I mean I would complain if my PSU burns my house down
G3, despite it having a few reports of smoking, is still a better one than some like BQ
oh wait, I just remembered where I actually got that FSP PSU from
I got it from one of my dad's old PCs
...he built that "old" PC in 2014/2015
that PSU is 7 years old
should I start worrying
Diablotek HWMonitor reading
Maybe not worry, and its still possible this issue has nothing to do with your PSU, but if you're paranoid, a new one won't hurt
7 years is fine for a good unit, but.....
Looking now, its missing so many protections...
it'll "hurt" my wallet
but save my dignity
I really really wanna hear about a way to know if my PSU is dying before it's too late
without playing with electricity of course
if you're able to find any sort of hint in HWiNFO at all regarding the voltages, it could be used to confirm or rule out one possibility
oh boy
the motherboard doesn't have voltage sensors
only CPU, RAM, GPU etc... have it
like what was dell f***ing thinking when they designed this PC
"We'll save 2 cents per 5 boards with this trick"
I mean ye, who needs safety
wE'Ve GoT dEll wArRaNtY
now I'll go to bed I guess
another day without my PSU burning my house yay
Have a great sleep
ey, thanks mate, good night if it's night for you as well
guys can you help with input lag
It exists, but very little on metal operation (directly from the device)
If youre running 60hz, its at 16-20ms at its worse.
i have like 100ms
i meaaan... it's in gta. but for real i didn't really get any help from gta chats. on desktop i have little lag, but on gta it's around 100ms
so if i could get help here
do an internet speed test
@jovial tide
He only owns PC, no cloud gaming subs afaik.
its input, not internet.
ah
whatever you're hiding, its super well hidden
Lol
I can't make out anything in the picture at all
Its just wires
ah
Yeah
I was bored one day and I build houses so I said f it and made a hidden wall for all my cables
Raytracing irl
what r ur guys thought on the lian li o11 cases
spec/airflow wise
Naaaa lmfaooo
Theyre okay, not exactly explosively good
Just, adequate.
they are more for looks
what about the corsair 5000d airflow cases
Theyre well.
I fix my own problem with the nightclub
corsair has really improved their case lineup recently
Before I changed my old hard drive from a Pavillion PC to an Omen Gaming Desktop, I did a sysprep of it before transferring, otherwise the computer will confuse that drive and gave me a BSOD.
I want one
Please don't tell me I have to fly to Japan to get one of these arcade machines

11gb left on my VMs drive
if platform.startswith(('darwin', 'AIX', 'cygwin')):
exit(code="buy me SSD or use at your own risk"```
would be nice for 1TB SATA SSDs to drop to $40 for an hour or two
could probably make do with an hdd until they do
Does macOS run decently on one?
also, I don't even know where or if I can get AIX and CygWin
but the docs listed them, so I put 'em in there. Guessing they're not actually relevant though.
Probably an extremely stupid question, but is there a usb 3.1 to internal sata adapter that allows an external ssd to be plugged directly into a motherboard sata port?
It's this SSD specifically:
https://www.costco.com/sandisk-extreme-1tb--portable-solid-state-drive.product.100527741.html
Oh fuck, it's an m.2 ssd connected to an m.2 to usb 3.1 adapter
I could break it down and get an m.2 to sata adapter.
It probably runs okay, apple hasn't used hard drive as a main storage device in a long time
except for base model imacs iirc
might feel a bit sluggish though depending on your hardware
Macs can run on either AMD, Intel, or Nvidia (discontinued)
But not anymore because theyre transitioning to arm

macs can still use nvidia egpu's
This is a huge problem for Hackintoshers if Mac switches to ARM.
Yeah but apple says that it'll continue supporting x86_64 for "years to come"
I think the supported nvidia gpu's are the gtx 680 mac edition and some quadro model
Mac is way behind when it comes to graphic cards
ah, my kinda place
I remember someone mentioned to me once that windows doesn't boot well on a hard drive. I've found that my computer takes ass ever to turn itself on and I often have to wait six to ten minutes after the boot screen for the computer's local profile sign-on screen to appear. How can/do I get Windows to boot on a M.2 / SSD when I pick one up eventually? Will it change the atrocious wait time since my disc often runs on 100% usage for about 5 minutes after startup?
mainly due to apple preferring amd cards and throwing nvidia out the window for some reason
they'll just show up as regular drives, so it's no different form using a hard disk
that is of course if your pc can use m2/nvme drives, a regular ssd shouldn't be a problem but you'll be surprised how big of a difference it makes
you could also try to minimise what windows is loads up on startup
I have two M.2 slots on my mobo and four ssd slots on the back of the case
I just wanna figure out how to cut the 100% disc usage because it slows my computer to a near halt upon loading, and I didn't pay $2600 and spend since October building this thing just to wait fifteen minutes for it to actually work
then again, I have one 2TB seagate HDD, and it has over 1.5TB of games and other files on it
Will purchasing more storage make a difference?
having more storage shouldn't affect performance
sad. I really gotta figure out the issue then. I also have to figure out why half the time my 9pin usb header doesn't work
half the time I turn on my computer with my corsair lighting node plugged into the mobo, the post screen tells me I've got a usb over current status, then it shuts itself off. Only way to use the PC is to jiggle the sata cables, let them hang loose, then hope it turns on next time
it's unplugged rn tho cuz I couldn't be assed. I just wanted to use my brand new PSU I got today
faulty cables maybe?
I'm not familiar with custom builds or even tower pc's in general as I've mostly stuck to laptops, the last pc I worked on was an old vista-era prebuilt
entirely possible, I bought a new lighting node that came bundled with some corsair light strips, it hasn't shipped yet though and I bought it on the 6th
I'm only familiar enough to manage to get by
but my current PC looks fucking killer
I plan on buying a ROG Ryujin and slowly phasing all my computer parts out to be ASUS and Corsair only
To accomplish that, I must buy two new RAM sticks, a new AIO, and a new keyboard
I have laptop questions
I have desktop answers, sorry bud 😦
It's fine
You know a Lotta shit about laptop's right
speak of the devil it just shipped out
I know my way around them yeah
what laptop's are cheap and that can run from 7:30 to 1:30 pm, without slowing down or getting really hot
shit, I forgot to clean my laptop's vents
Alternatively you should invest in a laptop cooling pad
Or no because that might cost a fuck ton
Ohhh shit, NVM that's not actually that expensive
laptops aren't really designed to run for that long
Ikr
What do you want to use it for?
My cousin and I use them for online school
Idk, my uncle has one, I'll ask him if it's a scam
You could try one of acer’s aspire line
The acer aspire netbook was my first laptop
all of my laptops have been dell
I am literally never laying my hand on another laptop again, I physically cannot. My old laptop has not been touched since I went to the coast
Wait until u get screwed by their chargers
all my dell batteries have gone wocky within the same year I bought the laptop
Hp could be better but I guess
My mom fucked up my lenevo laptop
Acer takes good care of cheap laptops
Growing up, all I had to game on were super shitty dell laptops that were overpriced for their quality. My first laptop when I was a youngin was so bad that one day, Roblox got an update and after that I couldn't play because my "graphics driver was out of date", when it wasn't. Poor laptop couldn't run roblox anymore
I’ve fucked up the family computer more times than I can count over the years
I've told my family to stay faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar away from my computer
it's a work of art, not a machine
Me!
Yes

