms, my goto Wizard solution is 435, followed by 917 on the dangerous targets. Then it's just arrow fury time. tbf, everything is easy with archery except high-level valravns which just need to be grounded or stunned a little and then their DS tanks
really weird wyrm fight today - I was primarily locked up in sympathy, to the extent that I did maybe around 1000 damage ```You remain steadfast in your goal of defending a silver-scaled cold wyrm.

An arrow falls to the ground, narrowly missing a silver-scaled cold wyrm!
After hitting the mastodon, droplets of blood are sucked from it to your sephwir long bow, running up the bow to be absorbed by the vines wrapped around your wrist.
A strong breeze continues to swirl through the area.
A heavily armored battle mastodon struggles momentarily with the gale.
A silver-scaled cold wyrm struggles momentarily with the gale.
A silver-scaled cold wyrm's eyes glint with liquid silver as she diverts a fraction of her concentration into restoring herself.
Your sympathy toward a silver-scaled cold wyrm overwhelms you as you endure an onslaught of emotions.
Roundtime: 6 sec.
Pained spasms wrack the battered form of the great cold wyrm. The vanquished wyrm gasps futilely for breath, the gelid, caustic spittle bubbling up from her mouth shot through with silver-sheened crimson blood. With a last, terrible convulsion, the wyrm crashes to the ground and lies still.``` was definitely a fresh spawn that had just landed, so why did it die so soon?
There are a couple of potential reasons I've figured out through my research.
-
If there is no player target in the room, gigas (and potentially other critters) seem to attack the wyrm reducing its health. If it lands in a gigas-heavy area and everything is left unengaged, that can add up to substantial damage quickly as they are not limited to the 5-character threshold.
-
You were not the first to engage. Even if only a few minutes have passed since landing, there a chance a character or group has already engaged it and either it ran off from that engagement or the characters fighting it disengaged it. A small group can deal substantial damage in 3 minutes. Side note: someone casting swarm on the wyrm will cause it to disengage and run away in a frenzy.
That is interesting - how did you see the gigas attacking the wyrm? I do track it with my familiar sometimes, but it typically is moving very fast
I didn't see it. Back when I was keeping logs and meticulous stats on the battles (see the archives) I suspected it. Auchand at one point confirmed it.

... 20 points of damage!
Nasty jolt to abdomen makes a shining winged disir's stomach turn. Urp.
Riotous Liabo-hued energy races along the surface of the sword, slender tendrils rising up to coalesce into the ethereal form of a hollow-eyed valravn.

... 30 points of damage!
Skull and surrounding flesh disintegrate. The winged disir falls to the ground dead.
Deafening silence crashes down over you. A flash of blinding white light erupts from the disir, leaving her afterimage seared into your eyes.
Blinding light explodes from the disir's eyes and mouth as her wings spread, unfurled by the throes of her agony. The radiance sears her shadow onto the ground behind her as she topples backward, lifeless.
The licks of blue flame surrounding a shining winged disir flare up one last time before vanishing with a staticky crackle.

Wyrm redesign is still on my slate.
But I'm crawling close to the finish line on another project at the moment.
Is it the hive?!
What a weird question.
I'm going to the one place that hasn't been corrupted by capitalism. SPACE!
Hah.
hm. what am I supposed to do if an ooze eats me and I'm missing my right arm. can't do the normal thing to escape
answer is apparently die
i was slowly going through my random teleport items trying to find one that worked. but got stuck on one that i couldn't wear. but then i couldn't inspect it to figure out its worn location and couldn't figure out what to take off to wear it...
Ugh. Gold ring work?
Pray for someone to kill your ooze I think is the only option
Hmm if you have a sigil staff can you incant spells off of the staff while inside an ooze?
gold ring didn't work. i think there is just a blanket ban on any verbs besides get, put, and the escape one. what was annoying is that i still had one arm left and couldn't use it to escape!
Beseech plate with voln armor used to work, but it doesn't anymore.
who doesn't pick up their boxes in HW :offended:
Any tips for a AMbushing Brawler Rogue for HW, recently Capped, or is it too soon?
hinterwilds generally isn't very friendly to fresh capped anyone, if you have some pretty amazing gear it's doable certainly
Hm. Monks can do fine at fresh cap, but that's through sheer number of attacks in a single command. It might be viable on a rogue using UAC, but you'd need to knock down almost anything in the hunting ground first for it to even have a chance of working since so many of the creatures are gigantic. 🤔 (And I don't mean Subdue; I mean Sweep or Twin Hammerfists. Subdue doesn't drop them far enough.)
If you're picky and just stick to the Boreal Forest and Ojandhaart, I assume it's probably fine. But if you can't handle those areas, you're not handling anything else in the Hinterwildseither.
In Shattered, so ya. A few coolio items, shadarl brig, ko gloves and Boots with flares and material flares, and sk506
Hopefully some good hiding and punches will do ok
Does Voln Sleep work well there?

