Then it might be an intro to quadratic equations then

jovial tide

i honestly have no idea

maybe algebra 1 is just easier now

my teacher was talking about functions and whatnot

ohh

#

i think i know whats going on

yeah that makes sense

God this build's so good

#

Holy mother of god this build is so good 😮

arctic yarrow
jovial tide
#

But good luck finding that 3080 at MSRP, that 1700$ build will cost you at least 700$ more

jovial tide
arctic yarrow
#

Yes

#

The sandisk is connected to an m.2 to sata adapter.

kindred temple
#

Not enough storage

jovial tide
#

CPU was great at the time, but now it's not the best. cooler + ram + board are great (even overkill for ram), storage no comment, graphics card 2070 super good but not great (I would have never bought first gen RTX cards), power supply great, case outdated design nobody uses disc drives anymore.

arctic yarrow
#

I still use a disk drive 😛

jovial tide
kindred temple
#

No joke

jovial tide
#

he has like 8TB storage

kindred temple
#

I wouldnt go and get an upgrade for the CPU, i would consolidate the storage.

jovial tide
#

At that point just get a NAS

arctic yarrow
#

I mainly use it for watching movies and playing older games I still have on a CD or DVD.

kindred temple
#

Thats straight up just janktacular.

arctic yarrow
#

At least I never need to uninstall any of my games 😛

#

Yeah, the storage is a bit much TBF. I'd probably pull all but one drive if I sell this PC to build another one.

jovial tide
#

Idk man having 8TB of games feels like hoarding junk

kindred temple
#

You never modded Arma 3 or Asetto corsa then, arash

jovial tide

You can build a computer selling those drives KEKW

arctic yarrow

I have 3 1tb ssds and a 6tb hdd

jovial tide

holy crap

where are you getting this storage

arctic yarrow

the ssds have the games on them, the hdd has plex backups, nvidia shadowplay dumps, and a shitton of isos.

brave field
#

Brand new drives? Used datacenter drives?

#

how

jovial tide
#

there used to be a time when people would get fired from game making if they used more than expected resources.

brave field
#

I'm getting to the point where I'm considering buying a server just to have a SAS controller so I can scoop up those stupid cheap $20 6TB drives on ebay

jovial tide
#

and now, oh yeah, let's use 400GB... it's just stupid man

arctic yarrow
# brave field Brand new drives? Used datacenter drives?

I bought two of the SSDs when initially building the PC. Got a third one by ripping open an ESSD from costo purchased from a gift card I obtained from work for xmas, and the 6tb drive I got from one of my friends who salvaged old datacenter servers. got that one for $50

brave field
#

Whole server hardware is cheaper than a SATA drive, where are you getting the deals

#

o, good friends!

jovial tide
#

Good idea, make an internal SAN

kindred temple
#

Used drives 🤮

brave field
#

Usually I would agree

#

But they're replacing 80-320gb drives that still have IDE connectors on them

#

And hard drive prices stopped falling, and I can't work anymore Sadge

kindred temple
#

20$ drives are cool but not having to risk my GPA from scratched platter is cooler.

sale for $300 for 2TB

#

@cold elbow

civic cloud
#

300 for 2TB?!

#

Is that Gen 4

cold elbow
#

how is that a sale

#

it's a gen 4

#

if you need an SSD that's a very good one

#

even for a PS5

brave field
#

$450 MSRP haHAA
There are very few workloads that would benefit from this though

cold elbow
#

u see the ps5 requires like 5500MB/s NVMe ssds

#

this one is 7000

#

with a good price imo

#

so it should set you up for the future

brave field
#

Makes sense for ps5 if its solely for that, yeah
I think I'd check local 980 Pro prices before pulling the trigger, SN850 at $300 is very close to 2TB 980 Pro MSRP

cold elbow
#

massive speed drop

#

wait

brave field
#

They both target 7000MB/s

cold elbow
#

that's the regular

brave field

write speeds, maybe?

