hm
that looks almost like the spike in CPU_Time a few other people had
not real performance issues, just the game deciding to randomly destroy itself for about half a second
hdd
i don't have enough space to put the game on ssd
the game is on an external hdd, i could move the game to internal hdd but i dont think it makes a big difference does it? @arctic yarrow
I've not played any CoD titles in a while, but I know in some modern games, especially open world titles, I experience frame drops like you experience on a HDD, but not on a SSD.
ssd is better
Are you able to move some data from your SSD to your HDD, then install it on your SSD temporarily?
Yup, and water is wet.
Anyway, that might help you figure out if the problem is with an IO read bottleneck, or another component.
no it's literally a 128gb ssd lol @arctic yarrow
best i can do is move it to the other hdd that has slightly better write and read speeds
Yeah, that could help alleviate some of your issues if it is an IO problem. If that does minimize the problem, I would look at obtaining another SSD to put games on.
are external ssd's good
500gb SSDs go for around 50 USD currently.
Steam doesn't like external SSDs for some reason when installing games, but they run fine after they're installed.
The last few people with this issue have had it fixed when they upgraded from 4c8t to 6c12t, even though usage isn't nearing 100%, so I'm guessing it really is something related to how the game handles or doesn't handle HT/SMT
Problem is, his motherboard doesn't support more than 4c/8t
yeah, and with the value Intel CPUs keep on the used market, even if there was, it would cost more than new mobo + new CPU, sadly
I forgot, does 6th gen intel use DDR3 or DDR4?
6th gen is made for DDR4 but it accepts and can use DDR3L with certain boards
normal DDR3 is bad for the IMC
OK, then getting a b550 board with a midrange 3rd gen ryzen might be a good budget option.
The only reason why I recommend b550 if you're looking at an upgrade is due to AMD making their CPUs backwards compatible for as long as possible (Unless you're using ASUS)
That way, you have a path to upgrade in the future.
I'd try to hold out for as long as possible
AM4 is about to be replaced and so will LGA1200
9 months is a pretty long wait, but regardless of which you choose your upgrade options will be limited
Gotcha, AMD hit their limit on AM4?
Ryzen 5000 is it for AM4
RIP
unless something goes wrong and they make a Ryzen 5000+/6000 but that would just be a refresh, not a new arch
Makes sense tho. They've been running the same socket for 4+ years now.
cya in 10 years
Oh Lawd, only $85 away from my goal, then I'm gonna liquidate 1/4th of my profit from my crypto portfolio and start actively trading with it.
Made $4000 over the past 1 1/2 months.
Just by buying and holding.
GL
I ordered a fan for my case š
well the transfer went flawless so thats good, gonna try playing when shaders finish @arctic yarrow
with rgb?
as long as it works
I don't expect the drops to be eliminated, but if it is an IO bottleneck you should see a reduction.
which one
my budget fan reccomendation is always arctic p12/p14 lol
okay here's a fun one, it seems the frame drops are caused by discord, without discord running i hardly get drops @arctic yarrow @brave field
ah
disable hardware acceleration in Discord's settings
same for your web browser
if its off, enable it, then
its off on discord
and on in chrome
should i just try with it dsiabled in disc and chrome
okay
ignore the web browser for now, set it and test performance
okay
with acceleration on on disc it feels less frequent/worse drops , but overall performance feels worser
ah
Discord/Chrome/Firefox hardware acceleration mainly changes what is used to render the program, embedded videos, and gifs, on being GPU and off being CPU
I guess mess around with whichever is most comfortable
Do you have the Discord Overlay enabled? That hurts performance quite a bit too, even if you don't use the hotkey to open it
There we go. Looks like I was off the mark with Disk IO. Then again, I mainly have experience with open world titles.
Haha that's what i ordered
The p12
Ay for you crypto nerds
ALPHA/BTC pair is about to go up.
it's low rn. so if you wanna check it out go for it.
ALPHA... haven't heard of it, sounds risky
Eh well i have bots that tell me otherwise
thought i'd hit this place up with the info š
I just dropped $200 in it
Some smaller auto trades
Cba for usdt rn. BTC is gonna hit 60k again soon so other coins are gonna go up a bit
I'm mostly in ETH atm
I was waiting on it to hit 4k, then liquidate 1k to drop into other coins.
Same but my bots just cashed out traded into BTC for its ALPHA pair
So they can maximise profits
ETH did make some really tasty gains today.
Yeah gotta love ETH always coming in clutch when i sleep
Jesus fuck, I hate printers.
"Printer, please print this black-and-white document."
"FUCK YOU. FEED ME MAGENTA!"
Then after you replace the damn cartridge it still refuses to print because of "unknown error"
a fellow printer hater
finally
I don't know if "Unknown Error" or "Something Went Wrong" is more infuriating
IKR, tell me WTF went wrong and I'll fix it. Don't leave me guessing.
At least an error code would give me something.
I'm kicking myself a little for not liquidating some ETH at 3950 today.
is my way of naming colors for my color palette too confusing for others?
black abs
I really like dark white
absolute black
are there flavours of black and white?
I would think that something either is or isn't black
Seems pretty straightforward to me.
Yo , those somebody knows about a good laptop brand?
That will not brake my wallet either
every brand has their good and their bad products
as for the second, what are you using the laptop for?
School and video rendering most of the time . And gaming but like i play in low graphics anyway dont care much about the gaming aspect
The current one i have is okayish , but soon ill have to replace it so yeah
specs of the current one, so one who recommends doesn't recommend something worse?
HP laptop 15-bs011la
Intel Core i3 6006U
Ram 8GB
hard drive 1TB
Windowa 10 (64 Bits)
It's torture seeing ETH just barely stay under $4k
CROSS THAT FUCKING THRESHOLD ALREADY
ooooh nice
You running this on your UnRAID system?
ah
The SWAG thing, how much ram does it use for you?
I was going to setup PiHole, Plex, SWAG, a backup of English Wikipedia
Yesterday I made the dumb mistake of doing my actual full OMV setup on a Raspberry pi 3a+ that I bought only for testing
45mb ouch
my 432mb of usable ram and 57% idle ram usage cringes at that
5-6GB of ram, how?
I've got loads of things running and somehow only use 200something mb
makes sense
It takes nearly 2 minutes to reload after changing any OMV settings
When I get some free time I'm going to try and clone everything over
hey uh, you have a firewall setup?
Software-side, with iptables or ufw or something similar?
ah
Still trying to wrap my head around the reverse proxy and VPN stuff
I have no firewall on the server and my router is doing its normal blocking of everything, I've heard using a VPN setup lets you connect form the outside witout using port-forwarding?
thought it sounded off
not UnRAID, OpenMediaVault, free bootleg with less easy-to-install plugins
I see, hm
I have the options to get openVPN or PiVPN and have to use SSH for configuring them or use Docker for it
Is UnRAID's VPN based on some other software?
setup guides seem... really easy?
install, have the port ready, scan qr code with phone?
The setup guide I'm reading is for OMV, the author says he wanted to make it similar to how its done with other setups are but his bash script is made in a way that makes it only work on his own PC
Money for convenience, a fair trade
Another question
Does SWAG interfere with other Apache/NGINX installs you have?
Say if I wanted a local-only website and one open to the internet, do I have to use different ports there or do the other components of swag + Cloudflare make it so I don't have to
ah
alrighty
only other thing I see is having double fail2ban running on my system
but that shouldn't hurt anything
I have an OMV-wide fail2ban installed but not running, yet. I have family members who routinely install malware on their systems
I'm probably thinking wrong but wouldn't the internet-available site be double fail2ban protected, once in Docker from SWAG and the other being OMV/server-wide?
hm, that explains it
I was surprised seeing how efficient Docker was so far, Docker on WSL2 is terrible in comparison
I think I'll just buy another raspberry pi and have that one be the internet-facing server
interesting
You know much about the probing bots and such online?
I made something in python using socket and I have an eval() statement around the packets received
Are they good enough to... idk, find out I have that in there and throw a rm -rf at my server?
thanks for the link
I'll try this out
What's an example of a ram brand which gives 32gb?
for 32 you would probably need 4x8
4x8?
Go 2x16
I was thinking of 2x32, if it exists.
you have the open slots for the future
2x32?
Yes
are you insane
It exists
What was your pc for again
Flight simulator and I'm just curious how did people get 64gb
2x32 or 4x16
Get 2x16
Crucial ballistix 3200 c16 of 3600 c16
why not
oh
eh Iād rather have open slots and sometimes itās more finnicky to get 4 sticks running with xmp
i feel even 32gb is a bit much
Flight sim reccomends 32
If he wasnāt playing that Iād say 16
yeah
the system (with a bunch of background stuff) uses about 3-6 gb
and most apps wont use more than 2 or 3
I have 32 in my system
1pc 32 will be bad, right?
Yes
Not neccessarily, but you will have less performance than 2x16
Single channel especially on ryzen hurts performance
2 is usually the best for gaming
instead of bottlenecking only 1
Yes, but in actuality the performance difference is ~5%
Most of the high end overclocking boards only have 2 lol
My view is if you're gaming, I would recommend 2x16. However, if you think you're going to need a serious amount of RAM in the future and can't fill it up now, go for the 1x32.
As of now, I think the reason why people get 64gb is either flexing or futureproofing.
99% of the time it's flexing
ramdisk, caching/buffer for video, heavy VM use?
Only if you have quad channel memory. Otherwise 2x16 would perform identically.
Thanks for correcting me. I'm probably still thinking about performance back in 2014.
It doesn't seem to make that huge of a difference though.
4 pcs would be the max, right?
Depends on what motherboard you have.
I have an idea. Pentium 1 with GPU and RAM at Pentium 1 level for Flight Simulator 2020.
when dummy stick cost 60$ of the actual ram it becomes the stupidest purchase ever
is it possible to take off those rainbow things?
you can turn them off with a program
not physically, but you can turn them off

