Oh you mean SP7, ya that one can telefrag sometimes
I made it a habit where I basically stay static before the charge so I dont get telefragged by that anymore
I have done a little bit of testing myself and while I forgot about the alcohol thing, that could be replaced with other potions of similar effects (that and Ian said my times were about right anyways)
also if you die to a boss hundreds of times then you're just bad 
I don't remember when sp7 starts, and even then below 30% getting clipped by the telefrags is not hard to do
that bosses are too hard without potions

Bosses are balanced around a balanced build, since that's generally what most players would do, is use a more balanced build
And with potions in mind
That are not alcohols because of the downsides, leading a lot of players to not use them
potions shouldnt have to be balanced around potions stat-wise at all but its either that or rebalancing every potion in a way drastic enough it may make them useless )at least to the average player's eyes who needs 30% more dps per potion or its bad automatically

Fair. Duke I already just stand still and just ram with valor, so should do that next time I fight Yharon. Just sometimes the dashes can also come out faster than I can react, which can lead to many unfortunate deaths

They aren't, the mod is just balanced around potions because people are going to use them (why wouldn't you? Not using potions is a self imposed challenge which the mod does not balance around)

Yeah. I have gotten better at being able to not die as easily anymore (My Master-Death run had a surprising 8 attempts for Yharon, my most for Yharon on Death being 24) but yeah, I will pay better attention next time

Ya, the tldr of this is if you dont use potions at all:
You will have below average dps and kill time for bosses, you will do ok on defense, and you dont really need movement potions and your gear do just fine

if using potions are expected in the balancing of the bosses, then to have a fair shot at the bosses you have to use potions. maybe mandatory isn’t the right word but I think it’s close if you aren’t overwhelmingly fantastic at the game
also like if you don't want potions from npcs just don't buy them

I think all the potions you need to have a fair shot at the boss is:
Food buff, regen, lifeforce (depend on gear), rage and wrath (or at least one of them)
And thats it
Or Cadance instead of Regen and lifeforce
And currently all of them are sold by npc
I know we are on a discussion on removing npc potion selling, but this is just to give a perspective on how much potions you need

besides, the basis of the proposal is to make the summons of the bosses to the moonlord consumable, the potions are only additional

@trail dagger I get what you are saying, and it indeed is frustrating. (Similar to farming voltaic jelly for half an hour and the nrealizing it cannot drop if you havent killed DS). But getting those items before Polterghast would make a lot of the balance a joke. Especially since Reaper shark just lets you kill him sometimes.

I'm wondering if the level of challenge in defeating an Abyss miniboss is comparable to something like defeating Ana & Levi in PreHardmode (something we do reward)
Cuz on one hand they're intended to be fought much further on the game and it's in the Abyss which is trecherous
But on the other hand they are only minibosses with much more similar behavior compared to Ana & Levi
i think collossal squids are nullified by blocks and reaper sharks out of water (if you cqn get it out) are basically eye of cthulhu half the time
layer 3 and 4 are the most punishing and..... pre hardmode you don't have that much
getting there is already a problem because everything will oneshot you
Currently, the depths of the Abyss are a challenge, available right from the start. The player shouldn't be punished for accepting the challenge earlier than expected.

because at this point it's a bit ridiculous i think
getting post poltro gear in phmode is leagues above almost every other possible progression skip in the game
even if this would be also arguably the hardest

Because, while that would be comparable to us opening up skips after major progression steps (like Eidolon Tablets becoming available after WoF, Jungle Dragon Egg becoming available after ML (technically Solar Pillar)),
the player does not actually get any new Abyss survival tools after Polterghast. Abyssal Diving Suit is a Luminite craft
So players could very easily treat the Miniboss drops as directly post-ML content without too much struggle
or making air not lower your hp to 100 and stop there

The mains problem with the Abyss Bosses dropping stuff early is how cheesable they are. Sometimes they even do it themselfes. And the Air can be just be ignored with teleporters or HomePotions.

Then you can craft those IOUs with Luminite to get their respective item
So you've got delayed gratification for doing the fights early, in a way that doesn't break balance too hard

So, looking at the suggestions that popped up since I was gone and doing some back reading:
You all missed the memo with the Reaper tooth stuff. Everything but the Monsoon and Reaper Tooth necklace requires either Phantoplasm or Divine Geodes + The Storm (from storm weaver)
The necklace can be gotten post gss if you decide to go with the suggestion, but that means you are running with the abyssal diving gear and not even the suit, and with low tier gear you have to kill a 300k+ mini boss, that is insanely challenging by itself.
Monsoon needs an ancient manipulator, so you need to kill the cultists to get it anyways, and even cultist gear would have a hard time killing a reaper shark (not to mention the annoyance of giant squids and trying to not hit an Eidolon Wyrm, so there is a lot of luck involved and it's tedious. Might run out of air before you can kill it) And then the rest you cannot craft without Phantoplasm anyways, so it's just two things.
The ravager one is just... Dash when he is about to fall on top of you and the pillars aren't much of an issue.

Imo while this is pretty subjective, having pillars spawn further from the player will ruin the attack; if pillars are easier (easy) to kill it will invalidate the attack too
Flame pillars completely rely on having it spawn in close distance to each other to work, so you have to deal with '2 flame pillars' at once, making them spawn further is not just an anticheapshot but also make the fight much easier
I think the better approach will be to make the stomp have different sound effect so it can be much clearer that the stomp is deciding pillars spawn and movement; and rework ravager fist
Currently you can fight ravager while moving extremely slowly (which solves the problem in the suggestion), just the fist force either extremely high fire rate and accurate weapon (that has block piercing due to rock pillar) or to run away

Agreed, but if you just need a couple more pieces of ore for a recipe, you don't want to just craft an obsidian skin potion just to get the extra few. Plus it's the only vanilla ore that isn't renewable.
(base ores and hardmode ores can be found in fishing, meteorites can keep falling, hallowed by mech bosses, chlorophyte can be grown, and luminite is luminite)
That would be pretty nice just to have it be renewable if you're trying to do a massive build on a vanillaish world
