for your arena, platform placing is completely just up to your own preference but what I personally like to do is build a very very wide platform, and placing layers about 35 blocks apart and then using a hammer to hammer every single platform for easier movement control. About 5 layers should be plenty, but will be time consuming. (I personally use 2 QoL mods for arena building, so my way of doing it might feel like overpreparation to most.)

Dog is a ram dash based enemy and his movement can be manipulated pretty much however you want. What I like to do for him is flying up to the top of my arena, then running in a straight line and using the ram dash key (I use mb5, this can be changed in the calamity mod settings) everytime he gets close to me. This way I dont have to worry about anything until lasers come in, where I can just keep doing the same thing and running. Reposition yourself during lasers phase if you are in a bad spot in the arena.
Use the witchs broom for laser grids, it helps out a ton.

If you do things right, it will be a little more difficult than usual, but not too bad.

The MOST difficult thing about it will be rewiring your brain to make true melee work.

If you play it the same way as you did anything else it will not function at all

You need to figure out how to position yourself more wisely so that you can get in safely, deal adequate damage, and get out safely
