there's several ancient civilizations scattered through the world, their origins and how they ended are usually not the same, some worshipped elder dragons and other monsters, some didn't, they all had different cultures. But there clearly isn't one big civilization that ruled everything that was wiped out at once
the only implication of them hunting a lot of elder dragons is the fact that there's places where you can mine Kushala Daora's steel skin in one of the locales, specifically one littered in ruins. But Kushala Daora has been stated in the past to molt its skin and leave the previous skin behind, allowing for people to collect Kushala's steel skin
there is a mention of a dragon robot known as the "equal dragon weapon", and also of a dragon war, but the war was never described in detail other than "it screwed humanity quite badly", and in the end, both the dragon weapon and the dragon war iirc are scrapped concepts that have rarely been mentioned in recent times
fatalis, as we know, only ended Schrade Kingdom, overnight. It was the potential to end the world but hasn't done so for unknown reasons
