It has come to my attention that the structure (Alaska tower) I intended to use (from Annoy's pack, whom I am working with) has been lifted from your pack.
I wasn't aware of this.
I'd like to ask for permission to use a slightly altered version of that structure in the pack I am putting together. We're not shipping with a custom map; I had a custom mod made for this project that will make the world generator put the tower at the player spawn on any world generated.
Credit for the tower build will be given to you of course.
Please let me know if it is okay to alter and use. Makes little sense to build practically the same thing over from scratch, but I won't use it without express permission.

world border mod is good, enchanting commands is useful, starter kit mod again useful, stack refill useful, respawn delay is cool because it puts u in spectator before u respawn, just mob heads, just player heads, improved sign editing, hide experimental warning, healing campfire, hand over your items ( u can give ppl shit without dropping it so others cant steal it ), fish on the line, extended bone meal, death backup, configurable despawn timer, bottle your xp, anvil restoration

also mods being only loosely related to each other in content is not an argument against packaging them together. combining 20 single feature mods in no universe makes one “heavy” mod
we’re not talking about combining aether with erebus and betweenlands here which would create a behemoth

it does like 40 things many of which are only loosely related to one another
yet it is all packaged together nicely and shares a config
instead of cluttering the configs folder with micro configs and not having every module neatly available in a single space to turn on/off as desired
the number of Serilum mods that warrants being completely standalone does not remotely resemble the total number of Serilum mods there are
mind you Serilum isnt the only modder of his kind - just the most outrageous
you can easily package most of his work into like 3-4 overarching mods. Serilum Utility, Serilum World Control, Serilum Miscellaneous mods, and more. I can come up with better titles later if needed
like why is biome spawn point not the same mod as structure spawn? they both control the spawn point and could easily be packaged into one single ultra lightweight Player Spawn Control mod
the only answer is money. not convenience. its criminal that Serilum generates multiple times the income of Betweenlands with like 5% of the effort

First time I managed to generate the map with the tower being present at the player spawn!
Finally got the spawn structure gen working!
One of the boats Sean came across, sitting there, waiting to be fixed up and taken up the river.
due to the Tower being a proper NBT structure, DistantHorizons also shows it when you're out of regular rendering range.

I have altered it since I had to make it 8 blocks shorter.
and I also changed the bee hives to sideways stripped logs, and the barrels to something like larch planks, in order to get rid of the visual utility blocks on the tower that were kinda immersion breaking.

You will also be able to come across this Weather Radar Tower in the Wilderness. It will spawn exactly once around a pre-determined coordinate area, so it will always be roughly the same distance from the Firewatch tower - far away so you will have to properly plan out and equip yourself for the journey.
More points of interest just like that one will also be included. Each one up to thousands of blocks away. You'll see them from a distance due to Distant Horizons, but to visit them will take a tough journey.

Also if someone hasn't mentioned this, you can use the mod "sparse structures" to reduce the amount of structures, if someone still wants custom structures but they just spawn too often.

and yes this is random gen, not hand crafted. with the pack you can generate new maps until you get one you like. they’re all sort of like this, and the wilderness tower is included by default through a custom mod I had someone make specifically for this pack
the reason I don‘t hand out mod links anymore is that everyone and their grandma seems to be making Alaska packs right now and I don‘t want to be responsible for and compete with more slop that ends up being posted to Curseforge but butchers the concept
So looking at the pack Sean just released, I got many of the mods right. But he also included some mods that make no sense. For example Sean uses "Variants&Ventures" which adds more zombie and skeleton variants, which doesn't make any sense given that the whole point of the concept is that it's realistic wilderness survival and there are no monsters.
"Hearth & Home" is also included which I am pretty sure does not appear in the video.
Sean left out a number of mods shown in his video in that pack..

There's some interesting leftover configs in Sean's pack from mods he tried and then uninstalled.
Uninstalling a mod does not remove it's config.
So we can see a bit of his tinkering around to get to an acceptable end product.

I mean adding Chunky to any downloaded pack is super easy.
But also there's no real need for Chunky with a different mod that we have included in our pack.
DH generates chunks way faster than Chunky does with our solution.

