Crashing Related to Abyss

Im playing multiplayer with friends but this also happens while solo, so our world is currenty pre hardmode with only wall of flesh left. I decided to go to the abyss for the first time and gather some loot but once I got there, the game startet crashing every few minutes at very random intervals.

once I try to break it it crashes my game ...

is there any good way to remove it maybe like tedit but with mod compatibility

Also which version are you playing on? If its 2.0.3.4 its unsurprising but if its 2.0.3.5+ its concerning

Given that the error has been reported way less it means that the fix I made sort of worked

But the bug still happens unfortunately

Anyways to delete this chest go in singleplayer, use cheat sheet’s paint tool to copy a part without blocks and paste it over the chest

hey, my friends and i recently encountered this issue and i figured i'd write up something here confirming that deleting the chest does work! our world was crashing intermittently every 10-30 minutes, and after doing this fix yesterday, it's been a full 24 hours with 0 crashes.

so future gamers, if you're having random intermittent crashes, here's how we fixed ours:

1. installed Hero's Mod for the creative mode and Cheat Sheet for the paint tool. we didn't end up actually needing Hero's Mod, but if the bugged chest would have been deeper in the Abyss, we might have needed to use creative mode to find it
2. we found the bugged chest. it looked exactly like in OP's screenshot that i've reposted in this message. if you can't find it, that's what Hero's Mod is for with the creative mode
3. used the Cheat Sheet to copy and paste a section of the Abyss over the bugged chest and the walls behind it

after doing these steps, our world was completely salvaged with minimal damage!

Found this bug in two worlds created today, but I can't find any bugged chest in the abyss.

I had not visited the abyss at all, I went with cheats and manually deleted ALL chests in the abyss, crash seems to be gone

If it was on an outdated version, yes a lot

For the latest one all the reports have been Multiplayer so far

the world was created on v2.0.3.6, and I'm kinda locked out from accessing it in any way 😔

When I tried to fix the issue it also crashed my game in singleplayer but the world was originally created as a multiplayer world.

So I guess it doesn’t matter if singleplayer or multiplayer

well of course Shade gave me the solution! just copy a part of the abyss over the chest with cheat sheet

when i enter the abyss

i load it and instantly crash

when I fixed it it took a bit because It crashed a lot, so I just used Toastys QoL mod so I can join the server Tp to the abyss quickly explore everything with tp and the save game. then I loaded back up looked at the map and looked at every spot with a chest and tp'd there to look if its the one im looking for

but really tedious since the crash can happen any moment so its a race against time

yeah but the problem is it crashes before u tp, like u cant even see ur character, do u know any way to delete it before rendering it (I know it sounds stupid)?

no I dont maybe if you know the location of the chest use tedit since it will overwrite it but you wont see it in the editor but I dont know any way to remove it without getting close to it

we copied our based and moved the items tedit dosent work with mods

I know but you can still load the world and paste vanilla blocks over the general area of the chest

So my best bet is that multiplayer worldgen is somehow possibly generating already unlocked chests; abyss unlock method attempts to unlock them but you cant unlock an unlocked chest and corrupted tile appears spamming tile updates to nearby tiles and crashing the game

my world is singleplayer and it keeps happening

i found the chests as just black pixels on the map using heros mod

how do i fix them

tp to all the chest look which one looks cursed/bugged and copy some blocks over it with a mod like cheatsheet

I spent hours trying to fix this issue and painting over the bugged chest with cheatsheet just saved my multiplayer world. Just wanted to say a quick thank you to anyone else who already had and solved this problem.

Hello I am a fellow victim of this aswell, is that what the bugged chest looks like? I have removed two ancient chests that look like the left one:

this isn't what the bugged chest looked like for us. it actually looked like it had a tile missing from it, like a graphical glitch almost

the game wasn't crashing until we opened the bugged chest. so maybe go through and try to find chests in the abyss you've opened?

The ones I have removed did not have that locked visual on the right, that means it is opened, yes? (my friend opened them, not me)

I have deleted another ancient chest that was unlocked, heard the sound effect of a bunch of tiles break, and then crashed

I had to open my world in singleplayer to paint the buggy chest titles, when I painted it in multiplayer a lot of chests dropped I got a "lost connection" message, painting in singleplayer works

Painting in multiplayer and singleplayer both resulted in lost connection/crashes for me, I had to toggle skeletron's death bool to false, then paint, then toggle back.

1. Are you pasting over all the bugged tiles at once? you need to have a large enough area selected to go over them all
2. Have you tried pasting over in both single player and multiplayer?
3. Try opening another chest in the abyss to see if that helps/fixes it

I used Cheat Sheet for Godmode and and walked around to all the chests seen on the map and before that I used it to teleport around the entire abyss to uncover the whole map

But always did small progress and saved cuz it’s like a time bomb that could crash any moment

This is the same problem, you have to find the chest as pictured in OP’s image. A messed up chest with a line through it. The issue is the walls around it are bugged as well, I copied a large 10x10 of abyssal wall and pasted it over that area and it worked.

My game crashes the moment I put up the walls. I also tried to fix it on a server and the last thing I could see before it explodes is a bunch of abyss chests falling to the ground. Any solution?

The only fix I found was to do a 10x10 area with the dropper tool at the same time, can you screenshot your chest and how you’re fixing it? Not much I can do for you without seeing

you are doing this in single player? try a larger area. you may be missing a corrupted tile

also, can you screenshot the chest before you tile it away?

may be the screenshot but im not seeing the line, could be a graphical thing as well. best bet is to do quite a large area. make sure you are selecting a large area of abyss wall but make sure you are doing it some distance from the chest and paste over that whole area

I have tried with a 26x24 area now and my game keeps crashing
Chests keep falling to the ground and there's many of them

I think it's because I'm trying it from a server, where it's the one that crashes and not my game, and that allows me to see what happens briefly before I get disconnected
But the server crashes the moment I set the tiles, so I can't interact with the environment when I make the change
