if you see that bar loading, bios is not bricked
idk what's happening there and unfortunately neither do you. so I recommend bringing it to a repair shop
Right it just doesn't answer to f2 or f12
Oooooo
Now it EHINES
Whines
Something has become unseated
What would be causing this issue? Hard drive connection?
ive had that same issue with a loose sata connection
also with it trying to boot off the wrong drive or a flash drive
yeah most of my knowledge is dated back about ten years tbh
might be worth asking cookie if hes on
Ah if your knowledge is 10 it won't help me
My computer is 9 year old

Bruh
What's up with the fan
@dense birch this one you'd know lol
Dude Dude Alienware X51
Just press F2 during that load
I cannot
Well I'm sorry then it's bricked
.
you have to either give it to a repair shop that knows how to handle Dell desktops or Dell itself
There's a saying
I doubt it has a flash button and I doubt it's USB flashable
When you replace everything in your car, is it still the same car?
The ssd, ram and cd drive, and power brick have all been replaced
And yes, when your board's Alienware and you're still using alienware psu it is
The only original parts now are the cpu and board lmao
And case
I think it's working but the fan is now loud and haven't checked
How do I make the fan quiet
Here's my last word here, it's either 1-your keyboard not working on boot 2-your pc is somehow bios bricked
If it's bios bricked you have no choice, it needs the rom to get replaced
There's no other way around it, they have to remove the bios rom, put another one in
Nope
Dang
It's not user replaceable, it has to be soldered
Well that also needs to be replaced
Kekw
the fan? I'd like to check but even if it is working that fan is loud
It.feels clear and spins, but the clicking says otherwise
Figured the fan out
Was looking at the wrong fan.
Ayyyyy
It boots now
Your pc clicking reminds me of this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNTtR6ZpUOo

My windows is broken
Is that the blue screen that I should be expecting or the black one
yes
just like how web browsers do
download windows downloads the latest possible image from microsoft and resets based on that 😉
it's usually a good option to say yes to if you have decent internet
How do I change my phone out of emergency calls only?
48 mins and at 60% completed. Jesus need a faster hard drive
Try turning aeroplane mode off
Or restarting phone
Or make sure service is available on your location
Have you guys seen AMD MI250X?
it's a terrible option my guy
why? :/
clean install is best install
in most cases doesn't make any difference
that option is clean install
the only case that's different is if you have bloatware partitions.
it's not a clean install if it's reinstalling yourself
☝️
also if you choose cloud you're not reinstalling yourself
you're getting the file online, putting it in a temporary partittion, using that to wipe the drive and install the new OS; which is a clean install
which is why you should always have an iso ready
When I install windows I clean the disk using diskpart, and then proceed with the install
which makes a huge difference
yeah I disagree, makes no difference for most computers.
unless you have Dell/HP with crappy recovery partitions that auto install bloat on top
and even then you can go to disk management, remove all of them with that or diskpart, then reset using cloud image.
tbh everyone should clean install for new pc's, they come with so much crap these days it's insane
genius!
How come the i9 11th gen isn't that performing according to google
Like the 11th gen is terrible for gaming but its not
Google doesn't give you benchmarks?
The 11th gen was probably one of the worst generations that ever existed
Anyone know why i can't receive sms messages? I need it to log in to my playstation account
Gotta change it in your sim providers settings
Where's that
What sim you got?
What's the name of your sim card?
If i have an autodesk key do i permanently keep all the software or does it expire?
Where do I check that
What phone you got?
Samsung A12
Then go into settings and find network selection or that
Its bon bon then
What now
So... after installing arch I seem to have become fallen into the trap of ricing my desktop
ok
um 3+61=i8t
facts
Decapped
Claire, it'll perform just fine with solder
im just memeing delidder
I'm dumb
OH FUCK
(Probably what was said after they "decapped" that cpu)
true, it's really dumb deliding the soldered CPU
My cousin wishes he didnt buy prebuilt
The cost saving are big and matter alot on budget
You can easily save enough money to run extra 8gb of ram and 256gb ssd than 128 by building it your self
Or get a better mobo
I think prebuilts are just like a 1st experince one thing
You believe in it until you dont
why should I care if someone buys a prebuilt or not
I mean if you genuinely care about someone you will really advice them not to go down this route
I once travelled to my friend shopped for parts with him and built it together
He did say its was way more fun than just buying it
Also when you learn how to build it it usually gives you a clue of what each part does for first experince users
if someone asks me for an advice, I give them, but thats a one time thing. i mean its none of my business what they do from that point on, even if its my brother for example
Some pre builds are ok.
Social relationship ships = 0
Melon 🥰
Gus ❤️
I cant deny that
I took too many people and built their PCs with them
Its never gets old seeing the smile on their face after the PC posts
I mean if they have no option its fine
But like
If they have the option and they deny it just genuinely try to advise them aganist it
its not cool to fuck up your first time CPU
but its also not cool to waste potential fun and helpful knowledge
We nerds love building computers
It's our hobby and passion
But a lot of people dont really care
They just want to use the device.
yknow this wasnt how I thought before, and it really depends on the persononality of the guy who asks for ur advice, there was this one time that happened to me that I gave an advice to one of my relatives upon buying a motherboard, they bought what I suggested and after a few months the board was broken, and they thought its all my fault
even to this day they scold me for that
yes and no
a normal person wont enjoy building 6 computers a day
but building their first computer , all people said it was fun and they learned stuff along the way