Ram card brands don't matter that much, right?
they do
id stick with ballisitx imo
What would different brands do?
ive heard they are great overclockers and look nice
they could mix memory chips from different brands overprice it too much etc
Oh
I'm curious because I found a Gskill Ripjaws DDR4 32gb ram card which seems to be cheaper than the Corsair Vengeance 32gb ram.
Often the brands are only in charge of aesthetics and warranty
Consumer ram production is still done only by Samsung, Micron, and Hynix
If cl, rank, and mhz is the same, and people online are reporting similar die type, they're probably identical sticks underneath the plastic cover
Oh
Hmph, the RTX 3070 I see which is available is expensive, more expensive than the competitor's RTX 3080 from same brand.
wher
I'm searching in online shops from our country, different, both are legit but the ZOTAC GAMING RTX 3070 available seems overpriced but hey, it's available. The ZOTAC GAMING RTX 3080 being sold in another shop is out of stock though but cheaper than the former.
probably a discontinued model
the tuf 3080 non oc was like 700 but was discontinued
still that price i think
The shop which sells that overpriced GPU seems to overprice their GPUs like an RTX 3060 there would be a price of RTX 3070 in the other.
some 3060s cost more than 3070
Oh, but why?
manufacturers setting that price because nvidia sells them the chips for too much and because they can bc of high demand
Oh
DDR5 will be released at Q3 2021, what do you guys think about it?
Meh... I'd rather stick with DDR4
And what does f stand for in the intel? Like 11900f?
no integrated gpu
Why is windows update taking so long
DDR5 is said to be faster while using less power than DDR4.
I'm still on DDR3... DDR4 is still gonna be a massive upgrade for me
Early DDR5 will suck, just like early DDR4 and early DDR3
expect sad-looking 3200-3600mhz cl16 DDR5 until mid-2022
Theyre already hitting 5k+ at the engineering sample wdym
engineering sample, yes
early consumer ram always sucks though
There were loads of 1866 and 1600mhz DDR4 kits early on
engineering samples hit 4266 but most people today are still buying 3000/3200mhz too
if i had 2 hdmi 3090s would that mean i could hook up 4 monitors total
not that i would ever find or afford 2 3090s just curious lol
Each GPU can take 4 monitors, so I believe you'd be able to hook up 8 monitors total
Power consumption would be insane Iād imagine
Well, I've seen dual PSUs being used for dual 3090s
And I'm talking dual 1600W PSUs no less
@brave field @supple walrus this is a 10/10 headphones

