Do you think I can stream GTA 5 Story mode with that PC?
CPU: R5 3600
GPU: RX570 8GB
RAM: 15GB 3200Mhz
Game is installed on SSD
Im streaming in 720p 60fps with 4,5k bitrate

brave field
#

Aside from h.264 encoding being pretty awful-looking on the 570, yeah

#

If it looks too bad to you, CPU encoding should work but its going to affect your game's performance a bit

#

story mode runs super well though, probably will be fine

marsh plinth
#

ok thank you 👍

#

Im worried because in other games like f1 2019 my stream fps drop to 45

brave field
#

Do you use GPU encoding at all?

marsh plinth
#

no x.264

brave field
#

I'd give GPU encoding a try, just to see if the quality is good enough for you

marsh plinth
#

I have had that on, but it effected my games fps too much, due to the rx570 😦

#

cpu encoding works fine because I have 6 cores

brave field
#

GPU encoding shouldn't affect game fps very much on a 570 though

#

I guess if you're already pushing 95%+ GPU usage without the stream, dedicating resources to the hardware encoder and copy for the preview window would do it though, ah

#

anyways uh, story mode should work, the game isn't multithreaded very well so it should be fine

marsh plinth
#

I will try keeping it on cpu encoding, but if I get frame drops, either in stream or in the game itself, I will just switch to gpu encoding

#

thank you for the help 🙂

Amd is a better bang for your buck for anything in retail use. They outperform almost if not all of intel’s product line for regular consumers.

Intel still has more deals with manufacturers and sells more because they used to be the best and are slowly declining unless they get their shit together

Its the whole reason I avoided Brave when looking for a browser

#

a browser with its own monetization and rewards system is a red flag imo

#

better ways to get free cryptocurrency if you want to get into that

#

also BAT is a terrible cryptocurrency imo

#

Doesn't have an end goal or a use other than "pay people for doing this task in a web browser" and "get content creators to have slightly more money"

#

but even if it looked more promising as a cryptocurrency, why is your browser the focus?

#

Not projects fueled by it, mining or proof of stake, something else

#

why a web browser specifically?

crimson sentinel
#

Okay they did update the store its BAT and ETH which you can purchase the stuff from.

crimson sentinel
brave field
#

hmm

#

I'm just a little skeptical, monetization in browser is fishy to me, though I'm not very educated on BAT and Brave's new system

#

but I do see what BAT is going for

#

just don't like how they go about it, I guess. Feels weird when a web browser steps outside of web browsing.

crimson sentinel
#

Chrome Spyware - You basically your activity monitored for advertisement
Firefox - Agenda pushing

brave field
#

true

#

but neither advertise rewarding the user, which is the big thing for me

#

I just always have to ask Why is this company doing something that benefits consumers?

#

and I can't find it. Just an incentive to use BAT instead of the normal way of ad revenue? Why not just force it on people? Why reward users?

#

For google's data collection, they give you their suite of drive, office alternative, a fast browser, access to loads of otherwise inaccessible settings on youtube, and more, and they get your site history and analytics about how and when you access sites

#

with Mozilla, you can opt-out, and they get their message out

#

But how does paying users benefit Brave?

crimson sentinel
#

You get their ads on the browser instead
You get random ads
no data is collected no personal information

brave field
#

mm, I'm missing something

#

gonna read up on it, but I still don't see what brave has to gain from letting the people viewing the ads get any of the money

#

Is this an issue with the service provider or my pc?

midnight stag
brave field
#

@fallow forge You tested on other devices?

