so, i would like to start playing multiplayer/ranked, but i am kinda scared, that i would make "simple" mistakes and put my team on the backfoot, so my question is: how do i prepare for multiplayer games?

Play unrank games or play rank and learn from your mistakes

Yeah, it is one of those sink or swim kinda things unfortunately. Watching streams and videos of how people usually play clans can help, and just knowing how clans work together and counter can ease the mind.

But really it just takes time and practice, jump in and do your best!

welcome to the grind soldier, first of all, id say stop playing conquest, it will give you very bad habits, like alaindit said, spam the shit out of public 3v3s before you go to ranked, because even in stone u will go against smurfs or really good players.

As to improving...I cant stress this enough, LEARN your openings, if my spawn has A or B, I should do this or that, is there a teammate that needs mid (ignore him asking, does the clan hes playing need it? then go for it), are there brambles on the map for u to take? is the map good for quick elves or kobolds for ur clear clan? then u need early chief. Learn your openings, benchmark your timings, learn when a building goes down, for example 2nd woodcutter camp, or brewery, when to mine.

After you get these mechanics and timings, learn tile locking, tile dancing, delaying decolonisation, preventing colonisation, kiting with axe throwers, how malus works, when to take fights, when to go back, splitting clans, which clan stays alone in the split.

I dunno if this helps, but every time a game starts and my teammate says "I'm very new and would appreciate your help if I'm doing something wrong :)", I always help them. So being kind and honest is always a great start. Each game you'll get a little bit better, and you'll slowly figure out what you need to do! Have fun 😊

One suggestion: pick a clan, and watch a YouTube build order. Learn how to create an army by mid 802 ish. With that, you'll be prepared for the majority of unranked games. You'll learn what to do with that army by playing. It takes time, give it patience!

The easiest thing you can do to improve your winrate as a complete ranked beginner is pick a time and communicate it. E.g. say in chat at the start of the game “we attack 802 July, ok?” or “be ready March 802, we will defend them”. Just having a plan and everyone being on the same page will give you a much better chance of winning.

Most things have been covered, though I'll just add that you don't have to worry about normal games, there are no smurfs there 90% of the time from my own recent experience trying out new clans on family shared account. Chill games with little aggression, and that's without joining beginner labeled lobbies.

i learned the game literally from spamming games and griefing my team.
i started a long time ago back when it was a free lobby system with no rank restrictions and i got flamed every other game

eventually you pick things up and everything works out

I'd suggest the same, just play the game in 3v3 normal games. Eventuely you will get the hang of it. If you are interested in any kind of specific clan there are ppl on this discord to help you. If you for example have a question about Eagle, i can happily help you. I might be not the one with the meta way of playing eagle but i peaked 700 some time ago

One thing that hasn't been mentioned yet but what i would suggest is:
Either pick a clear clan, or a self reliant clan. Try to get really good at this clan first.

The reason, is that as an eco clan, you'll be reliant on your teammates, and if they dont know what they're doing then you wouldn't be able to follow your build order

I think Boar is actually a great beginner clan, and very versatile.

played a few games already and its alot of fun, also i picked boar as my learning clan and will stick to it for a while 🙂
