Not to mention that someone finding a stone is already exceptional - they're ancient magic inventions that aren't very easy to make and have been abandoned for a while due to Draedon's communication network being more effective

The remaining ones are in locations that wouldn't really be accessible to your average Joe (we're probably gonna put them in the Dungeon, Crags and the one Yharim uses in the Aerie)

The one you find in the early game is that accessible because it was stolen from the Dragon Cult

(If you're asking "how the fuck didn't people find it before the player?", basically, I intend to place it in a sort of buried cabin - this way, it would go completely unnoticed in-universe, but from the players' perspective, there's clearly a closed off chamber buried there)

This approach has a few benefits:

  • It canonically establishes a communication link between Yharim and the player in a way that doesn't give the player inherent importance
  • It allows for more natural dialogue, as not only is Yharim actually talking to you, entries can also pop up outside of boss victories (e.g. the Azafure entry showing up when you first enter the Crags)
  • It condenses all the entries from the current lore items into just one item, making it a lot easier to receive and keep up with the lore
  • The entries won't come from abstract floaty things named after their topic anymore, which lets us abandon the partially misleading nickname "Lore Items" (they're not the lore items, just a category of lore item) for a much more appropriate name (the seeing stone's name, which hasn't been decided yet)

On this topic, Yharim was actually already using the Aerie Stone before the player obtains the basic one!

At least from what I envisioned, the Aerie stone allows him to sort of gaze upon Terraria, kind of like palantíri can see lands far away in Lord of the Rings and the rest of Tolkien's legendarium