Oof
the usecase... I don't get it
ew
i'll stick with xm3

Can Any of you guys help me with the cheat engine
Hi
Hey
What is the xm3?
amazing headphones
and expensive
guys help i accidentally changed the wrong parameter on youtube
with the inspect tool
and i changed the fucking code
someone help
i just wanted to change my subscribers to 69
a u d i o p h i l e
refresh page
won't work
the changes are still there
its not on the channe;
channel
its in the code
Yo, HD 660S headphones what a great pair of headphones. Wish I could hear them at some point. And funny enough all of that is cheaper than a single pair of HD800S
I been happy these past years with my K7XX's and Fostex T50RP Mk3's. Even if they are on the considered "Low End" heh
oh ya for sure. I bet those HD650's are nice
Would DDR4 become obsolete at mid 2022?
What amp
U already picked them but talked about mx3
Updating windows from 1809 to 20h2 its still 99% after 6 hours
Is it meant to be this slow?
1809 is buggy for me and one thing for gta is not working
@jovial tideYou could have downloaded from microsoft update catalog manually too.
What its just stuck at 99%
Microsoft support say i need to shutdown my pc and open browser
@frosty vortex was just some strange 502 errors. Do you understand hostnames vs domains? I can connect to SMB from most of my systems with \\hostname, but on two systems I have to use \\hostname.local or it doesn't work
Shouldn't be that slow sheesh
Ye
should i just buy a ps5 or a $650 pc?
PC is more versatile obviously, but a PS5 will likely give a better gaming experience than whatever PC $650 buys you
On the other hand, games are cheaper(can be free) and more varied on PC
If you're buying soon, go with the PS5. <$900 PCs are terrible value right now since budget GPUs don't exist
im prob gonna just buy at like summer or even fall
I'd be surprised if Nvidia made a viable $200-$230 GPU and it was easy to purchase and in stock consistently before 2022
ps5
or xbox for that backwards compatibility
im a a sony person but i cant lie the backwards combattibillity is sexy af
ah
I've always used it before, just was trying hostname out for the first time
twas yesterday, happened to a bunch of people near where I live with the same ISP
weird stuff, all sites using cf were slow or blocked completely
Still needs help with Windows update
You might need the Windows Update Assistant
It does... something that helps get around the issues the built-in update system has (and of course leaves behind files and services when you uninstall it so you're forced to continue to get updates)
Its worked well for me twice, give it a shot if you haven't@jovial tide
oh, with the assistant? ouch
probably won't do much but run sfc /scannow and the DISM commands, and clear out the update cache
Tryint now what microsoft support said, its working on updates but idk what
I kinda mess up in one place but we will see
tfw the tool works better than whatās built-in
new icon change?
i need help
me imagies on files wont load
everything is like that
someone please help
@lunar reef file explorer->view tab->options->view tab
uncheck "Always show icons, never thumbnails" if the box is checked
where is view tab
then the others in the sequence, the options button at the end and then the view tab of that menu
you'll need to click on the view tab at the top
yup
ok now what
uncheck that
anytime, friend
now i have a question about gifs
it wont auto play on discord
this
i have to hover over it
for it to play
why is that
settings->accessibility->this thing
happy to have helped
:_)
Thats why people invent vidya gaems

