hmm what is it?
Maybe your motherboard isn't mounted on standoffs, or something is touching your case in a weird way, something like that
You can narrow things down more by temporarily using another OS or trying the drives in the ports you use for your keyboard/mouse, but I think the issues with startup/shutdown point to something physical
Intel® Core™ i3-10100F Processor (10th GEN)
H410 Motherboard
8GB 2666 DDR4
1TB SATA 7200 Rpm
120GB SSD
GTX 1650 4GB DDR5```
Can I do better than this for around $500?
Probably not, getting the 1650 at a good price as an individual is going to be painful
Thanks
wait actually @strong saffron
This has restocked 4 times in the past few days
Maybe refresh it or if you have an account, add it to your favorites/list
I'm not in the US, unfortunately 😬
ah
any idea why i cant record/screenshot minecraft it just shows my launcher screen even tho im ingame in both scenarios and trying to google it just shows stuff for obs when i just wanna use radeon software
why did my ip go out of my range in ps4?
I can't play online and I restarted my router it's still the same
Do I need to set a static ip for my PS4?
The PowerSpec G438 desktop computer is a powerful gaming machine featuring the Intel Core i7-10700K unlocked processor cooled with a AIO Liquid ML240L Water Cooling Kit mounted on an MSI Z490-A PRO system board. For gameplay domination it includes an NVidia GeForce RTX 3070 Video Card with 8GB of GDDR6 memory and 32GB DDR4 3200 RAM. The Windows ...
Fixed it, just switched my PS4 lan port
that is extremely expensive for what it is
and a 3070 is kind of overkill
i dont know why 32gb would be useful, 16 gigs is good enough
plus u can always buy better sticks after
i can find a pc build that has rgb fans, 3060, 16 gbs, 1TB storage, same cpu at 1,599
How long will that take?
i can link u it rn
Alright
https://nzxt.com/build/6bf8d5c5-4dd7-4c03-a367-1f01b8e91fd3 This is my NZXT build
Wow you are good
newegg is fairly reliable
But here's the thing I want more storage at least more than 2TB
unless u custom order one, i dont think i can find a pre build with 2TB storage
How can I custom order one?
I found a build with a 3070 that is 1.7k
that was instock last weekend when i was checking it
i mean, its over my budget
but its certainly a fairly good price for a 3070 build
Yeah it is I can focus on other parts of the build now
I mean I can just not use the extra money on the PC but I might just use it on something else
Yeah honestly I don't need to focus on anything else for the build
Maybe I can upgrade the keyboard and mouse but I rather not
Should I get a 5tb external hardrive?
me coming here to see people talking about coding only to find people talking only about PC hardware
wanna talk about coding? stackoverflow or github
💩
coding is strange
Yo

damn, discord's API is so fun to mess around with, it's really fun to send requests with postman to discord's API to change my settings.
Real men don't update their discord status with discord client, real men update their status by sending a patch request to https://discord.com/api/v9/users/@me/settings with the new status using postman

It would appear my raspberry pi has destroyed its SD card in three weeks
er
I did forget to move one of my docker containers to an HDD
but that one wasn't really doing anything write-intensive
I entered the queue for the 3070
i entered at 9 40 am et probably will get in under a month
normal 3070, not ti, for me
No... u dont not need more than 2tb
I've got a 4TB HDD in my PC, alongside 2.5TB worth of PCIe Gen 4 SSD storage
Might change it to an 8TB HDD and put the 4TB in the secondary PC...
meanwhile I only have an internal 256 gb nvme and an external 1 tb drive
on macos it isn't so bad, but windows already ate through its partition and left me with ~4 gb of free space smh
torrents
what is github and how is it related to gta online can someone please explain (i've seen this chinese kid do crazy stuff with github)

Im sorry, i had to.
Anyway:
Github is just a developer site where someone can dump their program's source code and its compiled apps.
Its not "GtA hAx!11!1!!111!"
So, TCA Quadrant add-on was in stock on a UK retailer for all of 3 minutes before being sold out and immediately scalped for double price
the past 9 months have been a rough time thanks to all the cringe ass opportunists
So guess who's waiting 5 years before being able to get a full TCA system
The other TCA stuff seems to have had stock stabilise already
Although probably gonna get a yoke system first...
(Don't wanna be locked to only Airbus style craft that use sidestick and throttle in MFS2020, as most, as in like 95%, use yoke)
I personally prefer multiple HDDs instead of one giant storage
Windows 10 is really amazing me with all it's shady stuff it does, Im wondering where all these massive SSD writes are originating
I wish I was not a gamer, I'd never touch this os.
ET phoning home
But even ameliorated, windows 10 still thrash on HDD.
Probably NT kernel showing its age.
I've already disabled all the nonsense stuff, but still, when checking with processhacker ,it shows a dozen of svchost.exe constantly writing on the disk
I thought maybe its the Event logger service, but if its disabled ,it takes down multiple other services with it
It's really sad that microsoft has dominated the GPU industry,
linux has the potential of beating windows in gaming, although linux is already so far from windows in gaming, and the reason is that companies like nvidia are too lazy to develop a solid driver for linux aswell as windows, or maybe they are not willing to do so atall!
but I have to say its getting better
gaming on linux maybe be as good as windows on Desktops, but on Optimus laptops... its a disaster
pog i got a 3060 ti
Does anyone know how to install pywin32?
I'll need the 5TB
So Chromecast is being a pain ever since the electrician worked on the house.
If you need it you get it
I'm a content creator. Video making. I keep lots of footage around as a result.
Laptop Type C port that able to charge is just dammmn