It’s taught me a lot of stuff about computers though, I now manage all my family’s tech
I ruined my family's computer once but guess what
That forced them to buy a better one that can run games better :vampy:
Even though I've spent so many months and so many tears building computers, I still look up to my stepdad for assistance, since he spent most of his life in the army managing and performing maintenance on important computers and other fun things
lmao
I can't use emojis
I never had anything powerful enough to run games except for a few disc games
In fact we didn’t even get a 64-but machine until around 2010
I want to build my parents their own computers. My m's computer takes soooooooooooooooooo long to turn on because she has like tens of thousands of photos on it, and my dad does govt work and his laptop is ass and giving out on him. But idk if he could do his work on a custom pc cuz all his laptops have that big green "UNCLASSIFIED" sticker on em
Oh back in the day I didn't care much about pc
My psp was love
my friends and I went to the mall the other day, one bought a PSP and some games and the other bought a DSi XL
I bought a baja hoodie
Malls sells psp
I’ve still got my skinny psp
it was a game store that had a huge selection of old consoles
Omg
screen is broken but man that thing was awesome, had lots of movies for it
we all had a couple thousand in our account so we went spending
Damn
I remember getting my first 64 bit phenom CPU back in 08. Simpler time. Could get a top of the line vid card for 250$
lmao
But
I got my 2060 advanced for like 450
250$ back in the day used to worth more
that's true
250 is like, chump change now
this dude been typing goddamn
headed to bed, enjoy y'alls night aye?
That ATI HD 4870 served me well until I got a R7 270x at the time
Oh back in the day on my first built i got a 6850
Miss the ATI team before AMD bought them they kept being competitive with Nvidia on video cards
Lol laptops back then were all jokes
The only really competent laptop of the time were sony viaos
When I was a Middle School kid back in the day, I won a Slim PSP-2000, a Nintendo DS, and an Xbox 360 on Stacker.
I tried winning a Wii but I gave up on it.
My wii lives on
Super easy to mod too so I can play basically every game from my childhood
Hello guys I'm trying to build a cheap server for NAS and plex
Maybe hosting more stuff on it and i found this
Do u think it's good cus im not experienced with xeon
That's 120USD THO
You got access to ebay?
because iirc those xeon E5XXX are like pennies nowadays.

I cant say its a good deal, my dealings is with 2014-now xeons.
I checked intel page its 4/8 cpu
how to code
today is the day for graphics cards 🙂
Why?
Anyone got an idea of what bitrate should I capture my gameplay footage at?
Capture res being 1920 x 1080
Capture frame rate being 60
Just need to make sure the footage isnt grainy
How are you encoding the footage?
I think you can just about get the same quality from AV1 at half the bitrate of AVC
ok hold on, I'll just post my settings
GPU encoding
current bitrate is at 10K
but gets a bit grainy when there's a lot happening on screen
You're recording and not streaming?
yes I stream too but recording mainly, the problem's there in both cases
oh sorry
hold on
I recorded Valheim and the grainy footage problem didnt arise but with DMC its getting crazy
with all the effects on screen
For recording, you should be able to get better without having to mess with bitrate or any other settings just by swapping your current encoder for your GPU's HEVC encoder, or the AV1 one if you have an RTX GPU
might also say h265
I have it on GPU encoding the bitrate is the problem, dont know how much I should raise it by
for 1920x1080
I think I've missed something
You only have that ONE Nvidia option for encoding? No others that use your GPU?
Its not normal to only have that one option, and that one isn't great for recording at all, but is fine for streams
All the stuff in this channel is so confusing
All I see is GPU NWG JXS SJC SIX and stuff like that
yup only one on my system with 1660Ti, might have more options on my RTX 2060 system but I would like to record on the 1660Ti system
The encoders available are
stream encoder, default
nvidia h.264
x264
I am using the nvidia one
wow, that's strange. Update OBS if you can, there should be more options, and the missing HEVC one should be MUCH better than the h.264 option that's there.
try 20000 or 25000 for your recording bitrate then, and see if that looks better.
ok tyvm
bouta cop my 3080 strix today 🙂
they didnt drop fuck
i didnt even get one 😦
im in one rn
got a 3080 fe from it
you get any cards yet
imo the 3090 fe is the best one
the cooler is really beefy compared to the 3080 fe cooler
its 1500 before tax in states
some go up to 2.5l
2.5k
i got a 3080 for 700 before tax
planning on buying one selling it than building a custom loop
i kinda want a strix with an ekwb waterblock
i would sell the new card
deal with crappy graphics for a while but make a decent profit
could probably sell to a miner for 2x price lol
i can list my 3080 founders for 2 grand and i guarantee it will sell
you can sell that for 500-600\
i would do that and live on an igpu til neew cards release
im not a scalper but if i get a strix im selling my card for 2k
What the fuck storytime:
The forest caused all my games to crash on PS4 and the fix was reformatting my extended hard-drive and forgetting about playing The forest.
What the fuck storytime:
years ago I had to install java to play an unblocked version of minecraft. I don't know if it was the jar executable or if I downloaded a rogue software, but whatever it was it literally killed my pc's performance
something something story:
Hours ago I tried to install macOS twice and died
did you respawn at least?
nah, I'm super dead and even though I removed all the files I've worked with, I still have 9GB less than I had before
A virtualbox VM, of course on my legitimate mac hardware (I would never break Apple ToS) I own
9Gb less on the host after deleting all the VM's files
That's... really weird but then again getting macos to run on virtualbox is a pain, I barely got mavericks to run on it a few years back
The first time I got it to actually finish the install and boot, it was okay
I mean, aside from no audio, no ethernet, scrolling being reversed, horrendously slow everything, and a bucketload of resolution issues
changed nothing, reinstalled, and no work
something about the network adapter makes it die
scrolling being reversed
this is actually a feature
it's this setting right here:
I toggled that, reversed regardless 😦
I hate installing things
maybe someday
The first macos VM install was so difficult to do
why is there DRM on top of the DRM
timebomb in the installer? checks for the UEFI name, CPU name, board name? begging me to use internet?
oh, and not allowing people to get an installer without having a functioning mac. Sucks being someone with only one macbook, I guess
not to mention the ridiculous size of the os itself
how small can you make a linux distro?
Puppy Linux and DSL can run in CPU cache
like, how much of the kernel can i strip before it basically wont boot
my big sure iso is fucking 12.00 gb big
just have to add macOS checks in my python scripts
I was scrolling through PyPi and some module's description mentioned "Oh, this thing works in Windows, Solus, FreeBSD, Linux, and Android, but has the side effect of wiping someone's drive on macOS if you don't use this parameter"
but no way of testing if it works on macOS
not after that experience
macOS on a VM doesn't exist
this is mine rn
just 2 years of not many dll inserts