Hey, I have a question that isn't specifically about any practicular modpack. So I have made my own version of the Alaska wilderness with some minor modifications. The thing is that I've been getting a fairly bad performance even without shaders. Task manager says the GPU is working very intensively, but I'm not even running any shaders. GPU is GTX 1080,which is old but definetely not weak. Also I've allocated a bunch of ram (10/16gb) and I don't understand what is causing these performance issues (lag spikes and unusually low fps). I have embeddium installed as well as other performance mods. Again I don't know if this is the right place for these questions and I'm sorry if it isn't. I can also link the full modpack if you want.
Your graphics card is newer and stronger than mine so this is very confusing. Maybe some conflicting mods, or maybe you're demanding too much from Distant Horizons? Also 8 GB should be more than enough RAM.
I would assume that it's chunk generation that is slowing down your system. Maybe try pre-generating your world with Chunky, then setting Distant Horizons to only render a radius that would be inside that pre-generated area.
For example if you use Chunky to generate a radius of 1760 blocks, setting Distant Horizons to render 100 chunks out should leave you with some space to move around without ending up having to generate more chunks.
You can also then turn off Distant Horizons' option to generate chunks in the first place if you move around too much and it starts generating again.
Also turn down stuff like the Mipmap setting and other performance affecting settings that aren't too visually important.
Also I had to increase the RAM because it was hitting 99% when I had allocated only 8gb. I'm also pretty familiar with Chunky and DH, so I can try doing that or maybe even disabling DH generating chunks as you said.
(also it is technically possible that your GTX 1080 is simply a very poor one)
Not really it's a beast on fabric, but when it comes to huge modpacks it crumbles

Turn the render distance down to something like 8 chunks, and the simulation distance as well (even further perhaps)

the only vanilla biomes we have on in Frontier are Plains, Ocean, Cold Ocean (no point in turning off any ocean biomes), Cold River, Forest, and Taiga.
None of the Old Growth stuff since some of the other mods that add features to biomes completely mess them up.

Well we're making good progress I'd say.
We're getting our menu ready, we have a small selection of additional mods to install and set up (to replace Essential), and then we have to wait for an update to the structure mod I had someone make for this mod, and then testing.
Testing will show what mob AI still needs altering, which recipes need turning off, and ofc temperature system fine tuning.

The official modpack does not have the configurations that Sean used, so other biomes still spawn as well
Tbh I'm not convinced of that - I think Sean may have simply gotten lucky with the seed or looked for a fitting seed long enough where the other biomes didn't appear within the area that Distant Horizons would show.
the config he did ship with does have a number of valid entries to get rid of a small selection of biomes.
I mean he did say on Twitter a while back that he was having difficulties removing biomes from a modpack. So the seed thing is definitely a possibility
I think Sean just simply doesn't know how to resolve the issue that Biome Replacer configs break until certain other conditions are met as well in other configs.
Took us a while to figure out as well how to get exactly the biome selection we want.

Multiplayer test is working. Lovely. Our modpack includes client side world hosting without using Essential. So you can play with friends without having to rent a server - as long as the friend hosting the world is ingame ofc. But yes, Peer 2 Peer hosting. Very nice.

Yeah, world gen performance is epic with C2ME, but it's still Distant Horizons on a 500 chunk radius setting.
So it'll still result in low fps when alot of terrain is still generating, especially when someone is going around breaking tons of trees in creative mode, making them fall over, and spawning their items :p
"Annoy" posted a recreated version of alaska and I've only played 10/20 minutes but it looks beautiful. Are you both working together on it?
Also I wondered if it's possible to change the length of days, increase it to an hour of day and the same for night? Google wasn't helpful, it just told me how to change the current time
Yes. Annoy's version is like a lite lite version of this pack.
This pack is basically an evolution of Verly's (which is a better version of Sean's) and of Annoy's AWR.
Our new pack (the one I keep posting pictures of) is the only one that includes the tower on any map (As well as other custom structures), has the best (and most accurate) biome selection and terrain generation, has a 95% accurate selection of mobs (based on the mobs that appear in the video), and features every single one of the mods that heavily feature in Sean's pack, set up fittingly.
There's only a single mod we're not featuring that I'm aware of which is Swashbucklers - the mod that adds the raft shown in Sean's video. This is because the raft is buggy (as seen in the video) and the mod thematically doesn't actually fit the pack with it's pirate theme.
Hey. I have made a nice set of somewhat performance friendly settings for the modpack, that look great. Managed to run pretty well on GTX 1080, so if you have this graphics card or a better one, this should work well for you. My shader mod is Oculus and I have also added Embeddium for extra FPS. Feel free to try.
Note: it's very foggy. idk if you like that.

