I usually just run my core loadout but swap my wings for diving suit, and boots for another dive related accessory of choice

aquatic heart is really good in the abyss, so is the amulet from aquatic scourge

also, gills potion is non-negotiable

with gills + arctic diving gear or better I'm pretty sure you can have infinite breath all the way until layer 3 or 4

diving gear alone you don't even get infinite breath in layer 1
