Not sure if this was intended but what I found myself doing during my mage playthrough so far is using different weapons for different boss phases / enemies. Or even using weaker weapons against certain bosses since another stronger one was too slow or couldn't really work well against the boss. It's made the whole experience a lot more dynamic and the greater utilization of the player's arsenal at hand is something I've really enjoyed.
The reworked progression of early hardmode was something that I didn't expect to like so much. I hope that other stages of vanilla are tweaked in that sort of direction to create a new Terraria experience out of existing content
