The Astral Infection is what happens when a fallen star (that isnt fallen) is left to fester & coalesce with other sources of mana, usually other stars, usually these are devoured by Astrum Deus' species, but when left to their own accord, the Infection develops & makes the star bloat to a great size & becomes the meteors that spread the infection

So it's a bit more complicated than what you said, but you have the basic concept down

A mod doesn't have to appeal for everyone. Calamity doesn't appeal to every terraria player for plenty of reasons, and by that same merit a mod can exist where an NPC doesn't join the team because of your choices/actions.

We dont know why Noxus is gathering power & in hiding, but we do know that Xeroc is actively trying to hunt him down while he's not guarding the world, this is presumably what incited Noxus to go into hiding & send his servant out to collect Godly Essence

We don't know what Noxus' main objective is, but it is fair to assume he's trying to lay low until he can gather enough power to make an attempt at taking down Xeroc