And i think mac has pretty much everything itll need in its lifecycle in that 12 gig
probably yeah, I mean the os works pretty much out of the box with all the apps it includes
whereas windows needs a few apps to become usable and then there's arch that's a fucking 1 year old that needs you to install everything for it
fair, though I really wonder how much of that 12gb goes towards making the OS work well
3.8gb for Windows' install.wim, but you can toss GIMP, 7zip, and VLC in there under 1gb
I guess it doesn't really matter because Puppy Linux is the best and everyone should use it because its both usable and tiny
Why would you use a slow SSD for your OS when you can run it all in CPU cache and ram? Why bother?
All other OSes are dead (unless you need actual third-party software support).
Can you even run steam in puppy?
you could actually skip the entire installer and image install.wim manually using dism
Steam in Puppy kinda exists
at first glance the iso just looks like your standard root directory + installer.app
your finder looks so usable
You have the file path displayed at the top
the table setup actually shows useful info like modify date and size
even if the VM worked not having that was frustrating me
I took a while to get it setup but using stock finder was just horrible, especially having used windows for so long
I literally had to google directories because I never knew where I was in the system
and the fact that "macintosh hd" is hidden by default didn't help much either
I hadn't felt that helpless before
FreeBSD without a desktop environment? fine
Trying to do anything other than open Safari on macOS was a pain though
You could've tried to play a game of chess
The whole point of a file explorer having a GUI is to make it easy to dig around and find files
but you can't find files because they're both hidden and in paths that are hidden
and no amount of "get info" will ever give you relevant info
at least not as nice as windows's file info pane is
And I prefer the minesweeper that comes with Xubuntu over macOS chess
apparently chess is considered a "protected application" so you have to through a few hoops to delete it
yikes apple, you're starting to get into the Onedrive and Skype UWP territory with that one
YourPhone.exe too
yourphone legit is useless to anyone with an ios device, microsoft should let you delete it
"We know you won't use this, but we're going to embed it as deep into the OS as possible"
useless on ios and Google is already trying their hardest to replace all of its features for Android using Chrome itself
and google is doing a good job at it?
of course
Every time Microsoft tries something, there's a hundred alternatives that work better at the cost of making you install them
Firefox has plenty of features yourphone has, KDE connect too
they seem convenient but I'm put off by how they're set up
Google is.. well, Google. Microsoft's can't be uninstalled, which is a red flag. I don't use KDE daily, Mozilla's things are cool but I don't really use their products often enough
for me I just don't trust microsoft with keeping my data safe if I were to use yourphone
especially considering how great of a job they do in handling users' privacy on windows /s
ahh yes
highest level enterprise solutions get the option to send just minimal data to Microsoft on an hourly basis
I don't trust Microsoft or Google, same
probably unfounded skepticism sometimes, but if a product makes you fight to opt-out of data sharing, I want out. If that fight takes more than 4 minutes, I'm gone.
I have just a tiny bit more confidence in google as their cloud services are actually quite good, but yeah unfounded skepticism definitely describes me
it's why I was so hesitant to use passwd managers for so long, and even now I haven't completely migrated all my logins to bitwarden
closed-source password managers "powered by state of the art cloud services"
could never go with one that has mass appeal, seems far too risky
good target for someone malicious and the end user has no control over what is saved, where its saved, and how? euuurgh
ironically, seeing all of lastpass's adverts drove me away from it, and that as well
really sucks that your options seem to always come down to:
Use google/microsoft, but your info is getting sold
Use random company that suddenly is loved by everyone and is profitable and risk it getting compromised
Use your own solution and have no redundancy
Then when there's something that seems like an exception like ProtonVPN/mail, bitwarden, or others, now I feel the need to search for the catch
I guess you just have to bite the bullet at some point
with apple for example I've got my phone connected to them, my mac, my ipad and my watch, and there's really no way around that
sadly so
Everyone gets tied that ONE big company ecosystem in some way or another, only way to at least have something be reliable and not lack useful features
Google, Microsoft, Apple, I guess Facebook has enough different services to count
but man does facebook feels ancient now, I mean at least google and microsoft provide something other than consumer products
facebook has basically nothing and has somehow survived the test of time
Bitwarden supports a lot of export input of many password managers
and yes, this include the closed source ones like NordPass and LastPass.
literally took me 5m to set up shop and import to bitwarden from LastPass
immediately jumped ship when they decide to do the stupid device type clause
Like bitch
@queen crescent you probably got one of that trolling virus
or..... that's a vbs script
Is windows?
Fuck us right
That's 3070 level of hash on lower price and power consumption
Fuck you nvidia

