honestly, I feel like it's either a chance encounter that the Terrarian saw as an enemy because slimes (in general) attack the player, or the Terrarian knew about the Slime God and wanted to fight it
essentially, we attack it, and the Slime God attacks back
although, that could be very wrong as the motives for why we fight many bosses (and why many bosses fight us) is a bit unexplored, save for lore-important characters