so anyone here who can recommend good extensions?
Extensions for what?
I'm trying to find a good 1TB external hardrive

Anything with an actual ground and preferably surge protection is amazing. APC by Schneider is my fave brand on surge protectors and UPS.
How's the GTX 1660 Super?
Good
Better value than 1660 or the Ti counterpart.
But imho, you might as well get the 3000 series if you can find those.
Keyword can
Plus I'm just only starting to transition from console to PC
If you're just transitioning, you'll probably need an entire PC, in which case, a prebuilt from a system integrator may be worth it
If youre just transitioning, consult your doctor and dont do DIY transition.

Make sure you personally spec up every part though, like what PC Specialist does
Depends on the budget, but imo
Unless you wanna wait Q1-2 2022
Go prebuild or SI.
And for the love of all that is holy... don't do single channel RAM
(and a single stick of RAM will always run single channel, so make sure you have 2 sticks of RAM, possibly 4, although usually 2 is better)
4 is better on Zen 3.
This benchmark started as an AMD Ryzen 5000 memory timings and frequency benchmark (like of 3600 vs. 3200, 3800, with FCLK changes), but morphed into a 2x8GB vs. 4x8GB benchmark.

2 stick of dual ranks should be better route especially if you only have 2 ram slots.
But 4 stick of SR pretty much does the same effect.
Ah, I believe my sticks are dual channel

I hate seeing new, unexpected things after Windows updates.
hello guys, can i set the file not readable, deletable and editable even by root in ansible?
i used attr: i but root still can read the file
anyone willing to help?
afaik by definition the root user has access to every file on its system, so I don't think that would be possible
What do you guys think of this?
Why an external drive?
Incase of any emergency I'll have my "important stuff" with me
you could probably find one for cheaper
I probably could but it's a good brand
Good brand, but it's just a 5 tb wd black hard disk in a fancy enclosure
which would be no different from these which are cheaper
If you could find me one that's cheaper and good then yeah sure
@rustic cape do you mean #852713543862452234 ?
Yeah sorry I thought I was there