3060 is such a bad value for gaming when you can spend 70 more on a 3060ti and get so much more performance
and theres only like 2 cards that are 330 bucks lol
Vibing with integrated graphics
Already more than a "lunch money"
But yeah, dangerously close. 1 rebate and its basically no brainer
12 gb of ram lol
Pointless driver bypass
ETH should only be 3-10c more profitable at best vs mining Conflux on the 3060
I guess its cool to challenge yourself but this won't really make a difference in people buying the cards or not
aaaaaaand deconfirmed. The article was updated, and no, they didn't get past any limiting, the entire report was just based off of ONE picture of a bunch of GPUs that could be used for any workload, and the person who took the picture already had said it was Conflux before the original article was written.
does anyone of you know about building gaming computers on a tight budget?
How tight?
Buy a dell optiplex and put an ssd and used graphics card in it
Same thing still a office pc into a gaming pc
dont
Build a pc gaming laptops aren't worth it
And you can just use steamlink when youre away
Ok
hi
hello
Or you shouldnt, split your budget for a good PC and a decent typing laptop.
If you have neither imo that shouldve been the way.
maybe a laptop with igpu on sale
and use geforce now or steamlink for portable gaming since gaming laptops are too heavy and scream gamer too much
Or dont, stop procrastinating at school
if you need games, flash games are started to be ported for html work
sooooo
Those cables. Route them better 😩
Damn I just want to say your work is incredible to all pc players
Meanwhile…
This post has “greasy controller” written all over it
KFC took that video of someone cooking meat on their CPU to a whole new level
amd just had a drop
B a l a n c e
what is this
folding at home/gomezpeer/something of the sort?
not ethereum since that isn't possible on a PS4 anymore, not a renderfarm either for the same reason
oh, bait image. Source website's creator is laughing about it on twitter, and took the original site down
ahh, so high-level trolling.
I do wonder why else they have this many PS4s in one place, though. Lots of effort to anger some twitter users.
no actual, foull-on NAS solutions, nop
Just Windows IIS and making an FTP server in it
I've been thinking of rigging up my house with whole home ethernet, utilizing the existing coax entries for it. I have everything figured out except where to place the main switch. Should I place the switch inside the room where my cable modem is located, or should I do an outside PoE solution? The modem is located in the far corner basement of the house.
To clarify, I'd be running the ethernet down the same paths as the coax, and hooking it up to a combo coax-ethernet wall plate like this:
I've already attempted a MoCA type solution and failed, apparently Comcast doesn't like MoCA if I'm not wasting money on their shitty rental.
First problem: this isn't a gta chat. Second problem: it's against discord's ToS to discuss glitches in detail.
ok then...
no you don't
And he's been muted
Mods here are pretty responsive ngl.
im getting sick of this nvidia driver issue with gta v
So, going back to my previous question, is it better to set up my centralized network switch near my modem, or utilize a weatherproof PoE switch mounted outside?
What benefits are there to the outdoor solution?
It's in a more centralized spot
If I were to go with the indoor solution, the ethernet would have to all be run from a corner of the house
I'd prefer indoor + unmanaged switch if needed
unless its ACTUAL waterproofing, not IP67 or the like
Gotcha, I guess it's better to have it easily accessed inside
Probably a good idea to have a stud-mounted rack
@brave field What kind of strategy should i do to make a PFSense box?
I need a more reliable way to route the connection around my house that isnt a passive switch.

same
Does anyone here know how to fix a weird wifi issue?
Can you describe your issue?
So basically, im able to use my wifi just fine but overtime my wifi just dies and my pc automatically disconnects from the internet itself and decides to not want to connect.
My PC keeps saying it cant connect to my wifi but it recognises that it's there.
At this point, I'm thinking it's my wifi card itself that's the issue but its able to connect to my hotspot just fine so I dont really know what to.
I've moved the wifi card to another slot, flushed out my dns, resetted my network etc but it doesnt want to seem to work
This issue kind of happened after a windows update so I dont know if the update itself has fucked it or it's another issue but I dont really know. All I know is that my card doesnt want to let my wifi through
Windows update includes driver updates if the setting isn't manually turned off, its possible they gave you a trash version. Try updating it through device manager, and then the manufacturer's own website.
Your hotspot is stable, but your home connection is not. Is there a large difference in how the PC connects to each, maybe the hotspot being 2.4ghz wifi and the home one being 5ghz, or both with the same SSID?
With the drivers, it says the best drivers are already installed
And I'm assuming my home connection is stable because every other device is working perfectly fine
Anything on the adapter's manufacturer's site? Both the one who distributed it and the one who made the actual adapter and its PCB
I'll check now
Right I've gone onto the website and I've downloaded a driver for them manually just to see if that is the issue
I dont know what to do with the files and where to put them but here we are
Download an iso for a decent-looking Linux distro too while that's happening. Can eliminate Windows + drivers being the issue by not using Windows or that driver entirely, with a live USB
er, site should have instructions on how to install the driver you need
Im not gonna lie i have no idea where im looking lmao
this website is confusing me out
well, that's unofficial
the official site seems to not exist at all, Microsoft has an entry in their update catalog and Microsoft support reps seem to recommend this site despite it claiming to be unofficial
Microsoft's is here: http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=AR9287
Ah wait, they just give you the .inf files, no executables
you need to install the driver manually in device manager
Don't choose to search online for a driver, choose to manually install the driver from a file or disc
er
bottom one
Yeah ive installed the drivers
Is it behaving any better or will you have to wait a while?
Its still not allowing me to connect to my wifi
should i restart my pc quickly and see if that fixes things?
Just an android device
Download a Xubuntu (better compatibility) or Puppy linux (much smaller) iso and RUFUS, and transfer both to your PC using a USB cable if its still not working, then load up the ISO in RUFUS, make a bootable USB, and then boot into the USB when you next restart your PC and choose "Try Xubuntu/puppy"
Testing in another OS can be useful for finding if the issue is the card coincidentally deciding to die around the same time as that update, or if the issue really is just Windows or a driver
website
Puppy linux
based
https://www.puppylinux.com/index.html#download for puppy
https://xubuntu.org/download/ for Xubuntu
Xubuntu is more likely to have support for your card and is better to use overall, but Puppy works if your phone doesn't have a spare howevermany gigabytes the Xubuntu installer is
@fervent granite You know it ✅. Small, fast, reliable. Quickest way to boot into something non-Windows
Okay so I have both rufus and xubuntu installed
And they are both transferred into my oc
You have a USB drive?
Nope
Why did I rely on an edit, and send it in such a bad order?
Erm, Xubuntu and Rufus can just be deleted then, useless without something to boot from
Not really sure what else to try if things work on other devices and work on other networks. Unless your modem/router's control panel have something set specifically for your PC that's messing with things, it can only really be the driver or the windows update
You can look into a driver here, but this site, despite being Microsoft's own, still doesn't look particularly great http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=AR9287
If all else fails, try rolling back the windows update. Its the least safe option, though.
isn't there a way to insall linux within windows?
WSL/2, yeah, but you're still running Windows. WSL1 is more a compatibility layer than anything, WSL2 might be able to do something, but I've got no idea where you'd even start getting WSL2 to handle the driver for the whole OS
pretty sure that'd be a huge security hole if you could access windows drivers from wsl
I think those parts of WSL2 are fully virtualized too, so passthrough might be weird

