#Tainted Enchant is far, far too weak (Unless your name is Ataraxia)

For those unware, Tainted is an enchant that makes it so you remove the projectile property of your weapon in exchange for it being true melee and having a massive power jump

However in it's current state it is LAUGHABLY weak in comparison to other options
You want to know some dps numbers just to get ideas on Ares and Thanatos? Well, here you go:

The control will be Dragon Rage, the Auric Tier true melee weapon who is double resisted by both of them

Ares: (Keep in mind this boss needs a specific strat to true melee and is aided by Bobbit Hook and Statis's Void Sash jump boost to even make this feasible to last for any amount of time)
Dragon Rage: 41k
Tainted Gael's Greatsword: 11-15k
Tainted Death's Ascension: 21-25k
Tainted Prismatic Breaker: 8k

Thanatos:
Dragon Rage: 45k
Tainted Gael's Greatsword: 10-11k
Tainted Death's Ascension: 8-10k
Tainted Prismatic Breaker: 8-11k

(The reason I am using dps instead of killtimes is because with how weak these things are I don't want to be trying to get killtimes for these weapons for the next 3 days as thana cockblocks me and Ares takes 80 years in berserk while trying to not die in a test build that can't go super defense due to the need of void sash for Ares)

I have excluded Tainted Ataraxia from these tests as it has a special true melee effect that gets way overtuned from this (It takes thana from 100 to 70 faster than D.rage does, seriously 250k dps is a bit extreme) but also bc it's efffect and not the true melee itsel has 94% contribution, meaning the true melee aspect of tainted is completely invalidated

I do not think the true melee resist on these things is at fault considering it is also used as a check for other crazy true melee damage like the Murasama or anything possible added in the future

But as it currently stands, tainted is just laughably bad if you don't have a synergy like Ataraxia which makes the effect of the true melee strike, not the true melee itself, significantly overtuned

Can it get a range increase so it can hit twins too please…

lament creek
#

Twins is fine

#

People just need to think outside of the box

#

I find twins to be easier than ares at the moment for true melee

#

Thana cockblocking if you go twins first (WHICH YOU SHOULD) makes ares pain

#

Especially with weapons as shit as these, Thana becomes a problem

#

And if you aren't using void sash you 1000% have to go Twins first as without void sash and drews it is really fucking difficult to bobbit launch to ares going ares first

#

Oh and before anyone asks who remembers

Tainted Burning Sky still has 2k dps against Thanatos

glossy grove
#

tainted had 2 bugs that made it significantly worse i believe

#

no damage scaling and no crit scaling

lament creek
#

It also does scale with melee speed properly

manic fable
#

One more thing is that tainted blades DO NOT exempt from pierce resistance, which make them terribly awful against Ares and Thanatos.

DON'T TELL ME THEY'RE FUCKING PIERCE BUGGED

Calamity Mod Wiki

Pierce Resistance is a mechanic that makes certain bosses and boss servants resistant to piercing projectiles. This system is primarily used by bosses with multiple segments, but is also present on some bosses with large hitboxes that may cause projectiles to hit multiple times. The final damage of piercing projectiles are reduced by 12% for eac...

My biggest contribution to the mod

Lmao

#

But yes, tainted blades would be subject to pierce resistance

lament creek
solar kettle
#

That's how everything works though

#

That's not a bug that's how piercing projectiles work

#

And I'm like 99% sure tainted blades are done with a projectile

lament creek
# solar kettle That's not a bug that's how piercing projectiles work

No I mean

Okay

So lets take Ares for example

Each of his arms and his body iirc have 12% pierce resist

So if you are using say, Gruesome Eminence and hitting all 3, it should be triggering 2 or 3 times (I'm not exactly sure, we'll just say 3 just for simplicities sake)

Then it should only be triggering 3 12% damage reductions

But prior to it being exempt from the pierce resist system, it was dealing 80%+ less damage to Ares than to Exo Twins
Even factoring in the fact Exo Twins have less DR, the math doesn't really work out to be an 80%+ decrease in damage

That's what I mean by pierce bug

solar kettle
#

It's not a set %

#

Read the page

#

It's 12% per times it pierced

#

And as the projectile is infinite

#

It will pierce 7 times and have 80% less damage for the rest of its lifetime

#

That isn't a bug, it's the system functioning exactly as the code intends

#

It just needs exceptions for infinite lasting projectiles (which need infinite pierce to last forever)

Technically yes, but a large number of items there only have one projectile, only have one projectile that pierces, or have all of their piercing projectiles exempt

#

Also some projectiles aren't on the wiki or obvious

#

Like staff of blushie just using a big invisible hitbox when all the chains and flames don't actually do anything

solar kettle
#

I'd be willing to do a redo if we think projectiles would be better, it will probably need a "source/from item" column though, and some may need to have custom redirects when they don't have pages

i’m thinking about stuff like this, no way to tell if it’s left click or right click that’s exempt unless it’s both but i’m pretty sure it’s only right click

solar kettle
#

That one should probably have a specification yeah

#

Just a note is probably fine though, any others you think aren't clear?

trail crown
#

probably

#

also for the enemies tab, don’t different enemies have different amounts of resist? that should be there if so

solar kettle

No
