I think bein' literally unable to die for 8 seconds is just a little bit cooler to most people than "here's an amount of health that normal post-Plantera enemies can do and no extra effects"

last I fought Yharon, I found myself not wantin' to use the God Slayer dash because the last thing I needed was to incidentally fling myself into a fireball on the opposite end of the map

granted for some the connection is ass (dog and LC) but the overarching theme is there

is there any way to make the sulphurous sea always count as an ocean biome for the purpose of NPC happiness? i built my sulph pylon right on the edge of the water but i guess my sea was pretty wide since it didn't count as ocean, which is very weird. id make a suggestion about this but i know that tmod is weird in relation to NPC happiness rn

the world switcher doesn't do anything about that, because the hardcoded line of where "ocean" starts doesn't change depending on the check for which side has the abyss
it was just weird when i built housing expecting it to be ocean bc it was on the shore and then all the NPCs called it a forest biome
im pretty sure there is a certain line where if i built in far enough into the water it would also be an ocean since the underlying line is still there

like i still got the sulph pylon but because of the fact that modded biome can't affect NPC happiness yet im in this weird middle ground

hey! thank for the response, for builds optimizing The Bee you'd still fall off toward the end of hardmode. Flat damage increase is potentially problematic, but there are diminishing returns on effectiveness as you roll through the game to the point where it becomes useless again around when moonlord is beaten even with a Bee Build.
i mean
These diminishing returns are a function of weapon damage increasing drastically in calamity over time. Anyway, luxor's gift is free flat damage for an accessory slot, The Bee is flat damage if you can maintain 100% health. It would allow certain early game build options without stifling build creativity later on.
you shouldnt be able to use one accessory for the entire game
you wouldn't, as I said, the diminishing returns of such a small flat damage increase would fall off naturally as base damage gets much higher
a prehardmode accessory lasting until moon lord is problematic
If you specialize entirely into its strength it will last that long should you go full damage reduction, that doesn't seem problematic to me
also i get that calamity's damage does increase pretty drastically but still on things hit a lot and very fast it has nearly always been an issue (see; armor pen, which is effectively the same thing)

I think the difference between your example and the occasions when mine despawns is the amount of time he spends offscreen (not super far offscreen, still visible on the minimap)
Since TOD can dash across over half the screen at once I try to keep him slightly outside the bounds of my screen so that I can still aim at him but he isn't close enough to hit me in one dash
I get that intentionally keeping the boss offscreen is practically begging for a despawn but given that its not that far offscreen + I'm not trying to despawn him its just me trying to not get hit I don't think the player should be punished for doing that so a slight increase in radius would be nice

Should clarify I meant amount of consecutive time offscreen since I think him showing up in screen even slightly resets the timer, but having him completely offscreen for like 15 sec will despawn him

hellstone is instead only breakable through a special new tier of pickaxe crafted from bones and can also be looted from dungeon chests

Yeah it usually happens when it does one of those attacks where it stays relatively in place and then rests immediately afterwards (ex. the spiky urchin attack or the vortex summoning one) and I don't want to be close to the boss when it finishes resting since it'll immediately dash into me
I'm not actively running away from it while its doing that though im just kind of sitting a little ways away while it is still visible on the minimap

15 seconds is a very generous time especially for a boss that, for the most part, definitely do not require you to stay as far away as you claim for it especially after the nerf on shark debris
it is difficulty to just outrun for 15 seconds continuously on a normal setup even, as shown in the video I try to drag as much distance as possible yet it is still not 15 seconds
15 consecutive seconds is certainly possible when the mf is resting

and that point then yes, I will say old duke's despawn is an anti-cheese mechanic if it is this difficult to outrun it for 15 seconds with a normal setup
for comparison a boss that is notorious and have actual despawn issue is Plantera
it instantly despawn if it is out of your screen (yes, literally just out of it) for around 3 seconds, it literally despawn when you try to drag it to your arena
truly a plant moment
I didn't have any issues with Plantera despawning I'm assuming because I just summoned and fought it in Vernal Pass
I would argue that there should be a phase-3 type teleportation for anti-cheese rather than despawning halfway into a 10 minute long fight
I'm playing melee so I'm not even keeping as much distance as I would as say, ranger

because phase 3 teleport is not supposed to be an anti-cheese, it is supposed to be an attack that just happens to teleport to you, which happens to just allow you to outrun it anyway because it do not really stop you from outrunnning but just feed more into the cheese strat by preventing itself from despawning
like I said, if it is this difficult to outrun it in a normal situation, you almost certainly have to be deliberately doing something, with the intention of cheesing it in mind, for it to be out of your screen consistently for 15 seconds, at that point yes the boss will despawn
if you want to prove that it is very easy to do this (outrun it consistently for 15 seconds, without specific setup), just record it, because I think you need at least 150% movement speed (which most build do not have unless with full quick, which will still be difficult without +1/2 movement accessory) just to outspeed it even with constant dash, or have absurdly large arena for the fight
and of course the "10 min long fight" not sure if it is overexaggeration or not, because in my experience only FTW take that long which at that point the "forced to be far away from OD" part is certainly expected because you signed up for FTW, because in its current non-ftw state the fight definitely do not requi you to be far away from OD always, like at all