#

Because your OSes reported speed, an app or speedtest's reported speed, and your modem/router's reported speed can all differ

#

and the ISP usually advertises an "up to" value instead of what you actually get

fallow forge
#

yeah the up to value is 200

#

but networkproperties says its a 100mbps connection

#

and aside from that, my internet speed stayed the same after the upgrade from 100 to 200

#

while the wifi did go to 200

brave field
#

What does your network adapter support?

fallow forge
#

the mobo?

brave field
#

could be limited by the hardware or driver, though its unlikely for it to not support higher

#

yeah, the integrated one then

#

should say in your motherboard manual or on its website

fallow forge
#

its a killer E2400 gigabit ethernet controller

#

so i figure 1000

brave field
#

hm

fallow forge
#

the cable is going directly into the modem aswell, nothing in between

brave field
#

if the port on your router or modem is also capable of gigabit, it should be working fine
Maybe check for a new driver release, or a setting under device manager?

fallow forge
#

drivers are up to date

#

i dont know where i can check the modems max supported speed tho

but you can change the wifi password without changing the modem login

#

they're not the same password

fallow forge
#

ah, okay

#

username is just gonna be admin?

brave field
#

depends on your modem. Some have "admin," some don't even ask for a username. Try admin, if it fails then look online

#

most brands keep the same username for multiple modem models, shouldn't be too hard to find, but you may have to search some

fallow forge
#

nope, cant find it

#

default doesnt work

#

key on the back of the router doesnt work

brave field

is it actually connected to that one or is it just listed? Its possible you're connected to expressvpn without the app's window open

nvm thats ethernet 2

fallow forge

My ps4 says its at 126.6mbps

brave field
#

sounds reasonable

#

same cable and same port as your PC?

fallow forge
#

Yep

brave field
#

might be good to just restart your PC and see

#

assuming you're using windows 10, you'll want the actual restart option instead of shutting it down and turning it on again

#

fast startup makes restarting the only way to completely get a fresh load of windows, the shutdown option is now just a renamed hibernate that closes your apps

fallow forge
#

oh i turn off my psu every day when i go to bed, so it shuts down completely

brave field
#

while windows is running?

fallow forge
#

shutdown first

#

then when its off i turn off the psu

brave field
#

Its not a full reset still, hibernate and fast-startup shut down persist without power

#

why Microsoft, why

#

AFAIK the two are identical except hibernate saves the states of installed apps where fast-startup shutdown doesn't, but the windows components, services, and drivers stay

fallow forge
#

used restart, nothing changed

brave field
#

hmm

#

I guess next is to uninstall the network driver and let windows grab another, try the troubleshooter, or boot into a Linux live USB and see if the issue persists there

#

the third option would be my goto for seeing if its your windows install being the problem or if the network adapter in your board is damaged
or maybe the modem is detecting your adapter and the settings are per device instead of port
But using a whole different OS has its own factors so it doesn't consistently show, hm

fallow forge
#

i have no clue how to do that

brave field
#

hm, grab Puppy Linux or Xubuntu iso and a 4gb or larger USB drive

#

back up the files from the USb drive to something else, and then burn the ISO to it using RUFUS or something of the sort

#

restart your PC, boot into the usb drive, and click "Try [WhateverDistroYouGot]"

#

head to network settings, as long as you didn't choose arch getting there is basically the same

#

check if its gigabit or not in there

jovial tide

hazy breach
#

oof

fallow forge
#

@brave field i tried my moms laptop, same cable and its also locked to 100 on a gigabit connector

#

so its just most likely my cable, or something at the providers side

brave field
#

o

#

thought your PS4 was using the same cable and port when you tried it before?