rrrr
I don't know if I should disable SWAP for this
the software says its bad having swap on an SD card and every online reference says otherwise
Guys, if you buy a processor, what are the chances that it's fake or counterfeit?
One reason why I run some game servers on a RAM drive.
If we can have nas boxes why arenāt there any ram boxes?
Would be pretty neat if we got a ram farm of like 128 gb that could be work as regular storage even if it were temporary
Logitech G502 HERO
Razer DeathAdder V2
Roccat KONE AIMO
which one?
U better try them before buying
G502 handles like a boat, deathadder is impossible to claw, and Roccat build quality is eh in my experience.
So for FPS? None of the 3
Used to a semi-pro CS:GO player. Death adder is my go to. But I have big hands so keep that in mind
Isnt the hero is the one having a lot of issues with the clicks?
The ergo of the death adder fits my hand perfectly
has discord changed the font?
No
on web browser
i have the g502 hero
its
i also think thats the most popular gaming mouse
No thats the lightspeed equipped logi, the ones thats wireless
Logitech basically exceed omron spec and the switch literally oxidate overtime
Happy with my g403
Corsair ironclaw is good
Itās what I use and I havenāt had a single issue with it
Not to many buttons
Wireless
Long af battery life
Bluetooth
oh GDI... I keep forgetting my mouse's name triggers the language filter
Hey yall is anyone there good with phones? Like knows alot about them? Especially samsung now
What info are you looking for?
Try update it
I Got it brand new yesterday
is do not disturb on?
Yes, worth keeping it up to date

I'll be sleeping if it takes too long
Its updated
YO HOLY DUCK THIS IS LOUD
Okay
This
Is louder than my bluetooth speaker what
nice
Draccoon š§
There has to be some difference, besides who wouldn't want to use super fast storage like this?
still has doodoo randoms
Qdepth so high its basically on weed
Real world its basically gonna be nvme gen 3 level.

I should probably order those Razer ARGB controllers š
Youre gonna stuck with synapse protocol and synapse only.
Honestly i would go for an asus aura protocol compatible atleast outside of their own protocol or even openRGB.
Corsair>
^
But I already use all Razer peripherals and use AuraConnect to sync my Aura to Chroma...
So being stuck with Chroma protocol to me isn't a bad thing. I really like Chroma.
Yeah, each input can be controlled individually too which I really like.
If I use an Aura one, then my peripherals are snookered and if I AuraConnect it in, then well, it only shows as a single device.
Also, rgb.net is able to tap into Synapse too, as well as Corsair, Aura, etc.
Though yeah, preference for Synapse here. I have to install iCUE though so I can tell my RAM to leave it to Asus Aura to control its lighting.
Though will have 4 software installed for that stuff. Razer Synapse (main), Asus Aura (motherboard and GPU), Corsair iCUE (RAM, but has motherboard option), Lian Li L-Connect (case fans and rgb cables, also has ARGB header control option)
I only have 1
Logitech gaming software
I can control motherboard RGB from the bios
And my fans can be controlled by the Coolermaster controller which is programable so I don't need its software installed or running
I'll be using game integrations so having it all in Synapse would be best for me.