do you guys think micky will improve the privacy options in win 11 or just make it worse?
i mean yeah ,thats a nice paradox, but in general
Not sure, I don’t even know what Micky is
microsoft
Ordered this any idea if its good
ordered it
Maybe try to not ask AFTER you buy?
From how it look it looks like another of those low end knockoff xbox controller.
So either unusable, or mediocre.
I like this
Asking purchase advice after purchase means youre just seeking confirmation.
It was literally the only brand i recognized rest were all random brands
And Microsoft only lists the latest xbox one wireless controllers on their own website and amazon which are mad expensive
I mean I did this with RTX 3080 TUF
ordered it first, saw a review later
Well asus makes quality product 99.99% of the time and 3080 is pretty much gonna be an upgrade above 2000 series.
All I hear are provoems with Asus products (but I went all Asus because I've had no problems with them)
Problems rather.
If u have a lot of money asus is good
£400 Asus motherboard, £1000 Asus RTX 3070...
My board was like 80 bucks
ROG Crosshair motherboard, from Asus.
what specs has who got?
uh
a guy named ducky posted a pic of the word "laggy"
well, it's just both me and Melon were discussing motherboards, so not sure who Rogue meant
a person uploaded a picture with Laggy text
so i was curious about their their pc specs
what does that actually offers to cost that much?
for me, it's all the USB ports on the motherboard itself (had terrible luck with USB expansions, be they internal or external). It also has the X570 chipset with 2 PCIe Gen 4 m.2 drives, a small display with 2 numbers to help with troubleshooting if POST fails, etc
I got it for the USB ports personally, though the little display has helped when trying to figure out why my PC wouldn't boot when connecting new things up
cant u get all these on a cheaper board
Not necessarily
The motherboard has built in WiFi, and it has 2 ethernet ports (2.5GBe and GBe)
I went for an SI prebuilt, so this was the only board they offered that had enough USB ports
These were the boards they offer, and I'm a bit averse to Gigabyte due to past experiences
Not to mention the 2 Gigabyte ones have half the USB ports of the Crosshair
(well, one has 6, one has 8, still quite a bit short of the Crosshair's 12)
i mean if u really that into USB ports u can buy pcie cards for it
i think even thunderbolt
Mentioned earlier, had nothing but bad experiences with various brands of both internal and external USB hubs
lemme see how many my board have
So yeah, they had to be on the motherboard as a result
Honestly asus B550-F is the max of what anyone needs
Unless you need thunderbolt
And or obscene amount of USB and m.2 port
Debatable
I'm using like 10 USB ports now XD
I prefer A-PRO from MSI B550 lineups
and that's not even got everything connected
why u need that much
I have a LOT of USB devices
Including two audio interfaces, a HDMI switcher that uses USB, a touch screen monitor, etc
so u want a lot of rear IO ports or u use the internals as well
Internals are in use already, connected to front ports
4 ports
i mean on the board each one can be separated into two ports
Yeah, they're already in use
Had to buy a 4 port internal USB2.0 header extension because my Lian Li Unifan hub and my Razer Chroma Addressable RGB controllers require them
I only have 2 usb 2 headers on my motherboard... one is being used by the front USB ports on my case (alongside a USB3 header, so 2 USB3 ports, 2 USB2 ports, even though all the ports are 3.0 capable), the other is currently being used by my Unifan hub
there's a cool NZXT internal USB splitter
Yeah, I bought that for that very reason
nah, newer one that uses SATA
Also, remember I already have the Crosshair board 😛
And the only expansion type I haven't tried yet are ones that connect direct to the motherboard header
I'm using 10 ports on the back right now
why?
Audio interface, mixer, HDMi switch (functions as a webcam too), keyboard (uses 2), mouse, mousemat, etc
some people do really need many ports
u really need a mixer?
I've had better luck with hardware
heck, my streaming isn't done with software either, I have specialised hardware for that too
i havent seen many audio engineers having any external mixer for balancing audio and stuff
For live mixing, I see it all the time
And also, XLR is always used, which requires an interface or mixer
i would get a second screen for that
Sure, you can. I'll stick to my actual hardware for it, which has been way more reliable for me than software.
Within a given time period that I'd get say 1'000 problems using software, my hardware might give me 1. That's how night and day a difference it has been for me. So yes, I'll stick to using hardware as a result.
ATEM Mini Pro ISO, with audio managed using the GoXLR
Also means no using webcams either, has to be proper cameras/camcorders, which cost more than a webcam
And I'm looking to upgrade my camera setup, to using £1'000 cameras (and that's just for the body, no lens)
is that even needed
Blackmagic cameras, will have really tight knit integration with the ATEM
u seem to be rich
with the ATEM Mini Extreme/Extreme ISO (which I will be looking to get to upgrade from my Pro ISO), there's buttons to control things like exposure, white balance, etc, for each camera, direct from the switcher. We're talking insane levels of control.
but that's more of a down the line upgrade
That's the way I work, I do check all those details
i can barely imagine buying a dslr of worth 500$
@blazing sundial that's how actual streamers work
Like the Blackmagic setup I'm going for, I decided was the best approach after hundreds of hours of research
@silent mason ever considered a second system to handle your stream?
Yeah, I've got a second system planned. Not for handling my stream, but for handling my overlays etc
It can also handle audio and shit
It'll do other things like being a test bench for game development, for acting as a secondary node for Fusion/Resolve
can u share your channel
might just drop some likes
Pro ISO can also handle audio and stuff too. The "ISO" moniker means every input is recorded separately, when doing video stuff
Because I've seen some people facing for example game crash that destroys the stream
My ATEM acts as the secondary system for streaming
Ah good
So should my game crash, or my PC bluescreen, the stream keeps trucking along (it's actually happened!)
Bluescreened during a stream with my ATEM. I was just able to laugh it off
what cpu u got?
The CPU in the system that happened with, 3770K. New system, 5900X
Streaming equipment is another rabbit hole because it gathers everything from good gaming/editing hardware then optics/audio hardware
But I've used OBS, I've used XSplit, I've tried SLOBS. My old PC supposedly was good enough for streaming, I had nothing but trouble. That's why I switched over to the ATEM for streaming. Because I was tired of constant software problems no matter what streaming software I used.
Not to mention software
My ATEM for streaming, has been reliable as fuck, no problems whatsoever
What ATEM?
ig u should get a better multi threaded processor
I was using NVENC to encode (GTX 760 in that system), specifically to deal with that
Again, my PC was repeatedly told as being good enough to stream, yet I consistently had problems. I moved to ATEM, no more problems.
Dont think nvenc on that gpu was any good
We're talking complete system lockouts from streaming, etc
Yeah considering even with nvenc it will still use some of your cpu
But I was told time and again "The 3770K is good enough, if it's doing that, something's wrong"
So I said "Sod that, I'm not using software to encode anymore", bought that ATEM switcher (so hardware encoder), and no problems ever since. I will not move back to using software encoding
It's good until u start slapping overlays
Even with no overlays it was doing it
Literally just the game feed and the camera was enough to cause it to choke, despite being told it was capable of handling so much more.
Even encoding at 540p resolution (yes, I actually tried that!)
So yeah, no matter how much better value for money using software like OBS to stream is, I'm not dealing with it anymore. I found a setup that works for me so I'm sticking with it.
And u probably been playing games as well?
It happened even when I was doing console games Melon
So just using a capture card to record/stream the Switch
That's odd
my evga date keeps on being extended
evga date?
My friend used to play gta and stream with a gtx760 and 3770k on 4.5ghz
So yeah, I tired of it, moved to ATEM, and not had any problems since (well, I had one, which was a PEBCAK. Couldn't use it as a webcam, because I forgot to plug it in lol)
I'm glad ATEM fixed it for u
Yeah, but things like GoXLR and ATEM are why I need so many USB ports
for evga queue
if you entered in theres a fan made site to track your time
It's a setup that handles everything I need, but at the cost of a LOT of USB ports.
for what
so what time do they track?
It's to give an estimate of when you can expect your turn in the queue to come up to buy the GPU
But it's worth mentioning it's only an estimate
Yeah, only EVGA do it

