Relishing in its grand might has made it spoiled; it cannot bear the thought of losing that freedom, for its mind is drunk with torturously great power. It flees from natural light, as it is a sign of the curses waning under the blessing of the sun—a precursor of its power slipping from its grasp, of an end.
Because an end, it seems, is something even the dead can fear. We cling to life until there is not an ounce of it left worth living—and so the Polterghast will haunt the dungeon’s halls forever, for to escape is to truly die; and to die is to lose the one thing they all have left.
