This came from the ISO download mounted with Rufus, the media tool said it required 16gb of free space on their C, they are reinstalling because it was previously an education install and they had only 5gb of free space and no permissions to clear most of it. Now, there's no Windows install on the laptop to remake it with Rufus, hooray

The installer claims a file it needs on the USB is corrupt. Of course, before checking if an installer file on the USb was corrupt, it wiped his C drive

Rufus was used from the start because the media tool wanted 16gb of free space on C and since it was previously a school device, user accounts take up most of the space on C and can't be deleted easily

Even with that CPU situation, you're fine with a good unit. One that can only deliver 400W or so over 12V will be risky, though

Are SSD write limits something I should be concerned about these days? I've never used an SSD but I remember it being a huge 'issue' back when they became popular

today's SSDs can live to a much higher 'TBW' the manufacturer specifies. for example samsung warranty often specifies 150TB writes for the device life but Ive seen them performing well even when their TBWs gone much higher like 350TB

and btw, make sure the SSD you are buying supports trim (though i think most of newer ones already support it but it wont hurt to check before buying)