cold elbow
#

my bad

#

and yeah the WD has slightly better write

brave field

potentially 300MB/s more for write on the SN850

#

hm

cold elbow

i guess it depends on what he can find cheaper

sour marsh

sour marsh

@brave field $500 for the Samsung Evo Pro

Not worth if that's the 980 Pro

#

SN850 for $300 is better value, unless its being used in a PC

sour marsh
#

I guess based on the chart, Crucial P5 Plus offers 6600MB/s

and also $367

more expensive and potentially slower, nah

Help

iron lantern
#

eh... WD... dont like them

fervent granite
#

I thought wd drives were common

iron lantern
#

they arent trustyworthy

#

especially their SSDs

fervent granite
#

Untrustworthy like unreliable?

iron lantern
#

They swap their components without ever making public announcements

#

so they market their SSDs at such and such rating but in reality are way below

fervent granite
#

Good thing I have a seagate drive peepohappy

iron lantern
#

seagate ssd? or hdd?

fervent granite
#

hdd

#

It's an external desktop drive for my laptop I use for time machine/data

brave field
#

swapping components without announcing is the standard though

#

Crucial, Samsung, ADATA, who doesn't?

#

Just Sabrent and SiliconPower, no?

iron lantern
#

should i get a 870 evo or a 870 qvo

brave field
#

evo, depending on the price compared to its largest comptitors

#

QVO combines Samsung prices with QLC suckiness

iron lantern
#

yikes, evo is beyond my budget unfortunately

#

guess i getting two 870 evo 1tb

#

what about crucial mx500

brave field
#

L5 Lite 3D, MX500 (beware the firmware bug), SPA55

#

The MX500 firmware bug causes higher writes than expected and tools like CrystalDiskInfo or GSmartControl often report crazy drops in drive health, like 95% health after 6 months of use

iron lantern
#

yikes

#

so about m.2 ssds

#

which samsung m.2 should i get

#

the 980 pro, 980, 970 evo plus?

#

wait

#

980 isnt gen 4

brave field
#

970 plus is gen3 also

iron lantern
#

im generally looking for a m.2 ssd

#

just a good write speed for a good price

#

is the corsair mp600 a good choice?

brave field
#

Silicon Power A60, A80, Sabrent Rocket, etc

#

which mp600?

iron lantern
#

just the mp600

brave field
#

Pro, core, force, they have a few

iron lantern
#

force

#

isnt samsung expensive

#

for a gen 4

brave field
#

Samsung everything is overpriced, but the 980 Pro's price isn't as bad as their other SSDs, compared to the main alternatives

cold elbow
#

500$

brave field
#

$100 less than double the price, so its a small, but existent improvement over the 860 when it was new

iron lantern
#

idk, corsair mp600 force is tempting

#

gen 4 for godspeed r/w

#

and decently priced

brave field
#

5k read and write, it looks nice

iron lantern
iron lantern
#

its just the cherry on the shit hole

brave field
#

how much faster do you think random read speeds will get in the next few years?

iron lantern
#

affordable? barely unless Ubisoft or activision breaks the record with a 200 gb game

fervent granite
#

If only we could get ram speeds

brave field
#

still salty about hardware ramdrives being dead

fervent granite
#

Wait they aren’t a thing anymore?

brave field
#

So much DDR/2 is sitting in landfills right now

fervent granite
#

Usb ram wen

brave field
#

it would be so nice

#

we can get something like 2GB/s out of one single PCIe lane now

#

just hooking up some DDR2 and a battery to a thunderbolt/USB-C connector could make for some bulky, but fast storage on the cheap

fervent granite
#

Would need to be mindful of that battery though

brave field
#

As long as you had something that could compress files super well and super quickly, and the battery was rechargeable and had an indicator for charge (maybe an 18650?), you could stuff a bucketload of things on it and have very fast transfers

#

or live USB environments where you don't load to load the whole OS into ram

#

NVMe drive speeds, sub-NVMe drive latency, low capacity, but super, super low price

fervent granite
#

I’d probably only keep the os on such a drive, wouldn’t want important files being thanos snapped should the battery die

#

If they could make one with a betavoltaic battery THEN I’d be sold

brave field
#

could throw some cheap, slow 16gb of SD card NAND on the board for a persistence partition

#

nuclear battery WeirdChamp

fervent granite
#

Would last you pretty long pepeLaughYou

brave field
#

I suppose the market of people who want to move 32-64gb of files in under 5 seconds is pretty small
tiny capacity and fast speed, seems more people want it the other way around

fervent granite
#

That should be the future though imo

#

We already have really fast, relatively mainstream ssd’s so that should be the next step

arctic yarrow
iron lantern

jovial tide

tame current
#

What's the difference between 3200mhz and 3600mhz in RAM cards?

jovial tide
#

For intel CPUs not much, for AMD up to 10% performance difference
Ram timings also matter, usually people buy dual channel 3200 or 3600MHz C16

tame current
#

Oh

#

For intel cpu, I'll be fine with just 3200 mhz?

