the idea with their final increase in strength is that the aerie itself is magical (draedon ponders if the aerie made the dragons special, or if the dragons made the aerie special; i wanted to explore the former option a little) and they draw upon that great well of magic with the approval of the aerie itself
and the idea of the aerie having a consciousness of sorts is based on auric ore has some form of sentience

i just realized by how Exo mech are built , they are meant to overwhelm Yharim
Thanatos to face tank him head on, Ares giving support in case Yharim overpowered Thanatos, and Atermis&Apollo doing most damage while not needing to confront Yharim head on
Its a shame really that it was destroyed by Terrarian
and most of the gameplay you see with Exo Mech is ended with defeating Atermis&Apollo
because the Terrarian have a lot of Trouble keeping up with their speed
