vapid basin
#

but can your pc run valorant on 250+ fps 😈

vapid basin
jovial tide
#

how does it measure game latency?

vapid basin
#

it’s a built in feature within the game @jovial tide

#

but they have so many of these features that the game glitches and everytime you restart you gotta activate it

jovial tide
#

developers get bored xD

#

yeah anyways conclusion a good vpn like Nord has openvpn and you can even get speed gain from it if your isp throttles you

#

and worst case scenario using pptp you won't notice any speed loss

vapid basin
#

I see

jovial tide
#

I got a question guys

kindred temple
#

Ask ahead

cold elbow
#

She probably forgot

jovial tide
#

So I have a monitor ready for if I get the PC, but it's like £115 so the monitor and PC would cost £630 (I will send the link to the monitor in a second), do you think there would be a cheaper alternative which was roughly the same

cold elbow
#

A monitor is a huge part of the experience

#

And it's probably the part that u won't upgrade for years

jovial tide
cold elbow
#

Looks fine and pretty

#

Especially when it comes with display port

jovial tide
#

Okayy, I was only thinking that if there was a cheaper my parents would be more likely to say yes but it would probably only be like £15 cheaper tbh

cold elbow
#

Was it the dell one?

jovial tide
#

AOC

cold elbow
#

Give me the link

jovial tide
#

I haven't looked for any cheaper or whatever

#

I've just found one so lemme show

cold elbow

It should be ips and comes with display port

Yup No display port

what does a SD card do?

#

i need a SD Card 64 GB Class 10 for school but idk what it does

kindred temple
#

Secure Digital, officially abbreviated as SD, is a proprietary non-volatile memory card format developed by the SD Association (SDA) for use in portable devices.
The standard was introduced in August 1999 by joint efforts between SanDisk, Panasonic (Matsushita) and Toshiba as an improvement over MultiMediaCards (MMCs), and has become the industr...

@kindred temple

think of it like its a USB

Ask your teacher why they specifically want SD cards, as a flash drive is far more practical, and have a better read and write speed consistency.

ahhh i know it already i think

its for cameras isnt it?

cant i do it with a card?

kindred temple
#

Depends on what year

#

2012 and below i think still uses SATA/SAS port and the HDD should be swappable, but you gonna need to make a bootable drive to boot

And MacOS bootables are hard to make

At least mac os isn't filled with bloatware

analog wharf
#

ehh i guess i can agree that windows is filled with pre installed bloatware that you don't really need

cold elbow
#

And telemetry

analog wharf
#

it just sucks that its apple so of course they tend to keep things simple ruining alot of customisation etc

#

i would consider customisation a huge part and imo it's better than iphone customisation for sure since well its still a pc/laptop they generally have better customisation than phones but mac isn't nowhere near windows or hell linux that has alot of customisation

latent drum
vapid basin

nah lmao got me fucked up, them bitches expensive

brave field
#

@river lantern I am!

#

macOS is very full of bloatware

#

the .dmg installer/ISO when converted is 20gb compressed

fervent granite
#

What makes it limiting is the fact that software devs don't like releasing for macos which might limit what you can do, that's not to say the os is bad

#

But yeah macos isn't exactly made to be customisable, they really do try to keep things uniform in terms of design which isn't a bad thing imo

upbeat hill

Is anyone here a hacker I want to interview you

its almost like Apple is intentionally handicapping it though

brave field
#

@fervent graniteThe state of it all is just so sad

rugged pelican
#

What will it do

#

Im so scared to try that

#

Lol

brave field
#

Apple kills off any software support not from Adobe, Linux can't get it because Canonical vs purists vs the distros that are weird for the sake of being weird, Free/OpenBSD won't be getting it because the user experience is terrible both pre- and post-desktop without some large company's help, etc.

jovial tide
rugged pelican
#

Ok o did iy

fervent granite
brave field
#

For macOS?

#

Its part of the main reason macOS has very little software

rugged pelican
#

I dont have a apple

#

Windows 10 lenovo

fervent granite
#

Just fell like that move was a disincentive for developing software on that platform

rugged pelican
#

Also recently my pc has been slowing down

brave field
#

Guys, lets use x86->Nope, let's use PowerPC-> nope, x86 again-> hey, let's discontinue OpenGL support-> hey, lets drop support for 32bit-> hey, let's block Vulkan apps and all DirectX translation layers->hey, lets start using ARM

#

Unless you're Adobe (who is being paid to port their software every two years), its a nightmare making any native apps for macOS

rugged pelican
#

I have a 64 bit

fervent granite
#

Eh I mean rosetta 2 is pretty good as is so arm wouldn't be an issue imo, we just got to get people onboard period

rugged pelican
#

Nothing happened

brave field
#

You pretty much HAVE to write Electron or Java apps if you want things to work on macOS for more than 8 months

rugged pelican
#

After holding delete after power on

brave field
#

macOS used to have quite a few developers on board

rugged pelican
brave field
#

A huge selection of games from 2005 to 2011 had macOS releases

#

You'd think it was as popular as Windows from how many there were

jovial tide
brave field
#

None of them run today

fervent granite
#

Partly why I still run mojave Sadge

#

Just in case I run into a gem

brave field
#

Native Linux apps would be nice, with WSL2 having desktop GUI support now, and most BSD-based OSes like macOS getting ports of the big programs