Other GPU manufacturers just leave you to fend for yourself
i would use my graphic card even if i get artifacts
Lower memory clock
thats like dropping half the frames
Not really
for me yea
my 3080 memory gets toasty
what game
yeah, I'm in the queue for an EVGA 3070 for my friend myself
(non-Ti model)
https://www.element35gaming.com/ fan made site to check notifies
Web site to track the EVGA Product Queues
do clocks vary with the company?
With the version
Your GPU cooling and power solution matters more in a custom card than "FaCtOrY oVeRcLoCk"
I remember buying a gtx 970 ACX2
then slapped FTW bios on it
Makde it an FTW which used to cost 40$ more
the evga cards look so nice idk why people hate on them
the ugliest cards are zotac and pny
Should of seen inno3D
they look trash
Asus Strix 30 series cards don't look that great tbh
Asus 10 series strix looked great
FTW only good point is the fact that it is choked with censor in the first few lineup of icx redesign
i liked 2080ti strix
But i think it trickles to every EVGA lineup now.
over 3080 strix
oh yeah, I had a Strix 1080... dang that was a nice looking card
a lot more classy and less flashy
I had the strix 1060
I have a Strix 3070 now though, because guaranteed RGB from the prebuilt
Wonder if anyone here bought a Yeston GPU
yeston
We needed a pick-me-up after reviewing prebuilts, so we're looking at a unique video card design for the RX 6700 XT: It's the Yeston Sakura, and it might be apt to call it a "waifu" card.

linked it already lol

I went from a GTX 760 to it... trust me, I needed the upgrade
the entire system needed an upgrade
Yeah I put mine into a prebuilt
I really want more of these factory painted design imo
Even for limited run of like 10-20k
Since that was the only way I was getting a new PC without paying scalpers
Its fun when the artist for the box can actually ya know... Artistically be free.
pickle rick from fortnite gpu
You laugh but id love to make pickle rick mini ITX PC

@cold elbow so I found someone on reddit who has the same AiO and Case
I wanna know how he got those custom sleeves
CableMod
cablemod
or some Chinese cables
i dont like that he kept the hard drive cages
I kept them as well
But then stuff will clank in the box and thats baddddd

unless I get water cooling, i don't see a reason to remove it
and then I saw these cables
just giving u more space
how can you get custom NZXT aio cables....
he sleeved them?
Like with gas pistol?
no, I mean this
yeah
yeah you heat it with a gas pistol
u probably dont need custom cables cus they cost a lot
ye
I did order some extentions
I have a corsair spec 01
It has barely enough space to put wires
Isn't this fine?
no space to mount aio on the top
Looks decent
and front intake sucks
That's what it is for
so i have that panel opened from the bottom to let more air in
all i want is an old tower case
with rubber hard drives mounts
cant find these nowadays
think I got enough rad options? XD
Whats this, metallic gear?
Meanwhile my case
what, my case?

