I think the idea behind this change is that yeah having this character whos super important and meant to be taken seriously and an actual really evil villain and one of the oldest dragons whos ALmost auric and all that be related to one of the most inherently goofy bosses/enemy groups in the mod kind of took away from that aspect and also separating him from Fishrons further separates him from Fabsol's original idea which while not inherently necessary specially with Old Duke is definitely something that helps unstain his reputation a bit
I believe tobias also thought the hog elements on the design just kinda looked Bad and unserious but like not in a good way

you start really learning of Calamitas, Yharim, the crusade, you meet a survivor of Yharim's actions, you get to be directly involved with the Crusade's aftermath for the first time, you get to acutally learn more about some gods

its also where you seemingly meet your first actual important character directly and before that its just like minor npcs so yeah

theres alot of positive traits about it that get spoken about nowhere outside of it because people dont know anything about it beyond like very shallow surface level information which often involves the negative stereotypes like Sun Hot (True) and Crime (Kind of True but not as universally b ad as people think itis, its kind of like the us where it just depends alot of where you live in that regard)
