the astral infection lore
is something i REALLY despise
draedon says that stars are the culmination of mana clumps pressurized together by their own attractive force
and then something goes wrong and somehow during that process theres a disease that gets created
i was so pissed while reading that part
not because of the creation of """stars"""
but because of the creation of the astral microbe
i thought it would be cool if
the concept of mana itself was like magnetism
my theory is that magnetism works by one 3d space of a 4d universe interracting with another via the 5d fabric of reality passing through both
much like gravity
or dark matter
(i speculate that dark matter is just the drag the other 3d spaces leave behind for all spaces within the 4d reality to experience)
so mana would also be some sort of interraction with a higher dimensional plane
this isnt really too far of a stretch since other dimensions DO exist within calamity
such as the distortion
so my theory would be
a microbe of some sort the distortion or some other dimension harbored made it out through lets say
a faulty ritual or a spell cast gone wrong
(wouldnt be the first time)
and this microbe would be able to take over the essence of mana itself
especially that concentrated within fallen stars
(DIFFERENT FROM ACTUAL STARS)
so this microbe, essentially being able to ravage anything and everything in other dimensions due to its vastly different organic structure
would befall other worlds
(terraria in this case)
and infect them with ease
(as shown with astrum aureus being infected despite being a former mech of draedon)
that would be my theory

3. the prey it hunted in the sunken sea and the prey it hunts in the desert are fairly similar (arthropods, in the desert it can hunt antlion and sand poachers, in the sunken sea it likely hunted giant crabs)
4. desert scourge was already semiaquatic