Hi Guys, little off topic can someone help me with my query : I play games on my xbox series x with tv as my display. I am looking for an headset which will give me good sound like music played on spotify while I game as well I should be able to talk to my friends on the mic, any suggestions here ? Thanks in advance.
That case ya linked on the pic
Is it just me or is that a huge scam
$1.8k for a 1030
At that price it should be wrapped in gold foil
But it's easier to buy gold than a gpu
fkin crypto man
gold foil isn't actually that expensive tbh
And the price of it barely depreciates, whereas GPU prices are like Bitcoin
what’s the best prebuilt pc rn for 1000$
NZXT ones i suppose
ah, that's the case I have. the Phanteks Enthoo 719.
Is obs good enough for streaming on YouTube
Im facing problems with the audio as I only want the specific window's audio and not the desktop audio
OBS is the standard for streaming to Youtube
You might want to set up an audio input in the thingie at the bottom
I haven't seen any option of recording a specific audio
If you use something like VB Audio cable or the thing made by the creeps who make that banana/voicemeeter trash, you can point the window's output there
then mirror that output into a virtual input with the same program, and enable listening through Windows/pulseaudio
OBS will pick up the VB audio device but not the audio from listening to a recording device
The easiest way is to turn down whatever other apps are making noise in your OS mixer
I didn't know my os has a mixer
os mixer...
Buy a key for $5
Or activate it using a readily available activation script
If you’re going to buy a key then at least buy a legitimate key from ms directly and not from some guy on eBay
Why u even need to activate
@cold elbow I just found in my bag of PCI-E cables that i only have splitters
the 8 pin to psu that splits to 16
i dont understand @tall dome
I can only do this for my gpu
im doing this
really?
yeah
and no issues?
mine is 8+6 pins
yeah no issues
these cables can handle a lot
btw my card consumes 180W max
yeah but 3080 consumes about 350W right
pcie specs says 150W but these 8 pins connectors can handle WAAAAY more
like a single 8 pin can carry 350W alone
the problem is not the cables that cant handle the current, it's the connectors themselves and since you're using 2x8 then you will be fine
and they say that the 3080 needs 320W and that's peak
btw what's your PSU?
modular
yes
yeah, did you mean CPU?
guess imma close my PC and have a look
these all what u get
u can use the 4+4
but some boards comes with 3x4 for CPU so they gave u 8+4+4 just incase
u should have have 2 of the 6+2
so u plugged the 4+4 into the motherboard?
pretty sure yeah
I could just use this for the GPU I guess
dont think u can
u should have two cables for the GPU which are 6+2
maybe it's plugged now as well and u dont know
fucking hell, the mess inside the psu shroud makes me wanna unplug everything
this is what u should do one day
like having one sata power cable plugged instead of all
honestly I kinda wanna do it before the 3080 arrives
when i start building i usually lay down the complements and what power cables required for that
why buying a modular psu if u gonna plug them all
fuck it imma remove the Led strips
the whole damn thing is what makes the back look so awful
u should work at that on the final step
well at least I know I have an extra PCIE single cable
Your new gpu will use both connectors and that would probably look better
About your AIO cabled u can push the cables on the right to the right more.. away from the VRMs and stuck them more towards the board
Same goes for the cable on the left, push it to the left and hide it below the vrm
And try to hide this somewhere
Can't u route it under the psu shroud?
I hate the usb 3 connector
i got a intel fans like E97379, will it easily to break if i try to pull it out
since i want to do self cleaning
send a pic if you can
this?
first, rotate all the screws counterclockwise , then slightly pull them up (very gently ,do not break the pins)
I used to push the pins from the other side after rotating them
Like from the back of the board
thats a good practice if you have access to the back
installing it is abit tricky tho
that's when most pins break if you are not careful
when you're done with cleaning , to install it back, you have to rotate all the screws clockwise to the end, then try to push down 2 pins at same time in X pattern
I dealt with that same mess. Luckily my case has a cutout running the whole width of those connections so I ended up getting some 90° adapters that let me run the cable straight downward.
there I hided the fan cables away from the VRM (The AIO is still very close)
ohh right
as well as JUST made it with fans in front
it was kinda tight
bruh my fuse went off
scary
damn your house breaker triggered?
actually it is self explain able
10Amp
ok imma need to upgrade that
actually wait
2300W is alot
how in the hell does a PC kill off the whole fuse
you may have shorted something
also, gta v map loading/rendering depend on cpu or gpu?
i might get a new processor since mine was very old (i3 gen3)
what you mean by 'map loading'?
game overall loading time?
like when you driving some part of the map that building and road that didnt load yet
cpu can cause that, but before that, your HDD may be another bottleneck causing that
i have SSD
?! ata ssd?
What game u playing with that cpu usage
ct960bx500ssd1 has SATA interface
not ATA
whats you motherboard model?
gta v
did you take that picture while playing gta?
I think thats the problem cuz ur GPU is Idle!
is it always like that?
whats your gpu?
1050ti
do you know where gta's settings.xml file is?
dunno
documents/Rockstar games/GTAV
open it using notepad
go to the end of the file
see what gpu is listed there
same
</video>
<VideoCardDescription>NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti</VideoCardDescription>
</Settings>
hmmm, no issues, here.
perhaps, it's your cpu
causing that loading issue
your ram, ssd, gpu ,all good
core i3 you said? which generation?
gen 2
hmm, I think that's the culprit here.
poor dual core
i think you need a new cpu xd
xd
i guess the temp is over 90 all the time
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/intel-core-i5-11400-11th-generation-6-core-12-thread-2-6-to-4-4-ghz-lga1200-locked-desktop-processor/6452218.p?skuId=6452218 based budget cpu