#

also sorry for delay, was taking a test

#

if its working on some devices its not your ISP

#

but cable, if your PS4 wasn't using the same cable but did use the same port, is likely then

#

Should be able to replace it cheap with Cat5e or Cat6

#

Just not Cat5 though, Cat5 is limited to 100mbps

fallow forge
#

it was the same cable in my ps4

brave field
#

weeird man

#

so wireless works, the PS4 with the same cable works, but your PC and mom's laptop do not

#

all the wired things using the same cable, same port and all

fallow forge
#

the ps4 was at 126 tho

brave field
#

that's bizarre

fallow forge
#

not 200

brave field
#

126 is likely a speedtest resulting from down/up to Sony's servers or whoever hosts it for the PS4, the "up to" 200 + whatever system overhead or slowness on the server's side, and the 100mbps or 1000mbps on the computers is the link speed, they'll be able to communicate to each other through your modem at that speed regardless of what your ISP offers

#

Can you check link speed on your PS4? Could also be 100mbps but report higher for some strange reason

fallow forge
#

eh

#

already unhooked my ps4 and everything

im just gonna call my provider tomorrow and get a new cable, if that doesnt work ill look further

@brave field The way my programming professor said he likes to teach is you learn the basics of how to do programming, and the rest is merely syntax.

I feel like 10 is too heavy even with an enterprise version, and I really only need it for certain programs I don't feel comfortable running in parallels

brave field
#

LTSB/LTSC 10 should be a wee bit lighter than 7 Home, though you still have to use an app or deal with poorly made tweak programs if you want lighter than that

wouldn't really use 7 now though, even if you have to spend a little extra time on 10

Having to add exceptions for safe files is a bit annoying, the the hosts thing is just scummy imo

#

but yes, its good otherwise. A bit too good, its hard to get malware when I'm intentionally downloading it for testing

#

disabling it is also a pain, because it just causes errors in your browser's download and in explorer without actually telling you its defender blocking the file sometimes

fervent granite
#

I guess you could always add your host as an exception

Yeah, but the fact that they did that at all is just... ugh

Majority of PCs have GPT that includes Legacy option for MBR Drives. Older users who bought PCs from 2009 to 2011 can run W10 on an MBR disk.

#

Intel Processors made in 2020 only shipped with GPT. Meaning you cannot install older Windows or DOS.

brave field
#

That's CPU-side and not chipset-side?

slender trellis
#

Exactly.

brave field
#

Didn't know the CPU played a large part in that, interesting

#

I was sure it was the mobo chipset in charge of that

fervent granite
#

I thought it was a motherboard problem because most new ones don't even have bios support anymore

brave field
#

All of the modern mobos I know of support BIOS/"legacy"

slender trellis
#

Most of Hackintosh community prefers GPT than Legacy.

fervent granite
#

probably because macos would probably throw a fit kek

slender trellis
#

Is there a thing where I can get both GPT and Legacy simultaneously on boot?

fervent granite
#

Like partition a disk with both?

brave field
#

You can have both MBR and GPT disks, but you can't mix and match for booting most OSes AFAIK

slender trellis
#

Most HD have GPT while one is an MBR for older stuff

fervent granite
#

I know that disks can have a gpt partition and an mbr partition but I've heard that having that config can cause problems later on

slender trellis
#

I'm thinking that Clover bootloader has the option to boot Legacy from GPT, correct me if I'm wrong.

brave field
#

rEFInd can as well

#

your board needs to support CSM though, like with most others

#

but there seems to be no issue using CSM to boot, since its what most modern systems default to with an MBR disk

fervent granite
#

Can confirm, I used to run a triple boot with ubuntu, windows 7 and windows 10

#

windows 10 could boot regardless of whether the board was set to csm legacy or uefi

#

on a side note, why the hell do I need to download .net framework TO INSTALL .net framework???

brave field

#

I've been wanting to use WSL more since my bash knowledge is terrible despite using various distros for years

#

Ms store won't let me install Linux distros to something other than C drive though, eugh

#

Then use xming or something of the sort to use any apps with a GUI

fervent granite
#

didn't even know wsl allowed guis I thought it was purely cli

brave field
#

Apps can't actually draw their GUI, which is why you need another program to help with that

#

but after that's installed, GUIs work just fine

#

you can also remote into a desktop environment if you really want, but that's kinda pointless imo

fervent granite
#

might as well make a vm at that point yeah

#

would wsl guis use windows theme elements or elements from their respective distro?

brave field

When you have the desktop environment, that takes over the rendering

Hey guys, got a quick question. So I'm hosting a Valheim dedicated server, and everything is working fine except the server is not showing up on the community server list. I've added the launch option "-public" and tested both integer and string options for it by typing just 1 at the end or "1". Any other ideas on how to make it show up on the community server list outside of my LAN?

