Think of it this way, the server master makes a session after matchmaking, tests each connection, sets a host then the host listens and the server on his residential connection's made.

#

If he leaves, game's paused for all, session manager (master) repeats the process to choose another host.

Clients move from A to B, it gets sent to the server / master and then...?

"click bios 5" shows the shitty gse lite bios that looks like a bios from 5-6 years ago

cold elbow

Because msi reverted to that in order to add more supported CPUs
After all the bios chip has finite amount of storage

Would take that bios anyday to support a new cpu that got released.

analog wharf

yea ik, they did that to support the 3000 series

cold elbow

Yeah i used ryzen 3600 on an msi b350 and it worked perfectly and also supported a lot of ram modules.

analog wharf
#

the motherboard/bios dont matter that much, you will go in the bios maybe like 1-2 times to enable xmp, mess with fan control and enable virtualisation if you ever plan on using a virtual machine for some reason but try to get a mobo that supports 3000+ mhz ram

#

also sometimes on older boards you will need to bios update to use a new cpu on new boards you shouldn't have an issue pairing with a new cpu

#

should just work right out of the box

junior flax
#

hello

#

so im looking into overclocking my i5 4690k

#

my motherboard is a Z97P i have no clue how to do this shit

#

😂

#

its currently running at 3800mhz

brave field
#

Grab HWiNFO

#

get some stats on your current load temps and where the CPU puts its boost clock generally

#

after, you can head into BIOS and start moving your clock speed/multiplier up slowly, saving, resetting, and testing for stability

#

when things get unstable, you'll need to raise your CPU's voltage with it, a bit (much slower than your clock speeds, going too far causes FAST overheating and potentially, damage).

junior flax
#

This is the link?

#

Just wanna make sure

brave field
#

You can probably get something around 4.3ghz with yours without a huge amount of tweaks

yup

junior flax

junior flax

ok i found cpu

junior flax
#

and stuff?

#

sorry if im an idiot

brave field
#

keep your eyes on the temperature, the software-reported voltage, and clock speeds, yes. Also consider checking your motherboard's VRM temps. Once you know what's up, you can start raising the multiplier bit by bit in your BIOS. Optionally, you can use Intel XTU without having to reboot, but you'll still want to set it in the BIOS once you're done with testing

Need help finding a gaming laptop For warzone, Forza 5, gta 5/rp and Fortnite good very good graphics £600 plz with bigger screen min 15.6 and above

analog wharf
#

you aint finding a gaming laptop with that budget

#

maybe save up like 100 or 200 more and you might be able to get a prebuilt that can run at medium/low settings but seeing the state of prebuilts, pcs in general tbh too you have to be lucky asf

#

and some prebuilts aren't even disappointing just funny

#

i dont really like prebuilts but not all prebuilts have 2021 gpus paired with cpus 500 years old

or the other way around, not all of them have 2021 cpus paired with 500 year old gpus

Ok guys I have a fucking huge problem and I need everyone's help who is actually serious about helping, my xbox recently shit the bed it wouldnt turn on it only made very faint sounds when I tried to use the power or the eject button this is a first gen xbox it is the one that came out like a month after release maybe not even anyways o thought because of it's old age it was broke I took it apart cleaned it made sure everything was put together and it turned on but the controller kept disconnecting randomly everytime I tried to play with it so my friend let me borrow his and now it's doing the same thing it wont turn on only making faint sounds and I'm not taking it apart until he gives me the go ahead so what the fuck is causing this

kindred temple

Yeah its not dust issue at all

Either PSU in which youre fucked, get a new one

Or its the issue with the HDD being dead

timid nymph

But none of those can be the case because my xbox I took apart and put back together is working fine it just wont keep my controller connected

That's why I dont wanna take my buddies apart because I dont want the same shit to happen to his even tho he already has a xbox one series x

Hey does anybody know any good pc to buy i play gta and plan on making videos I live in Australia and have never played pc before

brave field
#

Budget?

oblique aspen
brave field
#

Hmm

#

How available are the RTX 30 series in nearby stores there?

oblique aspen
brave field
#

Being able to get a GPU is the hardest at the moment, the rest of the PC can be done for $800 or less. If getting the GPU at a good price is impossible, you'll sorta have to skimp on the other parts

oblique aspen
#

Ok so what the main stuff I need to make my pc run good

#
#

Is this good

#

Am I allowed to send that link in this group chat

brave field
#

For playing GTA, not much, just decent singlethread speeds. For video recording, definitely an RTX GPU, for their hardware encoders. The rest likely doesn't need anything much more from those