unironically the 11400 is based as fuck
Actually i see 5600x and B550 combo being in 11400 price range sometimes
So rarely
You can get a better CPU
Wdym
Heck u do
dunno
11400+motherboard costs about as much as 5600x standalonr
I think powering up the PC jump starts the Wattage
11400 based department
ok I found out, I did all that while someone plugged a vacuum cleaner
they're getting scolded, brb
No i mean for the equivalent 11400+B560 combo

I am dumb
Im a dumb whore
Lol
But yeah
ok now that's done
imma go back to #archive_contest-discussion to help some people
Its trailin
actually before that
5600G ftw
😱
That and the 5700G are what I'm looking at.
I use pics art

@silent mason yeah cus they good value now and they hold their value for a resale or using it for another purpose like a home server
Or in my case a secondary rig to act as a chain link for my main rig.
is it true that routers can't handle speeds above what I pay for? I pay for 50mbps but I'm getting speeds up to 90mbps, but it fluctuated for 3 days straight and I was told that it can't handle speeds above 60mbps, is it true?
Most routers run gigabit on LAN already which is 10000mbps
So it's better to check you router's manual
Thanks
The speeds I got btw on speed test wireless was 52mbps, but on the router admin it said 61mbps
is this normal rn?
what

Why is it (commonly) recommended to get a VPS and host your own VPN instead of using an existing VPN provider? The arguments against VPN providers are that they can log/mess with your traffic and that you aren't exactly protected because the provider has access to your IP; but all of this is true for VPS providers too right?
playing gta while watching youtube in browser is definitely not normal for that poor cpu of yours
vps providers can access your logs and activity, If and only if they have to, in comparison to a vpn provider which your log/activity is under their magnifying glass all the time along with logs of thousands of other people at the same time. so it is actually correct that hosting your own vpn may be a better solution. almost all of those vpn providers say they delete your logs and dont keep anything, but thats bullshit. basically in todays internet world, using a vpn doesn't make you invisible or anonymous on the internet anymore, it just changes your IP/geolocation data. if you really seek anonymity on the internet you should use tor, which, has it's own prices to pay when you use it.
it is even worse in case of free vpns, there was a brilliant statement I saw someone mentioned, that when you use such free services/products, you are not using the product, you ARE the product.
They cant really log anything from your vps' vpn
It's like going towards 3 roads
What also u can use and very recommend is switched to another DNS
So it's basically the same but VPSs are less likely to log you?
The VPS itself can log before it connects to their VPN no?
Im just talking about the log safety aspects, but serving ur own vpn has other advantages as well
but if someone thinks they are anonymous on the web and start doing shady stuff just because they are serving their own vpn, they are wrong.
that's why all the illegal stuff is happening inside tor network
VPNs are such scams now
Why is that?
Not sure why its happened only in the past 2 years but every company seems to host their own and they advertise them super heavily and market them as something that makes you "instantly 100% secure" while their privacy policy states they log everything, and then they want to require you to sign up with your legal name, address, phone number, payment info, etc.
They also never give helpful info on disabling other ways to be tracked, like WebRTC or people using browsers that leak everything anyways like vanilla chrome
Its almost as if you can really only trust ProtonVPN
How much is proton?
They have a relatively slow free tier, then a 4€ a month and 8€ per month tier that offers TOR and torrenting support
All their clients are open-source and ad-free, another thing that's annoying with the big name providers
What VPN's do you recommend?
Its ridiculous that some companies like HMA or Norton or PIA want to sell people "security" while also relying on Google advertising IDs and selling "telemetry data" which wouldn't be profitable if it didn't contain personally identifiable info
Really only Proton or Mullvad, and they don't actually make you anonymous
But those two at least are based in relatively-free countries when it comes to internet privacy and ISPs snooping around, have completely open-source clients, and have had actual security audits
What are your thoughts on other VPN's like surfshark and Norton
Surfshark has heavy advertising but it seems many of their users don't actually use their paid tiers, which is a bit suspicious. Closed source clients... why are they closed source? Cure53 has done a security audit on their browser extensions though.
One thing about their privacy policy also; They say they use your data with marketing service providers and then immediately turn around and say they don't. Nice and consistent. /s
Norton, I'd never trust because they're Norton
exactly,
what Imma say is abit off-topic to the vpn subject, but
why would anyone trust all these flamboyant and ostentatious security tools and antivirus softwares? why should I hand full control of my system to a closed source software which then acts as an overlord over my head and inspect every damn thing I do!
Im talking about all the antivirus softwares btw
Its bad, yeah
Marketing is so good that you can now get people to buy spyware
To think AVG and Avast were once actual viable options for people who have a tendency to click every download link they find, and now they both spy on people and change OS settings without their permission
yeah that's horrible, I've heard about that too
well, Data is the 21st century's digital oil, and as you said, all these companies are digging into our systems and privacy to extract data
I personally trust none of those softwares
AVG should be struck down
I enabled its "silent mode" in a VM. It grabs all your browser data and imports it into its own skin of Chromium, AVG Secure Browser
"silence" must mean installing apps without your permission
Can anyone find me good pc part for £800 please idk a lot about them but I would like one?
You should really go for a prebuilt if there's a deal going on currently
until that, I like the idea of https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/CpYLmk + the best GPU you can get your hands on, probably a 3060/ti or something if you're diligent
Thx
What about a good website that has prebuilt because it’s a possibility my mum won’t let me build a pc coz she thing I might mess it up @brave field
There's no website where anyone can just say all the prebuilts they have on it are good and safe to buy, sadly
you really just have to check deal sites for heavily discounted ones and then check professional reviews for that specific model
Ok tysm
Why the hell are search results so big?
looks fine to me
That looks like the frontpage previews but in the search results, weird
that is huge
huh
This looks so much better though
mine looks like that too is that not normal
Yeah I think I might go back to 15.02
I can get used to the comments being at the top, but I just hate that I can’t see more content
Worst change.
Yep, 15.02 is the sweet spot
Extra clicks for commonly used features 🚮
oh wait that does look alot more familiar how did i not rrealise
If it weren’t for cercube/bluebear then I’d probably go mad using stock YouTube
The ABS Challenger ALI521 is the next on our list of pre-built reviews, and thus far, it has been the most impressive of the other 3 we reviewed. It has faults, but is built competently overall.