Wonder if we can get any confirmation if the feeder odds are tied to quality points on loot event
That’d be interesting. I feel like I’ve informally gathered a ton of intel about the basic loot system over the years. But when it comes to feeder drops, I’m clueless - other than that they’re super rare

How much Survival is needed to freely move in HW?
0?
You might slip on an ice patch here and there...but its rare
I mean the whole hypothermia bit. Can that not be trained off?
Oh, not really no. But there are two ways to completely ignore it.
- You pay sparkfinger the alchemist some gigas fragments (found from HW critters) for immunity for 15 mins
- A puzzle ||You find the frostling in the crystalline glade and give them any junk item you like and they'll make you immune for an hour||
Great, thanks
The behmothic gorefrost golems have an ability to sort of 'freeze' you which slows you down and adds RT. However, there is no listing of it in Spells Active as either a debuff or anything like that- is that intentional?
I think something similar happens in South Scatter- not sure though... it's an environmental thing there rather than a creature ability.
@sharp raptor 🐲
Can we get an @🐉 for this channel?
On my way, has it landed yet?
wher is it?
didn't see
Survival is just an on paper stat that makes rangers feel good, no one really needs it for much of anything 😛
Great, I’ll keep mind at zero then 😅

1x surv is still half way to a good skinning game
Yeah, not really a huge "hell yeah" on 3x, shop returns don't make me feel very bad arse 😆

Just another day in the Greatchamber
Finally got around to doing Zerroth
Tickle those toesies
I like those pics. Does the room description imply an open space like that?
Its open air at the top of the mausoleum
:edited slightly to beat the gore filters:
A red, thick liquid pools thick and dark on the dais, dripping from and oozing between the blocks of ruddy feldspar in a constant sluggish flow. The source appears to be a monstrous figure draped across an equally behemothic bier of red-veined white marble. A quintet of rounded stone pillars supports an ornate roof over the fallen armored giant, and each pillar is deeply graven with a downturned scimitar outlined in smeared ash. Wind barely whispers over the ground, as if even the brazen elements fear the place.
Accurate.
I have to say, damage padding does WORK in the Hinterwilds.
I took a nasty stun from a massive open roll deathnado with two valravns in the room earlier today. They proceeded to deathnado me 3 more times during the duration of the stun, with a total of over 20 damage cycles across those deathnados.
The measly 3 CER damage padding on my armor saved me, and I walked away with a bunch of wounds and 50-some odd HPs
It’s good for the undansormr acid spray and mana burst too
Nice.
new gem? feel like I haven't seen this before ```You ask Etaenia to appraise a niveous snowdrop.

examine snowdrop
Tear-shaped, the snowdrop is a striking translucent white. It is of a size that it might be mistaken for a hailstone, were it not for the startling radiance channeled by its facets. Impurities within the gem form the faint suggestion of falling snowflakes, not one of the frosty occlusions completely alike to another.```
Never seen one either, that's neat
also found a spruce green emerald and a spindle of icicle jade, maybe new permanent additions? or maybe just seasonal, don't know
>look lichstone
Black in color, the lichstone holds dark whispers of other hues, bloody reds seeping into cold blues and mossy greens. Uncut facets lend it a rugged texture that make the jewel look as if it has weathered the passage of ages. Its depths are impenetrable and inky, of a black that refuses even the brightest light.```
Something has changed... finding... strange things in the Angargreft. I am intrigued.
few more new ones popped up, I thought I saw Auchand mention an Icemule gem update somewhere - might be imagining that though, not sure... here it is #1124828596956053555 message

Richly imbued with the hues of ancient ice at a glacier's heart, the core wavers between a green so deep as to be almost black and a rich, oceanic blue. Hinterwilds shares some gems with Icemule Trace.
Icemule Trace and Zul Logoth have some new gems.
Blame it on seismic activity.