its like
you dont go ride the roller coaster everyday

I bought a prebuilt on newegg and I'm happy
Better than feeding scalpers
Also I checked the price was about right on partpicker
Hold on a sec let me build my current pc prebuilts list
For example your friend that works somewhere asks you for a computer to do a certain task like calls or Photoshop.... They reach out to you because of your knowledge and they trust you to give them a good computer....
They dont want to build one or learn how
They want to do their tasks and that's what they care about the most.
These are all the exact parts in my pc
- a m.2 addon wifi card on the board which is on B560M-A AC
and I paid total 1628USD for them
but if you were to buy the GPU directly from Newegg with a low 3060ti price of 1100$ on the websites, it would have totalled 2000USD (1900 if you don't count windows)
I just fucking wrecked a board by applying voltage in reverse
fuck me
when and where?
who me?
oh hey adapang long time no see
how dare you insult me like that
adapang is like a swear
like
look at that adapang guy
i need help
same
we all need
With what
With what
With what
i want to get rich
Same
i wanna go back to an hour ago and be careful working with the board
What board
Lemme guess, TPM 3.0
@latent drum i am the only cum bender
same
I installed W11 on my Surface tablet that don't support any of the required stuff and it still works flawlessly, you should try it out for yourself. Once you run it, go to Auto Upgrade.
yea I know about the trick, its actually piece a cake to circumvent it all by adding a few reg keys while the installer is about to start.
the thing is im not really willing to move to win11
dunno why, something's pushing me away from it
Ive tried it on VM already, enough's enough
Microsoft is pushing you away from it
whether MS is pushing me away from itself or its the Unix gods pulling me towards themselves
Unix, smelly! macOS is the last certified desktop Unix in big use.
Don't see any reason for upgrading to Windows 11
Well, less ram usage, pretty much most drivers are compatible, sounds are cool and eh, settings ui maybe
believe me, If we're talking about cosmetics and ram usage , KDE is offering much better for free
Did they change a lot in 11 over the past month? The taskbar (powered by Microsoft Edge Webview2™️) and its ram use was annoying in the insider releases
It's better now, Win11 the official release version uses much less ram compared to beta and dev versions
by gods I mean, sir Dennis Ritchie ,Brian Kernighan and Ken Thompson specifically
It's a bit weird though, like I installed it on my laptop and on boot it gives me microsoft teams errors every time, unfixable errors.
i havent ran into any problems on my install, been trying it since this morning
it actually seems to perform better than windows 10 did all around on my potato pc
That's true, but you know what else is true?
A clean windows 10 install on a local account (instead of microsoft account) would perform the same and maybe even better
Nah, did that first
what are your specs
i5 2500, 8gb ddr3 ram, and an rx560
took a bit of fuckery to get it to install but it works
old old hardware
This is crazy to think about. Still have 2 core2duo PCs in the home not replaced yet
better than youd think for gaming tbh, just with some graphical sacrifices like antialiasing
I mean no offense
I've had a similar CPU a 2320 or 2310 I believe
ram limits me more than my cpu atm
With H67 (not sure maybe H61)
Do you play many DX12 or Vulkan games that don't have DX11 support?
back in the day I didn't know much about computers so I just went into a small PC shop (where I come from its different) and asked them for a suggestion and some ideas and bought it
the board didn't last me long, it was like 70% of its original state when I sold it, the capacitors were bloated as well.
You are comparing beta to stable release
But im comparing to windows 10
Yeah Win10's better
Mine doesn't use a lot of ram cus i debloated it
That debloat custom OS is better for sure
Melon I'm having a problem
A lot of that bloat is now integrated into windows 11
The teams that comes with win11 gives me error on every boot, reinstalling it, repairing it, uninstalling it doesn't work
It says incompatible image
Fix things the Windows way
Its probably a Registery issue
I even tried reinstalling windows with reset (cloud)
it says dir/dir/dir/microsoftteams_numnum\webview2loader.dll is either not designed to run on win or contains errors try reinstalling or contact admin
and says the same for bunch of other files in there giving me like 10 errors
I'm gonna try to change to beta build
And windows doesn't like u to do so
Have you used any hypervisors recently? Virtualbox's VRDP streaming has a terrible audio stutter, do you recommend and tweaks or something different on a Debian host?
@jovial tide What did you run your W11 VM on?
You're a moral man, I would have given you a key or two but I know you won't accept
vmware, tried on both linux/windows hosts
yes
Yee it does
License verification, how does it work?
It's all offline, checks, accepts done
Nothing like Adobe's use of 3-4 exes and 2 Windows services, ye?
I like how linus is making a video about using linux and he picked popOS as a start just like me
I hate installing an adobe software
I wasn't a fan of vmware tbh, but i had to use it for the workshop im working in, cuz it has the exact crucial feature i was looking for which virtualbox doesnt have, USB port management
VMWare Workstation is one of the easiest programs to work with in this aspect
It works flawlessly and effortlessly
well yes, actually it does run multiple daemons in the back ground (as kernel modules), but it can be manual
how much does it cost do you know?
Can I completely murder those background daemons and it not affect the program? (and not re-enable itself)
Virtualbox's sound issues are a pain and most Linux-centered hypervisors are entire OSes or don't support RDP. If so, it sounds perfect
I think so
its linux world man, everything's in control
I had sound issues with virtualbox too, specifically running software like guitar pro in the guests gave me huge stuttering on the output, which im not seeing anymore on vmware
Its so inconsistent
when its good, its really good
and then you update to fix one visual issue and it introduces sound issues that don't get fixed for a year, and then that fix brings a different one
@jovial tide wait wait
How do you easily tell which daemons belong to what?
systemctl/service can list them, but is there a quick and easy "this daemon is linked to this package/file" somewhere?
well the names of the services pretty much tell where they belong mostly
besides, the manual of the software names all the modules and services it uses
In the event of malware pretending to be something useful, is there a tool to find the source, install date, and such?
well yes, if ure suspicious about a service/daemon activity, theres plenty of tools available to monitor it, cmds like 'lsof' , 'locate' or softwares like wireshark
If im suspecious abt some unknown service, I google it first of all, then I use the tools to monitor its activity
if ure talking abt vmware, I dont think u should be worried abt it as long as u keep it up to date
pop os is a neat distro, they are doing great abt nvidia drivers on linux specially optimus laptops
pop alright, good for people that are unsure what tools the need to get started gaming on linux
proton is looking decent, havent looked at the statistics in a while
I'd like to interject a moment. What you are referring to as sudo rm -rf --no-preserve-root /* is actually sudo apt install steam, or as I've recently taken to calling it, The Linus Special.
System76 getting negative press direct from Linus himself is... possibly unrecoverable?
It's a shame because this has sent a bunch of people just sending in angry emails too system 76
linus just doesn't like pop os
shame indeed :(
r/apple is wishing for the death of Pop, for some reason
I mean thats linux for you, if you dont reinstall for once youre just lucky
this reinforces the "See? I told you Linux was entirely unusable" crowd that spams steam forums
And r/apple is just dumb even for apple enthusiast :/
Always self learn on em, or just ask at other forum
Its fair criticism, and I'm indifferent to Pop!_OS
but Linus has a HUGE media presence
The way he words things can kill products (not that pop is at risk, but their reputation might be turned to dust with this)
Would be much less a deal if even someone still somewhat-large like Hardware Unboxed or GN or Marques Brownlee did it instead
Honestly speaking yeah, but ill be hard pressed to know any other linux distros with that tight of an integration with nvidia.
but Linus put all the info explaining that it isn't common at the very end of his video, where people are not likely to watch
Watch it, it wont kill pop by a long shot.
But ngl, damn
Mint looks easier to setup than i thought
Lol
the iconic nvidia fuck you
hiiiiiiiii
hello Gaussianer!
anyone got an Idea why BF2042 keeps turning my Shadowplay off? 🤨
Also hot take, garuda is basically ubuntu with arch
like it just turns itself off after 30secs