#

You can send links here. That system looks good, but is likely very overpriced

oblique aspen
#

Wait so what do I want for smooth gta

brave field
#

A PC without the GPU (like this https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/bHK3nL) is under $800. Noting the 5600G/X being $100 more and the board being some $20-$20 more, this puts the 3060 at $1000 in that prebuilt, which you can probably get for cheaper in another prebuilt or with stock notifications

oblique aspen
#

I just want to play games smoothly

brave field
#

your budget is more than enough for smooth games, that's not an issue really

oblique aspen
#

Oh what

#

Is 1 grand good for pc to run games

#

Cause I just wanna play games and be able to store a lot of games

#

But not to many

brave field
#

We're currently in a situation where prices are the worst they've been in a whole decade, but yes

oblique aspen
#

Oh god that’s good news hahaha

#

Ok

brave field
#

arguably you could go lower than 1k AUD if we weren't having production/stock/pandemic problems right now, but its pretty bad atm

#

If you have the higher budget, its worth, since cheaper parts aren't being produced at all

oblique aspen
#

Oh ok right Thankyou

brave field
#

Look for the cheapest thing you can find in your preferred store with an RTX 3060, 3060ti, 3070, or higher in it, and send some links

#

nothing else will be as important as finding a GPU, they're 3x-4x their normal price. That PCPP link shows just how insignificant in price all the other parts are in comparison

oblique aspen

I’ll check it

#

I will buy the pc next year and send a pic when I get it Thankyou very much

jovial tide
#

Oh next year everything will be different

#

You might also wanna look into GTX 1660; this shortage is gonna last, so taking time won't help much.

brave field

oh yeah, next year none of this will be relevant

#

Really in just 3-4 months things are going to change quite a bit

oblique aspen
#

Oh well I’m broke right now

#

Welp that’s great 😩😪

jovial tide
#

They'll say shortage, price of 2060, 3060, and 4060 will still be similar

#

Miners are gonna buy in mass; therefore GPU shortage as well.

brave field
#

worse is still change

#

also 12400 + boards and such

oblique aspen
#

Unless when my mum wakes up I ask how much I have in savings

jovial tide
#

That's the good side

oblique aspen
#

If I have any

#

And if she lets me spend

jovial tide
#

Like my prediction is board+cpu+rams will be better but for gamers it's gonna get worse.

#

It's gonna be great for repairshops thought 😉 and miners as well. people will start buying second hand cards a lot, and fix them alot too.

brave field
oblique aspen
#

Well I’m going to ask mum when she wakes up and I’ll text you guys pics if I get it one day cya have a good day thanks for all the help 😁

brave field
#

GPU situation isn't getting any better though, ye

#

anytime friend

jovial tide
#

Think about it Cookie

#

You can find lots of good prebuilt "shells" and miner cards that won't last that long.

brave field
#

Of the 4 largest increases in mining so far, none of them have resulted in hardware that doesn't last long

jovial tide
#

I'm thinking making a company specializing in GPU repairs would help a lot.

#

Idk I've seen some people having problems on reddit

brave field
#

Nothing in 2012, nothing in late 2015, nothing in 2017, why now?

jovial tide
#

Well covid + china's scheduling + harder and harder and harder hashes

brave field
#

harder hashes just means you'll need to use a stronger GPU to complete it quickly, it doesn't push already running ones harder

jovial tide
#

Exactly

#

So they will sell the older ones, like their 3070s, 2060-2070s and so on to replace with newer cards

#

Besides, these sell for considerable amount + don't have warranty

brave field
#

seeing no connection between durability here but hopefully Nvidia has relatively poor sales in 2024-2025 and start making budget GPUs again

jovial tide
#

Umm, connection is the warranty

#

Putting a warranty on top of a device is a calculated decision; usually it starts to break after.

#

And I don't mean not working, degrading by a lot is a part of it.

brave field
#

Still not seeing how miniscule degradation on a card that functions like-stock is going to cause an instant increase in repairs for cards under 5 years old, but not having warranty is unfortunate.

#

Nvidia is going to keep prices high regardless of how consumers act

jovial tide
#

Nobody does really

#

Like if I bring a card that used to do 1900MHz now barely does 1600MHz max to a repair shop; they would say this is working no problem with it.