#

but then you have to support Wayland vs x, SystemD vs openrc vs init vs whatever Torvald's biggest fan wrote last yea rand documented only in Russian

brave field

Some sorts of troubleshooting are just easier in person, and nobody is in the right or the wrong for those situations

jovial tide
#

it's enjoyable discussing and helping people who are passionate about computers

#

but when someone asks for help over and over and over online, you try to help; they don't give you info (not private info, just regular info) and blame you for not :"being able to help" them. it just sucks

silent mason
#

Welcome to tech support in general

brave field
#

Its normal to be frustrated, but its also a relatively-normal situation

jovial tide
#

this is what when they say something like personal. I usually say I understand your concerns and agree with them please call someone to help you in person.

#

It's actually really good in most cases; nobody imo should accept a random person's help on the internet. and nobody should ask for help from them.

#

if you don't know much it's 100% a valid concern

#

but if the problem is much simpler like how do I reset my windows and install all drivers? or msi dragon center sucks what do I do? well story's different

silent mason
#

Wonder when thrustmaster are gonna announce their yoke

Same things can be coded in c++

silent mason

Yes well the bot developers aren't going to up and everything and redo it in C#

Anyone used geforce now?

#

And can it play games on shitty laptops

jovial tide
#

if you connect to internet using Wifi 5GHz or ethernet cable and speed is more than 50Mbps it;s a great experience

#

You can basically open your last version of chrome and play on it, it's that simple.

#

Paid versions have better performance and RTX enabled

jagged lark
#

Since there’s a free trial can i try and game or am I limited to certain games?

jovial tide
#

There's actually free subscription for it my friend

jagged lark

I’ll definitely buy the paid version if i enjoy it

jovial tide

Less quality + have to stay in que to start the game + 1 hour sessions max

everything else is the same

Give it a try it's really interesting

jagged lark
#

Gotta find my laptop and mouse first lol

jovial tide
#

side note: some companies don't let cloud streaming providers like geforce now to put their games on them. but many games are still on there.

jagged lark
#

Might be a better subscription than ps now but better

jovial tide
#

also you have to own the games on steam/epic to play them on Geforce Now

#

You don't get any games for free with it, it gives you hardware

jagged lark
#

Well there goes my hopes of trying it

jovial tide
#

do you have any steam/epic games?

jagged lark

Lol none

jovial tide
#

there are still free games you can try on there

jagged lark

That’s why i was hoping to try it out, thinking its like ps now where you can stream a game without buying it

jovial tide
#

you could technically also get a friend's steam/epic id and try it out with him

jagged lark
#

Guess i’ll stick to console till i have enough for a proper gaming pc

jovial tide
#

ummm

#

try destiny 2 on it 😉

jagged lark
#

I could ask one of the 50 in my discord but they all seem like console players none pc

#

Free right?

jovial tide
#

Destiny 2 is free on steam

#

And a very very good game to test

#

let me double check

jagged lark
#

Do i need to have it installed or simply in my library?

jovial tide
#

So this is how it works

#

You install the geforce now application on that laptop

#

(you can also use chrome itself)

#

step 2 you make a geforce account and subscribe to free version inside of that

#

now you can have basically a virtual PC nvidia gives you

#

step 3 either login to steam account you have or make one

#

then login to geforce now with it

jagged lark
#

Do demo versions work? Only wanna test out 2 games right now

jovial tide

yeah I think so

#

many games work

best FPS to try is Valve games & destiny 2

jovial tide
#

see it's not bad

it's definitely playable but games are limited

And now i see why everyone wants it capped to 120. Jumping all around from 150+ ⬇️ 105

brave field

capped meh

So this what a good cpu and gpu do 😂😂

We're trying Geforce Now

It's one of the best cloud game streaming services ever made

brave field
#

In the event you do go for your own hardware at some point though, do give Freesync/gsync a try, I mean

#

might feel better than capping if your refresh rate is high enough

jagged lark
#

Lol give me a couple weeks to wait for games to go on sale and i’ll be playing everyday 10+ hours

jovial tide
#

You like Geforce now Famous X?

jagged lark

I’ll be playing it on a tv not monitor

#

Yeah @jovial tide

brave field
#

Head to the r/freegamefindings subreddit or whenisthenextsteamsale

#

grab the free EGS promos each week on top of those and you should be able to get something like 12-14 games a month

jagged lark
#

My tv is more than likely capped at 60hz so i’ll be playing at that much fps UNLESS I don’t get screen tearing

jovial tide
#

I think Geforce Now might be limited to 60Hz

#

you can check the settings page on it for more info (bottom right)

jagged lark
#

Tv’s a 4k @jovial tidehz

#

Hdmi 1.4

jovial tide
#

GeForce now is capped at 60fps

#

to your PC

#

because of their bandwidth limitations

jagged lark
#

So i can still do 100+ fps but in reality only 60?

jovial tide
#

So the computer they are using will get that fps you see there, but you will be limited to 60

jagged lark
#

Ooh then no wonder it didn’t feel like 150 fps

jagged lark
#

What does this mean?