The findings have been shared with the Wi-Fi Alliance, following which firmware updates were prepared during a 9-month-long coordinated disclosure period. Microsoft, for its part, released fixes for some of the flaws (CVE-2020-24587, CVE-2020-24588, and CVE-2020-26144) as part of its Patch Tuesday update for May 2021. Vanhoef said an updated Linux kernel is in the works for actively supported distributions.
But the thing i wonder with this is:
According to Vanhoef, the issues stem from "widespread" programming mistakes encoded in the implementation of the standard, with some flaws dating all the way back to 1997. The vulnerabilities have to do with the way the standard fragments and aggregates frames, allowing threat actors to inject arbitrary packets and trick a victim into using a malicious DNS server, or forge the frames to siphon data.
Does this mean manual DNS overrides can be a fix?
Doesn't seem the easiest to exploit
Thats kinda my issue with most exploit news nowadays
its so hard to pull by script kiddies, its basically
"youll need to plug in the hacked up flash drive to the mainframe"
this demonstration video is cool, but the first attack seems very cumbersome
you have to infect the server, have a copy of the page ready, and get the user to connect to a clone of the network
If someone wants to do it, it'll get done, but it doesn't seem easy enough to warrant any sort of emergency update to fix it
third one is interesting and seems practical
So what happens if user connect
I knew I should've bought PC at least last January...
normal users like us don't have to be worried, but large organizations/offices with sensitive data need to be prepared.
Most of those who have massive NDA locked file servers usually also have security contractor or a dedicated IT wing.
If they have neither, the CEO should not be surprised of any cyber leaks.
They might be randomising mac addresses each time they connect. It was on by default on my phone
@jovial tide I mean yea, open source softwares are the way to go these days, but even those still can be vulnerable
everything can get exploited
frankly speaking ,everything that is connected to internet is not safe
and not privacy-friendly :(
who knows, im sure there are many 0days actively being exploited right now, and they may not even be known for months or years, it's really hideous.
bruh i just found out i was using mouse accel for over 5 years :/
now it just feels weird when i dont use it
managed switch :X
oof
I just have seen and had people I know who do a lot of networks have such bad bad luck with managed switches.
a tech department at a school they can't keep the things running for more than three years before they fail. When they can keep the unmanaged switches going for near a decade +
this is also true
Is there a way I can tunnel traffic from my PC through an SSH server but have a custom HTTP header on the traffic between my PC and the SSH server?
I found this https://github.com/proxytunnel/proxytunnel, It can send custom headers but it's used to connect to a destination server via proxy. I think you can use it with SSH tunnels but I don't know how
why do you need a http header for a SSH server
to get around some ISP restrictions
I use a vpn that support split tunneling
VPNs are also not allowed
proxy tunnel looks like a viable option, but you will need to start ssh on the server and setup redirects from 443 to 22
blocked, i guess. it's not illegal or anything
i have no idea. I doubt they've blocked proper VPNs because no one pays for those here. This is also not on my connection so I can't test either. They just say it's blocked
yeah that's pretty much what I've read as well. I'll take a look at nginx too, thanks
was kinda hoping to not have to pay for a VPN though
Try proton
the vpn i use is free for 15GB a month lol
and u can create a custom plan and pay like a dollar or two for one country of your choice
why it says in my friend list just ' show profile
i want to invite him to the game
depends on the game
How does that work? If I'm hosting a VPN, wouldn't it be also restricted because the VPN connects to the internet through the same ISP?
Windscribe, I'm guessing? I kind of want to figure out this tunneling thing but that's what I'll go with if I can't
@strong saffron yes.
Is there an easy way to get aria2 or curl to download files from a public Google drive share? I try to get a direct download link but it always ends up downloading the website itself rather than just the file
Wha
You swap drive for docs and it works?
Oh huh
I'm gonna try that when I get home
These new discord highlights for example #gta-news looks gross
i prefer the old version
Tomorrow I get to argue with iCUE again.
Anyone using Corsair Commander Pro?
If yes, please DM me once. I need to suggestion regarding that
Don't have one but i was thinking of buy one
Get the Squatnik Hoodies here: https://www.weslav.com/collections/squatnik-suit
Programmer Boris is here! I had to get some floppy disks and a new drive to finish this video so it took 3 whole weeks to finish. But final product is better than ever!
In this video I am teaching to code in a very easy programming language - Python. Python is great...
uhm
Is it worth buying?
depends on your use
for some of us is essential since u can control pretty much everything and Icue is a good software
Yeah but i just have a corsair radiator with two fans. Should i spent on that just to control the rgb?
for me i wanted it mainly to control my fans since my mobo controls sucks
lol
is it an AIO that supports icue? @crisp spoke
Yep
oh cool then u can control your fans with that
and u can get a fan with it's controller from corsair
Let's see. Planning to get one today.
My case fans all connect to a single hub from Lian Li, which then uses an argb header. I probably need more usb2 headers though. :(
Is it GTA related or just general tech?
There are no PC only voice chats on this server.
Also you have the PlayStation role not PC role.
Urgh, not looking forward to having another argument with Asus Armoury Crate and Corsair iCUE
š I have armoury crate but to be honest i don't like the armoury create. It has potential but it doesn't gives you the full potential to use them.. looking forward to try iCUE
So, I've got iCUE somewhat there with managing my motherboard and GPU RGB... It doesn't do the ARGB headers, and it doesn't do half of the lighting on the GPU (wat?)... but for those ARGB headers, I'll be using a Razer ARGB controller anyway
(and then with that Chroma controller in there, I'll also be using ChromaControl to pull from iCUE to Synapse, to have all RGB in one place)
Well i don't think iCUE will be able to control anything which was not made by Corsair. If there's anything that can give me the same result which I'm expecting from commander pro I'll take that
Basically i want that just so that my radiator fan color and rear fan color syncs together and doesn't make my CPU look like a rainbow š
Asus motherboards integrate with iCUE, and so do Asus GPUs (however RGB support is flaky)
So If i get an Asus Strix motherboard and i want to pair it with corsair AIO and corsair fan. I don't need the corsair commander pro to manage my rgb. Is the right?
So things not made by Corsair aren't automatically ineligible for iCUE control. Asus partnered officially with Corsair for it, but for other brands there's probably third party solutions to drag them into iCUE.
For example there's ChromaControl being developed atm which will take my Asus and Corsair RGB and plug it into Razer Synapse.
@silent mason can you please clarify this for me. If this works out i can save some money
As for your individual case, probably worth asking that in the Corsair server as there'll be people there much more knowledgeable than me on the nuances of Asus and iCUE
Thanks for the idea. Lets see
Oh
Sure, a good CPU and RAM is also important, but the GPU is responsible for what the game looks (and feels) like with more FPS.
Also, a good motherboard is important.
GPU is also responsible for mutli tasking?
I don't play AAA games on laptop. Just want it for livestreaming and editing videos without any hiccups
If you want to stream and edit, I suggest looking at upgrading your RAM.
2x8 is a good start. 2x16 is more than enough.
Ok
Also, I suggest looking at 3.2 GHz and above.
Alright
guys if you owned a high end gpu would you sell it while the prices/demand is up?
downgrading to a lesser gpu
im kinda considering it
right?
I'd be sure I bought my replacement prior to selling it
$2500 for a $700 3080? that too
im pretty sure i could get like atleast 1.3 for mine
thats 300 more then what i paid for my whole rig