If u have an old cpu and u wanna upgrade gpu then buy AMD
FX users rejoice!
/s
But for real, this is not so much of a suprise for me, idk why
Because imho AMD drivers are seem to be geared for raw performance rather than features
who tf is still on fx though
Yall should at least be on 1st gen ryzen i cant imagine gaming on fx lol
Old intel cpus age really well though
My little brother, because i pulled an r word and thought FX-6350 is more bang for the buck than i5-6400

lol
stuff like a 6700k/7700k still perform pretty well nowdays
i just feel bad for anyone who bought a high end fx cpu
@cold elbow this is stupid
Nvidia and AMD should both cut all their telemetry, attempt to make ALL relevant APIs more performant, and just have things work well
AMD GPUs are terrible at Opengl and DX9/10, a bit slow in DX11, with 0 decent compute stack
Nvidia GPUs are a bit subpar at DX12/VK, and terrible for Metal
tough life out there when everyone is basically chokeslammed by doubleclick

but yeah, to be honest
consensual telemetry that exist right now is pretty much just "not much"
Its appalling AMD has so many issues and their past 5 updates have just been making the AMD Link phone app slightly faster
And Nvidia could kill NVDriverSlimmer and NV Debloat easily by reverting their new account requirement despite all of GFE's features working beforehand, and cutting down on the 6-7 constant Nvidia processes filling up task manager
i hate all the geforce stuff constantly eating up my ram
i have 32 so it isnt really a problem but for someone with 16 or lower all of that adds up quickl
Also, AMD should make Radeon Software optional, like GFE
was doing work and chrome was using 6 gigs of ram lol
Though, I give them credit for it being more useful than GFE
Everything GFE offers is done better in an open-source alternative
including Ansel?
Depending on the game you're trying to use it on...
There isn't a universal equivalent for Ansel, alright

but Ansel shouldn't be tied to that bloatware either
OBS is also not good enough for those who just want a quick clip
i died inside when i saw that linus video of a 3080 and 10900k in the h510 unrelated but just thought about it
Why isn't OBS good enough? Its only drawback is that you have to spend 4-5 seconds setting it up, no?
my case has poor airflow but compared to the h510 its a mesh airflow case
4 secs too many for clipping
There's more to customize, its lighter than GFE, its not connected to software that occasionally tries to mess with your settings without your permission, only issue is its replay buffer not having the option to save to disk
now to be fair
i use basic OBS for my stream, nothing can touch it from both teams even without any config.
OBS basically runs away with it in that use case
Is spending 200 on a gtx 1080 good?
Considering a 2060 is $500 and people are still buying 1050 ti for $200 (well, they'd be doing that without the shortage, meh), that's awesome
I mean, with gpu pricing rn, yes
hit it, its prolly going to be 250-300 in the blink of an eye.
Cuz my brother got a 3060ti and he said I could buy his 1080 off him for 200
grabgrabgrab, its a steal right now
Lmao
@kindred temple One advantage I'll give Delive and Shadowplop
OBS lacks an easy gif option
sharex
no! Not screenshotting software!
What do you think of Xbox getting Chromium Edge?
And all the gamestreaming services associated with that? I'm thinking Stadia would stay usable but Nvidia would be the sort to block the new browser's user agent
wait so is xbox basically a pc now
with a standard browser
The Xbox 360, Wii, PS2, PS3, loads of consoles have had working and functioning web browsers
lol imma install an ssd into my xbox one s and make it into a mini pc
The previous browsers have been able to run Microsoft Office, flash games when those were a thing, HTML5, etc
With xbox KBM support, i think series S is basically the new 500$ gaming king.

