My own headcanon is that the dragon cult was in a lot of trouble because of polter so they had to forbid people from entering to the dungeon (they would be killed and added to it) so they cursed this one conveniently unlucky guy trespassing to protect the dungeon from outsiders. Dungeon guardian would just be skeletron killing you because if you die right away you won’t strengthen polter