youre hot :*
you edited the message, now it makes no sense
:)
scrot was dying on me
I post my neofetch too much, I need to stop
i'm just enjoying the arch btw
it will soon be gentoo btw
sprinkle in some bpytop screenshots during your neofetch-posting
dwm, my own custom fork
i3/dwm with obscure anime wallpaper, neofetch, bpytop, and hollywood
your fork... What language is dwm in?
And also your stock trading client open in Firefox
For r/humblebrag material
just one commit because I had to move it all over to a different repo lmao
nearly
yes
its so... sad 😭
I haven't changed it
why? I'll probably revamp it and make it all of that md good shit
I dunno, I guess compared to how heavily used md is on every other repo, it looks a bit barren
the subtitles having dashes under them, code blocks not existing, idk
lmao, that suckless for you
md is not bloat!
that one is true
neofetch... bloat
just make api requests with curl
😄 when people say bloat this comes into my mind
cUrl is in C huh
waiting for someone to start spamming their new, safe Rust fork online
all gui is bloat bro, let's remove everything and go back to dos days
read the raw electronic signals with your eyes
"become one with the system"
Exactly
Chipsets are also a bloat
Remove the USB ports, interact directly with the CPU
Linus Torvalds himself dont use GPU, dont bother with it
Alter your DNA to code arch from scratch in your body
Removes the storage from the equation
Yes
Installing ubuntu
bloat
ubuntu is too hard to install
clicking through the "please give us 100% anonymous telemetry data to feed on" is annoying
lol i'm writing some Nim and... it's fun
proc htmlASCII(text: string): string =