Tech Jesus finally found a "good" prebuilt
I'm very happy with my prebuilt. Then again, the prebuilt manufacturer had me choose every spec of it, from what they had available.
and it was mostly Asus and Corsair stuff they offered, with some Gigabyte motherboard options sprinkled in, and an option to get whatever GPU of that spec (e.g. RTX 3070) they can get their hands on. Plus the option to send your own case in. So is that the same as buying a prebuilt?
So I have Windows 10 on my laptop is there a way I can put that same windows 10 on a usb to install it on a new account/laptop
you're gonna have to download a windows 10 ISO from microsoft
how do i copy text from a site that doesnt let me
You could try taking a screenshot and using OCR to convert image to text that can be copied
Ok thx

No
yes if you dont know what you're doing
Would the integrated GPU in a Ryzen 5 3400G perform better than a GeForce 940M?
windows 10 moment
Sometimes u click on things and they automatically download stuff that runs in background
Other thing that might slow it down is dust
SSD or HDD?
I dont think dust affects performance, maybe only cause overheating
in some severe cases the dust may cause shorts between SMD component's leads
what i meant is dust getting into the heatsink
Huh, an attack on NoxPlayer
Another Android emulator down, now the only thing that's really somewhat safe to use is Android Studio
which takes a lil effort to work with actually, specially importing/exporting of files, its not simplified like nox or other emus.
I was working with that in 2019, dont know about new versions today though
Its sad there are no safe to use and consumer friendly Android emulators
maybe something new will be out soon
I think Genymotion can be trusted in this realm, used it alot on linux back then, no issues
alas its not completely free
but has free plans
Genymotion has DRM and licensing, yeah
Their DRM solution is a wee bit invasive
Though, I suppose its at least better than MalwareStacks and BigSpywareNox
and the disaster Andyroid was
damn right 💯
oh boy bluestacks is a disaster indeed
I mean if you see the bigger picture, the android os itself is a big data miner 'by default', so...
eh, not hugely
AOSP/Android without forced GAPPS is fine, and you can usually tweak Androis installs with GAPPS a decent amount
Its only really bad on the phones where manus act like Google or their own services are a requirement and only allow you to stop or disable using ADB. I'd take it over how Apple handles things, but neither is ideal
yeah I actually meant the phones, the os itself is semi-opensource, so theres not much to worry about but still, this is 'google' we are talking about
I wish we had an actual viable option besides Google and Apple
Wasn't there something called Libre some time back? idk what happened to it
there are linux based phones out there, bad sadly i dont have access to them here
Google still is locking down Android and Apple is going to continue being Apple for a long time
Those more stripped down Linux phones sound nice but app compatibility...
nvm this is what I meant. It's called PureOS https://puri.sm/
yeah..
it'd be nice to see manufacturers like system-76 also make a viable linux based phone
Their phone is super expensive for its specs though
tbh that's to be expected if they're not making money off other 'services'
If it starts with "desktop pyqt project with altered aspect," count me out
$800, yeah, ow
A used one might be interesting
Do yall think my pc would be able to run gta very well with this?
no
GTA cares much, much more about your CPU
No I actually have a graphics card recommended for gta. I’m willing to trade you for it at no additional cost to you
I know that lol
I sent the question as a joke
can afford that gpu but not a manicure
He obviously stole it
can anyone help me on games like rust and warzone and rarely on gta i get lagspikes every 5-10secs which makes it impossible to play
i got a i5-7400 CPU a 1050 TI 8gb ram
Warzone makes sense, Rust shouldn't struggle like that though. Maybe there's some throttling? Monitor your temps with HWiNFO
warzone runs normall sometimes
but sometimes i just go in warzone
and it takes around 5minutes to load in a game and by the time ive loaded in im fucking dead
maybe i need more ram or smth
so it runs faster
i dont really know a lot about computer things
but people have told me i need more ram
More ram can help
I'd look into everything to narrow down what it may be before putting any money in though
run sensors-only in HWiNFO, play your game for a bit, if its stuttering, let it be for a while, tab back into hwinfo and see if CPU/GPU temps are 80C or above
worth checking task manager too, in case something is being annoying in the background
each time i alt tab out of the game my warzone crashes
and i alt tab and it takes like 1-2 minutes until i can actually do somethign
Are you using fullscreen?
yeh
Try borderless
ok
Exclusive fullscreen causes those sorts of problems very frequently
close it, repoen it
all the ones with the thermometer on the left
you might want to click the arrow button at the bottom right to split it into two or three pages isntead of one long one
oki made it in 3 rows
so everything that has celcius to it?
celcious or however you type it
yes

