I suppose I'm not entirely confident in draedons motives but it seems to me that what he does isn't a selfish desire per se; that is, he doesn't horde knowledge to make himself more powerful, he gains knowledge for his own sake, and I really can't imagine he would not only a) restrict it entirely to himself (especially considering he's not mad at the player for discovering something he hadn't) and b) ignore any potential source of knowledge or insight. Even if his drones or copies are better at most things than most people, I imagine he'd still have other scientists around just for that rare opportunity, or to spread that information further