Python at the speed of C
pretty much compiled python
although it gets no where near as much spotlight
Could you explain compilation to me?
compilation in general?
Python is compiled to .pyc bytecode, and then run by the PRE, ye?
Java is compiles to .class bytecode, and then run by the JVM, ye?
All the CLR languages to dotNet runtime stuff, yeah?
Why is Python considered interpreted and Java considered compiled? And why do the CLR languages have their own processes in htop/task manager, but the PRE and JVM take up that spot for those languages?
I get C/C++ being compiled to lower languages
python is not compiled, a pyc is just more of a cache iirc
My Node.js ass is going to sit back and watch
Java isn't technically compilation it's more transpiliation which is going from one lang to another (for example, TypeScript to JavaScript)
compilation is a specific type of of transpiliation where it is converted to machine code
However, Java gets close enough that it can be considered compilation
Python is interpreted (which means executed on the fly), so think of a program that reads a file and every time it see an 'a' it prints 'a' the console. This is an interpreted language we have just created, we read and input and every time we see an instruction we execute the operation that corresponds to that instruction
I'm trying my best but I am sure you could find a more in depth - and better - explanation online, I'm not really a language developer I just work with lower level programming languages so I just know what I need to so that I can get by.
The explanation helps a lot ❤️
Java is transpiled, unless its running on actual Java hardware, and .pyc and compile() are a scam!
yeah compile doesn't actual mean "compile"
you'll see tools online that convert python to a binary files, this isn't compiled python. It's just the python code bundled with a python interpreter in a file. Python can not be compiled
ah yeah, pyinstaller and py2exe stuff
yup
PyPy seems to stand out
Its no Nuitka/IronPython/Jython/Cython/Brython sort of thing, it claims to not transpile to anything else and somehow still be "compiled Python?"
PyPy takes advantage of what is know as JIT, Just in time compilation. Which when a function is called, initially it will be quite slow but it optimises the function (this is usually more beneficial for more computationally intensive functions that work with a lot of math)
numba is a python package that "wraps" functions to do this https://numba.pydata.org/
example of numba I stole this from the numba home page
from numba import jit
import random
@jit(nopython=True)
def monte_carlo_pi(nsamples):
acc = 0
for i in range(nsamples):
x = random.random()
y = random.random()
if (x ** 2 + y ** 2) < 1.0:
acc += 1
return 4.0 * acc / nsamples
ooooooooooh
thanks again
That feeling when you use a subroutine and it shaves off 150 lines of assembly code.
@brave field in your professional opinion.
New pc or buy the shit version of the Xbox to play Forza
$356.96 is the estimated cost of those parts
But Windows is somehow breaking and idk what has to be fixed if windows dies
Idk how much it would cost if Windows breaks kekw
Windows can easily be reinstalled if it's breaking for you. I recommend pulling your product key before you attempt it.
All you need to do is load the correct ISO on a bootable flash drive.
Which is free.
I use jellybean keyfinder to write down windows product keys before reinstalling.
If a physical sticker isn't present.
Ah, in that case.
I mean I've bought it both times
What specs are you running?
What version of windows are you attempting to run?
Windows 10 when I get it up and running again
The part where it's a 9 year old pc and I want to play Forza
I've got a 1060 in it, that's not the issue
But a 2120 is
A little dated
I mean, does it take forever for the OS to boot and programs to run?
I have 16 gb of ram, an ssd and a 1060.
But the board
The board has to be upgraded to put a better cpu on
And that means new ram
Agreed, the RAM too.
If you're dead set on a replacement, I would recommend going for a R5-3600, a b450 or b550 motherboard, and 16gb ddr4 3600 mhz ram.
Or both
That's not a bad build.
But I must ask myself if it would be better just to buy the shitty xbox
Because of availability and cost
Would actually be slightly cheaper than what I recommended.
What kind of xbox do you have?
XB1?
I do not have an xbox
I have never owned an Xbox
I once had a pc to play forza on, but I sold it for $400. Before covid hit
It had a 1080 in it

Ouch
Fucking $1000 card now
@fickle flume u got force arma to run on your gtx?
Well, xbox one is going for $240, while those components are available and going for $380, so it's up to you what you want to go with.
Forza 5
It's actually down from 450
Which is nice. The chip squeeze eased up a bit
Cookie said if I am patient this build should be half cost
yes
Well, in that case, I recommend waiting for now. The game still has a few issues, like AI being stupidly OP on corners.
your screen went completely bluescreen u said?
yes
I just want to play the Bronco and get the Dom toretto award
AI feels OP? Just git gud
Learn to drive fast
I always play on easiest difficulty
No balls
I play games to relax not sweatfest
Fh3 was really fun even on 2nd easiest the ai were tough but felt rewarding to beat. I wasn't absolutely shitting on them
I'm dead serious, on above average and higher, I can take the same corner as the AI at the same speed as them and end up wrecking, meanwhile, they are able to unnaturally turn on a dime.
This error is triggered when a driver tries to write on a read-only segment of your computer's memory.
I could usually win, but it wasn't as if I'd been handed that and could have taken 3rd or so if I'd messed up

Plus, they rubberband up to you just as you're about to get close to the finish line if you've gone way ahead of them.
Yeah I hate rubberbanding.
I mean, they've gotta be hitting 500kph at certain points near the end if you're far ahead.
Nfs heat didn't have it and I loved beating the ai
Is the rubber banding at higher difficulties or at all levels
I haven't played NFS since NFS 3: Hot Pursuit from back in '98.
I might actually still have that CD around.
Melon asked me to do a memory test so
do lor
after my genshin dailies
@pliant lynx so i did the memory diagnostics
but the event viewer cannot find the results
@unreal iron wouldn't go for an Xbox above $50-80 unless it was the Series X really
Mostly being done for one game and you'll still need a semi-working PC afterwards, and already have half the parts, and the storage, and the software? Just doesn't sound great value
Though, with how things are going now, something might happen with prices as the 12400 rolls out
the stupid deals over the past weeks with i7 10700KF's for that same $200 the 10400F currently sits at seem worthwhile
So you say wait for the rollout too?
If you want things immediately, no
but if you can wait, do wait
but note its probably going to be closer to 3-5 months before things change significantly
As long as nothing shits the bucket that's easy
But I wanna get on forza while everyone's plqying it nowwwww
hmm well
If the experience now matters more
go for the easiest option and enjoy yourself!
Pc parts yea?or rent to own an Xbox and return it
returns are never guaranteed so not that second option
Fuck
if you want an xbox for it, can afford it, and will find use out of it, and definitely value the experience of the game being new, sure
maybe you can find some good local deals?
Haha no
I'd rent and return it. The only other xbox game that I will ever ay is halo and that looks like butt
Pc makes more sense but dang that's a lot for one go

"Low price"
And it's in omaha. Ew
at least they have the price in the title
Where are the "console for sale no controllers no cables"
If Craisglist/FB Marketplace forced people to sell at their listing prices you'd probably be able to get 25-30 PS5s for $1
if people are clogging up the low price sort near you
Is Forza not on the Xbox One?
Ps5 750
850
650
There's a series X for 600 rn
This is it
Literally it within 100 miles