There’s not really a reason to get a console anymore since PS games are coming to PC as well also the majority of Xbox games are on pc
I hope it supports office online
the price
even though a 1k pc is better value than a 500 dollar console they will still say its cheaper to buy console
The old browsers support everything but these gamestreaming services, just because nobody would waste time getting them to work if nobody uses them
but anyways
How do you think it all will go down when the browser becomes a mainstream thing?
The price for 5 years of Xbox live and a 500 dollars for the console and that will come out to 800
And console lifespan is like what, 3-4 years?
Yep
I have to admit that rn, PC doesnt make sense for sub 700$.
yes my point
but they will still say console is cheaper
a 3060ti/i5 10400f build will beat a console and even though the upfront cost is high there is no online fee and cheaper games
They be going for 600+ here
Definitely a great deal
best buy just dropped
3080 FE was available for almost 20 minutes it seems
And they're gone
wonder how many were bought manually and how many were bought by bots people set up
it was like 2
the previous drops had far far more
i think chinese new year has something to do with it
closed factories, possibly
Is it the factories producing wafers or the ones making the GPU dies though?
If the former, that's really bad
they were closed for a bit
and because stuff takes weeks to ship
were just now feeling the effects of it
whappen?
It ran like shit
o
luckily I only needed to fish out the apple emoji font so I could make mojave display emojis correctly
but finder literally didn't open for about 5 minutes after booting
ouchie
? why did i recieve a performance warning before i changed my max fps to 70
idk if this is really coding or not so correct me if im wrong and ill delete the message
No, that's ok. What game were you playing? I assume a source title from the console. CSGO?
It looks like a warning about network desync between the client and the server.
i'm seeing a lot of different solutions to this problem, so it's best if you google the warning and see what works for yourself(other than hiding it lol)
seems to have to do with messing around with your fps cap, honestly
it does seem that all the symptoms are common: very high ping or fps drops
this best buy drop was awful
well, a friend of mine said it was because of the fps limiter commmand. but i found it strange since it showed up before i do the command
yes, it is csgo
but thanks, it may just be high ping
well no, it's the cause for high ping
high ping is not the cause for the warning
so you'd want to try some stuff out and see where it gets you
i mean high ping isnt really a problem for me
i was just scared because yesterday, i was playing csgo and for no reason my pc simply froze and soon turned off (monitor)

Cant tell if thats a hardware or software issue
take 4000
who knew installing a desktop environment was such a pain in the arse ffs
Arch.
Bro all you get is a boot loader.
But once you installed it you have unlimited power
are the servers down?
the message disappeared too quickly
are the servers down?
i can't sign into social club for some reason. neither in the game or on a web browser. the social club website times out
well, it seems to be a random issue
because it didnt happen to me before, but isnt happening to me right now either
so im guessing it was because i used my pc too much that day
and since i was alt tabbing too much it would cause it to froze
i dont know thats pretty much the only answer that comes into my mind
I did but now it's not even booting it just gets stuck trying to boot from the drive
Oh wait I forgot the bootloader
I wish I had the tools and the knowledge...
I've had so many TV mainboards that could be used for so much
If only I could get some lightweight OS on these and use their video out and wifi adapters without all the other TV components
Mediatek MT5597...
Quad core with HEVC devode and no way to use it, such a scam
@jovial tide Here's that link if you want http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02871896.pdf
Not really. Dry cloth + dry paintbrush and hope for the best?
It'll suck but everything but compressed air does
Well, they can get caught or ripped on the edges of heatsinks, or really any part of your case since its that sort of ancient design HP likes where everything is unpainted steel
they should be okay, though

Some malware can affect the MBR
A real wipe using diskpart or dd will but something like Windows 10's reset option won't do anything in that situation. If not in that situation, diskpart is still >>>>
Doesn't work at all?
You have both the SATA data and the SATA power connected to it?
Does it spin up at all when plugged in?
AFAIK there's nothing public that causes irreparable hardware damage. Most are just annoying, ransomware, or things that nuke your OS
If you want to be "safe," use a live USB and boot into something non-windows and non-macos or wipe it from an installer/recovery usb
but nothing should automatically run just from you plugging in that drive, usually
I thought windows didn't use the mbr anymore?
but on the topic of viruses nuking your drive is probably the best way to kill a virus
that's what I do anyway, I could try to clean my system using tools like hitman or checking the registry for sus keys but I get really paranoid with that stuff
Windows does still use MBR
It accepts drives with MBR, you can install to drives using MBR
nuking drives is also fun
but I thought windows always formated your drive as gpt
perfect time to use convert gpt in diskpart too
nope, it just complains in the installer if you boot the usb in legacy mode and your drive is GPT/vice versa
and then the user shows up in a discord troubleshooting channel asking what it means and why the installer doesn't just fix it by itself
or the user goes to stack overflow and gets downvoted to oblivion
Marked as duplicate
goes to supposed original post
op says fixed but doesn't post fix
all support forums in a nutshell
Microsoft should change the GPT/MBR error message