imagine what 2080 ti users can sell their gpus for
are they like very good or smth lol i dont know a lot about computers n shit
its not hard to understand the basis of tech so u dont get scammed
70C, safe, hmm
ehhh
arguably very safe
depends on the context
another guy in a diff dc told me also its ram
if its being used on live cpu heavy applications, sure...
His CPU doesn't throttle until 95C and the GPU only begins stopping its boost at 83C
over like 10-15 people tell me its ram
Check your ram usage in resource monitor while you're playing
ight
its like that sometimes
whats ur cpu?
winrar is supposed to be open in the background?
i5-7400
winrar shouldnt be in the background if not being used
7zip gang
same
i did use it like 2 mins ago tryna open then hwinfo thing in mid of my game
how many gigs of ram u have in ur system?
yea
1tb ram
good call
ur dreams
lol
ur not linus sex tips
nah I've actually got 16 gb
4 sticks of 32gb
how many channels do u have?
i usually dont like i5 processors due to them not being very economically friendly compared to spending 200 extra bucks for way better performance
if u can really muster money, hey, ryzen 5-7 are all good prices for good performance
here's what an old lapotp looked like when I tried to run gta 5 on it
10th gen and 7th gen are entirely different beasts
well the thing is i got this pc which was prebuilt at like 2016 when i was still 11 so i didnt understand a single thing and i was playing minecraft or whatever i was playing back then
AMD CPUs in new condition are almost entirely wasteful to buy right now imo
wait for their APUs?
very interestng
i mean if u need a desperate upgrade and got the money, ryzen cpus are performing better if not close to i5 and i7 cpus
10400F is kinda 🥵
they cool
3600-like performance at $140
well a time ago a guy asked me what pc i had cuz i said i had a prebuilt i said i got the MSI trident 3 and he told me that some of the parts are inbuilt the case or smth
but AMD deserves some credit in both terms of market share and how in 5 years they caught up to intel
definitely
caught up
bit of an understatement at this point tbh
caught up dominating intel in terms of performance
hopefully competition ramps up hugely when the shortages are over
the shortage wont go away until miners get their shit correctly
GPU mining isn't affecting CPU R&D
and unless all global trade come together and crack down, its gonna be another rough couple of years, and im planning on getting a new pc next year during black friday
ok so i ordered new ram as i said should i do anything else?
or really any of the semiconductor problems affecting things far more important than GPUs
I want to see 5600x-like performance at $100 though
competition, please
if AMD stops expanding their streak of good cpus for a couple of years, yea, its probably likely to see 5600x performances at 100 bucks
ok my cpu is now at90% cuz there was some windows message input fucking thing open that took 22% of it
idk waht the fuck t hat was
Windows 10 moment
is windows 10 bad or smth xd
microsoft really need to get their shit together and figure out why so many applications are uselessly wasting ram/cpu/gpu
always has been