#

But is it?

brave field
#

300mhz drop is definitely not like-stock

jovial tide
#

Yeah but it works

brave field
#

I think the dump of used 1060s/580's in the market once budget RTX GPUs are going to bring that sort of change though

jovial tide
brave field
#

They're legitimately older and under heavier use, but with how boosting is handled, it's probably most visible through power consumption

#

Testing Games regularly fakes videos, nah

jovial tide
#

See, the card above for example

#

is running at 86 degrees after 1.5 years; repaste + changing pads would help it a lot

brave field
#

Note the complete and total lack of information regarding mining here

jovial tide
#

It says this

brave field
#

nothing?

#

They mention the word once

#

Mining what currency? What temps? What clock speeds? What memory speed? What mining program? 24/7?

jovial tide
#

Oh we don't know

brave field
#

This could be literally any GPU running underclocked as more bait for blogspam websites

jovial tide
#

We just know this card tried to make hashes at maximum capacity maybe

brave field
#

For ~5 years mining programs have been automatically undervolting Nvidia cards and decreasing difficult if the GPU's core temp goes above 70C

jovial tide
#

But as a large scale miner why would you care?

brave field
#

but there's no stats here, not even a full sentence to point at it being mined on

jovial tide
#

Like people are still gonna buy it at a decent price, and deal with the problems themselves.

brave field
#

as a large scale miner you wouldn't care, so you wouldn't go out of your way to recompile with the automatic undervolting disabled? What do you mean?

#

Its infinitely more work to damage a card than not to

jovial tide
#

Yes you can clean the fans periodically, do maintenance; but let's be honest most of these cards are replaced within if not right after 2 years

#

If I had mining farms, I wouldn't bother limiting the performance by temp

#

2 degrees below maximum temp is fine + undervolt to make it more profitable (for me)

brave field
#

Nobody would bother limiting, its automatic and built in by default. Not saying there's no chance of damage somewhere of course, GDDR6 temps going into the 100C range, while entirely safe, is still worrying

#

but this video has 0 credibility, from a channel that routinely fakes their benchmarks, hard to use that as a source

#

Between lolminer/TeamRedMiner/NanoMiner/NBminer/the mining distros decreasing difficulty on their own >70C and memory doing most of the work for ETHash-based coins, why would core damage be so likely on cards used 2 years as most?

#

We're also missing stats on when Monero was mined on GPUs in 2017, when XMRig didn't bother to limit hardware if temperatures got high. There's a complete lack of posts or videos about GPUs or CPUs running at lower frequencies from there, why?

#

@jovial tide Do you have info on how long a card has to be at max temp while overclocked to be damaged?

#

Closest I've found of anything reliably reporting GPU damage ever was when Nvidia and AMD started limiting Furmark in their drivers, since it pulled too much power though the PCB and annoyed the traces when overclocked. If you have more sources, could you link, so I could read?

jovial tide
#

See

#

The answer to why comes back to use, a gamer would play like some hours (me maybe 2-4 hours a day) vs a miner would use the guy to its maximum 24/7

#

And that gamer sometimes gets into trouble, RMAing or repairing his card. so I wouldn't be surprised. Why? I don't know really.

brave field
#

I wish we could pass this to someone in a spot to get this research info

jovial tide
#

That would be great, that would help a lot

#

Like after all the videos after "should you buy gpu from miners" we still don't know.

brave field
#

someone both with experience mining long-term and experience testing cards to the fullest. Outside of personal anecdotes on questionable forums and LTT/GamersNexus going "Yes, mined on GPUs are safe" a few years back, we have nothing but the r/pcmasterrace "I got a DOA card and I'm 99% sure it was mined on in the factory and not just a defect. I'm not going to file an RMA, be mad for me and spam ASUS' twitter!"

jovial tide
#

LTT said the problem is cooling

#

If the miner doesn't keep their cards well cooled they will degrade; and because of lack of stress to the GPU (constant hashing) they are less likely to be dmged

brave field
#

A straight "Worst case scenario" study with a poor bin (opposite of winning the silicon lottery-type) before and after running a consistent workload on its core with findings being recorded monthly for 4 years would be interesting

#

Even with LTT/GN conclusions, the conclusions are just so limited. LTT mentions currencies that have never been GPU-mineable or Bitcoin, which stopped being mined on GPUs back in 2014, and GN didn't go very far into what the workload was

#

Comparing Furmark to mining, what does it even achieve

jovial tide
#

I wish I knew the answer

#

But the general thought about everything sold is, if it's used industrially; it'll get dmged more (and that's why warranties expire if they figure out it's used for industrial purposes)

arctic yarrow
#

Doesn't mining treat cards better than gaming, since thermal stress from heating up and cooling down isn't a factor?

