I was gonna suggest something if the events were to be reworked or replaced but womp womp this. I'm gonna drop my idea anyway tho, mainly the lore explaination for it.
Instead of Pumpkin Moon and Frost Moon, after DoG if you were to use a special item crafted from Cosmolite or maybe right click with the Cosmic Worm or something, it could invoke a Cosmic Moon and Auric Sun event respecticely (Solar Eclipse can remain for Dark Sun fragments).
Buffing enemies significantly or adding special turbo buffed varients to drop the fragments could work, or some new enemies and minibosses for each if it were to go the extra mile.
Lore Relevance:
After the serpent's collapse, the essence of Auric Gods it hadn't fully digested were released, but unable to reform due to an affliction from the Distortion, or a blight enveloping it from being consumed by DoG.
The infected essence would gather to the next closest source of Distortion in the regular world, that being what remains of Fovos in the Moon, thus causing the Cosmic Moon buff.
As for the Auric Sun, under the primordial gaze of Xeroc (day), they'd be purified and collect into the Sun to cause this event too.
The Solar Eclipse is, obviously, these two elements mesh to buff the monsters that come during this event, or whatever new would hypothetically come out of it.
Whatever y'all have planned is probably better though, looking forward to seeing it, but thought I'd let this out regardless.