#

Here's a screenshot of my .bat file as it's currently configured:

#

some ISPs throws users under CGNAT

arctic yarrow
#

People can connect to my server if they add it to favorites on steam and launch from there, so I don't think it's a porting issue. Basically everything about the server is functioning properly except being listed on the community server list, so I suspect it's a problem with the server not listing itself as public properly.

#

My router's WAN ip is identical to what I have when I search it on whatismyip.org, so it doesn't look like my ISP is using CGNAT.

It is a bit annoying that my friends have to add it to favorites on steam tho.

kindred temple
#

Or even better, buy dualsense controller.

#

It has native support for PC iirc

brave field
#

Use Steam's controller wrapper

fervent granite
#

I thought windows had native controller support?

brave field
#

Only thing DS4Windows has over it is being able to capture gyro and broadcast that for other apps

#

DirectInput is native but sucks to use (buttons aren't named, two of the same type of controller may have different button numberings, etc), xinput is the standard but only Xbox 360-Series controllers, Windows.Gaming.Input support One and Series controllers @fervent granite

#

to get the ease of xinput with the compatibility of directinput, you need a third-party app

#

But Steam's is perfect for a good 95% of use cases and supports almost everything relevant

#

and works outside of Steam games

fervent granite
#

Are button numberings/names different for every user or does it depend on the controller?

brave field
#

under which API?

fervent granite
#

directinput

brave field
#

as far as I can tell its random omegalul

fervent granite
brave field
#

Can use the same controller three times and have different numberings for the start and select/back buttons

#

or you can use a third party version of the same controller and its reversed

#

all the games from that era just list your controls as "button5" as well

fervent granite
#

yeah that does sound like a pain

#

on macos/ios (iirc) they don't ever change

brave field
#

hm

#

What did macOS have before GameControllerFramework?

#

Its release date is around the time Windows.Gaming.Input was available, pretty new

fervent granite
#

I'm not sure actually

#

actually apple documentation says it was released with mavericks, so it's pretty old

brave field
#

DirectInput was 1995-2004 iirc

#

Windows.Gaming.Input came with the Xbox One

fervent granite
#

My mistake, gamecontroller began on mavericks/ios 7 but only for mfi controllers

#

They opened it up with catalina/ios 13 but that doesn't make sense because I was able to connect my xbox one controller via bluetooth to my mojave macbook natively

brave field
#

interesting

#

Maybe the app had its own controller support?

fervent granite
brave field
#

SIAPI is sort of a problem imo, having the most versatile one tied to a single app gives Valve too much power

#

Its cross-platform and supports it all

#

Microsoft deliberately making xinput and Windows.Gaming.Input only work with xbox controllers despite DirectInput supporting others sucks, Apple's being different for the sake of being different sucks, FOSS devs on github do it right but you end up needing 1-2 programs per controller model you have, and then all they do is translate that into xinput since game engines only support it or SIAPI.

#

And Sony or Nintendo or Logitech or whoever sure isn't going to spend time writing their own software just for their 20% of controller marketshare

anti piracy of gta 4 on pc is the fact that you cant play it without softlocking.

even on legit copies omegalul

prefer it over denuvo, arxan, or any always-online solution

compared to GFWL

especially after its dead

brave field
#

I mean, they won't work for very long

#

Its the same Irdeto that abandoned SecuROM and left a whole bunch of games unplayable

#

GFWL was dead on arrival though, not sure who at Microsoft thought that would go over well

Seriously bullshit windows defender automatically deletes files IT deems is malicious. MY FUCKING VALHEIM SERVER ISN'T A FUCKING VIRUS M$!

brave field
#

yeah, super annoying

#

warns you after it deletes the file

#

pyinstaller exes all get detected too even though its a false positive 😦

arctic yarrow
#

I've defanged and declawed that actual malicious peice of software M$ forced on me.