i feel like i might regret it tho
if the prices never drop
What gpu is it?
5700 xt
They'll HAVE to drop sooner or later
very asked for mining gpu
way more depending on the buyer
I dont know about that
i would even be okey with 800 the card was like 400 when i bought it
consumer moment
You 100% will make a big profit if you set up an auction
but having something to use in the meantime might be an issue
i still got my old 1070
no where near as powerfull but its enough for most games i play
a used one sold for $1600 yesterday
yea im totally gonna try my luck

most of the gpus get bought by huge mining companies so they dont really care much about prices
no wounder the prices are going to the roof
rip people who try to build a decent rig
If I were rich I'd buy a bunch of nice GPUs and just destroy them all on YouTube
Rake in that monetization money
it seems most of these ebay purchases are individuals who refuse to set up a bot to buy for them rather than mining farms
You always see "bots are shady"->"I got my card on ebay for $3000" comments from people but never complaints from the mining farms
ebay is my go-to
their customer service team and it being a toxic place for sellers makes it unfairly safe for the buyer
get a bit nervous trying to sell old parts there, scamming a seller as a customer is far too easy
i mostly do business with people i know
but i guess ebay is neat if you wanna get rid of stuff but usually quite toxic
I got everything synced up to iCUE... but I need to get Project Aurora...
that's quite concerning
me
my shitbox pc arrived so i can start building a server
not sure which OS to use now
Don't pick Windows
Debian-based distros (Ubuntu server, maybe?) seem to have the most support since they're both easy to install and use
@brave field i actually just downloaded popOS
Is that a good one since it's based on Linux
System came with windows 7 so im stressing now to test the thermals
Haven't used Pop! really, but it looks fine to me. I hear that one a lot when people talk about gaming and such, it might have a bit of extra stuff installed and running that wouldn't be useful for the server parts of your system
I think I'd go for something cut down a little more, they're talking about GameHub and having high-power graphics switching apps and their alternative to the Google Play Store and such on their site, and you might have some oddities with it encrypting your OS partition as part of the install process
Probably something like Lubuntu or Xubuntu if you don't want to start off headless and don't want to dedicate too many resources to the desktop environment. Pop's description doesn't really say much about being more user-friendly (well, it does say it, but nothing seems to say why it would be so) than those two, and those two will already feel pretty familiar to a Windows user.
Which one do u prefer
I mainly want to use it as a file server and need to setup a nextcloud
Maybe in future block ads with it and make plex server
Installed pop now to experiment how nextcloud even works then will probably using another distro or TrueNas
Since unraid cost a lot
Note FreeNAS/TrueNAS is based on BSD rather than the normal Linux kernel, not sure how much that will change exactly, but that could impact something
I'm using OpenMediaVault as an alternative to TrueNAS, its not as polished but its been really nice to use
Yes I'm considering openmediavault as well
You can't get a huge amount of help online since they've changed drastically from OMV4 to OMV5 but you get a pretty good package overall, useful plugins, and you can control most of the same stuff you'd be using in TrueNAS
Its VERY lightweight
I have it and 3 docker containers running on a Raspberry pi and its using just under 300mb of ram
Wow
Two websites, a wiki page, a samba share, FTP share, backups, temperature monitor web frontend, Microsoft's RDP, everything of the sort
It uses NOTHING and leaves your entire system to the containers and plugins and programs you want to run
That's sweet
Btw i found a sticker for Windows 7 serial number on it
Wrote it in my main pc and worked :pepeJam:
Nice, hope they never change or remove that I've activated 6 systems with Windows 7 codes
It said that it's registered to my Microsoft account now
any version converts to its digital license equivalent instantly, its really handy
here's what base XFCE looks like if you were interested
menus, titles, windows, all work identically to Windows 10 and LXDE, the only bloatware here is its Snap Store, Pidgin, and LibreOffice (they didn't include a partition manager, weirdly)
I've heard a lot about Nextcloud and almost used it
but I don't really know much, nah
but I don't really know much objectively, nah
Maybe u never needed it
I need something that can automatically back up my devices
Especially the phone
And i want it to back them uo in their original folders
I think MiXplorer can back up your phone to anything. It connects to FTP, samba, and cloud services, but I don't know what other features Nextcloud may have that makes it better to use for backups than a normal Samba share.
Im currently using syncthings on my main computer to sync these folders but it's still janky
Duplicati might be useful, but I don't know what client makes sense to go with it.
hm
Are you using a GUI to exclude certain paths or manually do backups? ~~If you have something like Git Bash or WSL installed, you might be able to have it schedule a normal Linux rsync backup in the background for you, no fiddling around with the GUI at all, for the computer.~~I misread, oops
rsync only cares about files that change too, so it shouldn't hurt storage either
I add the folder that i want to sync on my phone then setup permissions and recovery method
Then i have to approve it on the server which is my pc then specify a folder for it and setup everything
U have to do this for every freaking folder
I was hoping that it's like any sync apps on your phone that it automatically detects photos
Nextcloud presumably does that .... Like hosting your own cloud service
ah
It's how it backup is the issue
After some struggling i made nextcloud kinda works and it's doing what i want ish.... Will continue testing tomorrow
UNRAID A LOTTT
I have to buy hard drives and nearly broke
Can i try it before buying? @frosty vortex
This sounds promising
Is unraid a subscription or one off cost?
That's not too bad then
My system costed me 30$
When you were saying it's stupidly expensive I was expecting like $500 a month.