#

Obviously, you would need to clean, repaste, and change thermal pads, but I think after that's all done, the mining card would last longer than a gaming card, assuming they didn't overheat the memory.

brave field
#

The fans can take a beating depending on the model, but that's a pretty accepted take. Thermal cycling is bad for surface mounted components on the PCB

arctic yarrow
#

Mining causes cards to run 24/7, so there isn't any thermal cycling with the exception of occasional maintenance.

brave field
#

yupyup

arctic yarrow
#

Personally, when I see massive rigs with a ton of cards all mining, I don't think "oh, they're ruining those cards." Instead, I think "Wow, he's contributing to the already worsening gpu pricing."

civic cloud
#

youre first defining two functions (double and void thing) then write your actual program which uses those functions

arctic yarrow
#

I'm a python scrub, but I think the square(double x) function does the arithmetic, the print_square(double x) prints a string with the output of the function square(double x), and the main function calls the print_square(double x). Correct me if I'm incorrect.

civic cloud
#

im glad we agree

brave field
#

double square(double x) accepts any number with the double type and multiplies it by itself
print_square(double x) prints "The square of {the number you entered as x here} is {the value of x squared here}"
The main() function says to run print_square() and pass 1.234 as x

main() runs first, gets to print_square(1.234), where it prepares the string "The square of 1.234 is," executes square(1.234) and gets 1.522756, and then throws that onto the end of the string. "The square of 1.234 is 1.522756" is printed, and then main() finishes

Or I'm completely wrong and am misguiding you and suck

Hey Skizz, how do you eat corn on a cob? Side to side, or rotating?

vast nimbus
vast nimbus
charred otter
#

So i dont remember

vast nimbus
#

You don't have some like, drive to eat it one way or another?!

charred otter
#

I

arctic yarrow
#

I grill it, peel it, lather it in butter, then eat it with my hands grabbing on the ends.

vast nimbus
#

With your hands how, though? In rows or spirals up down?

#

The butter and grilling sounds delicious btw

arctic yarrow
#

Doesn't matter.

vast nimbus
#

bruh

arctic yarrow
#

The key to a good corn-on-the-cob is grilling it while it's still in the husk.

#

Keeps the moisture inside.

vast nimbus
#

google "corn algebra analysis", i can't post links

#

basically if you like calculus more, you will eat it in spirals, and if you like algebra more you will eat it in rows (like more = more naturally inclined)

#

and it's not a joke. literally everyone i've ask in math falls under these two if they do either field

arctic yarrow
#

I just don't put any special meaning on eating corn.

vast nimbus
#

but the meaning is in the organization

#

like how you choose to fly under bridges in gta or whatever if you're not just copying a guide

arctic yarrow
#

I just.... fly under bridges in the same way. I don't attach any meaning other than the satisfaction of flying under that bridge.

vast nimbus
#

i agree with you there, just can't find a great analogy on the spot. the pattern in which you do meaningless things sometimes is meaningful. not the thing itself

arctic yarrow
#

Maybe there is a set pattern to it, but I never actively think about it.

#

I never remember it.

vast nimbus
#

i don't eat corn enough to remember either, tbh. i just know what my answer was a long time ago and remember

arctic yarrow
#

My brain automatically marks it as irrelevant.

vast nimbus
#

makes sense

arctic yarrow
#

Now, doing specific patterns for min-max reasons, those are relevant.

#

Hell, I even min-max coding via patterns, using subroutines.

There's a mini displayport on the right side, use that for video output.

#

Use a mini displayport to hdmi adapter.

#

Works much better than a usb 3.0 to hdmi adapter, and frees up one of your two usb ports

#

On top of that, displayport provides audio too, and works with a DP to hdmi adapter.

charred otter
#

I bought a USB to hdmi adapter already

arctic yarrow
#

ouch

charred otter
arctic yarrow
#

Yeah, but you'll be limiting yourself with your usb ports

#

Are you able to try returning it though?

#

I'm not sure about amazon return policy, but places like walmart and best buy have a 15 day return policy iirc.

charred otter
#

Dont need the usb port anyways

arctic yarrow
#

Alright. Well, I don't recommend doing anything like gaming on it, but watching videos should be fine.

charred otter
#

Is to be able to watch youtube on my monitor

arctic yarrow
#

Ok, then you should be good.

@cold elbow This normal? Using Icue for my cooler and the pump is spiking like that

cold elbow
#

There a lot of settings for the pump i guess and it depends on your temperature target

#

One of the settings supposed to be the change in speed delay

#

And i just noticed that the range on that chart is too small so u shouldn't care
On the other hand it might be a lot of speed