Hinterwilds gems have been updated so that there are no longer two rutilated twilight tourmalines. The lower-value ones will now drop as "tiny nightsky tourmalines".
Any old ones will need to be sold off to the gem shop, but new ones should bundle together cleanly.
All gems of sufficient value now have an orb chance and a recharge chance that scales with the gem's value, similar to gems found in Wehnimer's.
Auchand, you are a gem!
Will there be bounties for both types?
do Icemule Trace and Zul Logoth have the same new gems?
No.
Yes.
Well, wait.
Bounties will work off of the current gems.
If that clarifies things.
I meant will there be separate bounties for rutilated twilight tourmalines and also tiny nightsky tourmalines?
Yes.
They were always two separate gems, they just had the same 15/15/15 because of human error.
(Mine, probably.)
Yeah, my gem bottles definitely noticed they were separate. 🤣
blue-violet chunks of kornerupine 1 no ```
Is this possibly another similar issue with HW gems? Ended up in 2 different jars and wouldn't combine for some reason.
I've never had an issue with that particular gem before, but I had an issue with snowflake zircons (not tiny, old ones) where I was able to put them into two different jars and then empty one jar into the other.
but they wouldn't go directly into the same jar.
I just sold 10 Virulescent nephrites for a bounty only to realize they wanted jagged nephrites, and the 10 i sold were useless! That hurt my soul.
Will check.
Does Alchemy Examine work on any of the new gems? Hopefully some substitutes.
a swirling quicksilver globe
Within the confines of a translucent orb of pale crystal, quicksilver swirls and shimmers in a dance of liquid metal. Objects reflect strangely off of the smooth surface of the liquid, which has the color of moonlight sheening the surface of a dark pond. The orb itself is faceted and polished with great care.
That's neat
Added! I'm working on adding show descriptions to ones I find in between hunts; if anyone finds any I don't have or don't have show descriptions for, please feel free to @ me and paste here or DM me directly.
so far, 36 or 37 new ones found.
Found another one:
an ebon winternight sapphire
The sapphire is a large, oval-cut black gem of surpassingly high luster. In its dark heart lie silvery blue glints that coldly scintillate with its harnessed fire. Channeled by its tiny facets, light within the gem winks like a constellation of silvery stars.
Well, glad Auchand finished all those new hunting grounds and can finally get back to what really matters in the world, Hinterwilds Fishing! 😛
but what about the fossilized undanDsormr egg typo that's been there since the beginning when the creature is undansormr?
That was fixed in 2022.
i know someone who hunted there only in september this year and its in all their gems
I want an UdonSomemore egg
No, it was fixed YESTERDAY
I found one yesterday. It goes in my jar with the half dozen or so I got de-typoed through an assist. (You were right about that! Thanks bunches.)
Also: Auchand, I am sitting here agog and drooling over the faceted stormcloud alexandrites I found this afternoon in HW.
🙂
Thanks for fixing the typo(s) (I haven't gotten another spruce emerald to check that one yet.)
The new gems are lovely, but you sure have complicated the gem bounty game 😆 😬
@sharp raptor 🐉 Sanguine Grove
Is it intended that you can 740 out of HW but not into?
You pick up a fossilized rolton tooth.
You peer intently at the rolton tooth as you turn it in your fingers, meticulously inspecting for flaws. You estimate that the rolton tooth is of very cheap quality and worth approximately 5 silvers.
How the heck did that get up so far north? Gigas evolved from roltons??
Rol-tons
a fossilized rolton tooth
Ancient and darkened to the hue of old bone, the tooth appears to be a rolton molar. Its chewing surface is broad and flat, ground almost smooth from chewing. Age has allowed cracks to spiderweb across the surface, undermining the tooth's integrity.
I like how you're running away from 40-foot proto-giants with skin that adapts to the elements, and your worry is that there might have been sheep up there once upon a time.
Sheep. Totes implausible.
@sharp raptor 🐉 but i'm out of lands now
Thanks! I went after this one solo when it landed in Ojandhaart when no one else was about, had to fall back for some herb cramming, but could never find the wyrm again when I ran back out. Next time!
There used to be roltons. Used to. We know what happened when Cold River ran out of them.
oh no..... that was turning point wasn't it.... haha 🥩 🍴
it looks like the fossilized undansormr egg typo was only half fixed, since the typo with the extra D is still present in alchemy examine. So the auto-jarring containers don't recognize the new eggs to jar and reflects the incorrect spelling still when you LOOK in the container. Can the alchemy examine also be fixed for the gems with typos in the base descriptions?
So... on one hand, it's now "a fossilized undansormr egg."
On the other hand, it now appears in Misc of the SortedView (instead of Gems) and can no longer be purified. Is that intentional?
Edit: Also, a separate but vaguely related thing, but the myriad new gems aren't all (maybe even "all aren't") configured to make it possible to RUMMAGE them or jars of them out of containers.
Eyyy just solo'd a wyrm with a throwing net.You step out of hiding to waylay a silver-scaled cold wyrm! You swing a tightly-woven throwing net at a silver-scaled cold wyrm! AS: +693 vs DS: +358 with AvD: -3 + d100 roll: +51 = +383 ... and hit for 250 points of damage! Pained spasms wrack the battered form of the great cold wyrm. The vanquished wyrm gasps futilely for breath, the gelid, caustic spittle bubbling up from her mouth shot through with silver-sheened crimson blood. With a last, terrible convulsion, the wyrm crashes to the ground and lies still. Roundtime: 4 sec.
New gems have to be added to the ingredients list for rummage ingredient. It's already on Vanah's list of things to do. I don't know about the undansormr egg issues; my own beef with the new gems is how LOOT BOX (and I assume loot room) now puts all nuggets, petrified warg fangs, and carved basalt teardrops in general instead of gems for stow?
ETA: Rummage ingredient isn't currently possible, but rummage FOR is. It's just not as effective because it can conflict with jar descriptions as well as gem descriptions.
This is great
...palladium nuggets aren't purifiable either anymore.