$100 above MSRP for a one-use product, meh
remember "I'd rent and return it. The only other xbox game that I will ever ay is halo and that looks like butt"
Yeah let me get "console with no controllers no cables" lmaoo
it DOES look bad this year
let them try
MS and Apple really cant stand the existence of *nix like OS's, but they cant do shit, to me its funny how MS tries to tie itself to opensource realm. but you cant really mix water and oil, can you?
they cant just stop a dynamic community of opensource devs overnight.
MS cares somewhat about bringing the sort of environment to Windows
Apple just does their own thing with their high profit margins, they really only hurt their own customers.
Like claire said, r/apple is just
though. Awful community.
lmao arch broke on me today so I decided to by a HDD (I was using USB's previously) and install sweet old comfy void back on it
luckily I keep my config files in a private github repo
oooh
How did arch break?
Do you also maintain a script in that repo to apply everything?
after an nvidia update, something with initframs
I should...
Hello, world
hello stranger
Im planning to buy a desktop pc in a few months, and I'll make damn sure nvidia is not in my buy list
yeah, im gonna go with an AMD GPU next time
What kind of Hard drive would you add to this build?
If you're reusing your old/current SSD https://pcpartpicker.com/product/mwrYcf/seagate-barracuda-computer-2-tb-35-7200rpm-internal-hard-drive-st2000dm008
If you don't have an SSD, and only a hard drive https://pcpartpicker.com/product/7tCFf7/silicon-power-a60-1-tb-m2-2280-nvme-solid-state-drive-sp001tbp34a60m28
I have that Toshiba ssd but I don't think I can afford a NICE ssd with the way prices have been
What's the life expectancy of an SSD and a HDD
These will fit that mobo?
What's the interface of that toshiba? m.2 or sata?
The one on the right
Yeah, you should be good.
Yup, that's typical for a sata SSD
But the SSD and it is Probably somewhere between 4 and 6 years old
I'd replace it with a nice large HDD but Google says those only last Is 3 to 5 years
Have you rewritten to it a bunch of times? If not, you should still have quite a bit of life in it.
Rewritten how
It's only like 100 gigs or something. It fits windows 10 and 2 games
Like gtav and wot
Or wot and wows
Since I don't push it too hard other than those games that's the only 3 I've put on it kekw
OK, so you haven't deleted and installed a new game that often. You should be golden.
Uhh a couple of times yeah
But not like once a w3ek
But I did put wot and wows on an external drive
Probably more like once every 3 months or something?
Probably
The external is uhhh an ssd I'm pretty sure. It's like a half inch thick
1 terabyte?
I just launch wot and wows off that external
Mathematically, that's like 24 rewrites on the same NAND flash. IIRC most SSDs from 2015ish is rated for 3-5000 rewrites.
It has like some Greek name I think
It's not named toshiba
It's one of the names they own
kioxia?
No
Ocz
Found em lol
Consumer SSD pioneer OCZ Technologies has officially started the process of filing for bankruptcy. In a statement published this afternoon on Marketwatch, the company announced that this past Monday, November 25, its depository accounts were turned over to the control of Hercules Technology Growth Capital due to OCZ's failure to comply with the conditions of a loan from Hercules. Per the loan agreement's terms, OCZ has begun the bankruptcy process—with the goal of dissolution, not restructuring.

Either this drive is older than I thought or I bought a ssd from a dead company
OCZ still made SSDs until the brand was dissolved and all their assets merged with Kioxia.
Is it smaller than your internal SSD?
Larger lol
Ahh, gotcha
The internal is like 500gb
It only holds 2 games in addition to its own OS
Like thas tiny
The externL is like 1 to 3 tb
Probably a sata ssd inside with a sata to usb adapter, or (shudders) a usb controller direclty on the drive.
Or wait, usually a larger external drive is a hard disk drive
not a SSD
Can I have a shop turn that external into an internal?
My Passport is the trusted, portable storage that perfectly complements your on-the-go lifestyle. Dat url
This is it
Yeah, or you can do it yourself. They're usually not too difficult to pull open.
UT what about the connectors
I'm checking it right now to see if it's a USB controller directly, or a SATA to USB adapter inside.
nvm, this HDD has one of those stupid USB logic boards.
Why WD has a hard-on for usb logic boards? I don't know.
But you can't make it internal.
I hear WD is one of the better companies in general but idk what puts them above the others
WD is considered reliable because they're one of the more common brands.
In terms of failure rate however, they're usually average or slightly worse.
Bruh
So I took an exam for assembly language, and one of the questions was to compare R3 to R4 and place a value in R0 depending on if R3 was greater, less than, or equal to R0. Here's the code I typed for that answer:
0101 000 000 1 00000 ;R0 <- 0
1001 100 100 111111 ;R4 <- NOT R4
0001 100 100 1 00001 ;R4 <- R4 + 1
0000 010 000000010 ;BRz x3006
0000 001 000000010 ;BRp x3007
0001 000 000 1 11111 ;R0 <- R0 - 1
1111 0000 0010 0101 ;TRAP x25
0001 000 000 1 00001 ;R0 <- R0 + 1
1111 0000 0010 0101 ;TRAP x25```
Can you guys guess what mistake I made?
Is 0001 000 000 1 00001 rather than some xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx allowed?
Yeah, the assembler doesn't care about spaces on each line.
Here's a hint. Where's R3?
I forgot to add R3 to R4.
Yeah, I kinda feel dumb about it.
Well, good thing all of my exams in this class can be retaken once every week.
Oh, I intend to, but first I'm gonna take a day off to unwind my brain.
I can't get audio from xrdp!
VMWare doesn't seem to have a native remote display like Virtualbox does and recommends you host the rdp session from inside the VM, Virtualbox's has broken audio, xrdp inside the VM doesn't transfer audio, Parsec can't host on Linux!
Wait @arctic yarrow does that mobo have wifi or no
The one int he build I had
I have a bookmark for a wifi card and remember that being an issue
lemme check it again, one sec
@unreal iron That motherboard doesn't have wifi. Make sure you're buying a pcie x1 wifi card or USB adapter.
This is what cookie recommended last time
Intel AX200-based, yes!
What are your thoughts, Bartor? I still need to research newer networking stuff but AX200-based cards are just so, so, so low-priced for dualband and BT and Wifi6
I don't know too much about wifi cards tbh, never really played with them.
Based on the age of that zco and the fact I'm running games off an external hdd, should I get a bigger internal drive or no
I'm the kinda guy who solders two CAT5 cables together so I can connect my desktop in my bedroom.
Can I use Flash SD cards as memory for this pc and call it good
Anything n
To save money ig
You can use SD cards as storage but not memory
Most SD cards are horrendously slow and more expensive than faster options for $/GB
I have a like 128 I'm not using
good delays
throw videos or music and word documents on it, but nothing that needs relatively-fast IO, like a game
I think the Barracuda 2TB is a good fit, since you already have a boot SSD and the 2TB is better $/GB than anything smaller
Been running it for a little more than a year now, hasn't increased my latency.
And that mobo has a slot for that weird wifi card?
I dont have money to be wrong

