The way I think of it it's like the calamity bosses having similar to vanilla attacks is kind of like not overworking the player to do bosses multiple times but instead do like a single boss like the twins and then take that knowledge to fight calamitas clone to get more of a grip on the fight but also still introduce new things like the bullet hell phase

The pillars now being collidable and only feasibly destroyed with a pickaxe is actively harmful to the fight as it disencourages horizontal and vertical movement because they'll require weird,unfun movement to get around and eat projectiles (which wouldn't matter a lot if the range is short). The spam of the fists at the start is really darn annoying without a fast-attacking weapon made worse because you can't properly distance yourself, but they have contact damage to ram dash it is. Ravager likes to jump onto you and because you can't properly distance yourself, ram dash it is. Because Ravager starts jumping even more later in the fight (and the head only fires nukes that are rather annoying due to distance problems...) and you can't properly distance yourself, but it has contact damage so ram dash it is.
