A better advocation for privacy & security:

Right now, mobile devices treat almost every network the same. Randomized MAC and hiding the device name help, but that’s surface-level. There needs to be a way for users to mark networks they trust and networks they don’t as soon as they connect for the first time.

If a network is marked as non-trusted, the device should be able to pause all non-essential app traffic until the user’s chosen VPN profile connects. That could be a system VPN profile or a VPN app the user picked. Once the VPN is up, normal traffic resumes.

Roaming networks should get the same treatment. Even though roaming is less common than it used to be, users should still be able to mark roaming connections as trusted or not. These probably shouldn’t be allowed to “forget,” but the user should still control how the device handles them.

There should also be an option for temporary connections; ones the phone forgets after disconnecting or after a set time. Same for networks marked as non-trusted. This lets users avoid keeping junk networks saved and keeps accidental connections from sticking around.

As a final addition, because some cellular providers also provide business networks and also allows their cellular customers to connect to them automatically, users should be allowed to set all or at minimum, these niche network connections as non-trusted.