standard mobo supports standard wifi card, yes
price increased to $40?! Time to find a different model
and
unless you buy from Newegg, you'll have a decent return window, and you'll be convered in the event of some weird software-side incompatibility, don't worry
It has a $22 version
That looks smaller
That motherboard has two standard PCI-E x1 slots, which can be used for wifi cards.
And yes, both of those wifi cards will work.
Ok so final cost is 453
but AX200's aren't worth double the price
I got the 4 year protection plan on the wifi card. There's no way that card will survive 4 years keke
It's $4
Most protection plans are ass.
They often end up fighting you 3 years in, in the event something does happen
I've heard getting really long ones are great for getting free replacements because Amazon always sends out garbage that doesn't live as long as the plan
Well, that's stuff amazon manufactures or contracts out for manufacturing.
AFAIK, MSI doesn't make amazon basics shit.
yeah
micro ATX/mATX
I k ow you said my case is way too bug
though your case you already have determines everything else
Big
oh mb
just gonna look empty inside when you install it all
Micro atx is the 4 slot shit, mid atx is larger
So I can buy a square case that's about the size as the alienware and even that weird wifi card will fit?
Are you using the same case or buying a different one?
If you're gonna be saving money, use your current case.
I have a Full atx to put it in
Yes, provided the case has at least 3 spaces for PCIe slots
your 1060 will likely take up two, the wifi card one
It's overkill but that's what I have lol
Yeah, that should work. The only issue is it will look a little empty, but that's an asthetic issue.
The alternative case is an alienware x51 but that's all form fitted to the Andromeda parts with a sister board
Cookie agrees its an ass setup
use the standard EATX full tower you have
The Andromeda lol
Yeah, dell likes to do proprietary shit for no reason at all.
Looking like this is better than not being usable at all
Lmao
I was thinking I might ask that computer shop if I can trade that sharkoon for a smaller case they have
Maybe. 2011-looking cases aren't really in style, but they could have something worthwhile
Make sure its a real ATX or mATX case though, nothing with a Dell or HP logo on it
Nah they have a bunch of aftermarket cases and stuff
The chip is shipping separately
I'll get EVERYTHING Thursday except the cpu
Cpu listed thrusday all the way to like the 23rd lol
ouchie
oof
that's cute lol