Make the MBR one tell people to reboot and choose "UEFI: USB drive name" if available and just add a button to the GPT one that opens up DISKPART and does it for you
the second one especially, no reason NOT to have the option there if you can just go back two pages and open cmd and do it yourself, but so many people don't know that
actually that really doesn't make sense
but then again it's windows we're talking about
mh, right
The OS that tells people they don't have permission to delete files they create
also the os that tells people they don't have permission to delete files despite running as admin
admin in Windows is wack
admin user account? Nope, can't delete that. Random program like Ubisoft connect? Sure.
nice
but this is gnome though I wanted budgie
1 down
What has no signal?
The PC worked before and you're just adding that drive, no?
strange, adding a drive should never cause a display issue unless there's an OS with no graphics driver on that drive
SATA data is hotswappable, turn the PC on with the SATA data cable on that new drive removed but leave SATA power in
the smaller one, not sure if the cable color is black there and the connector is black for both in that picture
The large one is power, no touchy
the small is data, touchy
oh wait I'm thinking ide my bad
er, you have more than one SATA data cable, yes?
fully connect the drive that works and turn the PC on, and wait for your OS to load and all
leave SATA power in the new drive
When your OS is loaded, steal the SATA data from the disc drive
or you can remove it from the disc one beforehand, either
just make sure you're connecting the data one to the new drive after things have loaded up as normal
that'll avoid any chance of it booting into an OS on the new drive and will let you wipe it clean
For power, always. SATA data, the smaller one, however, can be plugged and unplugged while a PC is running, just like USB
if you're just testing and this isn't a permanent arrangement, you don't really need to mount the drive
just don't let it fall over or take a physical hit
fs
mkfs.pls
you'd think a critical system program like terminal would just work out of the box
but arch says no
when arch2
I wanna write my own c compiler
write your own bootloader from scratch
why make terminal work when you can just write your terminal too?
arch2 - write your own os from scratch
You should not be seeing this if you booted into the old/working drive normally, weird
You're booting into the drive that works with the the SATA data for the one that doesn't disconnected, yes?
Then you're waiting until your OS loads and all, and THEN swapping the sata data in the disc drive with the drive that does not work, which should make that drive be recognized by the OS, which will not show this error because its already loaded, yes?
my lack of ability to explain and poor english hurts
Revert to a fully working state, move sata power (large one) from disc drive to new hard drive, remove the sata data from the disc drive and let it just hang, disconnected, turn the PC on, let windows or whatever you use load.
Then connect the loose end of the sata data cable to the new drive with the PC still on, and you should get some sort of notification or something if your OS is able to detect the drive. If you're using windows, open up disk management if you don't get the notification and see if a new drive is there
oh uh, you have them in? yeah
you can use multiple drives, you just have to be sure it boots to the working one and not the one that isn't working well
great
use both then
You use windows, yes?
not non-working means it's working?
Press start, type in "DISK MAN," press enter
You should see that weird drive in there now
Might be called "Disk 1"
normal, you're looking for second disk
those to the right are partitions, and there are multiple per disk usually
You able to send a screenshot?
Win+Shift+S?
You can deduce which drive you want to wipe by comparing the disk sizes
Those should just be partitions of one disk, not multiple disks. Partitions are listed horizontally, disks vertically
I think diskpart would've been easier, it would've listed the disks rather than the partitions, then you can just select the entire disk to clean
You right, John
b-but... GUIs
Someone at Microsoft spent hours on that
little colored bars, a table...
That's disgusting, wow. Disk 1 has your active OS and disk 0 doesn't
Alright, you can right click each of these in red and delete partition
Repeat until this top row is all listed as unallocated with the black bar
do not touch the second row where it says "Disk 1"
he's just saying he doesn't it like it when the drive windows is installed on isn't listed as drive 0
just a small oddity, I'd expect Microsoft to always make the active OS be disk 0 regardless of the sata port number, just seems like a MS thing
delete volume, yes
Should look like this when you're done
minus the terrible res and red box