#

After 31 aug i’ll be charged £12?

jovial tide

is it a subscription?

if so it means during that period it'll give you that amount for the next period 13 pounds per month

some live in medium sized house 30 meters

20-30 meters is fine

Multi-user MIMO (MU-MIMO) is a set of multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) technologies for multipath wireless communication, in which multiple users or terminals, each radioing over one or more antennas, communicate with one another. Yess, the one I'm getting is a lil bit more because I'm getting extra stuff for it like 2tb HDD, 256gb SSD and 16GB RAM

#

It's only £15 more tho

jovial tide

oh yeah Tee you can buy it straight from their website

Yeah, the one on the website is better imo

#

@jovial tide I'm wondering something

#

What are you wondering about?

#

Because I may not be able to use the ethernet cord, would I need to buy WiFi for the PC or not?

#

yes yes you can

#

there's usb wifi and pci-e wifi which is installed in the case

#

On the website, there's an option to buy WIFI for it

kindred temple
#

Yeah thats usually card

#

Unless specified

#

Ill go with none aPES_LulLaugh

jovial tide
#

Wdum card?

#

Okayyy, tyy

kindred temple
#

You can get USB adapter for like 4 eur

#

Or even less if you go used

jovial tide
#

Do you need a USB adapter?

kindred temple
#

Not really

#

Depends on the board

#

But again

#

LAN is better

jovial tide
#

I agree ethernet's better

#

but wifi is ok I guess if done well

#

I know, I just don't know if I would be able to get one

#

so all motherboards have ethernet cards on them, you can just buy a wifi usb card or an internal one just to be sure

#

So you recommend me getting a WiFi adapter?

jagged lark
#

I’ve bought Ubisoft+ and looks like i can play it on Geforce now

#

So in total spent like £11

jovial tide

Is that good or?

jagged lark
#

Yeah it’s good. Don’t need to add ons as dlc’s get included

jovial tide
#

On nice, happy days thenn

#

@jovial tide do you think I should get a WiFi adapter then? If yes, how many mbs do you suggest

jagged lark
#
  • my wifi is extremely good so that’s another bonus
pliant lynx
jovial tide
#

Well it's useful if you can't connect a cable to it @jovial tide

jovial tide
#

And also that depends on your internet connection speed

pliant lynx
#

but nowaday most wifi adapter has the same bands

#

just make sure it supports AC

jagged lark
#

With the free version that’s a 1 hour session length does that mean after one hour is over only way to play again is by buying it?

pliant lynx
#

802.11ac

pliant lynx
jovial tide
#

Does it matter how many mbs if it does

#

Oh okay

pliant lynx
#

nah just get 802.11ac

jovial tide
#

That's my phone btw idk if it would change

pliant lynx
#

there will be difference

#

may i know why not just connect your pc via LAN??

#

too far ?

jovial tide
#

Well I'm gonna get the PC when I move incase something happens whilst we are moving furniture or whatever and I don't know where the plugs and whatnot would be

pliant lynx
#

ahh i see

jovial tide
#

Yess

pliant lynx
#

is it multiple storeys?

jovial tide
#

So I may be able to, but I'm just planning

#

Well yeah it's 2, bottom floor and top floor

pliant lynx
#

u can take a look at powerline adapter for ethernet, they might cost abit but it allows u to do wired connection

jovial tide
#

What's a powerline adapter

pliant lynx
#

it basically allows u to transmit signal via your powerlines in your house

jovial tide
jagged lark
#

Guess I don’t need to buy the paid gforce version if i can keep playing on the free version. Nice nice

pliant lynx
#

A powerline adapter is an alternative to running in-wall Ethernet cables or relying on possible unstable WiFi. A powerline adapter has the ability to send your music, photo, video, and computer data over your household's existing electrical wiring just like it would over Ethernet cables.

#

it might cost more but is more beneficial as it is a better alternative using wifi adapters

jovial tide
#

Every time you move you need to get new internet, new land lines, etc

#

Do you?

jagged lark
#

@jovial tide since your with BT, enter the post code in that area and it’ll show the best wifi that works

#

But imo i’d say get something like fibre broadband and use and ethernet cable for constant 100+ mbps

jovial tide
#

Enter the postcode where

#

Just on Google or what

jagged lark
#

Then go down a little bit where it says postcode

jovial tide
#

It usually works like that

jagged lark
#

Unless you live far away from some big shops/ buildings it’ll show really bad broadband

jovial tide
#

Can you find postcodes on google maps?

A modulator-demodulator, or simply a modem, is a hardware device that converts data from a digital format, intended for communication directly between devices with specialized wiring, into one suitable for a transmission medium such as telephone lines or radio. if that's mesh that's like top quality wifi

like the first device ISP gives you internet on

Oh

pliant lynx

ethernet>wifi

jovial tide