Assuming they can even install it
It’s not that big of a deal anyway, it’s just some new icons
It’s sad really, Microsoft can make their graphics prettier all they want but they can’t hide Windows’s true self
Windows 10.1
windOS 11
seems like i REALLY need to get a better CPU now
i need to set BF2042 to low to keep 60 fps and even then it isnt stable
90% cpu usage with 10% gpu usage
nice
Finally geforcenow is working properly. Bought a 5ghz adapter and not a single problem lol
The "Definitive" Edition
lmao I put in a HDD recently, it seems to be too wide for the tray so its at a 45 degree angle, hope it wont degrade performance
took it out of a pc that had it mounted at a 90 degree angle so should be fine
oxc00007b ERROR GTA5 PLS HELP dm me if u know how to fix
Like if i didnt hate the trilogy already this is fucked up
why people so happy about the defnitive edition
idek HM
graphic enhancement and... ???
its just
playing san andreas was already crap , the gamestory is good but the gameplay is probably the worst to ever exist
the defnitive edition made it even worse
its the andriod version of the game
Indeed
nothing to worry about as long as it is mounted firmly
nope, just slotted it in there couldn't be arsed to screw it in however as I said it doesnt fit meaning that there isnt really any wiggle room for it
@fallow forge When do you plan to look for upgrading?
Intel 12th gen/Ryzen 6000 are pretty soon and 12th can use both DDR4 and DDR5, mayhaps one of those could work well
@cold elbow remember how worried i was about the rattling noise in my pc? I ignored it and it just..stopped
like what the heck
I spent all that time worrying and now it's just gone
Maybe something stuck in a fan? 🤷
No
Bruh how Ryzen 6000 will use ddr5
Intel 12th gen been out for 2 weeks now here
yeah
Skipper is on a 7700k (unless changed recently)
Don't think the 12900k/12700k pricing is worthwhile though
Something like a normal 12600/f might fit well, or if they could make the 12500 have the P and E cores, and not just be the 12400 with 100mhz extra on its boost
Well
They dont
How we know?
The configuration for current and 2 future generation have been leaked
Like a year ago
And the 500 I5 is OEM part
Thats why its weird
gross
didn't you open the front fans?
Found it in a dawid does tech vid
1400$ for 11400f 3060 ti 16gb ram 1tb ssd
Seems like a mad deal
But it only has a 550w psu does that work
550w is alright
I think the i5 10/11 + 3060ti system was raised to $1600 around mid September so this price is much safer, though not MSRP
I mean if we talk MSRP cookie
You can fit 3080 in 1400$ budget
And thats with beefed up motherboard and 750W PSU
MSRP is impossible
Yes
but I still feel a desire to compare to how things would be in an ideal timeline
I remember all the $1100 3070 PCPP lists when it was first announced 😭
Nice
i need a virtual machine which is resource efficient
i have the home ver
i just need something that doesnt consume a lot of resources
optimised vm
VirtualBox?
wait you can install hyper v on home ver of windows?
No don't ever buy those keys
Grey market keys shops are dime a dozen.
If you're going to buy windows at least do it through ms, those keys are dogey at best

virutalbox is probably your best option
But 100$ dont make any sense at all
no piracy or gray market needed at all
Which is why I use the a certain redacted script
bro don't name that!

Virtualbox is plenty usable, doesn't have the nasty background services VMWare has, and isn't tied to the OS like hyper-v is (also hyperv kills using any other virtualization software)
A good thing to note is that windows pro or better have access to windows sandbox, so if you just need a quick vm you don't need anything else
vmware will keep its port forwarding after being closed, yes
Windows Sandbox
I wanted to like it
I expected better from it ngl
it has Windows-10-on-a-5400rpm-hard-drive performance, and editing the config involves editing an undocumented text file
bad look for hyperv since it uses it, but I know that's unfair criticism to hyperv
and it does stupid stuff like disabling windows defender and messing with programs, so you get a different experience from a real Windows install
I expected at least windows xp mode-like configuration
random text file would be somewhat okay if they documented it
but there's 4-5 posts from blogspam sites that have "yeah, you just uhh, copy and paste and some of the text changes stuff... and things"
also it steals 8GB from C:/ and that can't be changed in any way, why
What can I say Windows loves eating storage space
they really marketed it hard, and having an easily-accessible place for testing untrusted apps and getting familiar with VM use could be so nice
Azure uses it where?
o
I don't think Hyper-V is really failed, but everything consumer-facing relating to it feels more annoying than the alternatives
Its probably super good software
Its just also paywalled behind pro and a heavily-marketed project that uses it is garbage and having it enabled in Windows features causes problems in all other virtualization software
even messes with WSL at times
Kinda makes it hard to use
ooooh, interesting
Where does it get Ubuntu from? Direct from Canonical's FTP, some mirror, does Microsoft keep their own build? WSL2 Ubuntu image but with systemd?
unattended install is pretty standard but grabbing install images for you is not, nice
They have other choices somewhere?
Oh
bruh i thought i found a 1660 super for 320 bucks, and it ended up completely changing and being 675 when i looked at it on the website
Freedom currency
and all others are like 800, im telling you the world is going out of its way to try and scam me
the lowest prices are at fucking walmart they really do have everything wtf
749???? WHAt THE FUCK???
no
im just going to buy a 1050ti

lil Oleg 🥺
Click on download and hope the server you're downloading from is fast?
Or cut it to 1hr lengths
🥺
Does ytdl work with Twitch?
It works. Use youtube-dl or ytdl-p
You can specify the quality when you download, and resume partial downloads
but will it work if the video is blocked worldwide due to copyright
Probably not if it's blocked worldwide
But if it's just blocked where you live, you can have yt-dl work through a VPN/Tor
it's my own stream that i can view just fine but it's blocked worldwide so noone other than me can see it so i need to download it in order to remove the blocking song
yep
i have a question.
a teacher of mine asked me if i could look for drones for his new drone course, he told me he wanted atleast 2 like good instructor drones, and a few drones for beginners, his budget is 5k for everything and it needs to have a camera and preferably the ability to attach sensors to it. i was wondering if anyone has experience with drones, and could give me recommendations, i've already looked and found some potential, but if you have a recommendation ill surely look into it.
let's see
How do i make the timer go up by 1 second in scratch? Somehow bugged it
Is there no official way to do this btw? I imagine lots of streamers get a copyright strike now and then
there is but it's 720p30
oh
what ytdlp downloaded is also 720p30