Ahh okay, didn't expect it to be a Lite version haha. Oh having the tower on any map is a godsend, I've thought of copying it with building gadgets but it felt a bit tacky and building it from scratch would've taken an age, so it's nice to have from the off. Yeah I agree on the swashbucklers mod, I've always thought they should have a canoe for water travel over the simple minecraft boat, feels like it would fit better.

I wouldn't be able to comment yet, only managed 20 minutes of playtime before i had to come off, but everything was stable and fine for that short time

The pack Annoy and I are working on will come with a Lite Version (for better performance) and a Full Version (for stronger PCs - that includes my GTX 970, so it does run on reasonably old spec hardware too).
We‘re getting there but progress is slow since I am doing it on the side next to my full time job and a podcast I edit.
We made some great progress this sunday with a multiplayer solution, setting up some mods, and further testing. We should have the pack ready in 2-3 weeks at this rate, although all of my previous ETAs have been wrong as well, so take that with a grain of salt.
I believe this pack does the Alaskan concept best, especially since our world is better due to our biome config not being broken like Sean‘s.
I think you‘ll enjoy playing it and that it does the video justice.
Its way better then the official IMHO. Especially the biome generation. Is anyone working on a Bear Mod for it?

AWR by Annoy is the best one currently released since all others have broken biome configs
But Frontier (mine) takes it to a new level :p

Ooh exciting, I recently got a new laptop with an i7 and a 4070, so I'd be interested to test out the full version once you release it. I'm excited to start a world like this, the scenery/landscape of it is what i want for a long playthrough, as well as the survival aspect that it has.
I did want to ask closer to the time but I might forget.
I wanted to add a couple mods, that just can't play without now, but I'd hate to break anything as this is your passion project.
A backpack(sophisticated or travelers)
Storage drawers (i hate chest monsters)
Create and maybe some create addons (i need something for long term stimulation)
And a rifle of sorts.(I just want one for hunting, but struggling to find one). Funnily enough I'm watching another video at the moment and he has an Accuracy International .338 sniper which is my favourite, but I can't find the mod.
I would suggest adding these mods to your copy of the modpack, as the goal for unofficial packs is to match the video. You can unlock modpacks to add mods via the settings for each pack
Sorry I must have worded it wrong. I understand what the modpacks goal is and I know I'll need to add them to my copy. I was just saying "I'm going to add these mods, I hope youre okay with it?". Shouldve made myself more clear.
On a side note, if you or anyone might know a rifle mod I could use then that would be helpful
The pack I am putting together does include a backpack mod, it does include Create and a number of create addons, and it includes a mod that adds a rifle. All of these are optional to use for players, so they're not intrusive mods that interfere with the concept for people who might not want those features.
The unofficial pack / my pack / Frontier takes the concept and evolves it - it doesn't just replicate the video 1:1.
If it were to replicate the video 1:1, it would also include woodland mansions and pillager outposts and other stuff that clearly isn't intended to appear but Sean didn't figure out how to disable when he made the video.

Sean‘s pack is out, kinda broken, and isn‘t changing. That is the official ForgeLabs pack and it is final.

For Modrinth, it's fairly similar steps. You may to unlock the instance, which is found near the bottom of the pack settings
Some packs are also just not locked, and will allow you to edit them freely

I'd suggest trying Timeless and Classics: Zero. Its arguably the best gun mod. After you download it, there will be a "tacz" called folder at .minecraft. In the folder you can find another folder called "deffault_pack". You can go ahead and remove that. After that go to the CurseForge site and search "Gunpowder revolution" and then download the first result (I'm gonna put a link to it). Download it for your version. It's gonna be a .zip file, so extract that and put it right in the "tacz" folder it told you about. Note: for that folder to appear you have to have installed the mod first and also booted the game. Once you have your unzipped "Gunpowder Revolution" folder inside the "tacz" folder as well as the mod itself running everything should be fine.

The guns look amazing and if you do everything correctly you should only be able to craft a few rifles and pistols from WW1, which is perfect for an AWR scenario. Enjoy!
Wow thank you, I'll have to save this message so I can refer back to it as that's a lot of instructions haha. It just feels right to have some sort of hunting rifle in a survival playthrough, spears are fun for the beginning stages but the aim is to sort of progress the playthrough kind of like a stone age to industrial age (hence wanting create).

I don't know if this is the right place to ask, but I need to know if theres some way to save your inventory as a text file ready to be used in the Starter Kit mod config. So basically I wanted to have a certain inventory when I start the playthrough to make it more interesting, but I don't want to write every single item one by one in the mod config, so I was wondering if there's any way to export your inventory, so I can just arrange the whole thing in a single player world and then just copy paste it in 🙂
at most that's 36 entries if you wanted to spawn will a full inventory.