But $60 one time charge, that's no big deal to me.
Thing is
Other solutions are free like TrueNas
If it beats the pants off the free solutions I don't mind paying.
Yeah im trying to justify it and settle on one solution
It's hard to figure out and endup up in trying them all
Thinking of installing proxmox and make vms for truenas and unraid
cries profusely in Ryzen
Yeah but iirc still quite finicky.
no, for virtual machines
like, 2 computers and all
ah i see
I genuinely think to run a 5900X with 32GB of ram and 2 3060Ti
Duplicacy has DRM and annoys you if you change hardware š¤¢
Oh btw
@frosty vortex @brave field does any one of you ever heard of MQA?
A deep dive into MQA, and its problems.

No idea, watching now
vorbis and flac are my favorites right now, I'm not someone who cares too much about audio but I will check this out
'
but it has parity drive and u can use two of these... why u think it's not reliable?
What's the GPU?
It's... ok, especially considering current GPU prices.
4gb ram
4gb vram

4gb vram is decent
Ah
Well yeah, I wanna get some recommendations for a gaming laptop for a friend
The pictures are the specs for a Acer Nitro 5 so
It would have been a little expensive for the hardware, but with the current market prices it's a good option.
Alright these are the final specs for the Acer Nitro 5 for £899.99
My friend is also looking at a Lenovo Legion 5P with a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 and AMD Ryzen 7 4th Gen
8GB DDR4 RAM + 256GB SSD
Lenovo is for £849.97
You can't even get a desktop with a 2060 at that price, wow (though a 3060 fits instead, its hard to get)

i'd probably go for that and put the saved money towards a usable amount of storage
My friend has the sole objective of playing FiveM on it, would that be good enough or no?
Both laptops are overkill for fivem
The second is just more overkill at a lower price
Alrighty
Would you have any other recommendations in terms of laptops that are similar to the Lenovo or no
Gotcha
Oh, right
buildapcsalesuk
Unless that place has decided to stop existing like the EU one
Alright well the Lenovo is out of stock unsurprisingly
How good are the Acer Nitro 5's specs for the price listed?
I'm not great with laptop prices, but I think its alright with how bad things are right now

