I found a listing for a used 1060 6gb, it was fairly priced and looked decent enough, there were no decent cards at that price point, so i just went with it. Contacted the seller, he was all upfront about the fact that it was used in mining, went into great details to as how long it has been used, in what conditions the card has been etc. Now, i think for the time being this can be one hell of a temporary GPU while prices are shit for newer GPU's.
Before i bought it, i asked him to do a stresstest - one in unigine heaven, other in furmark, he provided proof that both seem to work just fine, although the low temps on the furmark looked odd, i said whatever.
We arranged the meeting, he went into even greater detail, turns out he had 3 1060's, all given to him by a miner friend, who mined them years ago and no longer is interested on that. He also mentioned that 1 of em was confirmed to be faulty, but he was assured he gave me the right one.
I went home, insert the card, turn on annnnd... really audible fan noise. Immediately contacted the seller, he told me it must have been the faulty one, we met up quickly, exchanged it for another one, the one that should be working. Went home, plugged it in as the other one, noise wasnt nearly as bad, just the fans acting up a tiny tiny bit. Stresstested it, seemed fine enough - max temp 75 degrees. Pretty optimal. Now, i booted up some games and with gta i noticed something weird - the fps between high-very high settings and low settings was pretty minimal, which i found weird. Startex doing research, turns out it had a custom mining bios on it, 4000 instead of 2000 mhz memory clock, pretty darn evident. I thought, maybe i can just reflash to a normal bios. Restarted the PC and my god, the fan speeds, they were back up, so much that they outright started barely moving. Contacted the seller again, told the issue, he offered to either refund or exchange for the third 1060, obviously i am gonna refund it. I had one hell of an experience, but hey, at least i learned from it.

Oh and the board partner for all of em were zotac, 2 of em being the regular amp! edition and third being the more fancy gddr5x version.

I need help. I got an issue about XMP. When I turn it on, when I close my computer from Windows my computer restart everytime instead of shutting down. If I disable XMP I don't have this issue.

the first one outright had fans broken to the point where i just didnt even bothered booting it up

second one was better, but also had fans randomly ramping up and bios reflashes did absolutely nothing

and set it to like 30% fan speed at like 50 degrees

and that was already enough

to make the fans go crazy

Havent heard a clicking noise, but yeah, it would suddenly ramp up to full speed

and that would make one of the fans to just start failing

it would slow down

like to the point of barely spinning

Already spent enough time testing the second one, gonna give the third one a try and if that wont be good enough, then i have 2 options from the seller`s side - either he gets me the card with broken fans for half the price or if the bios also fails, i will just get a full refund and ill return the card

Personally got low expectations for this

all cards are the same zotac amp! model and they all most likely share the same mining bios

But we`ll see, because supposedly if the card does not behave differently after a bios reflash, its an issue for the card