Yeah, Its not that much work for one inventory, but if you want to have a random chance to get one of 10 inventories it gets very slow and annoying.

Hey, managed to sort the mods out following your instructions and so far so good, got myself a Winchester lever action and ready to take on a bear (maybe 😅). Thanks for all the help, time to actually play this pack. Until the new one comes out that is 😅
Currently neck deep in configs and various testing again.
Main Menu mostly set up. Default world type set up (so people don't mess with that and end up creating a flat world or some other stuff and then go "why doesn't my world look like the one in the screenshots")
If anyone wants to help test Frontier once we're done assembling it (so we can fix issues, disable recipes that we overlooked, etc) do let me know.
Just be aware that it might be a rough experience at first.

I've never tested a game before, however I'd like to help if I can? What would you be looking for in the testing phase?
Well just reporting any issues you might encounter during a survival playthrough. Also testing of the temperature system.
It's kinda all intertwined.
In effect what I need is someone who plays the pack as it is and let's me know of various things
- issues encountered (bugs ingame, performance, whatever)
- crafting recipes we need to disable
- things that break immersion
- does the temperature system work as intended? are the clothes and boilers enough? does it reflect the video and how Sean struggles to keep warm there? (winter will probably be harsher in the modpack than in Sean's video, since his winter isn't all that challenging)
- do the mobs behave realistically? any mobs that should flee, attack by themselves, attacked upon being attacked, etc? (we already did some work on this front, but testing would still be very useful)
- features that don't fit (enchanting system will be removed entirely for example. brewing stands as well. other stuff too that doesn't fit a realistic Alaska setting)
- ideas for features that would compliment the pack and it's concept
- crashes and crash reports of course
- is the world gen satisfactory?
Okay then I would like to help with all of that where I can. I am a little limited on playtime currently but I'd be happy to test it out and report back anything I find. The more testers you get, the more feedback.

Minus his 3rd bear, which he had custom made.
We're not having any custom mobs made for the pack.
Our mob selection for the pack is based on which of the mobs in the various mods we have actually do appear in Alaska.
So... don't expect to see any Elephants, Giraffes, Snakes, etc.
We have ONLY mobs that fit the setting.
we haven't touched the spawnrate yet.

well, the map in Annoy’s pack isnt very good
the pack I am working on (to which Annoy also contributed) is considerably better
it has better world gen, the tower appears on any map you generate (as well as other custom structures), and there are more of the mods and mechanics shown in the ForgeLabs video
Annoy’s pack doesn’t feature Distant Horizons and also no Create

Annoy's pack is the best one currently out, and the preset map that comes with that - while not having very good world gen - should feature all resources necessary.

No. The primary mod in it is an unreleased version of a pre-existing mod that has since been discontinued, which is why the pack never got released

I haven't been able to work on it for the past 4 weeks due to a situation at work.
Things should calm down now and I should hopefully be able to finish it.
This was a bug with one of the mods in the pack; a block type in my custom structures failed to rotate along with the structure upon it's placement in the world.
My pack places a number of pre-designed structures within a range of about 2k blocks at select locations in the world.
You can see some of them in the distance from the watchtower if there's not a mountain in the way.
This bug is fixed now. I spoke with the devs and got them to release an update that solved that bug and a number of others.

got a nice one but I guess it will require custom map, or some add on confing or giving player some clothing with spawning in, cuz if it spawns you far from other biomes as it did with me, the cold kills you in term of a minute and you can't really get far, not even torches from bonus chest help otherwise it looks nice on first look

make a campfire
its simple and really effective
you can change the season to summer on start so you dont freeze to death
there are plenty of ways to survive

also whenever starting the world after quittin there is an error due to the config wanting to teleport you to taiga but its harmless I guess since it doesnt tp you and spawns you on the spot you ended in

I mean, it depends on the modpack, but yes, you can edit Modpacks to add new mods
but my gameplay is not smooth
How i optimise my game
Go into the settings for Curseforge, then click into the Minecraft-specific ones and increase the slider for your RAM allocation; no more than 3/4 of the way, as recommended by MC itself, but I find that 1/2 of the way is usually fine.

Ik it late to ask but how can you see that far like render distance without it looking choppy

High render distance and I believe some settings in graphic card could help, and allocated memory to the minecraft, I personally never touched those settings out of Minecraft, had it neatly set since I had my PC built but I saw some videos so you can find the tutorial I believe