#

Or should I still go with 3600mhz?

jovial tide
#

which one you wanna buy?

tame current
#

I'm still looking for 3600mhz and I have intel cpu

jovial tide
#

what are your specs? and how much ram?

tame current
#

32gb ram and I'm still at the assembly page

#

But the CPU will be i9-10850k and GPU will be RTX 3070Ti

jovial tide
tame current
#

I'm buying 2x16 though

#

Oh, nice

jovial tide
#

second

tame current
#

I found those in an online shop, cheaper than many retailers sell their ram cards too

jovial tide
jovial tide
#

all of these are fine. lower the C the better

C14 is best -- last one is also close to C14

tame current
#

This is what I found though

#

Are you in US/UK/Canada?

tame current

No I'm not

#

And this is the one available in the online shop I found

jovial tide
#

what else do you have available there? this I dont like

tame current
#

Why?

jovial tide
#

timings too high

#

you can also give me the link of the shop so I can find something for you there

tame current
#

What do you mean?

jovial tide
#

but it's made for AMD (better buy AMD 5600x or 5800x wiith it)

tame current
#

Oh

#

Those are lower than AMD RX6800, right?

tame current
#

The problem is PC shops recommend RTX 3070 over RX 6800 in flight sim

#

Because RX 6800 heats up more

jovial tide
#

so you're in PH right?

tame current
#

Sadly, yes

jovial tide
#

Why sadly? some of the best esports teams in the world are in there

tame current

it's usually more than 9500

I personally prefer AMD build with that Trident Z ram made for AMD

tame current

Nice, thanks

#

And is it just me or RGB parts are just for cosmetics?

#

They are just for cosmetics. but rams are different.

cold elbow

I will

jovial tide

dont buy it it's crap

tame current
#

Oh good

#

Good thing I didn't buy it yet

#

The last shop I consulted with put a tforce delta rgb 3200mhz 2x16gb in the price quotation

#

Which is more expensive than the once I've seen

jovial tide
#

this + a 5600x CPU

#

buy these first, then look for MSI B550-A Pro

cold elbow
#

32gb weirdchamp

jovial tide
#

Horrible shop website. writes c16 description, but has c18 in the title

tame current
#

Oh, you're right

#

And looks like many PC shops are corrupted

jovial tide
#

That's why you wanna buy slowly, and one by one, so they don't push their shit to you.

tame current
#

What do you think about the tforce delta rgb 3200mhz 2x16gb?

jovial tide
#

That being said I'll stand by my cpu: amd 5600x motherboard: msi b550-a pro ram: trident z neo (for amd) 3600MHz C16 suggestion

#

3200MHz C16 is still fine but you have to be careful so they give you the C16 and not C18

tame current
#

Alright

tame current
#

I think so, I'm unfamiliar with that

jovial tide
#

acceptable (it's tforce delta 3200mhz)

tame current
#

Oh

#

This one's cheaper than that shop which gave me the recommendation

#

We were taught that when buying PC parts, we should always negotiate for lower price as much as we can

#

Like for example, if we're gonna buy an RX 6800, we must negotiate if we can get it at lower price

jovial tide
#

that's not a bad idea, but the thing is you negotiate and they sell you a crappy brand instead of real deal.