I can get the Acer Nitro 5 for my friend tomorrow too so
The Lenovo, god knows when that'll be in stock
I think a desktop system with these specs would be around £460 or so without the monitor, so not the worst for a laptop
Any others in a similar price range with an RTX GPU? A 2060 is a noticeable jump up from a GTX 1660 ti if he plays something other than GTAO/FiveM
RTX ones are the ones mainly over 1k and that's the most they want to spend atm
Let me look on Amazon and PC world
@brave field How does this look?
RTX 3060
Giant step up
worth considering, though its not great compared to the 2060 one that isn't in stock right now
That one is a good choice
Its better than the nitro, and not hugely more expensive than the first Lenovo one that is out of stock
So at this point, which one do you think is the best for the price
Probably that MSI one purely on specs
The Legion's £100 increase isn't worth it for 2060->3060 and the 1660ti one costs the same while being weaker
It sucks that storage gets sacrificed but that's easy to upgrade or replace
I vote for the MSI one, unless something better turns up
@brave field Are there any key difference between intel and AMD processors?
Anything that would make em pick one of them over the other?
Nothing huge for 99% of use cases
Some things that do have a large difference and are much faster on Intel are PS3 emulation, Android app development, Bluestacks (which should never be used), and things that rely on AVX512. I don't know of anything that is faster on AMD processors because of a factor other than its specs.
t
hi guys, whatās the cheapest gaming laptop and gaming pc i can get thatās really worth the money. would really appreciate the help, thanks
solid, thanks bro
btw u planning for long hour with battery?
yeah
currently my nitro5 dont really hold its bar without AC adapter
icic
Classic ādid you try turning it off and turning it on againā solution
Arrows no longer facing diagonally on the Recycle Bin icons for this upcoming update.
but why
that picture is a sarcasm made by Telegram messenger on twitter against whatsapp
but wow, finally windows is getting rid of those old ass icons
More colorful than plain Yellow on every folder.
so, my pc is pepegaing again
i got a windows update, and it downloads when i shut down
But every time it tries i get "we couldnt complete the updates, undoing changes"
every single time
Try the update assistant
The assistant you download?
Openes that, said thanks for downloading the latest version of windows and all i could do was exit
hm
maybe clear out the update cache, wherever that is now
It might need to just redownload it all
But every time it tries i get "we couldnt complete the updates, undoing changes"
This gives me windows 8 nightmares
sometimes I don't believe reddit at all, no fucking way this is someone's first time
Wire management skills don't really have to correlate with building a pc.
they could just be a perfectionist and very organized
It still bothers me that 3000 series cards have the power connection on the front
like the wires?
Yeah
Thatās a sick pc though ngl
I can show my ugly one in comparison
This is an in-progress shot of mine.
I think we were just making sure the damn thing booted there before going back at the cables.
fucking hell, I hate my case now
some gamers
But yea, lots of RGB in my case.
I think those are good too but yeah Iām just not an rgb person
And I need another SL140 fan because the bloody twin 120mm fans just wouldn't fit at the bottom of my case. Got stuck to the bloody cable hiding flaps...
corsair rgb is a bitch to manage but it does look pretty good in the end
And yes, the back fan is a 140mm, three 140mm fans at the top, and 4 120mm fans at the front.
Me with my all black no LED build
I think I am gonna rework my whole cable management when I get a new GPU
when i can get some money imma pay someone to custom loop and cable manage pc
too lazy to do it myself and its a sff case
I just installed the ITX standoffs for my secondary PC case.
idk
Also this is a non GTA stuff channel adxm

Everyday I cry
But yeah, main PC can be up to E-ATX (but it's just ATX I have, Asus ROG C8H WiFi motherboard), secondary is ITX only.
But Salty, for your GPU 8 pin cables and 24 pin motherboard cables, go Strimer Plus
Because then RGB
S2*
Even better
I am probably gonna fix all this when I get that 3080
Well I'm using a chonky Enthoo 719 myself.
But he can build two systems in one if he has the Elite/1000D (he also can with the 719, but let's just go big or go home at this point)
But yeah @kindred temple my case is gonna be housing an RDNA2 APU as well in the ITX section. So double computer.
Unfortunately my limitations can't be solved with a simple virtualisation
I need more simultaneous outputs than my GPU allows
It's a very weird setup that I can't exactly explain, but the dual PC setup is the easiest way to make it work basically.
U only need to cable manage your cables
U obviously know nothing about that
Sorry for being harsh but that must be fixed
working on that later
also your is not the harshed I heard before

try sfc/scannow
there might be a missing registry file
Because that's in-progress. We were just making sure the thing would boot first there.
@zealous pasture windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them
my pc seems to still be cursed
Tech tip: boxes are the best test bench @silent mason
Had I built it from scratch I would have done. But it was a prebuilt we were making some modifications to, so it came in the case already
Because I haven't changed the case, motherboard, CPU, or BIOS, warranty is still intact. For CPU and BIOS, if I contact the company who made it, they can authorise me to update the BIOS without voiding warranty.
for all those gta macro lovers, becareful
How can that effect it's users
did u run cmd as admin ?
Yes
This is a standalone executable that contains the following: the AHK interpreter, the AHK script, and any files it has incorporated via theĀ FileInstallĀ command. In this campaign, the attackers incorporate malicious scripts/executables alongside a legitimate application to disguise their intentions."
So basically kids
Because everyone write their own AHK scripts kekw
try dism
Or just copy from someone else's
or reset the pc with all data
Is rather just fuck this update
I had to reinstall windows not even a month ago because a corrupted windows install
Not gonna do it again
it happened with me too
check services .msc for something named wuauserv or somethin
wuauserv
I had to reinstall because windows didnāt like that I rm -rfād my ācorruptedā user folder
wha
@frosty vortex Ever heard of Sonarworks?
Parallels crashed when it tried to boot the windows partition, so when I actually tried to boot into it I got the dreaded ātemp account errorā
Couldnāt delete my user so I thought the next best thing was to try to delete it manually from macOS
@fervent graniteDoes macOS have the ~ directory and do you know what its supposed to be?
Everywhere I've looked, people have said it just represents home or a directory above it like with Windows, but for some reason the ~ on one of my installs is blank, and I have to manually go to the home directory instead
