the variables I used to store the sum of the RGB values of surrounding pixels to blend them into eachother by taking the average and setting that as the new RGB; well, I wasn't resetting that value back to 0 after iterating over each pixel so after the first iteration it would just go over 255 (impossible) which was causing this weird behaviour

the way this works is, you take a pixel, you get the average of the RGB values of the surrounding pixels in a 3x3 box, and that's the new value for that pixel

do that for all the pixels and you get a blurry effect