#

it's still 6800xt but not the same 🙂

#

so it's better to go and buy parts slowly, one by one so they can't scam you.

tame current
#

I mean, if it's same brand

jovial tide
#

there are still different types of cards under same brand

tame current
#

Oooh

jovial tide
#

Like for AMD graphics cards best brand is Sapphire

tame current
#

And for Nvidia?

jovial tide
#

EVGA in my opinion

tame current
#

Oh

#

The problem with PC shops here is if we don't negotiate, they'll jack the prices up

jovial tide
#

I know, you should find the lowest prices online then negotiate to get less.

tame current
#

And of course, GPU remains the biggest obstacle

jovial tide
#

I'm sure you can find one

#

Sapphire nitro+ 6800xt or 6800 are good

#

Or MSI/Asus/EVGA 3070 or 3070ti

tame current
#

I found some but the price is excessive

#

The lowest one I found for 3070Ti is said to be preorder

#

I'm cautious because they might close down after I pay for preorder

#

The brand for that 3070ti is Gigabyte

jovial tide
#

have you checked nvidia website?

tame current
#

Oh, these are really low prices

jovial tide
#

yeah you can check those and see if any shops in your country have them

jovial tide
#

that's en-us

tame current
#

Sad...

jovial tide
#

you have to pay for shipping from US to PH

tame current
#

Ph still have jacked up prices

jovial tide
#

this last 6700xt is ok I think, powercolor is like sapphire

tame current
#

Oh, I forgot

#

What are the advantages of these limited editions of GPUs such as RTX 3070 Gundam Edition?

#

Someone said that these "limited editions" or "special editions" are scams just to make people pay high prices and if we really want to spend money on GPUs, we're better off buying the next higher level GPU than special edition GPUs

cold elbow
#

Just marketing gimmicks

tame current
#

Same performance at a lot higher prices

civic cloud
#

Yeah it's marketing

jovial tide
#

Ofc it is

tame current
#

If I'm left with RTX 3070 special edition and RTX 3080, I'll just go with the 3080 because it'll only be a little more expensive than the 3070 special edition while having more to offer

tame current
#

Oh wait, ddr5 ram is already out

cold elbow
#

Companies flipped all kinds of special/limited editions during this shortage to make more profit

tame current
#

The problem is no current CPU are made to support it

cold elbow
#

They would rather make them than regular gpus with msrp

#

Ddr5 is already out and over 1 year old. Are you guys gonna buy it if you're gonna build new PC or still ddr4?

#

The problem is current Ryzen and Intel CPUs still stick with ddr4

jovial tide
#

who cares? unless you are part of pc master race trying to get highest performance on earth; who really cares?

#

"oh look I have a 240Hz monitor with 260 average fps, that's not enough let's make it 300-350"

#

unless you're heavily using it to compute. who really cares?

arctic yarrow
#

When do y'all think ATX12VO will become standardized?

iron lantern
#

I doubt we will see ddr5 being widely available until roughly 2025+ even 2027

#

AMD and Intel are too busy fighting each other for the best performance for the market to worry about moving to ddr5

arctic yarrow
tame current
#

Good point...

#

Well, I haven't seen issues with ddr5 but it could happen anytime

#

Since approximately 1 year and 2 months are still new

iron lantern
#

plus the average household and games havent reached a point where ddr5 poses significant benefits over ddr4

kindred temple
#

Even 12th gen Intel was considered for 12VO conversion before basically every AIB flips a bird to intel for that idea.

iron lantern
#

If they have ddr5 support, their prices might easily go beyond 600 bucks

kindred temple
#

Welllllll

#

DDR4 was 120$ for 2*4 set

#

Economics of scale will prevail.

iron lantern
#

and reality is, the current gen saw so much improvements since the last in both terms of CPUs and GPUs that creating an entire new line of products especially during a world wide shortage of resources is extremely inconsiderate

#

even if this new gen gets ddr5 support, most people wouldn't spend the extra money

tame current
iron lantern
#

the market drives the economy

#

if people dont want to spend extra for ddr5, nobody will buy the new gen

#

even if the performance is so much better

arctic yarrow
iron lantern
#

until games start actually utilizing these high end gpus and cpus to its limits at 1080p or 2k, nobody has a need for ddr5 products

arctic yarrow
#

True, but hardware is usually manufactured before there is any need for its utilization, and developers take note of what resources are available at present time to create their software.

iron lantern
kindred temple
#

Meanwhile most CPU experts agree that DDR4 standard is bottlenecking the bigass cache that CPU nowadays ship with

tame current
#

What attracted me for ddr5 is they say that ddr5 will be faster while having less electric consumption

arctic yarrow
kindred temple
#

Also, reliable?