Use the -F flag to see if a 1080p60 stream is there
god bless
erm
your flowchart bugged the timer
Flowchart?
is the timer set in the background?
Basic DJI Drone for 120 bucks?
what is coding
programming
Are threads called logical processors in task manager?
yea ig
Ok thanks, sorry for late reply
wow, elon is looking at you and having a good laugh
If i buy crypto for the set price $100=0.0xx which its real value is yyyy.yy how much do i make?
Hard disagree, there have been plenty of legitimate and helpful uses over the past 10 years
this is an awful time to get into it if trying to use it as an investment, though
0.0015 BTC is just under $97 USD, strangely low fees
You don't make anything yet, and BTC is at its high, you're infinitely more likely to lose money than gain anything
absolutely would not purchase $100 in BTC through moonpay (or any BTC at all)
Only got the crypto app cus I thought it was free OF from a streamers bio dont ask why
get out of there
Oh so once the prices go up then i make money?
Eh back to tryna do paid carries then
Crypto is the official currency for illegal or sketchy acts
With most cryptocurrency transactions being easier to trace than physical cash, whyso?
Outside of Monero

dont compare crypto with a knife its actually a ninja sword
i can blame the ninja sword
for its designed for malicious purposes
I'll tell you one thing, I wouldn't want to buy illegal shit with crypto. My transaction could easily be traced to my wallet, and it would be a simple matter of finding out who owns that wallet.
That's the thing with transactions over the blockchain, that info never goes away.
Fun fact, most cryptocurrency crimes are scams.
Illegal transactions on a network where all your transactions are public and easily traced in a world where you almost always have to sign up for an exchange or conversion service that often requires tax info/SSN or equivalent... right
Not saying it doesn't happen, but the good projects far outnumber the issues caused by the last few people in... Switzerland, the last place where you can really exchange without KYC law
The existence of exchanges ruined crypto for me smh. so much for decentralised anonymous payment. It's essentially an investment good now
@strong saffron same, infuriating
"Its decentralized, you just have to rely on x or y big company and provide enough personal info to open a bank account to use it!"
There are groups still pushing to mandate cryptocurrencies in Western society but all the governments already have complete control
Alright guys, fine, you say what is being done with crypto rn is also being done with physical money too,(or used to be done idk) right?
what about the side effects of crypto on environment and electronic parts prices?
who's the winner of this financial tussle at the end of the day? me or you? hah! i dont think so
side effects on the environment is fair
though bitcoin ASICs alone is some 70%+ of that. Altcoins that suck for investments but have good projects behind them are verified in their own ways, good coins use proof of stake with delegation, and not all proof of work algos are designed to be as difficult as possible
For electronic part prices, there's still little reliable sources behind cryptocurrency being the main issue, with there being 0 sources at all from 2010-2017.
One of the reasons why a lot of cryptos are moving towards proof of stake instead of proof of work.
Power consumption dramatically decreases with proof of stake.
But... you can't traditionally mine it at that point.
well, personally, thats the major reason I never supported crypto since it became a thing, I've not traded or mined a single dollar although i could do that.
the environment is the ship we're all on board, if it sinks we all sink together.
trying to understand a bit better, are you avoiding all cryptocurrencies for environment issues caused by a few?
some because of the env. ,some because I dont like the idea of their existence
BTC power use is horrendous right now, everyone is racing to see what will happen to it when the last 2 million are done being mined, and most of its ASICs are in the 3000W range now. Super fair to be against that.
Well, do some research into Cardano. Not only is it proof of stake (meaning minimal power consumption when "mining" it), but it also supports smart contracts among other things, useful tools from an economic perspective.
There's a few other cryptos like that, but I can't think of it off the top of my head.
Nano, Ripple
Monero and Ethereum are both proof of work and still are immensely less power hungry than any of the SHA-256 currencies
Ethereum is still pretty power hungry though, from personal experience (I'm a dirty single-card miner).
However, it's gonna move to Proof of Stake around Q2 2022
Actually, ETH 2.0 is already here as a sorta "Beta" and it's Proof of stake.
5% APY
I have no faith in ETH truly going proof of stake
They've met every goal announced but proof of stake always gets pushed back every year
Maybe the smart move for me is to mine ETH rn and dump it into ETH 2.0
You could, but it would only really be viable for that general area. Impedance would waste a ton of power if you move it too far away.
Our governments and celebrities can order enough solar panels and wind turbines to power entire small countries in less than 5 minutes but they don't. Manufacturers want profit, buying land sucks, batteries are expensive, and the consumer wants to pinch every penny possible
You'd need a ton of land to pull that off probably
Plus, even when there's plenty of sun and wind, it's still intermittent.
The electrical grid requires a constant source of power.
One of the reasons why politicians should shed their fear of nuclear and allow the construction of more reactors. It's way more environmentally friendly than coal, very power compact, and not intermittent unlike wind and solar.
Hydro wouldn't be a bad thing either.
What about the amount of power? I live < 10 degrees from the equator and solar isn't that popular here apart from residential applications
The whole world really should find a way to adopt solar more
I vote for photovoltaic sidewalks
That's not a bad idea. Much better than using vehicle roads for solar.
Yes, solar and wind can be used for supplemental power, but you need a constant power source to support the grid.
on earth surface? I dont think thats viable(huge amounts of money required) who will risk that amount of money for volatile currency like btc? Satoshi Nakamoto?
but i think it could be viable if they design huge miner satellites who always keep their face towards the sun somehow( no downtime for the batteries)
but this is one is also more resource/money hungry than on earth's surface

Non-residential transportation and industrial uses are a nice 85% of fossil fuel use in the US, for example
As someone who knows nothing about the field, update factory machines and trains, then move to houses and deal with 4000W/hr heating and air conditioning, and then push cars with regenerative braking
I think the plans you're mentioning will eventually happen want it or not, fossil fuels will run out someday and we'll have no other choice. maybe not for another century, but it happens finally.
shouldn't wait for fossil fuels to not exist when we have enough alternatives to power the world 🙁
