It takes aspects mostly from Christian theology and ancient mythology, when Venus wasn't know really well. This led to Lucifer being called the "morning star" because Venus rose in the morning and was briefly visible before being outshined by the sun. This has been interpreted as Lucifer attempting to outshine God but failing.
Idk the origin on how they came up with Lucifer being Venus tho.

Their king, zeratros was going to die permanently somehow from the wounds and xeroc absorbed their soul to become the first god
News about the ascension spreads and so others start hunting auric dragons to ascend into gods, these ascensions are not perfect and so they’re weaker then xeroc and have different domains from the dragon
Centuries pass with all but the dragon of rebirth being used to ascend
Yharim gets thrown in lava by god worshipers along with yharons egg
Yharon births from the egg and flys yharim out of the lava and tells yharim about the dragons and maybe even accidentally propagandas yharim into wanting all gods dead, they attune
They start a war on gods with permafrosts help but the early gods they kill cause the prehardmode crimson and corruption and sees this as absolute proof of all gods evil
The war wages on as draedon and azafure join yharims side and azafure makes the wall of flesh to hold gods essence
Some gods like slime god and providence had fled from battle constantly hence why they survived
At some point the dragon cult joins yharims yharmy and the dungeon is used to hold prisoners of war
Devourer of gods join and makes the wall of flesh irrelevant to contain god essence
Brimstone elemental awakens and starts nuking azafure immediately, weirdly scal (who was just a pre teen in poverty at this point) gets brimstones powers and tries to stop brim from destroying azafure, and destroys azafure in the process by accident, fire vs fire leads to a tie
Yharim gets scal to evaporate illmeris and she successfully does
Yharim neglects those in the dungeon and polterghast forms, yharim refuses to sort it out so dragon cult cuts ties with yharim
Permafrost leaves and yharim and yharim sends scal to kill him, scal traps him in cryogen to spare him and make yharim think he lives