#

This mf didnt see 1000&2000 series release?

arctic yarrow
#

Ryzen 1000 and 2000 series had some pretty serious flaws. It wasn't until ryzen 3000 series released that most of those flaws were worked out.

kindred temple
#

GloFo 14nm is hot unreliable garbage, the only shit that saved it from FX level failure was because of Intel taking a deep nap in innovation

iron lantern
#

thats the point, the 5000 series greatly saw a change in monopoly of Intel cpus

arctic yarrow
#

Intel is grasping at straws right now trying to make 14nm+++++++∞ relevant until they figure out how to innovate again.

tame current
#

I guess current gen CPUs like Intel 10th and 11th gen and Ryzen 3000 and 5000 series will still be relevant for a long time.

kindred temple
#

12th already slated for 10nm i believe, 14nm meme is ded

tame current
arctic yarrow
#

Good, it's about time both chipmakers compete against each other in a meaningful way.

#

Hopefully AMD hasn't become too comfortable being top dog.

jovial tide
#

@tame current that's not true at all

tame current
#

I like AMD Ryzen CPU but for GPU, I'm still doubtful.

jovial tide
#

These days a CPU will last you 3-5 years, back in the day (first gens of core i series and before) every 1-2 years computers changed drastically

kindred temple
#

They already are.

iron lantern
arctic yarrow
jovial tide
#

I'm pretty sure you can use a 5600x+ a good motherboard for about 5 years (with good care)

iron lantern
#

if we are to spend extra money for extra innovation, im fine

kindred temple
#

I think that isnt over, because Zen 3 and Zen 4 gonna receive 5 and 3nm respectively

#

It was in one of AMD press release.

jovial tide
iron lantern
#

if intel wish to do the same, i respect that and if they give better performance, i might switch to intel

jovial tide
#

chips become less and less stable when transistors come closer

kindred temple
#

Seeing AMD and TSMC trajectory? Very.

arctic yarrow
#

I'm curious what will happen once both AMD and Intel hits the quantum limit.

iron lantern
#

but as current benchmarks stand, AMD prices grow along side its performance

jovial tide
#

they will start to push features

#

same thing nvidia did; oh we're at the top of the curve? raytracing

arctic yarrow
kindred temple
#

Nvidia isnt even on TSMC cutting edge line though, isnt it still 12nm?

#

Oh, 7.

#

Nvm

iron lantern
#

raytracing is like...

kindred temple
#

Fuck raytracing, gimme DLSS

iron lantern
#

kindred temple
#

Actual innovation there

arctic yarrow
jovial tide
#

Intel's gonna have some weird features soon mark my words

#

This CPU will tickle your motherboard, they will say

kindred temple
#

I mean, is timed boost when your competitor is already thermal based a weird feature?

#

Asking for a friend.

arctic yarrow
#

Basically an opaque reflection.

#

I'm interested in knowing if ARM processors will start being supported by game devs.

civic cloud

Got an (admittedly stupid) question. Can enabling UEFI in the bios fix boot issues with windows 10 on a c2q desktop?

jovial tide
#

What is C2Q?

#

That question aside, on a modern computer you want to use UEFI + GPT + secure boot; just enabling UEFI won't do much if you have your hard disk set to MBR.

arctic yarrow
jovial tide
#

If the motherboard supports UEFI, you should do a uefi+gpt+ntfs installation if possible.

#

If the drive is using MBR you will need to format the whole thing and convert it to GPT for this to work + you need a UEFI windows usb drive.

arctic yarrow
#

Yeah, been having an issue with my father's PC lately where it sometimes doesn't recognize the boot drive. It was forcibly upgraded to windows 10 from 7 when M$ was pulling that shit

#

I went into the bios and found UEFI was not enabled.

special offer western digital sn550 1tb as primary
secondary seagate barracuda 1-2tb your choice
operating system none
internet security none
wifi Tenda (if you need wifi)

#

the motherboard doesn't have two places for SSD so the secondary drive is usually hdd

jagged lark
#

Ooh so does primary storage mean an m.2 or ssd and secondary means the one outside your motherboard?

jovial tide
#

So usually yes, you wanna put a m.2 nvme ssd on the motherboard, and a hard disk in the case.

