Add more Paintings
Terraria adds a huge amount of paintings. They're able to be found in alot of places and can be bought by Town NPCs in certain cases. Yet Calamity only adds one painting, chances are you don't even know about it aswell.
Adding more paintings is useful for builders to give more flair to their builds, but can also be a way to communicate lore to the player with. There can be paintings of locations like Ilmeris prior to the Incineration, Permafrost years ago and more. Not every painting has to communicate lore though.
They could be obtained in alot of ways which also makes the player interact more with the world and the Town NPCs.

I will also say that "would this be good in Terraria" is a separate question from "would this be something worth adding to the Calamity mod". Calamity does not have to include every idea which would be cool in a vacuum.

It already has a lot of QoL stuff, and a lot of referential content, included; that said, there's a number of other times people have said "this is a cool idea for a QoL mod, and Calamity is not a QoL mod". Or people have taken those ideas and made them into other, separate mods.

Because that would be wildly out-of-scope for Calamity. Fishing is a vanilla system with plenty of its own deep mchanics whether those mechanics are interesting or not is a separate matter and reworking it into something different could easily be a mod to itself.

Fishing is a big vanilla system, and it works. It doesn't necessarily work great, and there's a major balancing act for how important it is or should be, but it functions.

yeah, duke fishron you technically fish up but you don't really engage with the fishing mechanics in the same way as you do for blood moon enemies.
i kinda want to make a mod that changes how fishing works a little bit so it's more palatable for more people (maybe like, automatically catching fish (unless you have sonar or smth) with a little minigame that's harder but not too hard for rarer catches)

Something I thought about was that instead of something like Stardew Valley, it could instead be something like a game called Spirit Farer, where basically:
Fish fight back against your line, so you have to hold down to reel them in and not lose them, but if you reel them in for too long at once, your line breaks! But even then, it still asks the question of "even if it's fun at first, will it be fun the 20th time in a row?"

i think fishing will be more fun/enjoyable with enhanced visuals, since as it currently is, fishing is at a perfect speed (besides lava fishing, we don't talk about lava fishing) imo
getting a balance of the same speed it currently is while still changing how it works feels like it would be super fucking difficult to even come up with an idea to do so
im also pretty sure fishing is getting better visuals in 145 anyways
For what its worth, that system sounds similar to what Core Keeper does, and after 20 times it is worse than Terraria's (because it demands attention yet doesnt make it varied enough)

i think that trying to give terraria fishing a stardew valley like minigame is a terrible idea because like, terraria has WAY more shit to fish up and way less control over what you catch

i remember coming with an idea for like an infinite bait accessory that, yes, let you fish without bait. but when you weren't using any, your fishing power was halved and you didn't get the power from any bait you would be using (of course) so it's just a lot less efficient

Suggestions like this are another reason why I appreciate the upcoming questlines for Amidias and potentially Statis, because now that's my go-to for how you could prompt a player to interact with lore stuff like this

I set up an autoclicker which barely functioned properly, but it could do just that for me. Very inefficient and very slow. Let it run while I went shopping
Turns out I got killed by Dreadnautilus because I cannot control random bloons, and Dreadnautilus cannot be blocked by walls or stomped by minions/turrets quickly enough
(or at least I didn't invest enough effort into dreadnut-proofing my spot)
For an accessory to work like that it'd also need to disable fishing spawns and random boss spawns (e.x. King Slime, mechs)

the only people who have problems with it are new players
Experienced players fit into one of two categories of "defense damage doesn't matter"
- They can produce setups good enough to where defense damage doesn't matter
- They're experienced enough to avoid hitboxes which inflict defense damage
Inexperienced players are the opposite
- Their setups can suffer greatly from defense damage
- They are prone to getting hit by hitboxes which inflict defense damage

@charred geyser There is a way to disable double tap set bonuses in general or enable them for calamity armors in the sunken sea update already shared in #changelogs, so this has already been done in it's own way
you can usually tell because they just make things up which show you they haven't actually interacted with the mechanic in any meaningful way
like they'll say that everything inflicts defense damage
or that defense damage takes away all of your defense
or something else that isn't true and is relatively easy to disprove
Also defense damage is probably not dying
At least not without major overhaul to tanking as a whole

Yeah I just checked. I got hit by every hitbox under the sun and I only got defense damage twice. Defender's contact damage and... I'm not really sure wtf hit me the second time but it's plausible it was Commander contact damage.

im not good enough at dodging to beat a fight with a glass cannon setup, closests ive done was during my first playthrough on multiplayer, where i was always under the effect of the odd mushrooms until moonlord, but i can beat a fight by stacking so much defense i can wait until i cna learn the pattern through trial and error and just

honestly i have a lot of issues trying to slot in offensive accesories even if they are cool š i love defensive builds too much

(i'm super aware that i could just be very dumb in this case, i don't use discord a ton & a lot of it is very unintuitive to me).
if this is already done, could you show me where to disable the double-tap down/up for set bonuses? similar to discord, i find the config menus a bit confusing, just a lot of information overload.