#

Makes me want to change my server to linux, because I need that software running 24/7 on my server.

granite knot
#

i hate that stupid definder i cant do crap

#

i wish i can delete it

brave field
#

Its really good at its job

#

just annoying when its wrong

arctic yarrow
#

Those times when it's wrong force me to disable the entire damn thing and go with malwarebytes instead.

A bunch of cool and NOT ENTITLED reddit g*mers are now boycotting Zotac because they tweeted a picture of a mining setup.

#

If you're looking to get a new card, you might have a good 2000 less competitors trying to buy from Zotac when their cards are back in stock, might be best to look for their models first

arctic yarrow
#

I go with EVGA anyways. They do price slightly higher than MSRP under normal circumstances, but their support is amazing.

arctic yarrow
#

Besides, I think my 2070S will be relevant for another 3-4 years.

I'm glad I built my computer in August before computer parts decided to act like Yeezys and sell out instantly at their retail price.

Built mine back in November of 2019, right after I quit a really shitty job.

I'm actually glad I got a city job just before the pandemic hit.

Might as well consider it malware

gaunt granite
#

valorant's anticheat/drm is pretty much literally a rootkit

#

kernel drivers should be running in R0, not a fucking game's anticheat

fervent granite
#

What even is the benefit of anti-cheat as a kernel level driver?

arctic yarrow
brave field
#

Probably easier to detect cheats and scan through every single process running when its active from startup to shutdown and is able to do more on a PC than the person using it

lilac fable

is a 3600 cpu + 3070 gpu good or bad, if so is there anything i could do to make it better without changing products

brave field
#

You list two products but those two products can't be made better or worse without changing them

Its a good combo if you're going to be playing games

thats like me getting flamed for posting bean pc and "disrespecting ekwb engineering"

even though its a fucking meme

crimson sentinel
brave field

eh

They get flamed because half the people on reddit only read post titles and never the actual articles or context
Tonedeaf from Zotac's social folks, sure, but the response is dumb too

#

If they do actually organize something larger scale though, more cards for everyone else!
Zotac has gone from "Best GPUs, but not great customer support" to "worst GPUs of all time" back to being the best and now they're the worst company to ever exist on the planet as a whole according to these people

kindred temple
#

Best GPUs, but not great customer support
still my summary of them

never change

especially here, where galax already have a massive RMA network.

hybrid python
#

so uh

#

i have a question that's pretty tech related

#

or coding related or whatevs

#

i recently discovered dxvk, a project that forces games to use the vulkan api if the game is running directx

#

this seems to work for gta 4 however i do not know if it's bananble in gta online

#

i also do not know how to install it in gta online

#

can anyone tell me if dxvk is considered bannable?

#

so far i've seen peopel get banned for using wine thatu ses dxvk, however there's people that captured online footage with dxvk on

#

i do not know if those people were banned orn ot

brave field
#

People usually claim you don't get banned if its not editing memory or a .rpf file, but I wouldn't risk it if you care about the online mode

hybrid python
#

well dxvk is dll files

#

that's all ti is

#

it's just transfering dll files

#

d3d11 and dxgi to be specific

#

also d3d11 and dxgi aren't files in the normal directory, which means i just add them, i don't replace or modify existing files

#

so what does this mean? can i get banned for using dxvk?

@gaunt granite opinion?

gaunt granite

because hex is easy to interpret and smaller strings of numbers

night timber

not so easy for us humans to understand though, but I can see it being used to save memory, thanks for explaining btw

it's easier to understand that something is in memory location 0xFFAC3 than
