The thing with performance mods in Terraria is that the game doesn't render the way other games, say, Minecraft would, so it's a lot harder to find things to optimize effectively

I see everyone dodging it by going diagonal up then horizontal, but when I try it, I get hit

I suspect there's some amount of very small movement detail I'm missing but it throws out my entire fight

Start the fight and then just stand still

You’ll die, obviously, but you’ll see the areas the lances cover

There are four gaps in each diagonal direction between the vertical and horizontal lances

As a second play through I’d say get more familiar with Calamity as a whole rather than immediately jumping into adding more stuff into a behemoth of a mod.

Stars Above's 'full dialogue' is years out of date, I don't know if they keep up with Calamity balancing anymore.
Fargo's Souls should only be done if you beat it before on its own.
