They're meant to be like a color that's very mottled and out of tone to reflect the state of the habitat they live in and stuff but

the lack of detail in the older sprites makes it look Less like that

gnasher and trashers in particular need a resprite rly bad i feel

I think in general they can have bigger color variation

Most of the fish that lives near shores are not sand colored

They usually try to camouflage in water

Use antishading

So they're usually blue or black and white, or sometimes they're colorful as fuck

Those that live near coral reefs

i agree that abyss enemies need more color variety definitely but
