Bullet hell phases are the get out of jail free card of making boss fights longer and varied

boss fight too short? just plop in a bullet hell phase and call it a day!

oh and make sure the boss is invulnerable during it too!

I don't like it when boss fights do that

I also hate when the boss summons minions to fight for it

and i also hate when bosses have attack patterns that overlap

this happens often in the binding of isaac

quick time events also feel cheap

Sometimes it also happens that boss fights go more like a puzzle than it does an actual fight, like in Zelda games for example, and i don't really look at them as satisfying boss fights. Give me an actual FIGHT, not a glorified puzzle please

If none of these things happen in a boss fight, then i consider it a good boss fight for me, but its rare a fight does NONE of these things

Also sometimes boss fights feels too scripted you know? like the fight feels like you're just playing through a sequence, not actually fighting the boss itself, think of Cronos from god of war 3. I also don't view them as proper boss fights

The thing with minions is that they are cheap ways for lazy devs to artificially increase a boss's difficulty

I think infernum perforators kind of does it well? While each of the perforators are alive, the hive gets invincible but only does simple repeating attacks

If you want an actual explanation, the way I view all Accessories is that they all have some kind of magical property which the Terrarian can draw from. They can only use so many of those because they can only draw the power from that many

Demon Heart and Celestial Onion simply makes you able to draw power from more Accessories at once
