That's not at all a good reason plus you can like, use hell stone or ash blocks or fire blossoms as similar hell material gates
Ash blocks being the best option if you want to preserve theoretical early game tier while also needing to go to hell

because the concept is so good but it's wasted
You could talk about how the item looks old and it's not on par with modern items and that it could drastically improve the quality of the mod

It's a cal biome surely you should be able to make a base there like any other biome... it wouldn't be early at all as you still need to be threatened by the biome if you're around post Polter so it'd be later than that
the station from calval gives you an unlimited water dreathing, but the air pockets still damage you
I guess you can justify having it directly post Polter but be rather expensive so that you need to finalize conquering the biome
Anyway the point is, there's a good bit of space to work with

that's another thing I don't like. Melee has boomerangs but Calamity insisits on both not touching vanilla boomerangs and also only adding their own boomerangs to thrower
so melee starts out with boomerangs early in the game but then loses them

if you scroll through the donor content list youd most probably have done that already

For example, when you beat DoG, there are like 10 donator guns made of cosmilite, and a few underpowered or boring non donor weapons
there has also been work to help with that kind of stuff
All the basic DoG drops are kinda weak, maybe weaker than the best items in the previous tier, last I tried them

I assume it's because of the change of making dodges not proc on hits that don't deal a lot of damage
It's only EMirror so it's likely an oversight, the other dodges were fixed
(They were also oversights)

Felt appropriate as a place where you might find her despondently reflecting on her past mistakes. My lore knowledge isn't all that comprehensive though, and I'm not too attached to that solution specifically.
here is a list of every issue I have with calamity vanilla item recipes
Ankh Charm Ingredients - Shimmer makes these twice as easy to get, the recipes are far too easy and remove the need to ever farm enemies
Anklet of the wind, Feral Claws, Staff of Regrowth - These are all guaranteed in the vernal pass, if you need additional copies shrines are common and you can fish.
Cobalt Shield, Muramasa, Shadow Key - Due to dungeon generation rules, these are always guaranteed in the first 3 chests, if you need additional copies there are almost always multiple chests of them and you can fish. Shadow Key is additionally guaranteed in the forsaken archive.
Lava Charm - Shimmer makes this way easier to get, and is already an alternative to fishing.
Shoe Spikes - The main time you would need this, for ninja gear, bandit already sells tiger climbing gear
Flying Carpet/Sandstorm in a bottle - These items are annoying to get and I agree they need another method of obtainment, but why give sandstorm and carpet both a crafting recipe when you also give it a shimmer obtainment of only 15 amber. There is no reason to have both.
Lihzahrd Power Cell - Why is the consumable version of the summon post Plantera, uses a crafting table from the temple, and limited to the altar, when Old Power Cell is non consumable and obtained earlier. This recipe has no reason to exist when Old Power Cell does
Gelatin Crystal - These things are so common it isn’t even funny, due to them not being consumable you get like 4 from a single hollow trip and 3 are useless.
Bug Net - You do not need a bug net for the 2 minutes of gameplay before the merchant arrives.
Desert Minecart - Why is this one specific cart craftable when none of the others are?

I would say the recipe should be more expensive as they are extremely easy to make, but given the fact that arena building is a large aspect of boss fights, I don't see why they can't be crafted, just needs to be pricier