Oh nice! Just killed my 75th warg packmother, and this is the first time I've seen a new skin drop in the Hinterwilds. I always skin them, and it's been a niveous warg pelt like all the other wargs, this time I got an alabaster warg pelt when I skinned her. Now I want to check the next wrym I slay to see if maybe it has skins since things are changing. Very cool trophy.
Oh awesome. That was something that always bugged me, glad to see a unique skin. Now I need to find a packmother again 😄
Oh that's cool, I was similarly disappointed by the stock skin being on those
Oh niiiiice! Loot like that is exciting!
would be cool if it was a diff noun so you could eventually have the hardest to make pack mommy sheath that took you 55 years to get enough skins for 😛
I know I'd be like "yo, that person with that pack mommy sheath is THE BOSS"
Anyone else seeing a lot of spectral/ghostly critters in the HW today? Is it just someone using one of those EG rings?
I saw a ghostly something cannibal today which did a weird mstrike which dispelled me like 4x. Didn’t think that could happen from the necro ring stuff
I saw a spectral berserker this morning, someone definitely using a necro ring
Does the ring give them special abilities though?
It can.
Yup. I don't want to point fingers at the folk(s) doing it, but its definitely a player using the necro ring and leaving them behind. Been going on for weeks
It’s funny because it takes a fair amount of investment to make the ring make boon ghosts hahaha
there was a vvrael destroyer with dispelling and regeneration that probablly killed 20 people in the rift a while back
Wonder what he put his ASC points into.
Seems implausible that there were twenty people in the rift
i think it killed 3 or 4 different people several times. iirc it killed ffng like four times
got into rage-decay-respell-repeat mode
This was pre asc so it was a little more popping! But yes took me several tries lol
Makes sense. It doesn’t particularly bother me. Was just curious if the boss critter system had been extended into the HW. Apparently not yet 🙂
I'm torn on that. I wouldn't mind it in the forest or ojan/eldur. But boss disir/disciples/angryghosts sounds horrifying
🙂
Yes, and I know who is causing it. A frequent hunter there has their Lich's Curse turned on their necro ring (and must have it boosted pretty high) and since spectrals like to hide, whatever hunting script they're using just runs out of the room when it doesn't see them. The annoying part is you can tap the necro ring to turn off the curse and it wouldn't make spectrals (will still make the same amount of non-boss undead). So... I'm not sure why they're doing it.
Found a regenerating shielded berserker today. It was a HP sponge for sure
Combine this with our friend the Void leaver and and Fajaal is a pretty toxic place these days