#

You can get 2.5 inch or 3.5 inch SSDs which are not M.2 and do the same, the price will be much higher

#

But yeah, I'll highly recommend the one on the amazon list. that has better parts all around compared to these pre/custom builts. and if you feel like you're running out of space, you can always order a hdd/sata ssd later on.

jagged lark
#

But then if i wanna add a graphics card later on will i be able to?

#

And the monitor is definitely not worth it. £135 for 75hz

Laptops are ass to be reviewed because you dont have every laptop on earth

cold elbow
#

that's another reason

#

like do u know why people buy cheap gaming laptops?

#

he wants it to have very solid build quality with no flex

Because lets be 100, most desktop replacement use case scenarios are BYOD office worker and disowned children.

cold elbow
#

most people asking for that kind just want a good computer that run their game and does not overheat

they will use mouse and headset anyways

comparing a cheap gaming laptop to a dell XPS 4Head

can someone help me. i played gta and then my monitor turned much whiter and darker pls help me. he dont got so much colours now

brave field
#

Playing the game shouldn't cause anything like that. Restart the system its connected to and power cycle the monitor. If it persists after a restart, narrow down if its the monitor that decided to act weird or if the game changes some Windows color setting by checking the colors in your UEFI or connecting something different to the monitor

#

If its the latter, Windows' display settings menu displays options to revert any changes made to color

sinful tapir
#

Whats a power cycle ?

brave field
#

turn it off, unplug from the wall and anything else that's getting electricity, wait 10 seconds, hold the power button for a bit, wait 10 more, and plug everything back in

#

being closed source really sucks for this

#

but unlike with OpenRGB, the SignalRGB people have money

lost fossil
#

don't tell me they're mining bitcoin on the LED controllers inside the light strips

#

i tried openrgb on 2 of my computers that have rgb capabilities and unfortunately it didn't work very well

brave field
#

such a small team taking on a large task 😦

#

SignalRGB having its whole account system and a paid requirement to use half its features is so wack

#

and then they don't provide an SDK and bindings to contribute a lightscript for certain software

cold elbow
#

Im in their server and tried their software

#

They're very slow when it comes to adding devices but quick on adding games add-ons

#

Submitted to add my board like 2 months ago

jovial tide
#

Well if it works for everything it's worth it

cold elbow
#

If it works

#

Because then you will only need one software

jovial tide
#

Yeah, and it won't try to control everything else

cold elbow
#

Currently it only supports my ram and mouse weirdchamp

jovial tide
#

You install a NZXT cam software and it'll try to consume your soul

cold elbow
jovial tide
#

I've seen people GPU throttling just because of software like that; once a guy was clock limited because of those programs.

#

Well in your case, it'll try to blow the soul into you

cold elbow
#

I remember my old 1060 strix had oc that can only be enabled by their OC software

#

And fans headers as well

#

And guess what

#

That oc profile that they heavily advertise only gives you like 10+ on the core

jovial tide
#

hahahaha Nvidia Geforce Experience overlay auto tuning gives you more than that

my 1080 ti often gets stuck at 200mhz core after boot so i have to fiddle with afterburner for a minute to get it up to spec again

cold elbow
#

U probably fkd up somewhere

#

DDU might fix it

lost fossil
#

i've ddu'd this particular windows at least 10 times

#

doesn't bother me too much anyway bc that 1080ti is a silicon lottery winner apparently

jovial tide
#

the problem too many programs try to "automatically control" hardware resources, then it becomes a dilemma.

cold elbow
#

It's not easy to find that one software that left some garbage that mess with the gpu

#

Even if u remove them

jovial tide
#

Well Ms. Melon, I've helped people (lots of people) in gta-tech-support

#

it always worked.

random Steam indie game leaves set_gpu_idle.exe in your startup folder on uninstall

kinda cba tbh feelsgigacringeman maybe when i eventually do a clean install on this ssd that i bought almost 2 months ago...

#

this installation is almost 3yo

jovial tide
#

oh wow. that's a problem.

brave field
#

software is toxic

#

Things are messed up when a 3 year old install is considered problematic

jovial tide
#

Oleg, I think you should be able to install OS on that, remove the boot and recovery partitions on this one then convert current primary drive to a nomral one instead of bootable
