I think the big thing with the fight was to make it a "reverse" of a deus battle. When you fight deus, you eventually free it from the infection (conceptually, you don't actually do that in game (yet?)), while with aureus you'd infect it more and more. And the visual design idea for it was like

Aureus is very robotic and "shaped" at first, and during the fight at first we destroy its legs, which get replaced with glowing magical counterparts (by astral). When we destroy all 4 legs, the infection overtakes the main body and aureus now looks less like a robot and more like a creature. It's shapes are more rounded yet sharp, almost animalistic. The magical legs can change forms for different functions, like spears, hammers, stuff like that

And the general aesthetic for the astral magic would be something akin to rot from rain world, but also stuff like this (the Heimdall arm especially, it's how I imagined aureus regrowing limbs)

At the end of the fight aureus would collapse on the ground and crack in half, revealing glowing magical seed inside that grows into a tree, after which new types of trees and enemies would spawn in the biome

Also not all those ideas were strictly mine, they came from discussion with Fry and Zara, tho I think I shaped most of them

Those were my sketches of the uninfected aureus but I don't like them and I'd like to redo it from the ground up