list disk
Disk 0 should be roughly 1.5TB under size, yeah?
select disk 0
clean
convert gpt
now return to disk manager, you could make a partition here but doing that is wack
Right click it, select "new simple volume"
Then you get a menu with some options that aren't hugely important, press next once or twice and when asked just set a name and a drive letter you like and make sure the dropdown with formats is set to NTFS
By default, the volume size is all the unallocated space, so unless you want something more advanced, leave it
Change the label if you'd like
Here you can choose your drive name though
If you change your mind later you can always do it through file explorer anyway
o
alrighty
just choose that letter on the next page and you're done
have to set it
You use Steam/EGS/Origin/GOG mainly?
head to the new drive in explorer and make a folder
I named mine "SteamLibrary"
Then just set it in each launcher you use
plsno
mine is so original
copyrighted
spicy drive icon
I use the default windows icons
oh wow
completely forgot that was an option for drives and not just normal folders
I've been using autorun.inf
Windows XP style
was about to say... haven't heard of that name in a loooong time
keep icon settings between OS reinstalls or moving the folder to a new system with autorun
Do you guys help with like people who kinda but kinda not know how to dev a discord bot?
Bruh
what POV is it:
i love the earth but i hate it it but i love it but can i say that because i cant live on mars? she said but why is earth a thing do we have to love it he said?
Learn Python on the internet, then you can use the discord.py library to code the bot fairly easily, youtube can help if you’re struggling
Ever just want to kill yourself when there is so documentation for a library used inside a bigger library you are using
So you end up decompiling a jar and reading and understading someone elses code for hours of your life
good beginner language. if you know C++, then python is a cakewalk
Python is awesome
Just wish I could make OS-native executables out of it to make sending things to people a bit easier
@kindred temple just a normal partition, have vbox and vdi/vhd in there. No nested virtual disk or custom mount point or anything
So just search a discord bot tutorial using python on YouTube?
I personally went ahead and learned the language itself first by making a couple games through youtube tutorials, then began making simple stuff with my bot
It's definitely better that you learn the language first then the discord.py library
d.py is a good way to become familiar with Python though, after you've learned the basics. Its documentation is fantastic
yes
Plenty of games load quickly on a regular 7200RPM though, you may not really need a full 1tb SSD initially
No game that benefits hugely from an SSD runs well on the HD 4600
If you're mainly looking to play games, you need a GPU ASAP
What about that 970 you mentioned yesterday?
I thought yours was the full-size Pavilion hpe?
o
Low-profile only is sorta a death sentence for games unless you're on AM4. Best you can get is a 1650 iirc, and that model happens to cost almost twice as much as a normal 1650 when not in a silicon and production shortage
2gb of what?
Giving your HD 4600 2gb of VRAM through UMA?
If you already own it, its faster than your HD 4600, but don't spend any money on it
Mayyyybe I'd spend money if it was $15 or less
model?
Could be used for something
maybe VM passthrough if you want to try that
worse than the 4600 for games though, yes. Looks like an ATi card
$150 MSRP, should be cheaper since the card is generally a letdown already and used options before the shortage were much better at $50 less
go for it
There's demand for overpriced products
Well, you're right, but it would be a lot more beneficial to learn Python and master it if you can, not just learn coding bots with discord.py
It's also very fun and easy
If anyone needs links to free python courses on YouTube, DM me! :)
it's all open source, I found it very helpful
I might send it here later if I find it and remember
wonder what open source youtube would be like
but realistically depending on your psu you could either damage it, kill it, or kill it AND the other components
sure, what's going on?
seems fine
what model GPU is that?
You need to remove two of those covers
they'll be adjacent, the top one lining up with your PCIe slot and the other one under it
old case design, have to pop it out
none of the pictures are clear or close enough for me to tell
if there's a clip, push on it and it will click
else, push it in and it'll be fine
yeah, pull it to the left.
itll be hard, but just do it gently anyway.
its plastic, you WILL snap it if you go ham on it.
Electricity is relatively cheap where I'm at, would it be a bad idea to leave my rig mining crypto while I'm not using it?
depends on how good your PSU is and how fit is your pc rn
Well, I'm using an rtx 2070 super on an I7-7700k, and have a 1kw evga psu
Currently, my pc is in excellent shape, minus a thin layer of dust on the intake mesh.
RN I seem to be hitting 37 MH/s
1080Ti average hash on ETH is 40.
So its just ya average turing hash, not so good compared to pascal.
Oh, doing bitcoin rn. Would I be better off doing etherium?
BTC is a lost cause, youll be shredded by those with ASICs long before you make a profit.
gotcha, how would you recommend I go about eth mining then?
On turing, n o
Mining BTC on a GPU would take >100 years at current difficulty to make half a penny in USD
If you're okay researching, find a coin you like and a pool you like, and try a few different mining programs to see which is most efficient for you. Else, you can try something like NiceHash if you really don't want to do any work
nicehash
whattomine.com may be useful for you as well
Thats like rooting for haas this F1 season
I can cash out to my wallet when it hits 50 cents, and this is after doing it for a few hours today
nicehash doesn't mine BTC on PC hardware ever, you can see the algo in the console window the mining plugin opens
kinda hate that its like that, doesn't make it clear which algo you DO use from the get-go and not everyone knows daggerhashimoto=ethash, plus you lose on any othe price gains a smaller coin would have since they trade it out for BTC on the user's side instantly
oh gotcha
so I'm not technically mining btc, but I'm being paid in btc to mine eth
Im glad we can have a very peaceful btc talk
Instead of savagely saying we are killing GPUs, or something dumb.
I'm very ignorant about crypto and need to learn it.
not exactly eth, just whatever nhm thinks is most efficient on your GPU with its trash benchmarking system
My understanding is mining is easier on the gpu than gaming.
Of course, I may be wrong
It is if done right, on all but fans and VRAM, if G6X
No constant thermal cycling, and you can be efficient at much lower power use and lower core clock
So nicehash is not exactly the most optimal way of mining crypto based on what you've said @brave field ?
Its by far the easiest way to get into it but it being the most optimal way depends on your own setup
some pools only let you payout once you have $100+
So I have an advantage of being able to payout at around 50-60 cents with this pool.
and not having to hope you can find an exchange that both carries the coin you mine and isn't ready to pull an exit scam
Gotcha
I'm still a bit upset with myself for formatting the hard drive I had 10 btc on back in 2012.
@kindred temple Why no like nicehash?
10btc hm
The guy who paid 10,000 for a pizza is probably crying right now
Basically the massive amount of drama in it?
Which drama specifically?
The constant nonsense they have? Getting hacked, PhoenixMiner lies, its terrible community?
No, he's still alive and kicking
Well, going by that same logic, I formatted a hard drive with 10 btc on it back in 2012. I woulda had 600k today had I kept it
I look back on it and think "oof". But it's in the past, and all I can do is move forward.
Thanks to KYC, some countries do have age requirements
Probably 13, like most services.
I love when my decentralized alternatives are only able to be purchased and sold through centralized services
What's the odds BTC will crash? or is it so scarce the price is going to continue to increase?
Sorry, to clarify, what are the odds BTC will crash and remain at a low?
Not really sure
its approaching something huge though
There is 21mil total BTC, and nearly 19mil is mined
nobody really knows if the price will skyrocket, plummet, or something else
the only thing everyone knows is huge shit is gonna happen when it gets there.
mining won't stop since it will still be used for transactions, but something interesting is near
yeah
I'm worried about the effect that would have on exchanges and BTC "ATMs"
ETH and ADA and XMR are all alternatives that approach things a bit differently, but pretty much every large... anything regarding cryptocurrency is tied to BTC in a way, because that's just what gets used by exchanges and investors who won't research anything worth less than it
Will it increase ETH fees even further? Will companies go for exit scams in countries they're able to? Will Litecoin and ETH be the new "standards?"
Ya, that would fuck with everything crypto related.
yes.
i thought thats obv enough
You're right Claire
but... its still good to get an extremely basic understanding on for 2-3 days imo, just to have it autoconfig the mining programs, have one tweak their hardware, see a wallet address and do a first transfer
don't use it long term , don't keep big bucks in there, and doubly don't if you're going to invest money into hardware for it. Nicehash does have some serious issues, and while plenty of people at home use them, their issues are still worrisome.
Understood, I'll keep it going, get the payout, then maybe transfer to another wallet and look for another option.
but... its still good to get an extremely basic understanding on for 2-3 days imo
same thing that you can do by learning how to make your own wallet and start mining on a correct client.
youre giving yourself too much time with 2-3 days, the more likely case is 24-28h, see the little return
then
Its basically relying on trend pegger and those who desperate for cash so they can buy RDR 2 or something.
my sister is asking for a pc and i dont have enough money but i have something like 160 dollars, should i pair a q9550 with a gt 1030?
with 8 gigs of ram?
Wouldn't put that much money into something with a c2q personally, used dell/hp systems with a quad core and used GPU should be both cheaper and more powerful
Isnt that cash nowadays already going to buy you i5 haswell optiplex? @brave field
Least in merica and Indonesia
its cheap the c2q is 20 bucks
gt 1030 55 bucks
ddr3 1333 8gb 2x4 32 dollars
g41 m combo 19.24 bucks
a 500 watt power supply
and a case which is also 20 bucks
is it a good deal?
i also have a spare samsung s19 monitor
I think we already pointed out that old office prebuild and slap GPU on it is better deal.
well i cant find any
thats the prob

Indonesia is the least likely place to find PC and i can find 4460 optiplex for days in there
And not even FB marketplace, like legit surface level stuff
?
??
As cookie says, its serviceable but not good value.
squarespace is a template based drag and drop builder. Wordpress offers a lot more freedom but also requires a bit more know-how
ohhh
then a 660 ti?
with an optiplex?
yeah what about 55 dollars
